I've been a member for about a month now, and so far, I'm enjoying Life Time! I have not had the chance to check out any of the other locations (I only go to the Downtown gym) but supposedly they are bigger and have more amenities. Nevertheless, the downtown location is clean, well-staffed, and has all the equipment and classes you could need or want. I've gone at busy, peak hours and still been able to find spots to work out. I like that there are water stations and towels available all throughout the gym, as well as TVs throughout the gym to help you through your workout. When I joined, I was given a complimentary personal training session and an intro session, which was really helpful in learning the layout of the gym and different workout configurations that will work best for my body and fitness goals. I have also had the opportunity to check out a bunch of classes, too, and my favorite by far has been sculpt with Natalie or with Jay. Both are phenomenal instructors, and I swear I have never sweat so much in my life as I do in their sculpt classes! Worth it! The locker rooms are very clean and well-equipped with towels, shampoo/conditioner/lotion, feminine products, hair care technology (blow dryers, flat irons, etc), mouthwash, deodorant, etc. The only thing I will say is that the sauna in the women's locker room is pretty small and only seats 4-5 people. They also keep it at a pretty low heat for a dry sauna (~140-150) for some reason. Nevertheless, it does the job eventually, you just may not have a spot to sit at peak times. read more

Normally go here in the mid afternoons to avoid the crowds. What I like about this location is they have multiples of most machines and the equipment and the facility is kept pretty clean. Most everyone wipes down the equipment after use and they have towels as well. Parking is also free on the 3rd level of the parking garage. There aren't as many classes here or spa facilities but if you just want to workout this is a good gym. The cardio machines are fairly modern as well and sync easily with your Apple Watch too. Over-crowded, over-priced, with a blatantly self-serving guest pass policy Free weight area is painfully cramped, few mirrors and anxiety-inducing layout with even a moderate crowd. They just can't figure out how to make the space work and you totally feel it. You have to be very strategic about what time of day and go if you need to do free weights. Even by 6am this place is a mad house. Guest policy is unlike any other gym. "4 free guest passes a month!" Except you can't bring the same person back within 60 days... so in other words, "bring new people only and do our marketing for us!". Went to Castle the other day with a friend and they were confused when I asked if I could come back in the same month on a guest pass - they looked at me oddly and said "Oh yeah, of course." Half the treadmills don't work, drinking fountain doesn't work, the faucets in the men's lockeroom don't work etc. some machines are out of order and outdated. Lifetime dues are some of the highest in Austin. It is ultra clean and the staff is very friendly. You can do much better. read more

Nice staff, clean facility, and has everything I need to stay in shape! People are also respectful and doesn't give off a grungy / creepy vibe like other gyms. Management at other Lifetime locations seems to be good, but don't get a membership at this location if you are a man and are interested in the sauna. The sauna is broken for about 1/10th of the year. It does not at all seem to be a priority at all to get it fixed in a timely manner. Member for about 8 months. Lost weight. Built muscle and started doing pilates so the overall experience was positive. The staff is great. Leah. Annie. Tim. All great and the support people are also very pleasant. The gym etiquette here is off and declining. Machines are covered in sweat. Guys "calling" multiple machines at once with bags and towels and the phones. The phones. I'm not exaggerating when I say 80% of people here are staring at a phone. That number seemed crazy to me so actually started counting when I worked out and it really is 80%. Obviously if 8 out of 10 people are doing something, it's working for them and it's working for the gym so this is really just a personal problem for me. So why write the review? If you're like me and looking to join a fancy gym to push yourself to a higher level of health and fitness, you'd be better off trying other gyms out first. You can do so much more in a shorter period of time just working out and keeping your heart-rate up instead of lounging around a "fitness country club," as Lifetime calls it. read more

As of 5/18 Every Lifetime Fitness in Texas is now open except the four gyms in Austin. Why? This gym is not as clean or well maintained as it used to be. I love this gym. I travel frequently for work, etc. and can use the gyms in other states. Robin is an amazing instructor and all the programming is great. You can do CrossFit style classes or really anything you can think of. Or you can do your own thing (weights and cardio). This place use to be immaculate with one full time cleaning person to take care of dust and sweat removal. This is NOT THE CASE ANYMORE. Dust all over the machines and sweat never cleaned. This is a great gym!! With excellent programming for classes. I'm a Lifetime a member in SoCal and Austin... I travel to Nashville and FL often as well. Lifetime Fitness is a bit upscale- and worth it!!! why not surround yourself with quality and consistency if you love a healthy lifestyle and want to be surrounded by people that value the same. The Lifetimes are consistent, clean, helpful enthusiastic staff.... Plenty of space for traditional or functional fitness, weights and machines. There is also a cafe with fresh food and protein shakes. The classes are top rate for men and women!!! Try to get a guest pass. Or go with a current member that gets 2 guest passes every month. I was a longtime member of Pure Austin, a gym that I loved. When Lifetime purchased them, I was initially impressed. The gym finally had all new equipment, tvs at every treadmill, and newly renovated bathrooms and saunas. The first sign of trouble was that Pure's long time trainers, who were excellent, left in droves. The next sign of trouble, as soon as COVID restrictions were lifted, Lifetime opened right back up. They didn't enforce their mask requirements, nor did they have good distancing in the gym. Now, that the mask orders have been lifted, I no longer feel safe working out at this location. read more

