We love it over her in Pacifica and make an overnight trip of it every time our days off align. This trip I decided to spend a little more for what I thought would be an upgrade from where I usually stay and wow was it a let down. I walked in to check in and Toby greeted me and asked who the room was under. She then proceeded to ask for full payment plus a deposit at which I already had a receipt and online confirmation from. She said that wasn't proof enough and said she needed to call the agency that I booked from just to make sure. I travel A LOT and never had this type of experience. I would have totally understand if she wanted to be sure but she was huffing and puffing and holding her head the whole time as if I just ruined her day. She finally said she'd give me the keys because "she had to" and would be calling the agency to make sure. We finally got to our room and the view did make it some better but the room did assure AC at which it didn't have. All round beautiful view/terrible experience wont be returning read more

This hotel needs to make visitors more aware of the dangers that are in front of their establishment. My son went there as a tourist and was never aware that the ocean/beach was one of the most dangerous waters in the area. I have had the mayor of Pacifica tell me that not that many people drown there, to me one is too many. My son died and no one called 911 for him right away , not even the front desk clerk. Each hotel and the city of Pacifica needs to reevaluate their current signs and postings. I pray to God that no one has to experience the loss that we have. It is the duty of a business to make their guests aware of what is in the area. Duty to warn maybe ? No one should get into those waters unless you are an experienced surfer. My son had no chance that night and the hotel clerk made things even worse by her standing outside smoking while his friends ran up and down the beach looking for him. read more

I have not stayed at the Best Western, but the front desk was so kind to me when I was in the area this past June! I was in desperate need of a quiet work space to take a conference call/use WiFi, however I was staying across the street at another establishment. I couldn't work there because my friends were all asleep in the room (it was around 6AM). They agreed to let me sit in the lobby and work, even though I was not a guest. I really appreciated the hospitality! Thanks again. read more

What a neat little hotel! We got a partial oceanview room and it was awesome. We would open the sliding door every night and listen to the waves all night. There is an awesome restaurant (you HAVE to try the clam chowder. It was the best in the city). The prices are a little steep ($11 for a bowl of clam chowder) but it was worth it. And they give you sourdough rolls with anything you buy. AMAZING! The view of the hotel is amazing, the hotel itself could be a little bit better. Our room's air conditioner didn't work, but it didn't matter since we liked having the cool breeze come in the room. There are some fun little shops within walking distance (a Christmas store, a restaurant, and another hotel). We will definitely be staying again! read more

We arrived to find the hotel had overbooked and instead gave us a room with a king bed and an old roll away that blocked the sliding glass door. The screen door was broken and the dark somberness of the room overall had us running inland as fast as we could get out of Pacifica. read more

My wife and I stayed here last weekend for her birthday for two nights. I was looking for a hotel somewhere relatively close to San Jose since we would be leaving on a Friday night. Only took about an hour if that, and going home we took Highway 1 along the coast which was beautiful. It was a very relaxing experience and would recommend to anybody looking for a quick getaway. The restaurant attached made for a good champagne breakfast. The partial ocean view was refreshing to wake up to every morning, and to hear the waves at all parts of the day and night made for the ultimate relaxation. Would come here again! read more

Nice place on the beach in Pacifica; as it turns out, our nephew and belle-niece spent a few days of their honeymoon here (within easy drive of both SF and Santa Cruz), and I'm here a few weeks later presenting at a conference. Comfortable, splendid front desk and support staff, and the catering for our crowd is Just Right (eggplant & marinara for the veg*ns, and real, ripe tomatoes on the sandwich buffet at lunch? Mm! The free wireless is Just Fine, everywhere in the hotel we've been (all over in different guest rooms and larger group rooms). Recovering from foot surgery, my partner finds the wheelchair accessibility to be great; there are a couple of ramped hallways from here to there in the building, do-able by ArmStrong wheeling; another colleague's power chair is making the grades just fine. Grab bars and wheel-in shower in the accessible rooms, plus room to turn around in the chair, make us both Very happy to be working and resting here. read more

