Garage Dance Studio & Coffee Lounge

If you're from around the area, you might have noticed a familiar barista at a few independent…read morecoffee shops. His name is Taki Tanaka, and he's a master at crafting any coffee you might desire. He can be currently found at the very unique space combining dance and drinking coffee, Garage Dance Studio & Coffee Lounge. While the dance studio and the coffee lounge share the same space, they don't share the same hours of operation. I was here a few months ago, to find the coffee portion in the dark and the dance floor in full bloom! I came again yesterday afternoon, to find the opposite. This time the coffee lounge was open, and no one was on the dance floor. The inside is set to look like you're in somewhere in Madrid amongst the colorful buildings, where the tables are all adorned with red tablecloths. Of course, the barista working was Taki Tanaka. We chatted briefly and he made me the most delightful Honey Fig Latte. It was creamy, foamy, with a beautiful rose art design he hand poured himself. This was mildly sweet, rich in coffee, utterly satisfying with each sip. I just wish there was dance to see.

I decided to order a Chai Latte because I had never tried it before. I don't drink coffee, but the Chai Latte was good. For me, it needed to be a little sweeter, but all in all, it was a Chai Latte. There is also a dance studio located inside the coffee shop. They offer dance lessons, and the inside, from the dance clothes to the others hanging from the window, gives off a Latin vibe.

The Killing Kompany Comedy Mystery Dinner Shows

The Killing Kompany Comedy Mystery Dinner Shows

I can't say enough about the Killing Kompany…read more We found them through attending the shows at Ruth's Chris. We decided to hire them to do our wedding. We started off the day with the power going out. There was uncertainty about what was going on with our wedding, but of course the show must go on. Luckily they had a battery operated sound system that allowed us to be able to speak on the mics during the ceremony. It saved the ceremony, for sure. The power went on right after we kissed (awww). The show was fantastic after that. They kept everyone upbeat. They were funny, and great, and I loved every minute of it. I would hire this company again in a heartbeat. The way they handled disaster was amazing. Jon kept my husband (!!) on the positive side during panic. Everybody raved about how great they were and how much fun they had. I knew that they would be awesome, but their help with this crazy situation helped to save our wedding. Can't wait to attend more shows! Eventually we'll solve it, I promise!

It's a murder mystery at a restaurant or bar. So, I want to say that cute maybe isn't the best word…read moreto use to explain it. Tonights was out in Patchogue, LI at a bar restaurant called OFF KEY TIKKI. The food though they tried, wasn't good. I believe one of the meat dishes might have been bad and I stuck with the turkey. When you go to these events, the food is usually standardly basic and its the show you are really there for. Bar drinks and desserts were not incorporated in the 60. dollar plus added gratuity to the total, paid before entering. This murder mystery was a bit uhh quirky. One note is to, be there on time. I was under the impression that it was food from 7:30 - 8:00 pm and then the performance murder mystery. Just at 8:00 I walked in and already had missed the gun shooting of the lead victim. The young lady playing the cop, went right along in roll and questioned me as to why I was late and where I was a short time ago. The police officer she was portraying had clothing not up to snuff with black sneakers. The overall acting could have used tweaking. But as it is for entertainment, I went along and got into it asking people around me all kinds of questions. There was a scene of someones head but it was not made clear to the audience quite how that fit in. However Jon Avner artistic director and founder of the company, who writes and customizes the stories to fit the request and need of the people who higher his company, actually was pretty funny and acted well in the part with the interaction of the audience participants. Some of them were pretty funny too. Near the end of the performance the audience and suspects are given a paper form to fill out along with a pencil that reads Murder? 1-888 shoot em and asking to write, basically, Who done it and why. Then the chosen best audience actors get a few gifts and the person who comes closest to the correct-who done it gets a shirt and some other goodies, this time including some handcuffs. Again, all in good fun. Ok, so I was the one who logically wrote that it was the Lieutenant. It wasn't. But I choose not to say more to prevent any spoiler alert. As for the place, while the people there were nice and it is a local bar and not one I would likely frequent, 3 stars is about it for their rating.

It is located across from the Peter J. Sharp Building ( where I usually see movies) and next to Whole Foods, housed in the L10 Arts and Cultural Center. I was greeted by the kind employee and he instructed me to go to the 2nd floor to see my film. I entered and two engineers or project managers? were speaking and I stated " Wow, this is really cool!". They smiled and said "This is Day 3 of the cinema opening". I was in a popcorn and soda mood, picked my snacks up at the Concession Stand and walked to my movie room. I walked down a sleek hall with round leather "pouf" orange ottomans; perfect to sit and wait outside for your movie to start. I love the movie theaters that are small and sleek... oohhh what have we here? Leather seating, leg room, big screen and less crowds!" The popcorn and soda were fresh and delicious. The entire staff were wonderful and courteous. BAM is surrounded by cool restaurants like Olea and Miss Ada, Apple for shopping, and nearby Atlantic Avenue Mall. I haven't been a regular moviegoer as I used to be, COVID unfortunately impacted that habit. However, when I do go to see a movie or actor that really motivates me to patronize movie theaters, BAM is now on my top 3 movie theater venues. See ya at the movies! The theater reminded me of what it used to be going to the theater. We were in Theater 3 and the entry was arched and the theater was ornate. There was so much seating, at least 150 seats, and there is not reserved seating. The seats do not recline , but do have cup holders. Leg room was a bit tight. Sound was excellent , it is surround sound and the screen was clear. A great place to watch a movie.
