Christy and Darla at Kirins Kennels were what EVERY business should have...a smile and good vibes. I had a great 1st experience with them. Our family and I were leaving for the weekend and needed to find a place for Kona that was clean, safe, and enough room for her to play around. Kirins Kennels, like in the name ARE kennels...but what sold us was Konas actual space she had...(i wish I took more pics) In her kennel she had an indoor space w/a bed, leading out to her own patio and down the ramp(pictured is a pretty decent chain linked enclosed dog run for her. she had neighbors so even though there no actual contact, she was not alone and isolated. Under new management is an understatement! The place is very clean, huge dog runs and awesome service!

We boarded our puppy Piper here while on vacation. It was the first time we've used Kirin and Piper did great! They sent us pictures while we were gone to show our daughters and Piper came home clean and well cared for! We have paid twice as much for other places and she has come home smelling like urine! Piper loves being outside, so being able to go in and out was a huge plus! It is more country living for the dogs, but they are well cared for and we will definitely use Kirin again! read more

Just found this gem. Boarded my 14 year old deaf dog and my 14 year old cat. Christy took such good care of them.

Christy is super responsible and trustworthy. She spoils our little one and has done so since he was a puppy. The place was a bit run down when she started but she's making big improvements. I was in a bit of a bind, as two dogs I am fostering for a charitable organization (Dogs on Deployment, for a military couple on orders) aren't allowed at another kennel I use. A friend recommended Kirin, she heard good things about them from other people, including the receptionist at the vet's office. The facility is a little tucked away, behind the main house. We had to call to figure out where to go. We were also running a little late for their official drop-off time, they were very accommodating. Each dog or household (dogs in the same household) are kenneled separately with fenced access to outside with a ramp going to the sleeping area. I asked that the two dogs be separated, for which they didn't charge me extra. In fact, the owner offered a discount immediately over the phone when he found out I am fostering the two, and the boxer's (June) aggression toward smaller dogs would not be an issue. The kennels were clean, there wasn't a dog smell, and the manager, Julie, was very nice. My fosters were going to be there for six days, so I was worried. She was reassuring in that June would not have any access to other dogs. The sleeping area was completely indoors, and heated appropriately for the weather. When I came to get them, Julie mentioned the terrier's (Lana) timid personality, and she even sat in the kennel trying to get Lana to warm up to her. This tells me she didn't just feed and clean the kennel (which was also clean upon our arrival), she actually spent some time with them. I am happy with Kirin, and may switch to them altogether from my normal kennel. VERY reasonably priced, even full price is $20 per dog per day, including food. read more

Christy is an absolute angel. We have boarded with her multiple times and we are so grateful that we found her. She has absolutely gone out of her way more than once to help us with the pups when we need her. The kennel is very nice, always clean and I never worry when she is in charge of my two. She even made emergency evacuation arrangements during their last stay when the wildfire was within 10 miles of the kennel. Can't give her enough GREAT reviews! read more

We have taken our two dogs here twice now. We have a 8yr. old pug and a beagle who is 11. Julie & Cheryl are so friendly and accommodating. We love that our pets can be together in the same area and have a protected area to sleep as well as an outdoor run to play and go potty! Our pug needed eye drops twice a day and all went well with that. This is not a fancy, foo~foo place but neither is the fee....so very reasonable & clean. Fantastic! I went on holiday leave back to the east coast with my boyfriend and we needed to find a reasonably priced boarding facility for our two dogs (male GSD and female Amer. Staff.). This place was recommended to me by one of my co-workers who knows the owner Julie. She was accommodating and friendly and quoted us at $30/day total. For two large dogs in this city, $30/day is a steal! We boarded them for 13 days and our total came out to $390 even. WOW! Other facilities we looked at in the SD area were quoting between $1100-$1400 for 13 days...YIKES! We kept two blankets of ours with the dogs along with some of their dog toys. We received each item when we picked them up. The facility can accommodate a good amount of dogs and each has their sleeping area with a door connected that opens into a run to play and go to the bathroom. The workers are attentive to cleaning up after the pets and are super sweet to each one. Considering I used to work at an animal hospital and boarding facility, I was pleased with the overall experience here. OF COURSE my dogs were a little smelly when I picked them up but, it was mostly because they'd been playing outside most of the day AND it was raining. We get them groomed once a month at another location and they will be going tomorrow. I can handle one day of smell. :) I brought my dogs home and they are currently passed out, which lets me know they are exhausted from playing. If I could I give them zero stars I would. I only looked at the dog boarding closest to me on Yelp. And this one happened to have great reviews but only 2. Should have known better. I called ahead of time to make sure my dog had a reserved spot for while I was out of town. I spoke to the manager I believe her names Julie or something she was very to the point, she sounded busy. My grandma dropped her off for me while I was at work. She said the place was clean. Which was comforting. My dog stayed in total 2 days. I let them know in a directions letter what time she would be picked up. When she arrived they told her she had to wait because she had an accident on her blanket. My dog does not go to the bathroom on her bedding. Ever. And my dog stunk like her own mess, so badly it was hard to stand the scent of her in the car. Her bedding had to be soiled the whole time for her to smell that way. And they must have checked her kennel right before she was picked up, reason for them still being in the dryer when she was picked up. She needed a bath so badly, and they also say they're groomers. Honestly I will never give this place my business again and I wouldn't recommend it. Thought I'd save somebody else from being this upset with how poorly their animal was being cared for. read more
