If I could give these guys 10 stars, I would! They helped me move three days ago and totally exceeded my expectations in every way (and my expectations were pretty high because of all the glowing reviews here on Yelp!). They were extrememly responsive to my initial request and follow up questions and provided very clear and honest information. Even though I grossly understimated the amount of crap I have, they were able to expertly and carefully cram it all into two van trips. I was amazed by how quickly and efficiently they worked - carrying three Juggleboxes at a time on their backs. (I also highly recommend using Juggleboxes - but that's another review). They arranged my stuff in my new place very thoughtfully - organizing boxes based on how I'd labeled them: toiletries were placed in the bathroom, etc., and stacked them in such a way as to leave access to all outlets and leave plenty of room for moving around and unpacking. They were friendly and pleasant and never once complained about he heat, humidity or the amount of stuff I had. Which I think says a lot. Heck, I was just standing around like a lazy bum and I was complaining about the heat. These guys are the best and I cannot recommend them enough. I moved on Saturday at 6pm with no problems thanks to Colin and Charlie (5:40pm if you want to get technical- they came over 20 mins earlier!). All of the yelpers on here singing their praises are true! This was the least stressful move ever, with nothing broken or scratched. Word of advice to anyone looking to use Lightning Van: reserve your time slot as soon as possible! They are popular and in high demand! I was lucky that they squeezed me in at 6pm. It took 2 trips to get all of my furniture/boxes/dressers that came out of nowhere/ etc to Roslyn, NY (border of Queens) from Bushwick, Brooklyn, but the super duo did all of that in 3 hours! This was amazing for me since they have a 3 hour minimum (it's pro-rated after the 3rd hour). They come with their own dollies and blankets. No shrink wrap for your mattress, but they are very careful to not let it get dirty. Colin and Charlie are very laid back, and will make an effort to help you feel at ease. Yay! I love when Yelp pays off, and the reviews end up consistent. I used Lightning Van today and must say that the experience was great. I moved a full bedroom from Hoboken to NYC and despite warnings from people at work that the move would take forever and be horrible, the move went as was stated by the guys. They arrived promptly when scheduled. Both my old and new buildings had strict move in/out policies and they worked well and very quickly within them. Of the quotes I got, they were the most competitive and upfront. I was able to match exactly the final price (mattress bag, tolls, etc). They worked well with the street parking situation as well. I was comfortable sitting in the van to ensure no parking tickets while they moved my stuff. They were careful to keep all bolts/nails on furniture and took/put my bed back together. I managed to unpack and get into work this afternoon bc the move was seamless! Even though they went five minutes over the paid three hours of labor, they didn't try to round up to the next paid time increment. They also listen to a radio station that plays the B-52s and Phoenix...pretty cool. Definitely recommend them for smaller moves! read more

I had never used Yelp to find much more than a good place to eat or a decent martini bar, but when I had to find some help moving, Yelp pointed me to Lightning Van. I can't imagine using another service for moving. I hope these guys are still around next time I have to move. From the start, I received a phone call from them within 5 minutes of sending them an email, clarifying what I needed so they could be prepared. When they arrived on the day of the move, they shot straight to work and didn't mind that I had no clue how to disassemble my bed frame. They treated our stuff like it was precious furniture and not a crappy $35 dollar couch I'd gotten at a yard sale. Everything was transported in one trip less than I thought it would take. They didn't even mind when I decided to have them include some extra boxes in addition to the furniture. They were efficient, professional, and surprisingly spirited regardless of having multiple moves in one day! The best thing was the straightforward rates. No surprises or extra charges. This was my first experience with movers and I'm glad I went with Lightning Van. Some things I'm sure you're looking for: -This was the best estimate money-wise I got and I called/emailed around to probably 8 places. -Make sure to factor in a tip when you're budgeting because they'll deserve it. -They didn't break anything. We had some glass panes and mirrors, which they wrapped up really carefully and got safely to the new place. -They arrived on time. -They were super fast, even from a 4th floor walk up. -They were nice, honest and had great attitudes. If you want to use them, go to their site and get an estimate. Charlie likes to have it in writing (all part of the honesty thing, I bet.) Don't underestimate how much stuff you have. I did that and even though Charlie was very gracious, I felt kind of silly for being so completely off with my guess. I definitely recommend Lightning Van. read more

