I stopped by and they offered me a free 5 day pass to check out the place. Seemed OK, but on my third day there was a woman coughing up a lung, for a while, in the workout area. She never left the floor, I didn't approach her because I have chronic kidney disease. Not good if I catch anything. DO NOT JOIN THIS GYM!!! Please read the whole review. I have been a member at lifetime apex for over 2 years now, the facilities themselves are nice and the other members are friendly as well. The gym management on the other hand is awful, they are constantly making unnecessary changes so they can justify the member rates being raised frequently. The trainers also take up a ton of space in the free weight areas and always seem to be using multiple machines at once. They recently raised my rate again, which I can no longer justify. The facilities are nowhere near worth $80 a month, which is significantly less than the new member rates. Here is the worst part and what really made me cancel my membership: The other day I was at the gym and a member went into cardiac arrest and his heart stopped beating. Fortunately, another member was able to perform CPR saving his life. What was the gym staff doing during this? NOTHING. They were standing in a crowd around the man on the floor doing absolutely nothing. When a staff member was asked where the AED device was by the other member, they did not know. It was even overheard the gym manager, Alonzo Washington, telling another staff member "Don't worry, this isn't on us." UNBELIEVABLE. Whatever you do don't go near this gym they will charge you overpriced rates, and upon cancellation you are required to give 30 days' notice, so they can charge you for another month, and if you have an urgent medical emergency you can count on the staff to do nothing. read more

I have been going to this gym for several years. I always enjoyed the smaller low-key environment and the members are respectful and friendly. Unfortunately, it has greatly deteriorated over the last year. The limited equipment is constantly breaking down and takes forever to get fixed. What has brought me to write this review is that over the last month the air-conditioning hasn't been working. How can you charge people their full monthly fees but not provide air-conditioning and functioning equipment? This has been brought to the attention of the staff and their response is always that they are working on it. I am tired of paying full monthly fees for services that I am not receiving. AIR-CONDITIONING IN A GYM IS A MINIMUM!!!!! It's also starting to smell really bad. read more

I love Lifetime and this smaller scale gym in Apex is perfect for classes, relaxation and a lower-key atmosphere. Nick was very helpful with our family membership and is always accessible if help with your membership is needed. This gym offers the LT group fitness classes ranging from spinning to Zumba to to their weight training classes that compare to Les Mills' Bodypump. The yoga studio is especially relaxing and welcoming and the soothing voice and classes offered by Naomi will put you in a tranquil meditative state. They offer spinning classes in a small studio and you ride to the beat of the music or the instructors' tabata format. Tameka P., Mariangel and others are high-energy Zumba dancers and make the classes so much fun. Charlton is one of my favorites and I did the personalized small group classes called GTX where you lift weights and do high -intensity intervals on the treadmill. There are plenty of weight machines and cardio equipment on the floor and you don't have to wait to work out. For classes, you reserve your classes in the lifetime app and this guarantees your spot or bike or whatever you reserve. The changing rooms offer plenty of lockers and there is a mini sauna. The facility is always clean and well-maintained. If you want the pool or larger gym experience, you can go to Cary or North Raleigh. This gym also has a fundraiser event for Duke Childrens every November and raise money and awareness for cancer. I thought that Life Time was a trusted/friendly business, but I was wrong. When I first signed up, everything was so easy and they said would help and be flexible. This is not true. To put your account on hold, you must give 30 days notice AND be there in person. To cancel your membership, you need to give 30 days notice AND be there in person. My account was on hold for 3 months (paying $20/month) because I was travelling; this was after I paid full price for a month of not using it because the I had to wait 30 days. While my account was on hold, I went in to cancel my membership. While I wait my 30 days for cancellation, my account goes off hold, and I must pay the full price of the membership. I have wasted A LOT of money at this place. I would not recommend it. read more