The view and proximity to the beach is the main selling point. Even our courtyard room, which was near a corner, had a fantastic view of the edge of the rocky beach. One afternoon there were dolphins swimming in the cove! Only complaint was I wish there was an easier way to get to the beach from the parking lot, which is slightly underground; as it is, you'd have to walk all the way in/out through the front of the hotel room. Our room was very big, almost unnecessarily so, but one can't really complain about that (we were already in the cheapest rooms). Our room had a separate faucet and sink that we used for our drinking water, there's DirecTV, and fast free wifi (good enough to watch Orange is the New Black). There's a spacious enough minifridge that has those laughably inadequate tiny freezers. That would be less of an issue except as far as I could find there was only one ice dispenser on the premises, at least on our area of the hotel (only on the first floor, closer to the front). There was unfortunately a mild lingering smell of body odor in the room; I didn't bring it up with the front desk so I don't know how they would've dealt with it; I didn't want the hassle of trying to get moved. There's plenty of free parking but the hotel itself is very weirdly laid out; there are lots of twists and turns even though at first glance it should look like a general courtyard-style hotel. Meanwhile you were also right next to some very nice (and relatively easy) hiking trails. Lots of nice photo ops. Note that we came here as part of a wedding block so our room was of reasonable price (around 200/night inc. taxes on a June weekend). This isn't an area where we would vacation normally so I can't exactly say that we'd consider this place if we had more of a choice (it's more like 300/night normally), but looking at the other options nearby it seemed like an appropriate value for the location. read more

We stayed here for several days this past weekend. Overall, it was a great stay and the area is peaceful and beautiful. Knocking one star because of the lack of AC. If your looking for a place to stay outside of the city, this is a must. read more

The view is worth every penny. The hotel is a little dated but clean and provides what you need. It is one of my wife's favorite place to escape to for a quick get away. read more

A great place with excellent views and great hiking trails close by. Price was good and service was too. Our room was super clean as was the rest of the hotel. I have only 2 very minor complaints. 1) One ice machine for 4 floors of rooms? Must have been some serious ice problems in the past. 2) They need a bit of fabric softner for the towels and robes. A rough dry after a nice warm shower. Ouch! read more

My wife and I spent two fantastic nights here. The ocean and mountains view is mind blowing and we loved the waves crashing right in front of our room window (third floor) . The hotel layout is easy to learn and the Resturant has great food and prices for lunch, but more expensive for dinner (for our budget). The staff were very helpful and friendly. Our balcony was great, and I highly reccomend staying at this hotel. Also, its a very short drive to the San Francisco Airport if you need to hop a plane, and a 20 minit drive into San Franciso to enjoy the city. We also enjoyed the hot tub. read more

My wife and I came here for three days and we loved it. Great location and room was right on the ocean. We will definitely be back.

We had a wonderful time here at the BW Plus Lighthouse. The room was way better than any BW I've ever stayed in. While the carpet was stained and the room had a musty smell it was still an Ideal location. Falling asleep listening to the ocean was an amazing treat and the view can't be beat. If you want a great location with a better than expected room-try the BW Plus Lighthouse HOTEL! (Yes it's a hotel and not a MOTEL!) read more

This hotel has to be the worst value for money I've experienced. The location is the only redeeming quality to this hotel. To start, it clearly used to be a smoking hotel and the smell of stale cigarettes is throughout. The hotel was apparently last renovated in the 1980s. The housekeeping staff seems to have mastered coming at bad times. The first time at 4:30PM and the second time at 8:00AM. If there are no other accommodations within twenty miles, just go further, because this place is awful. read more

Wonderful location and great views..walking distance to 2 beaches..They are remodeling but our room was comfortable and large..moonraker restaurant was ok but great view..breakers was good for breakfast..BUT THE BOMB IS NICK'S great food and wonderful service..I want to say thank you for the great service at lighthouse but especially to Madlan she was super and made our stay so much more enjoyable.... read more