Just call them, you'll be so glad you did. I had some scheduling conflicts with booking the service elevator at my new place and Charlie was very flexible. He even showed up an hour early to make the move, so we would have enough time with the elevator. Super friendly, professional guys. Made moving a breeze. Five stars aren't enough. Who thought moving could be fun! I laughed the entire 2 HOURS of my move from a 1st floor, to a 4th floor walkup. I was amazing at how quick these guys work, and then to see them haul up 8 boxes at a time "pack mule" style - AMAZING. Charlie was so responsive and made sure I knew what was going on. I literally just met these guys 30 seconds ago on the street. I had been sitting in my Penthouse apartment and they caught my eye. I thought ah, two young guys moving out (I've been there). Then I saw the furniture they were carrying and thought....hmm two young guys with ...really interesting, er, old taste (no offense to the person they were moving). Colin helped me move AND assemble furniture (overtime for the same rate as the move) yesterday... From 4pm-midnight. Yeah. It was a TON of work (IKEA convertible bed with a billion slats and bolts: enough said) and he did it all cheerfully and professionally. The rate was more than reasonable as well. Hire them! Charlie and Colin were very cheap, friendly and FAST. I had about 15 boxes to move and they were able to fit everything in the van no problem. I live in a 6 floor walk up and they carried 3 boxes up at a time. Still don't really know how they did that. It was crazy. We finished my move fairly quickly even though there is a 3 hour minimum. However, I still feel they were worth what they charged. Only downside was that they did not give me a proper invoice after I paid. I really hope my employer will still reimburse me anyway! I hired the guys to move my stuff from my moving ReloCubes into my 3rd floor walk-up. They were punctual, professional, and very quick. It was raining that day and they didn't complain once. They finished moving two cubes (equivalent of a 14' truck) in an hour. Since they have a 3 hour minimum, they asked if I wanted help moving things around the apartment or help setting up anything. I didn't realize they were cash only and when I told them I would have to walk to the bank get to cash, they offered a ride. I will definitely be looking them up when I move again. These guys were absolutely incredible. How do I love thee, Lightning Van? Let me count the ways: 1. Their van is something like the bag from Mary Poppins that can magically fit anything inside of it; I was so certain we'd have to make two trips and yet they managed to fit several pieces of furniture and near 20 boxes in their mystical van. 2. They really live up to their name in that they are the speediest movers I think I've ever seen. I just sat back and marveled at how quickly they were able to load the van up. They were also incredibly strong. 3. They REALLY know what they're doing, and they use their skills to go above and beyond for you. Any tiny problem that arose, they knew exactly how to deal with it. For instance, they discovered my coffee table was loose (before they even touched it) and used their tools to tighten it for me. They took my bed frame apart and put it back together like they could do it with their eyes closed. They also installed my air conditioner for me. 4. They are really friendly, chill guys (they're also very cute...) 5. They are CHEAP! The entire move (from Upper East Side to Kew Gardens in Queens) took 3 hours. 3 HOURS! It was significantly cheaper and quicker than I ever thought it would be. They were by far the cheapest movers I found. Overall, I really could not have asked for a better moving experience. Moving is so incredibly stressful. So, I found these people as recommended from "box rental" sites. On yelp, they're one of the few with consistently great reviews. I was a little reticent to go with them because they have a minimum fee of 3 hours and I knew there was no way we would take more than 90 minutes (I own very little shii...schtuff). However, interactions over email with other companies sort of made it painfully obvious that LVM was going to be a more pleasant experience. In the quote, they used a "one person" rate for 50/hr, so I was surprised when two handsome chaps rang my door. I quickly pointed out that the quote said there would be just one mover, and they said they would take me at that rate since they made the mistake. There wasn't even a scowl, they handled it with such grace. Being the strapping fatass that I am, I helped them move my stuff and they were just kickass fast. They also indulged me in a little light conversation. They put all the items in the new place where I asked them to, and nothing was broken. So I paid them the agreed upon quote (which was the minimum) and tipped them and parted merry ways. Whole thing took 80 minutes. May I never have to move again. read more

