I ordered a simple Honey Ginger Root tea (which I thought was overpriced at $6.25) - it surprisingly came on a wooden tray with a personal tea pot, honey in a mini creamer jar, a double walled glass mug with fresh ginger slices. This is tea time GOALS! They have a variety of decadent waffles that are super instagrammable. Speaking of Instagram, their living plant wall makes for a great photo backdrop. 3.5 stars. I was looking for a place to have a business meeting that had tea (since I have stopped drinking coffee) while providing various options to the person I was meeting. Light Cafe also has coffee and food options. Upon walking in around 4pm, there were only a few patrons and a couple of employees behind the counter. It was difficult to get their attention because they were preparing drinks or cleaning up. We were eventually seated, but had already decided what teas we wanted to order. I decided to order a jasmine tea. The waiter came by with small cups of water before bringing the tea. The tea pot and tea cups were well thought out. The tea pot and tea cups were plastic and were double-walled so that you don't burn your hand when pouring or drinking. The waiter was very attentive in refilling our water. The restaurant itself is particularly nice. It's spacious with many tables. The light fixtures were interesting. I also liked the wall of plants. Plants brings a bit of joy. The highlights: Light cafe is aesthetically pleasing, especially their greenery wall, and marble tables. It gives the restaurant an initial "I think I choose the right place" mentality. The food was pretty good! I had the Sukiyaki Beef & Kimchi croissant. Boy was that a rollercoaster of a meal! The croissant was very flaky, and the contents within the sandwich kept falling out - this left a mess all over me, the small wooden plank/plate, and the table. If the sandwich didn't taste so damn good, I probably would've docked more than one star. However, the real star of the meal was the cotton candy coffee. I've walked by this place numerous times and never went in, usually because I'm on Baldwin to go to one of a few restaurants I'd become a regular at such as Wah Sing or Valens. When my go to spots were full I ended up coming here. As an appetizer I got the crispy bacon waffle fries (the sauce is the best part) and the chicken curry risotto. Overall the food is well seasoned and has a good taste but it's not an addictive taste to run home over. For desserts, they have everything from delicious fruit and ice cream topping waffles to pastry desserts like mille-feuille and cream puffs. They also have a wide variety of drinks too! Cute cafe atmosphere with instagram worthy presentations. The food wasn't anything special. I got the 25pc mini pancakes with eggs benedict, waffle fries, bacon, breakfast sausage and a little salad. I also got the Uji matcha latte. My boyfriends food came 15 minutes before mine, we had to ask to check on when it was coming and by the time we ate both our dishes were cold. Went here to order a drink for takeout and got to sit at a table while I waited. I ordered the (iced) uji matcha latte and I was surprised to see espresso in it because usually matcha lattes just come with matcha unless specified. That threw me off a bit haha and the drink was alright, it just tasted weird with the coffee and that the matcha was not well mixed as I saw clumps at the bottom. My experience at the Light Cafe wasn't anything out of the ordinary. The decor is cute and simple. Added onto this is the fake greenery on one of the walls, which makes it a great back drop for IG photos. If you visit, try to cop one of the seats in front of this wall, so you can snap away! I was really excited to come see this cafe after looking at the menu: the idea of fusing Italian food and Japanese food seemed really cool and boy, the food did not disappoint. I ordered the creamy lobster risotto and I was really worried that it wouldn't be that good considering I didn't see any photos of it on yelp, but it was actually very tasty! It was super creamy, and there was a generous amount of lobster bits scattered throughout the risotto, not chewy at all too. If anything, I just wish the slice of garlic bread they gave me was a bit bigger or they gave me more slices. My girlfriend had the sukiyaki onsen egg pasta and that was absolutely delicious too. The egg was cooked beautifully and the beef was also pretty tasty. My girlfriend really liked it and finished her dish before I did. Definitely understand why it's a favourite here! Mango waffles are great for the kiddos and adults that are kids at heart! I had heard that reservations were recommended here so I made a booking for us four for 6 p.m. When we walked in that night, there were indeed a lot of people there already and I'm glad that we had a table available for us right away. After we placed our orders, the items came out in a staggered fashion. For example, my dessert came out first, followed by one quickly. It came with a scoop of black sesame and vanilla ice cream in a small dish. The highlight of this dish is that all of the waffles are shaped like hearts. There was also a mini pitcher of black sesame sauce to drizzle over the waffles. There was a piece of dragon fruit and one blackberry on some whipped cream too. I really enjoyed the black sesame ice cream! It was really flavourful. However, for L's portion, it had started to melt really quickly, which was a disappointing part because she detests melted ice cream. I thought that the waffles were pretty good; they were not too mushy or hard and were easy to eat through with the ice cream and black sesame sauce. It was a lot for one person though and I even gave one waffle heart to my friend. I tried the Strawberry Mille-Feuille that C got and it was quite good! It looked like a pastry tube with cream and strawberries on top, a scoop of strawberry ice cream, and a pipette of strawberry sauce. The pastry was really flaky. D got the Choco-Banana Mille-Feuille. This was also a pastry tube with chocolate sauce, bananas, chocolate, and a pipette with chocolate sauce instead to drizzle on top of the dessert. It was very rich. Overall, I'm really glad that I got to try Light Café finally. All things considered, I thought that it was a really cute café, definitely fit for instagramming due to its aesthetically pleasing creations and modern stylish environment. Also, I think that if Light Café wants more business, perhaps they should provide credit and debit payment options too instead of just cash only. Are you Asian? Well even if you aren't, and you're just "Asian", you'd feel right at home here. This place smells SO GOOD. it smells like a fresh creme bakery, instantly making me feel better. The atmosphere is like a trendy diner with a Japanese - American inspired menu. The focus is on breakfast foods, salads, sandwiches, and sweets. There's no sausages, bacon or eggs here. Instead, you get awesome waffles, sandwiches, and salads. Finish it off with a wonderful cheesecake or coffee and youll feel like a Japanese waifu by the time you leave here.