We stayed here the first weak of November ,and the weather was FANTASTIC!!! The hot tub was closed due to improvement construction on the walls surrounding it ,BUT they opened it up at night so we could get a good soak before we went to bed. BY FAR!!!!!!! This is the best bang for your buck!! And anybody who goes to the coast to relax ,or get away from all the pressure of business ,and just wants to PARTY! THIS IS THE PLACE!!!! There's Nick's restaurant across the street ,that has live music!! And THE best crab sandwich in the WORlD!!! Plus the hotel restaurant is SUPER romantic!!! But the thing that keeps bringing me back to the Lighthouse , is the people....the staff that works there . These aren't just just robats that go by what there computer tells them. These are trully careing individuals who go out of there way, to make sure you have an enjoyable stay. My hot water wasn't working...3(three) maintenence men showed up to fix it!! My light didn't work....Not only did they fix the light ,but while they were there they made the T.V. work better!! I.ve been all over the world ,but I think I'll keep coming back here . These are people I can count on "making it right". read more

I have been going to this hotel for years, and sadly I have watched it deteriorate over time. The wall paper is rotting and peeling off the walls. It seems they never clean the Windows anymore. The only way to get a good view of the ocean from your room is to open the sliding glass door, otherwise you are looking through a grimy mess of dirt and bird feces. Over the three days of my recent stay there were dirty glasses left outside of rooms, and pieces of trash in the hallways that were never picked up. They used to have a movie ordering service but have done away with that. If the prices reflected the accommodations that would be acceptable but you can drive 30 minutes to Half Moon Bay and stay at a luxury B&B with fireplaces, heated floors, spa tubs, complimentary breakfast, wine and appetizers for the same price. read more

Gross. Arrived late at night with tired kids. First hint of nastiness was the parking garage. Disgusting floor to drag our suitcases on-like the lovely puddle of puke I saw next to our car. Looks like it has never been pressure washed the whole time it's been there. Entering the elevator from the garage-had to let out the pile of people spilling out stinking of booze. Whatever. Got to our floor and the stench of tacos and curry and old food riddled the hallways. Had to hold our breath. Opened the door to both our rooms and the stink emanating from them was incredible! Again, smelled like tacos and the rugs were so disgustingly dirty, I didn't want to touch them without shoes. Only saving grace was that the bathroom was clean-sorta. My kid was gonna sleep on the pull out couch bed but then I read the review on Yelp (which I should have before hubby made reservations) that there were bed bugs. Omg. She slept with us instead-could not wait to get out of there -especially since the walls were so thin that we heard the people next door humping. Left the next morning and lost a weeks worth of non refundable money. read more

BEWARE OF BEDBUGS IN COUCH SOFA!!!!!!!!! My 5 year old son is scheduled for Open heart surgery at UCSF so we decided to stay here and short drive but we love Pacifica ca. The view in our room priceless the staff is very nice was VERY happy till we get ready for bed and pull out the sofa bed only to find bed bugs. Beyond gross but even worse if my son that had been sitting on the couch before the bed was taken out if he has any bites on him from the nasty bed bugs HE'S SURGERY WILL BE CANCELED so this has put my son's life in jeopardy. I call down to the front desk let them know they send maid service up quickly who hands me keys to another room. After I go and check all beds including the sofa bed I move my family to the new room, had to shower him once again and use special wipes from the hospital to help prevent staph, then go speak to the front desk who was very willing to make things right BUT his manager (who was on the phone) only wanted to switch our room the guy at the front desk explained my son having to have open heart surgery how this could jeopardize that etc the manager then was only willing to give 50% discount mind you a Sunday night were already paying $200. I WILL BE CALLING THE HEALTH DEPT RIGHT AFTER MY SON IS TAKEN IN FOR SURGERY(IF IT'S NOT CANCELED NOW) WE WILL NEVER STAY HERE AGAIN. WHICH IS AWFUL CAUSE THE STAFF IS GREAT THE VIEWS ARE GREAT BUT WHO THE HELL WANTS TO PAY $212.35 TO SLEEP WITH BED BUGS AND TAKE THEM HOME WITH YOU. OH SHALL I MENTION SINCE MY SON WAS ON THE COUCH WITH HIS STUFFED ANIMALS THAT HE BROUGHT TO COMFORT HIM FOR THIS HUGE SURGERY HE CAN NO LONGER TOUCH, HOLD OR SLEEP WITH CAUSE THEY COULD BE CONTAMINATED. ...... THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH FOR PUTTING MY SONS LIFE IN JEOPARDY!!!!! BEWARE CHECK YOUR BEDS AND SOFA IF YOU STAY HERE. read more