These guys are simply pros. Super quick and hard working, they'll move your shit from point a to point b faster than you can say quinoa. They don't have moving insurance though so if your building requires it you should be aware. Otherwise these guys are friendly and fast and charge very reasonably at $80 an hour for a two man team, before tip. read more

OK, they are the best. Many people I asked recommended another company (er, FlatRate). They quoted us a price more than twice what Lightning Van did, and then Lightning Van managed to complete the job faster than they expected, so the final total was $100 less than their low estimate. They moved a one-bedroom with some big pieces of furniture, including a sectional couch and a big china hutch, plus lots of boxes, in three van trips done in about four hours (the two apts were just over a mile apart). Friendly, professional, excellent. Then after having moved in, I contacted them again to see if they would be willing to move a heavy bookshelf again, from one room of our apt to another. They did, and at the same time reassembled our kitchen table. All in all, a great move, no issues, and an even better price. I would note that were moving us from an apt in one three-story house to another one in a two-story house, so there were no doormen or even landlords monitoring what was going on. If your building requires a Certificate of Insurance, Lightning Van won't work, but if that's not the case, you should support this local business. They aren't just movers, they are your neighbors. read more

Talk about Dream Team. Thank you Yelpers for making my move so painless Just moved into my new apartment today and have nothing but amazing things to say about Charlie and Amery. Emailed to get a quote a few weeks back. Charlie politely and quickly responded with a quote (very reasonable). I was bummed to find LVM wasn't available during my move-in, but quickly took to Yelp to find other alternatives. Charlie emailed me to let me know that he was able to move around some things and fit me in. Initial deciding factors compared to other companies? Price and service. Charlie was super patient with me on the phone as I described that I needed to move my IKEA bed over and over again (Are you sure you can move it? The real icing was when Charlie sent me a calendar planner to confirm the move. Thats what I like to see...organized, good customer service and a fair price. On move-in day, Charlie texted me 30 mins before my scheduled time that they were close. Miraculously they arrived right on time. Right on time!!! For a moving company? That's amazing!! Charlie and Amery showed up in an unmarked van with dollies and moving crates ready to go. Went up to show them briefly what to move and they got to work. Boy did they hustle. My only job of the day? Babysitting the van...I can deal. 3 hrs later I'm completely done moving in...unbelievable. These guys are awesome. They are very professional, came right on time, worked hard non stop up and down to the 4th floor walk up. I have a lot of stuff for one person but they helped me move very efficiently. They know how to take apart furniture and put them back. It's amazing how they strap 3 heavy boxes together and carry it all like a backpack! Amazing! Excellent service and very reasonable and fair prices. They are true to their estimates. Tips for people packing: try to pack things into medium sized boxes. No open, not squared packaging like stuffing all your random stuff into a laundry basket. And don't forget to label your boxes. I've used Lightning Van *AGAIN* this summer, twice. This will be the last time as I've finally reached the upward social mobility point where I have my very own apartment and no roommates, and will probably be holed up in this studio for forever, but I digress--as always, professional and awesome movers. I can't remember the names of the dudes who helped me the second time around, but they were wonderful and worked really hard. They strapped freaking boxes to their freaking backs! It was majestic. Also, I had a chair that surprisingly would not make it down my very narrow staircase. They tried about 16 different ways, and unfortunately were unable to defy physics, but the effort was so appreciated! (PS, guys, if you read this and you remember me, the chair is in my apartment thanks to the upstairs neighbor who let me lug it through her place when she came back to town). Anyway, I recommend these guys to everyone anytime they ask for movers, and a few of my friends have followed through on the recommendation and have nothing but great things to say about them. If you're looking for a mover, call them, you'd be stupid not to. But I must reiterate--they book fast because they are so g-damn wonderful, so don't waste your time! They called me telling me exactly when they would show up, and worked to try to get there faster from their earlier job to accomodate my schedule even though I was at fault for not being more clear on my move in times. They never took breaks, were very professional (and nice), and the quote the gave me was spot on to what they charged me at the end (actually it was 25 bucks less). I used Lightning Van for a home Depot run and they were great! I get a little overwhelmed in Big Box stores but they were very patient and even helped us divide our carts