5-Star Review After…read morea very frustrating series of framing failures at Mitre & Bevel in Cathedral City, Art Works Gallery & Picture Framing Center in Palm Desert restored my faith in professional picture framing. I am a professional artist preparing work for an upcoming exhibition on a tight deadline. Mitre & Bevel had repeatedly cut rabbet openings too small for my stretched canvases--three separate times--blamed the artwork instead of their poor workmanship, and refused to properly stand behind their work. I was left with only a few days to find a solution before my exhibition delivery deadline. I brought my painting and some older frame pieces to Art Works Gallery & Picture Framing Center and explained the situation and the urgency. The difference was immediate. The owner treated me professionally, respectfully, and knowledgeably. She understood the issue instantly, measured the canvas properly, allowed correct clearance in the rabbet (as any competent framer should), and even cut down and reworked the existing frame pieces I brought in to create a proper fit. This was done as a rush job, and the frame opening was cut perfectly--the canvas dropped in cleanly, sat flat, and required no shaving, forcing, or compromise. No excuses. No blame-shifting. Just correct craftsmanship. My painting was framed immediately and correctly, and delivered in time for my exhibition without stress or drama--confirming that the canvas had never been the problem. If you are a professional artist, collector, or anyone who values their artwork, this is the frame shop you want. Art Works Gallery & Picture Framing Center clearly understands proper museum framing standards, takes pride in their work, and treats customers with professionalism and respect. After dealing with poor workmanship and poor customer service at Mitre & Bevel, this shop was a breath of fresh air. I will be bringing all my future framing work here and recommend Art Works Gallery & Picture Framing Center without hesitation.

Jason, the owner has now responded to my review, after over eight months, but notably has not…read moreaddressed or disputed any of the specific workmanship and customer-service issues I described above in my initial review from January. Instead of apologizing and trying to make things right and keep my business, due to their poor framing and as a former long-time customer, he states that I was "permanently banned" because of alleged "repeated incidents of being disrespectful" to employees. I strongly dispute that characterization. At no time was I disrespectful to any of their employees and had been doing a lot of business with the previous owners close to 10 years..until they sold Mitre & Bevel to Jason. I did firmly object to receiving an improperly fitted frame for the third time and to being told that my canvas was the problem rather than the frame. More importantly, the owner's response does not acknowledge or address the central facts of my review: Did Jason at Mitre & Bevel measure my canvas himself, with me present? Yes. Was the resulting frame opening too small for the canvas to fit? Yes. Was this the third time I experienced this problem with frames they made for me? Yes. Was I told that they routinely "shave" rabbets when they are too small? Yes. Did I request that the frame be properly remade rather than altered after the fact? Yes. Did the owner instead choose to refund my deposit? Yes. And was the same canvas subsequently framed correctly and without difficulty by another professional framing business in town? Yes. Those are the issues my initial January review highlights. Rather than addressing any of those specific points, the owner's response attempts to shift the discussion to a false allegation about my behavior that I categorically dispute. Readers can decide for themselves whether Jason's response adequately addresses the detailed frame workmanship problems described in my review. I stand by my account of my bad experiences and by my decision, after three unsuccessful framing jobs with Mitre & Bevel, to take my professional artwork elsewhere to be framed properly.