Amazing location and staff. It's exactly what it claims to be, an OCEAN FRONT hotel on the rugged Nor-Cal coast. To those who complained (REALLY?) about the sound of the waves...HELLOOOO, it's the OCEAN, people! Why the heck would you stay here if you're going to complain about one of Mother Nature's most awsome sounds? And finally, to the people who complained about internet service (Un plug and enjoy yourselves! What's the matter with you people?!) and the guy who complained that it was depressing becasue it was foggy! OMG, dude, you raved about the place but gave it a 2 because of the FOG? Amazing, just freaking amazing! read more

First of all if the room says partial ocean view that means if you go out on the ledge (they call it a balcony but it is only 18 inches deep) and look to one side you will see the ocean through the buildings. The full ocean views look lovely, but partial means you will be looking at the parking lot or buildings. Second, it does smell. Now it is at the ocean so things smell damp but the room is a bit smellier then expected. We had to open the slider to get fresh air. Third, service is hit and miss at best. They didn't refill our room with coffee one day. I asked at the front desk and was told "sorry, it is all locked up until the morning."' Went back about 1/2 hour later because I was steamed. New staff...had it in a second. Fourth, the property is like a maze, but we enjoyed the challenge and getting to explore. Overall, it was fine. A bit expensive, nothing fancy or special but a close walk to the beach and a variety of shops and restaurants. read more

The only reason I'm giving 2 stars versus the very tempting 1 star was because of the view. I booked 4 weeks in advance for my birthday celebration. I usually stay across the street but since the new owners took over the place went down hill plus I wanted an ocean front room so I booked at the Lighthouse. I had room 327, ocean front. The ocean was right there, crazy wonderful view. I kept the sliding glass door opened all night and soaked in the sound of the crashing waves that lulled me to sleep. Ok sounds great right? In a way it was BUT! the bathroom was so nasty and stunk, bad construction, so tight when you are actually in there. I wanted to sit OUT on the balcony, you cannot. It's blocked, you have to stand at the door. They have this crazy rail in front of you, I guess in case you wanted to sky dive head first to your death. I was charged a whopping $323 for one night, which is sooooooo over priced. The furnishings were old, carpet dirty, just wasn't impressed. I don't know if I would stay there again honestly. But if you are expecting this wonderful romantic room to romance your honey with, forget it, go somewhere else. read more

It's a dump. We got the presidential suite as we have been for over 10 years now. The past 2 times were not acceptable. Almost 2 years ago we complained about the non operational(completely disabled) fireplace, something that should be told to people PRIOR to them booking a costly suite. The threadbare and badly stained carpet, stained furniture. When we complained years ago we were told the room was going to be renovated. We were offered nothing to compensate our loss. We booked again 2 years later for our 10th anniversary, we were excited to see the newly remodeled room only to find the same dump but worse, now 2 years older. Torn, shredded curtains, DEAD BABY BIRDS and fish heads on the patio, very visible from our room where we paid all that $$$ for the oceanview, now we have to look at dead things. The birds/fish heads were visible for all who stayed on the 4th floor to see as they waited for the elevator. Staff could care less and it's because the manager Marty could care less about the guests. See the beach sells it so ocean lovers will come but it's not acceptable to be treated so poorly when spending ones hard earned cash. We checked out and went to Nicks right across the street, same beach, also an older hotel but they price according to their aged product unlike the Best Western which apparently feels that it's ok to use the "we are planning a remodel excuse" when a customer complains. By the way it doesn't take 2 years to remodel a room, or a hotel. Shame on the management at this location. The hotel also has no breakfast like most BW'S, the restaurant is awful for breakfast, we go to Nicks. There is no hot water/tea station and the coffee in the lobby is often empty. Worst customer service ever. We won't be staying here anymore read more