between our personal and business stuff. We got some big plants for the frontage of a business and they needed to look good when they got there. Lighten Van was very careful, the plants look great and they didn't mind making two stops. I really hope this review is of help. These guys deserve any business that comes out of it. I'm a single girl, with a back injury, moving my stuff out of a Storage POD Unit from out-of-state into my new apartment, in the rain, during Hurricane Irene. I was very nervous, worried and stressed over the move. You really have a small window and it has to be right and I'm paying out-of-pocket. They were so fast on their jobs earlier in the day we were able to move my time up by 2hrs. They even finished my job a bit earlier than expected. They had time & energy to spare to help me arrange some of the bigger items in my room - to save me the trouble and back pain. I tried to tip them really well and I don't think it was enough because that day could not have gone off better without them. Excellent attitude and friendliness. They gave me a way to feel less stress and actually laugh! These young guys have a great attitudes, they are ambitious, motivated and friendly. These guys are crazy...crazy good at moving! They were so professional and relaxed about the whole process, which is a really great combination because moving tends to suck! They were responsive, offered a great price, arrived on time, moved all my stuff down 3 flights very quickly, took exactly the amount of time they had quoted, and were very nice all along the way! I used juggleboxes for my move (which I also highly recommend) and these guys literally strapped two or three of these plastic crates to their backs to go down the 3 flights of stairs! It was amazing! They approached every item in a similar way; what is the safest and fastest way to move this item? I can't recommend this company enough! These guys were PHENOMENAL!!!! Super cool guys. (Super cute too...) They quoted me a 3 hour minimum for a very affordable price. We even had to make 2 trips and STILL got everything done in less than 3 hours. To be honest, I was quoted slightly less by a few other companies, but I went with Lighting Van Moving because of their professional response via email and phone. Before I even met them, I could already tell that I could trust them with my personal belongings. Their van was longer than a normal van, but not quite so tall (hence the 2 trips). They said they had 2 other guys with another van, which perhaps could be bigger for larger apartments. Either way, they were PERFECT for a 1 bedroom size apartment or studio. I recommend these guys HIGHLY!!!! :) (Keep in mind, I also had lots of boxes because I don't know how to throw things away...LOL! I actually just set up my yelp account pretty much to make sure i sing their praises. the last time i moved, trying to wing it with friends and a zipcar, it was HELL. took all day and was absurdly draining. now i have a ton more stuff than before, but Colin and Charlie got everything done in less than 2 hours. I was shocked and delighted that they got all my things in the van in one trip! & then i could merrily go on with my day. if i ever have to schlep big things around or move again, i will absolutely call them again. they cracked me up while remaining professional, and there were high fives all around when all was done. in conclusion, THEY ARE AWESOME. GOOD. can't really say much more. they were fast, inexpensive, realistic, reliable and exceeded my expectations by a mile. moved my 1 bedroom apt (including my precious, ginormous couch) from UWS to North Jersey in just 3 hours... a miracle! they talked me through the whole process, including when they were having trouble maneuvering the couch into the new place to make sure I was comfortable with each step of the way. and they got it in the new place without a scratch! you won't find nicer movers anywhere. I can't say enough good things about Lightning Van movers - Colin quickly answered the detail-oriented emails I threw his way to book my moving date and both Colin and Jesse were super efficient & friendly. It was awesome having nice guys you trust with your stuff moving you! They were able to move a ton of my stuff in Juggleboxes, essentially playing van Tetris. The amount of stuff they fit in the van in 2 hauls was truly impressive. The load-in area at the new apartment was less than ideal for them (sorry, guys!) but they managed with no complaint and still managed to finish the entire move an hour earlier than they quoted me and priced it accordingly. They were great... from the email communications, to chatting, they weren't fazed by the mound of boxes (oh, at least 50, including 32 boxes of books and CDs!) And while it was a move from a 3rd-story walk-up to a 4th-story walk-up, with two van loads of stuff (and that van can hold more than you would guess!) they did an amazing job for a great price with the energy of abundant youth! They showed up on-time, with a great sense of humor and spirit, and so above-board honest that I'd trust them with just about anything. They were conscientious, hard-working, and just a complete pleasure to work with...