Just joined last week after being a member of O2.. The Apex location has been very enjoyable overall. It is stocked with a ton of cardio, free weights, and machines. The club is very clean and well maintained. The overall music and vibe is very good. I have not done any classes or personal training so I can't comment. Clean, lots of equipment. I've only been here a handful of times, but it's never been crowded, which is really nice. The locker rooms have showers, hair dryers, lockers and great space (countertop and mirror-wise) to clean up/get ready. The staff is really nice and accommodating. It's nothing super special- the Lifetime in Cary is super fancy and nice, complete with lap pool and outdoor lap pool/water slide play area, but it also has a bigger price tag. This location gets the job done nicely and affordably. This gym is filthy. You pay over $100 a month for a "health club" that is disgustingly dirty. I'm sure they can afford a cleaning crew to come in! I expect way more from LifeTime. It doesn't look like they've ever cleaned the equipment. I've complained to the front desk, the manager and corporate and nothing ever changes! I gave it two stars because they have a nice selection of equipment but the lack of cleanliness makes this gym less than desirable!! read more

Decent gym. Overall it isn't crowded compared to the Cary location, but has basically everything you need. It is always very stuffy and warm in there, and the water is the water fountains is WARM, thats my biggest complaint... I have to bring 2-3 water bottles because I don't want to have to drink the warm water when I refill my water bottle. I also wish the elliptical had the AC built in like the Cary location. Plus, after they did the renovations, I seem to have a hard time to try to find lower dumbbells (5-8lbs) on the floor. read more

Life Time Fitness = 24 Hour Fitness of the east coast, but more expensive and not open 24 hours. Life Time Fitness is probably the largest, most expensive gym chain in the NC Triangle Area. This establishment is fee happy and loves to charge their members. A great example of this is when I downgraded my all club membership to a one club membership. I was charged a one time $5 fee to downgrade. I've never been charged to downgrade from an all club membership, to a one club membership at any gym (and I've been a member at Gold's, 24 Hour Fitness, Equinox, and Planet Fitness). The gym area itself is very clean. Members are pretty good at wiping down equipment after they use it. Parking in the lot is pretty easy, but it can get a little hectic during rush hour on the weekdays. Also if you are taking yoga, and there is a class next door, be prepared to hear the bass from Zumba or whatever class is going on next door during your savasana. read more

Maintenance work on weight machines, treadmills, water fountains, lockers (broken/missing hooks, broken door hinges locks need replaced), shower fixtures, shower curtains...etc just does NOT get done fast enough. The water fountain in the men's locker room has been broken for years (zero water pressure...what good is it??) Several treadmills were broken for MONTHS before finally being fixed. It is also very HOT in the facility, especially in the summer time. Most likely the AC is broken or you are attempting to save $$ by not setting it cool enough. You know how to raise rates ever year but you don't fix basic things required to keep the place safe, comfortable, and usable. read more

Once again there is a problem with the hot water at the Apex gym. This happened before and it was finally fixed now it has started up again. Today it took almost 5 minutes for the hot water to come on in the shower. Sometimes it's only look warm. Why can't this issue be resolved. It's a great gym, I go almost everyday, but hot water is essential. read more

The staff is great. You're greeted when you walk in. If you're a regular, they often call you by your name before scanning you into the gym. More than sufficient cardio machines and weight equipment, etc. The personal trainers are great! The locker room is clean. There is a Sauna in the ladies locker room. Great value for the price. It is smaller than the Cary location but, as I said it is still a great place to workout. The place is very clean with the exception of a some folks who don't wipe up their sweat when they're done with equipment. The group fitness instructors and workouts are great too!! read more