We booked a Junior Suite with a full ocean view, looking forward to sitting on the balcony, relaxing and enjoying the view. However when we got there, the actual room was not as depicted on the website. Instead of a balcony with a table and chairs, it was only a foot deep......no way to even stand on the balcony, let alone sit on it. The manager said they remodeled and took out the deck. From the appearance of the existing 'balcony', that was several years ago. Since they haven't bothered to update the picture on the website, take this as a warning. We checked out, went down the highway to Santa Cruz and stayed at Beach Street Inn instead. read more

Beware of what you book. Our reservation stated full ocean view, but the first room we were put into was full parking lot view. We complained and they said that was their full ocean view (she said technically) for that price. I had a hard copy of our confirmation that stated full ocean view, and they grudgingly changed our room. This one had an amazing full ocean view that was to die for, but the rooms are dark and nothing special. It has a sliding door but no balcony or any space to even walk onto. The rooms looked a little worn and were not very large. The other highlight, besides the view, was their restaurant. We started with a happy hour in the bar and then to dining at a table with a great ocean view. The service was very good and the food was pretty good as well. There were some little shops in walking distance and a great breakfast place below, though we never could get into it because the line was very long and we were wanting to move on. We really felt that the hotel's description of rooms and pricing was misleading and if we wouldn't have had the hard copy of the booking, they would not have changed our room. We will not be returning. read more

This was my family's fourth time staying at this hotel in the last five years, the biggest reason we kept coming back was to hear the waves at night while we slept. That being said I will NEVER stay here again. Our first room smelled so bad of mold and urine it burned my throat, then we had to wait 45 mins for another room to be available ( I get it it takes time but why in Gods name would you even give someone a room that smells so bad), we then were told that there would be another room for us for our stay the following night, it would be ready at 12 noon and we could just stay in the current room until it was ready......12 passed......12:30 passed....1:15 and we called down to the front desk, we were told that the room was almost ready and we could change rooms by 1:30..... mind you in this time frame we received three (yes 3) calls from the same front desk asking if we had planned on checking out so they could clean the room. Now with having two young children this delay had totally messed up nap time (not really the hotels fault my kids take a nap at a certain time) but i was so frustrated at this point. 2:12 room was finally ready. We arrived in the room and all seemed well. Went to bed at 9:30 at night and woke up at 7:00, headed out to breakfast (Hotel stopped having free breakfast but didnt tell us). Got back from breakfast at 8:15 and we begun to shower and get ready to check out, my youngest was looking out the slider at the waves. I get out of the shower at 9:05 AM and was told by my husband that the front desk called and asked if our kids would please be quiet and that they had had complaints. I decided to go down tot he front desk (at this point this was the worst stay we had had and some of the worst customer service as well). At the front desk i had the pleasure (insert sarcasm here) of meeting Jessica, who explained to me that she had had 5 complaints since 5AM that my children were being to loud and that we needed to keep them quiet........ I let her know that there was no way my kids were loud at 5AM we were all asleep, and that we had just gotten back to out room 45-60 mins ago, she then proceeded to tell me that if i knew i had OVER ACTIVE children i should have planned and maybe had them swimming in the pool to get out there energy..... Heres where this MOM got a little miffed, i asked her if she had children and all i received was a blank stare, for starters its 9 in the morning, 55 degrees out and cold as hell, who would have there 2 & 5 year old swimming in that weather. I then asked her when this hotel stopped being KID friendly, her reply was that it was a kid friendly hotel but they HAVE A QUITE POLICY FROM 10-10. I asked when that started seems how we have stayed here over the past five years and never been told, or heard of it. She said that it was sort of a unwritten policy and they don't really tell anyone about it unless there are issues. Well how in the heck do you expect anyone to follow such rule if you don't tell them.....Now here is where THE EXCELLENT (SARCASM AGAIN) CUSTOMER SERVICE COMES IN.....I then let her know as nicely that i could that this was the WORST experience in this hotel and we would not be returning she then replied well Im sorry but when i have customers who paid 300 a night complaining i have to call to try to fix it, my reply was so when did there $300 become bette than mine.....Great way of making your customers feel welcome..........She just smirked and walked away. read more