Well hello there! Yup, Mr. Smidgens here. I have been coming to this gym since back in 1998 when it was Powerhouse gym. It became Pure Austin during that timeline. The gym was great! It was always spotless with a cleaning crew like no other in town. Pure Austin was the place to be. Everyone wanted to be a member. It was an Austin gym owned by Austinites with members who appreciated and respected that it was unique. The old owners decided to sell recently and Lifetime Fitness bought them out. The corporate feel soon took over. Don't get me wrong, I get it. The 24 Hour Fitness, Golds gym, and Plantet Fitness all have a place in the gym world. This gym used to stand out. Now it is part of the corporate gym world. They came in and renovated the entire gym. New equipment, new floors, new walls, new locker rooms. The whole nine yards. They did a great job for a corporate gym. This gym is still my home away from home for now and might always be. It just feels like something is missing. If you love corporate gyms then this place is for you. If you're a long time Lifetime member, welcome. See you out there getting yours!! read more

I dont believe any of the negative reviews. This place is incredible. I just got here from California and it's one of the nicest gyms in town. The facility is beautiful , extensive equipment, and a huge space. What more do you need ? I never found myself searching for a piece of equipment. They actually DO Enforce mask wearing. I never saw any one not wearing a mask there. I never felt unsafe. They keep the facilities and machines super clean (always wiping them down). Everything is sanitized. And you have an option to sanitize any piece of equipment yourself. They have sanitizer bottles with towels. One more thing, matt was the best. He is the sales manager. Super professional, friendly, passionate about the club, and there to help answer any questions. He wasn't super pushy. A really great guy. I can't recommend this place enough. It's perfect. Plus the location can't be beat! read more

I am concerned they will be closed for not enforcing the mask laws. Some members seem to think the only time you need to wear a mask is when entering the club or walking around. Unfortunately, the new requirements don't allow you to discard your mask if you are just near or on a work out station. I'm not sure allowing people to discard the mask on treadmills is an allowed exception either. Hope they stay in business. read more

This is one of the best Downtown gyms I've ever been to. The equipment is all up to date, and everything is kept very clean and tidy. All the members I've interacted with are friendly and courteous. The staff is very welcoming and friendly as well. If you're looking for a gym in the Downtown Austin area, I toured several others in the area, and none of them even come close to being as nice as Lifetime. The place is a joke, it ranked as "Diamond level" which the highest level of service, yet it offers the minimum amount of service possible! No swimming pool, the lockers are very small and smelly, the cycling room is within the weight-lifting room. It feels total mess. $149/month membership ($40 more than any other Lifetime gym) only the location in downtown Austin is convenient but not the services offered read more

I have been to dozens of other lifetimes before. This one takes the cake as the worst. The mens sauna is closed more than it's open. Not to mention it only fits 4 people. They claim this is a diamond level gym, but can't keep their equipment and facilities from breaking every other week. For the past 48 hours they've claimed their power is out so only half the gym is open, and keep in mind it's already 1/4 the size of your typical lifetime. Overall just terrible for the price. read more

I joined the original Pure Austin back in 2005 and have stuck with this gym as it has transitioned to Lifetime. Since I am grandfathered in at a monthly rate of $59, it is a tough decision to leave, but that time may have finally come. I spent 10 minutes circling the 3rd floor parking garage this evening trying to find a spot and then finally gave up and parked in an unauthorized spot on the 2nd floor. Then when I entered the gym, every stair-stepper, treadmill (3 of which were broken) and spinning bike was occupied. The old gym was a welcoming local facility that catered to many athletes and others with fitness goals. It had a robust group class schedule and was impeccably clean. The new gym feels totally corporate, it is not as clean, and the equipment is not well-maintained. They made some changes that are baffling including getting rid of the Concept 2 rowing machines for some inferior Lifetime-branded product. In addition, Lifetime continually tries to "upsell" other services and products. The group exercise schedule is anemic and the new clientele is skewed towards Instagrammers taking selfies or people talking loudly on their cellphones while working out. If that's the kind of scene you are interested in, then this gym is for you! read more

