My brother and I were looking for larger more substantial lighting to replace my parents old lighting fixtures. The selection is very nice of higher end and larger 24inches in height exterior lighting. Now the place could be neater and cleaned up but the selection makes up for it. The layout is perfect with interior, exterior, etc organized and laid out so you can see them. What I appreciated more was they had the larger pieces 24" or larger also displayed so you have an idea of the difference between smaller exterior lights and larger ones. Our sales guy was nice and knowledgeable but should up his wardrobe to look more professional and not some street guy from Portland, OR selling wood carved fish...I know because I had reps in OR...Nice guy...The other sales person was female and dressed very business casual which is more appropriate. No stars off because this guy knew his stuff and it was a weekend...Regardless, improve the look. Good place for lights. Higher end but if you just bought a $15k+ dual door why would I want $200 lights to go beside it? Definitely the place to go for lighting that is not cookie cutter and plain. read more

Ordered and paid (in full) 2 light fixtures. We were told they should be in, in 2 weeks. After about 4 weeks, I called to ask for a status on our order. After being put on hold, someone got back on the line and said they would call me back shortly. After 3 hours, I called back since no one called me back--I was told that David (salesperson who took our order) was on the phone and would call me back as soon as he got off. Needless to say, here it is over a week, and no call back--quite some phone call David must had been on . . . This place has lost all its creditability with me! read more

Easy location right on route 17 with plenty of parking in their own lot. We walked in and we're able to do a couple labs looking at the overwhelming amount of light fixtures that they have in the store. And eventually a sales associate helped us make our purchase. The only bad part was that after we were in the store we needed to email the associate a few times but it took them quite a while often days to get back to us and that really slowed our project down but overall great experience and I would recommend them to friends and family read more

I never post reviews but this has been a very frustrating experience. I purchased an entry foyer chandelier...our electricians hung it up only to discover that it was completely defective (4 lights werent working and the wires were all mixed up). I told the store that you gave me a defective unit and it needed to be replaced. I also told them that my electricians are going to charge me to remove the broken unit and hang up the new one. The store sent me a new unit and said we will "work with you to help cover the electrician fees". A few weeks later , Jeff (the sales rep) said they can't help with the fees and that I should contact his manager Gary to discuss further. I emailed and called Gary a number of times and didn't hear back once. zero acknowledgment, zero answers, zero help. I reached out to Jeff again who completely stopped answering me. Now I'm out of pocket an extra $300 because they sold me a defective unit. Terrible customer service. Buyer beware, do NOT buy anything from this place. read more

We have used them twice and both times were fine, thanks to Ilona. The second time, it turned out one of the 5 crystals attachment points had been drilled but not removed. They got a fast replacement from the manufacturer, checked it personally, and all was good. Their selection is extensive and Ilona's taste is impeccable. We are very happy. read more

I ordered a lamp and when I came to pick it up they told me if they opened the box then I couldn't report any problems because they'd feel it happened in my car.luckily ,I didn't listen to such nonsense and saw it was t what I ordered .The owner, who may be the biggest con man I've ever met (I'm an interior designer in business over 40 years) said I sent him an email changing the order.I reminded him that I spoke to him when it was ordered and he told me it was taken care of.I've stopped payment on Amex until he can come up with my email,which of course he can't because he lies.Listen to all the people who've had problems and avoid this place.A client asked me to go in and thankfully I did as she was going to make a very expensive purchase. read more

After four months, I called for the umpteenth time to find they finally had my order ready, after failing to put the order in when I paid, and then ordering the wrong items. When I went to pick up again, they did not give me the $500 chandelier, said they had, and sent me off. I had to call them--they should have realized their error and called me, but they did not. They said they couldn't find the chandelier, and then later they did. What a waste of time to have to return to pick up again. The store from the outside and inside look to have a ton of lighting options. A lot of these items are really pricey though. Another downside of this store, is the service is SO SLOW! It took forever to get what I needed. They also have extremely limited stock in store. The people there had no idea if they had items in stock. Not sure how that's possible. read more

