A few friends and I ended up finding Shake Smart and taking a Lyft to it because we were looking for some good milkshakes & smoothies and Shake Smart is reviewed so well! Well... I'll say the drinks at Shake Smart are generally good, but you need to be calibrated for what they are -- their shelves are stocked with protein since most of the drinks are protein compatible. That in and of itself is fine, but even the shakes without protein aren't really normal shakes, so much as protein shakes with the protein removed (aka you still get that slightly odd aftertaste even without the protein). Overall the staff is nice and it's quick to get a shake or smoothie here -- just make sure you come in with the expectation that you want a protein-based beverage. read more

Austin summer is hot so acai bowls here usually melt way too quickly so you end up having to deal with purple soup. The solution: scooped acai (eg the rawcai bowl) instead of blended acai! Comes topped with chia seeds, granola, coconut flakes, and sliced banana. There was also strawberry too but it wasn't slices of strawberry - more like couple spoonfuls of macerated strawberry sauce (ie real fruit), which meant it could kind of "coat" the acai. I got the dragon bowl with half agave. It was so good. I actually didn't expect it to be so sweet and was surprised. Next time, I'll probably get it without the agave. Decided on a green tea matcha (under greens and veggies) shake that has vanilla protein. It was ok - a bit on the sweeter side, but it was just ok. However, I was not feeling the price of a little over $5 for a regular size...yeah, I get they offer healthy options (different choices of milk, from almond to soy, etc.), but I'm not sure I'll be a regular customer.