Went with 3 of my sisters for a girls' getaway (we are all in our 40's/early 50's and not quite matured yet). Check in was easy - courteous, helpful, and personable. The hotel itself was in excellent shape - our room had a view that was fabulous - beyond words. We got a little silly at times (e.g. loud laughing, etc.) and received nothing but smiles and grins from staff and other guests. A very, very, nice location with very, very relaxed atmosphere. The icing on this beautiful cake is the Moonraker's Restaurant in the hotel - there aren't enough descriptive words to stress how wonderful it was; however, I would add one little complaint to the glowing review I gave Moonrakers. I caught my reflection on the mini mirror enhancing the room - NOW I've GOT to diet!!! View from hotel and restaurant were spectacular. Planning to send daughter and son-in-law. read more

By far amazing view amazing room great attentive staff .. We came here for a surprise birthday trip let the front know about it 3 days prior and apon arrival I spoke with angelic on the phone and told her the whole surprise shebang and asked her if we can please get a beach front room she told me if avail yes and she will note the surprise birthday when arriving sure enough she did so!!!!! I spoke with iene!? Sorry if I butchered the name but asked him is there any upgrades available he said "nope best room and view u already have " ahhhh' Angelic kept her word, then we explained the surprise to him as well assured me that everything will be ok when she fake check ins (since room is under us and we were already checked in) so we get to our room and it's clean and freaking beautiful ocean is across from the balcony I was so impressed and happy!!! Then we were a little hungry so we looked for the menu since they do have room services and a restaurant here, couldn't find it in the room and sure enough after one phone call here is Iene at the door with it!! Service , location , room everything was awesome ! So happy we chose her my friend was totally surprised and inlove with our room only complaint that the front called us and asked if we were smoking and that someone complained ?!?? Only thing I can think of that would have caused that is possibly the small party poppers have a little smokey smell at the end and when our friend walked in we popped about 5 of those lol!! First time at this particular Best Western and no complaints here. The only thing that was important to us was to find a good room with a great view and we were definitely not disappointed. I called in my reservation and talked to the reservation clerk and expressed my concerns that some Yelp reviews had said an ocean view was not a true ocean view. She said we would get a view and we did. What was a pleasant surprise is that we got a King Junior Suite and didn't even realize it until we walked in. So spacious! Yes it's an older hotel. Buts it's a beach front hotel. And it's not dirty. Staff is great. Onsite restaurant Moonrakers was perfect. And we tried Breakers right next door for breakfast. What's to complain about? Absolutely nothing! The only suggestion I would make and it's not a complaint..is that the room is so large it could have two small swivel chairs to look out at the view or to turn and watch TV. The room has a couch and a desk chair. The way the room is situated you can only watch tv from the bed and using desk chair. read more

Best Western Plus?!! Best Western MINUS is more like it. Staff training and communication needs to improve. Because I have limited mobility, before I make reservations, I make sure certain things are available to me: shower chair, wheelchair, etc. Before leaving, I called to verify shower chair, etc., were available and was told everything was set. Upon my arrival, the person at the desk told me the hotel was under no obligation to promise availability of a wheelchair or shower chair and in fact had none. It was very upsetting, especially since I was traveling alone. "Room with a partial view" is a misnomer. The room is illogically designed. The view was best from the closet! Then the bathroom. View of the ocean could only be seen when standing. When sitting the balcony railing blocked any view of the ocean. The sink is behind the bathroom door-- why? There is a large picture window on the other side of the room where people walking in the outside hotel corridor can see into the room-- why? Am I a fish in an aquarium? The TV can only be conveniently viewed from the bed (I'm not a person who normally watches TV in bed) and can barely be seen from couch or chair of the junior suite. Was told there is room service, so I'd be able to get breakfast or lunch. Turns out, after the staff checked multiple times trying to get the hours right, it is only available from 5-9 pm. read more
