He was entrenched behind two earlier professional attempts at basic training, years of uncontrollable bad behaviors and outbursts with any visitor to our home--he was impossible to appreciate. I had seen our neighbors hire Katie for their pup and asked her to come and give us an opinion of our boy to see if there was any chance of getting the wild one to settle down. Even our last trainer had ended their efforts with the comment: "Good luck with that one." No one could have prepared me. Within 5 minutes she had him wrapped around her little finger trying his very best to please her. Who was this and how could a complete stranger command such attention and respect from the incorrigible wonder? And how I get her to come again and train our dog? Her lifelong experience and knowledge of how to handle canines is extensive. She worked with both my husband and I as a team and within two sessions, I could see a massive change in Trooper's whole personality. From being an arrogant, acting out, rude toddler (his true personae at the time) to a truly enjoyable and loving pet wanting to do what we asked, Katie made it happen. We went with the board + train option and are so glad we did! We received multiple updates a day with pictures, videos, and progress updates letting us know what training and commands were being worked on that day. We also had some diarrhea issues with our pup recently and Lauren was nice enough to try different foods with our girl to see what worked with her stomach and what didnt (something we were too scared to do lol), and once we were back home, Lauren came and dropped our pup off at our house so she could do an in-home training session with us to go over all of the training she got, which was such an awesome bonus. What I especially liked is Julie trains the owner not just the pup. It is not that Julie trains the dogs, but to me the most important part, is she step by step has the owner and pup work together. This nervousness manifested in showing aggression a couple times when she felt threatened by strangers. Since my fiance and I plan to have children in her lifetime, we were told by our previous trainer that Maebe would not be a good dog with kids in the house, and we should give her back to the rescue. We were devastated at the thought of having to give her up. We called Pit Bull Rescue San Diego and told them our dilemma. They recommended Amanda, citing her history in rehabilitating skiddish pit bulls. Our first session with Amanda ended in complete relief and hope that we can have Maebe as a dog with children in the house. Amanda showed us how to change Maebe's fears into happiness with lots of positive reinforcement whenever something scary was nearby. She worked out Maebe's fear of bikes, skateboards, and strangers. Amanda showed us how to control the situation in all cases, and keep our dog calm and happy at all times. A few months later, we now have a great, happy dog with a large repertoire of tricks. We have had parties at our house with many new people, and the dog handled it great thanks to Amanda's tips. She still gets scared of people, but we know exactly what to do to manage the situation for the best possible outcome for our dog, our guests, and our future kids.