I have been a member of Lifetime for over 10 years and used to think they were more than a gym and actually cared about my health. As it turns out, they don't. According to the Downtown manager, Jared Fowler, masks are not required when exercising which seems like the entire time you are in the gym. He told me this while he was not wearing a mask which I found ironic because he was not exercising obviously. They don't enforce members to wear a mask and many don't. They also stopped taking temperatures which seems contrary to good common sense. I wish they were serious about their members health instead of their money. read more

There are many clients who do not protect their fellow gym goers by wearing masks or providing social distancing. Unlike other gyms the staff never asks members to observe rules and offer at unmasked themselves. People have contracted the virus from the club. Pretty good gym. I don't love their equipment. It's not the best in terms of biomechanics/resistance profiles. It's pretty , and overall a beautiful/clean gym. But if you're a hardcore lifter you may be disappointed. More of a spa/leisure club than a gym-goers paradise. Very nice though. I love to use all the amenities. read more

After the addition in march, this is hands down the best gym in austin. The gym is clean and spacious (I've never been in a cleaner gym), the members are great, and the staff is highly professional. There are a lot of old, poor reviews primarily because people become upset when a big corporate gym chain takes over a small, local company - this is completely understandable, but it's difficult to leave an objective review in these circumstances. Also, most of these poor reviews occured before the renovation - this is a whole new gym now with much more equipment and classes. I'd urge everyone to consider what would have happened if Lifetime didn't buy out Pure. Would Pure have been able to pay the rent here after COVID19? I doubt it. Would Pure have been able to renovate and expand like lifetime has, adding power racks and almost doubling the floor space? I think not. Yes, it's sad to see a longtime, local gym hand it over to a big corporate gym chain, but without Lifetime moving in, there would currently be no gym here instead of the best gym in Austin. Also, I wouldn't pay attention to the fearmongering that the last reviewer is sowing. Temperatures are checked at the door, masks are required (not everybody is perfect during a hard workout) and the place is being constantly disinfected all day by staff. To date, there have been no contact traces at this gym. Also, it's really creepy for someone to take pictures of members, especially women, without their permission. Lifetime has a strict policy against this to protect member's privacy and this guy will most likely be terminated. read more

I have been a member for 8 months now. There are a few main issues with the gym. The locker situation is by far the most irritating. There are often not enough lockers during busier times. More importantly the lockers are notorious for not working. Even after setting the combo the mechanism of the lock will lock your stuff inside. You will need to have a staff member open it the majority of times. Many members leave their valuables unlocked in the locker to avoid this fiasco. The parking situation is often hairy at busier times understandable given the location I guess. If you like deadlifts this may not be the gym for you. I learned early on not to let weights drop even a little bit. There is a shop below them is the reason. Although I have seen trainers drop barbells their much less daintily than I did but I guess the rule is for members. read more

Mostly downhill since Lifetime took over. Shopping mall lighting and cheap interiors. The bring in standard Lifetime equipment which apparently means 8 chest press machines that do the same thing and no incline or decline. There is a massive TRX station in the middle which is mostly unused. The staff is corporate but very nice. It's functional but has lost the charm. read more

I was a member of Pure Austin for about 10 years. When it changed ownership and became Life Time, I really wanted to like it and keep going there! So I gave it a chance for nearly a year, but at this point, I've switched to another gym and stopped going to Life Time, even though my membership is good for another month. I tried sharing a few complaints and suggestions with the staff. For example, the loud douche-y music in the women's locker room (which is different than what they play in the gym) sounds like pick-up music in a second-rate hotel. When I asked if they could play the same music as in the gym or just turn it down, they said that "corporate" would not allow them to turn down the volume. (Really, LT?!) There were other things, too, like the lesser-quality machines they brought in, and the flood of emails I started to receive (instead of centralizing the Life Time email, they have a separate email list for each location, so if you alternate between two locations you get double the email; and the important emails about closures and such are mingled in with lots of marketing emails). What it boils down to is that this is not the gym culture for me. And I don't think I'm the customer they're after, either. So, I say a bittersweet goodbye to a beautiful space and location, which for a period of time was a great Austin gym. read more

Best gym in Austin, hands down! I have been going to LifeTime downtown Austin since I moved here in 2012, and can't imagine going anywhere else. The location is great, classes are awesome, equipment is top notch, and the staff is the best in the industry, especially Jessica Batt! I personally have witnessed her go above and beyond for myself and other gym members. Her positive attitude and smiler are contagious! You can tell she truly cares about her team members and clients.