We did some renovations on our Manhattan apartment several months ago. The help we received from Robert in this store was well above top notch. He had helpful suggestions, always got back to us right away, and made sure items were delivered quickly. We were impressed with his knowledge of how the light fixtures needed to be installed, and he even took the time to walk our electrician through some issues he was having. Avoid this place! Their selection is extremely poor and their merchandise is overpriced. I am not sure why they call it a Superstore - it's relatively small. But worst of all - their staff is obnoxious. One of the women behind the counter was indifferent to the issue I presented to her - hanging small/mini chandeliers on a track. The other (younger) one seemed a bit more inclined to help us. The prices they offered were high. So I bought 2 chandeliers elsewhere and ordered a track from the Lighting Superstore. I left my new chandeliers to Walter, so he could put transformers on them. I paid $90+ for that "service" when I left the lights with him on Friday. I was assured that they will be ready for pick up the following Tuesday. When we called today, Walter was extremely rude on the phone. He kept saying that he has to work with some guy who wasn't there. He said that the guy might or might not decide to show up later on today or tomorrow. We tried to explain to Walter that we need the lights ASAP, as promised by him, because we booked an electrician's services for a specific day/time. (If we were to reschedule, we would've been forced to wait for another week.) Not only did Walter not apologize, he actually snapped at us. He said that "he's got other things to do" and "this is not a priority" for him. Wow! Way to talk to your customers. When we reminded him that he promised we'd have the lights ready on Tuesday, he said he'd give us the money back. If I were you, I'd skip the nonsense at the Lighting Superstore and I'd take my business to Capitol Lighting down the road. read more

