ATX Asian Food Fest

ATX Asian Food Fest

The ATX Asian Food Fest 5/29/2022 held at VUKA was fabulous! There was a great turn out. Parking…read morewas a little challenging. You could find a wonderful selection of food & drinks vendors, like Moi Vietnamese grill. Mom & Pops popsicles. Connor's creamery. Garbo's. Ding tea. Citrus refreshments. Weh? Asian fusion. Shoyu Sugar is Hawaiian grill and a favorite amongst visitors. Boba bites and tea, had their very first event and are in the process of opening their shop soon. A business to be continued, as I love their teas! Dash realty was there too with a bean bag toss, giving out balloons and candy. Cutco with their knives. Ten thousand villages had some beautiful fair trade goodies. All vendors had quite a long line. Moi's customers faced a long time in the burning Sun, but Asians love food! Weh? Sold out within 2 hours! The DJ's supplied great vibes inside the VUKA building, which is modern, spacious, air-conditioned, a great place for events. It hosted the space for a Limbo race, and crafting paper fans by 'open eyes beyond border' for the Lil' ones. The event would take place all day, and it is a hot day. A great event! The dragon dance was very much entertaining. People had their dollar bills ready! Oh, how we love to feed the dragon to get luck and prosperity! Yes, yes, Chinese dragons are believed to have control over water, rain, hurricanes and floods. They also represent power, strength and good luck. The Chinese believe that performing the dragon dance during festivals and celebrations drives away evil spirits and ushers in good luck and blessings for the community.

Food trucks parks are a distinctly Austin-ite art form, and this one is pretty good. I was invited…read morehere for a Yelp function and got to sample a number of delicacies on offer from the resident trucks. Of special note is the very good blueberry lemonade from Conscious Cravings, as well as a to-die-for selection of goat cheese from the Chivata Goat Cheese Truck. (Seriously, go check out their trailer and pick up one of their sandwiches, your tummy will thank you.) Pros: Outdoor and *indoor* seating - useful when it rains or bakes in Austin, which it can. Reasonable selection of food trucks, you'll find something to try. Bathroom facilities are fine and not port-a-potties. Cons: Some of the trucks hold odd hours on the weekend. Parking is at a premium, with about a dozen spots and 2 handicapped spots. You can find parking on the side streets but be careful crossing 1st Street as the traffic zooms by at light speed! All in all, this location is well worth a visit!

It's always a plus when cute furry friends are a plus! It is also kid friendly too! I've tried every single food truck in this area and there is just too many good things to say about each and every vendor, from their cooking, and packaging to their service and friendliness!

Waah. Development…read moreand gentrification are destroying the great food truck courts of First Street. Many of the finest ones have either closed or are draining out. What's the issue? Landlords want the land to build new high density apartment buildings. * * * Double Waah. The Bouldin Creek Food Park is still around. Bouldin Creek Food Park is probably the worst of the traditional First Street food courts. It is the northernmost of the First Street food courts - the one nearest to Palmer Auditorium and downtown. It is on a teeny tiny strip of land between First Street itself and the gulch of East Bouldin Creek. The lot is too narrow and oddly shaped to permit high density development. So the landlords are going to leave this place alone. Just as there is precious little room for development, There is also precious little room for the food trucks and the parking. So simply from lack of space, the customers sit practically on First Street itself. The eating tables get the full blast of First Street traffic. The eaters get the noise and the carbon monoxide. They also get the uncompromising blast of the Austin summer sun There is one exception to the rule. If you look carefully, you will find exactly one table in the back that is rustic, quiet and pretty. The East Bouldin Creek Gulch runs there. The gulch has lots of shade and really nice rock cliffs. Picnic heaven? No such luck. The back is where they dump the detritus and spare junk from the food trucks. The back has pallets, framing and extra plastic bottles the carts don't have room for. You are in a eating in a trash pile, a shady trash pile but still a trash pile. * * * Life gets more interesting if you have to go to the bathroom. The bathroom literally is a porta-potty. To be fair, they empty it frequently, so it is not too gross. However, there is no running water to wash your hands after you do your business. Not being able to wash your hands is not great if you intend to eat food afterwards. * * * If the food trucks were absolutely marvelous, one might tolerate the bad location and set-up. The trucks they have are run of the mill. Dawa is better than run of the mill. The rest are ho hum. All of these trucks would be more pleasant in a nicer location. Mueller for example would be a huge promotion for any of them. If you have a food truck you adore, and Bouldin Creek is where it happens to be, all power to you. Enjoy your meal. Enjoy watching the cars drive by. Be sure to go to the bathroom before you leave the house.

UPDATE: They're opening a second location on 9/22/25!!…read moreDeli @ Brushy Street Commons. I stand by what I said over a year ago: The pasta, sauces, hoagies, salads, meatballs, and more are made with love and the freshest ingredients. Even a simple dish like angel hair with marinara invokes memories Sunday gravy in my Nana's kitchen. They're conveniently located in Valhalla in the loft above the second bar and stage area. It's a cozy little spot with minimal seating that makes for a good spot to eat dinner and watch a band or have a romantic, authentic Italian meal with your loved one. Real deal couple who love what they do and you can taste it in every bite.

This place has been HEAVY hyped on my insta feeds, so it's been on my must try list for months…read more Unfortunately that was to its detriment as I may have expected too much! Pros: -hidden upstairs in a dive bar on red river (to some this is a con, but this is hella cool to me) -garlic bread (fire, you'll fill up fast on this so make sure you go with a group) -freshly made pasta -massive portions for the price (again, go with a group!) -great people working there Cons: -fettuccine Alfredo (I am a picky girl when it comes to my alfredo sauce and while theirs is objectively good.. it was not to my taste) -takeaway (ok.. so Italian food doesn't travel well and that's not on them, but there has to be a better way to package so that things can reheat well OR retain their heat without getting soggy) Overall, if I'm drinking in the area, I'll go. Otherwise, I'm sticking to my fav spots.