Back on February 9, 2019, I purchased a $4,000 ceiling light fixture from this store. When it arrived, the appearance looked correct, but once hung, it became apparent that this was the wrong fixture - not what I had purchased. After talking with Gary at this store, he concluded that they had the wrong description on their web site for this fixture, so I ended up getting a light that cost $1,500 less (and is available at various other stores on the internet), had just four 60 watt bulbs instead of the specified eight, and was 34" from the ceiling instead of the 24" in the description. So, it is now July 19 and I still have no resolution and Gary has my $4,000. At his request, I have sent photos multiple times, measurements, and even a hand drawing - again at his request, of the replacement parts that would shorten the height to make it work. We discussed a $1,500 refund, him sending stronger bulbs to make up for only having four instead of eight, and getting replacement parts from the manufacturer. They sent the wrong parts back in May, and now with no resolution, it seems that Gary is avoiding my calls. I had a phenomenal experience in Lighting Superstore today on every level and had already visited at least 10 other lighting stores in NJ & NY. I'm also an educated and discriminating customer and was compelled to write this review because my experience was so outstanding. Rob helped me for several hours to select and purchase bathroom lighting - sconces and recessed lighting. He is the most knowledgeable salesperson I've encountered in a lighting store to date both in terms of his technical knowledge and his true desire to deliver products that met my very precise vision. While the selection of fixtures on display varies from store to store, Lighting Superstore has one of the most extensive selections of bathroom sconces I've seen at all the competitors, even in stores that are physically larger. In addition to being very particular, I'm also mindful of price especially with all the online competitors and I must say Rob offered prices that beat anything online...I was incredibly surprised to learn that after the fact. So, not only did I get to see what I was purchasing in person which is so important with lighting, I was given extraordinary information and guidance and I got fantastic prices. All around, an experience that beat my wildest expectations. And I was surprised at some of the negative reviews as the 2 other salespeople in the store were extremely pleasant and helpful to those customers they were helping. ***Buyer Beware*** I visited The Lighting SuperStore in Paramus, NJ. I purchased a "special order "chandelier in the amount of $1,107.19. The Salesperson David advised me that the order would arrive at the store in two weeks and I would be contacted for pickup. On or about August 15th, 2018, I called the store I spoke with a female who informed me that David wasn't available. I left a message with her for David to call me back. When David called back he informed me that there was a problem with the light. The manufacturer had to get a "new batch", he said the light had been malfunctioning. He said the new light needed to be tested and would be arriving in a week or so. On or about August 22,2018 I called the store and was told David was unavailable. I visited the store on Sunday Aug. 26 to follow up and found they were closed. I continued to wait and wait for my "special order" only to be continuously told either David wasn't available or the order should be arriving shortly "it was the manufacturer" fault. I went in this store last week to purchase bathroom light fixtures. No one said hello, approached me or ever offered to help me even though I walked around the entire store and stayed for at least 15 minutes. I walked past 2 employees more than once. Their prices were triple of what I would find in the home improvement stores. When I walked out, I was still not acknowledged. I was the only customer in the store. I raced to get here today because the service has been great in the past and I like to support my local retailers whenever I can . I was looking for 3 three light fixtures and thought I had a good chance to get it all done arriving at 6:30 (with a 7:00 close) because I was had some pretty specific thoughts about my needs. Once again the rep was nice and helpful but since he was the only rep one there, he asked if I minded him alternating his help with me and another customer. I was glad to accommodate him and told him I would look around while he did that. At 6:45 all of the lights in the store started tuning off! I told the man (not the sales person that had been helping me) who was shutting the lights that I was still there and still shopping. He ignored me. I asked again that the light please be left on for a bit longer as I was acitvley shopping and he old me "no it is time to turn them off... we do it at 6:45" I asked a 3rd time for a bit of flexibilty as I had made some selections and was hoping to complete my purchase. I had such a great experience with Lighting Superstore that I felt compelled to write a review. I visited a few other local lighting stores before coming here and they were the most helpful in helping me figure out what lighting fixtures would work best for my house exterior. I needed 7 different fixtures and especially needed help figuring out a hanging pendant for my entry. Pat was so great to work with and helpful at pricing out different options. When I finally had measurements for the hanging light from my contractor I emailed Pat to place the order. She was away on vacation but responded to my email the same-day (while away) and she had Rob, another lighting designer, reach out to me to finalize and place the order. I would give no star if possible. Was so thrilled to find quality lighting at decent price, was promised it was in stock as we were under construction. That was in August. Soon after placing order we were told item was out of stock. It was, couldn't find it anywhere. So why tell us it's in stock? Delivery pushed two more times.It's October now. Was told we would be installed today, at no cost. So what? Guess what? Phone call today to tell us they will see us Monday. Walter was indifferent and kept reminding me about the free installation they'll do. Walter, your customer service sucks. Don't take orders for things you can deliver. I custom ordered over $400 in lighting from this store; when I picked up my products from the store, I asked to open the boxes to look at them to make sure they were not broken, etc. I was told that because they were shipped from California, they opened up the boxes and inspected them upon their receipt, so there was no need for me to do so. Two months later, my electrician came to install one of the pendant lights, and it was broken. I called the store to complain, and asked for a partial refund, as I am located in NY and at 8 months pregnant I could not drive down to NJ to return the lamp; in addtion, it would also cost me a lot of money to ask my electrician to come back and pay him for a second day to replace it with a new lamp. I was basically told that there was nothing they could do for me, and that I should have checked the lamp myself. They also told me they could not give me a refund because they gave me a "deep discount" on the lamp; I told the man I was speaking to that they did not gave me a "deep discount," as the "discounted price" they gave was the same that online retailers have advertised. He also did not seem to care that I had hundreds of dollars of additional lighting to replace in my home and that he was about to lose out on a repeat customer over a small refund. read more

I purchased many lamps for 4 rooms of my home from this store following several trips. Though their in-store inventory is not huge, it is very important the customer sits down with a lighting consultant because they can order from all major suppliers and often there are more options than the web site indicates. Pricing was extremely favorable, in my opinion, and usually beat their on-line prices. They can't control delivery times from manufacturers, so the customer needs to be patient with the process (like ordering fine furniture). Their return/exchange policy was very fair. The store's computer inventory system is not perfect, so large orders can confuse them, but simply keep track of your receipts. I had a very positive experience overall and will be returning to this store regularly. read more