I only go to this gym because it's the closest to my house & I would have 0 motivation to work out if I had to drive any further. The weight area is always messy. Weights are always scattered. I always have to search for safety clips for the bars & there's never enough safety clips. Machines are often broken & take months to repair or replace. The locker rooms are gross. I don't come here before work because I don't want to shower in there. They often have a towel shortage too. The trainers are aggressive in their sales pitches. Group fitness classes are amazing. today at Lifetime, I went to two different machines and was asked to get off by a man who said he was using them although he was nowhere close to either machine when I sat down. I spoke about it to one of the trainers who work there. He didn't seem to really appreciate my complaint but said yes it was poor gym behavior although he did nothing about it. I expect better for something I am paying for monthly. I use curtesy and respect for others when I am there and I expect the same in return. I believe the people who work there have an obligation to correct someone when their behavior is out of line. But nothing was done. I was very hesitant to move from my gym but a new friend told me she has been a member for over a decade and loves it. I've been a member for 6 months now and I love it. I mostly attend classes (strength or HIIT kind) and sometimes use the equipment. Never got personal trainer hours. The trainers who teach studio classes are FANTASTIC. Here are my complaints - 1. There are no strength or HIIT classes friday evenings. 2. There are NO classes after 1 pm on saturday or sunday. 3. Because evening classes are limited, classes can really fill up. read more

Lifetime bought this gym after Lifestyle bailed on the NC market, so I won't slam the gym with my prior complaints about the old world order. The Yoga classes are great - every one of the teachers is awesome. It's just too bad that an animal died in the ventilation shaft, and the mind/body (yoga) group fitness room smells something awful. My attendance has definitely dropped off as I just can't get over the smell; It's been several months now (today is 1/11/2012), and the stench hasn't lifted. You'd figure they'd hire some professionals to address that issue - it's really really bad. All the cardio equipment has individual TVs, which is a nicer amenity than that offered by the gorgeously appointed LifeTime Fitness facility near Regency in Cary. We had some problems with the day care facility some years ago, where the staff was not being attentive (day care staff was slouching on the bean bag chairs, watching tv, not paying attention), resulted in my kid's shoes being swiped. It was an accident, but you have to wonder - if the day care folks can't keep tabs on personal belongings stored in the cubbys, are they doing a good job taking care of your kids? I do not recommend stashing your kids in day care - they're idiots (the staff I mean, not your kids, unless you're the little twit who swiped my kids shoes - they were like 5 sizes to small for you - did you even try them on before you left? You have horrible parents, and you're a bad kid). When given the opportunity to get access to the Lifetime facility, we jumped at it, and this gym is a now a great standby to get access to more group fitness classes, and cardio equipment, assuming you have time to get to the gym during when they're open. read more

I'm a member of Lifetime in Cary and they bought Lifestyle. I just recently started going to this gym because it's closer to my house. It is much smaller which makes it much easier to get in and out of it. They recently did some remodeling and it looks nice! It doesn't have all the bells and whistles like spa, salon, cafe, swimming pools, saunas but it's a nice gym to get your work out in. They do have childcare and group fitness classes but I've not used either service so I can't comment on those. I also know they just recently started taking LT bucks and offer yoga and team fitness. I'm thinking of trying a team fitness soon! read more

This gym is a fairly good sized building. Pretty nice locker room, well men's side that is. Equipment is in good shape and there are enough that I don't find myself waiting in line to use the machines. I am NOT a fan of the ab machines, not used to the way they machine moves so I don't use them. The group, I think it was a boot camp type thing, was running up and then down the isles., not good if someone is in the zone and steps out in the way. If this hasn't happened already it surely will sometime. The price can't be beat with me and my girl getting the "gold" membership and being able to utilize this and the one over in Cary, plus wherever else this company has gyms...As far as cleanliness, and new/in good repair equipment this place is great, unfortunately only 3 stars for the smallish locker room and not cool class running in the isles. read more

What a scam. After expressing multiple times that I'm a single mother on a very tight budget, my free personal trainer convinced me to pay $$$ for the Active Metabolic Assessment. If you're unfamiliar, this test is super personalized to you, finding your ideal heart rate to burn the most fat and creates a workout specific to you and your body. We did the test, and immediately when I got the custom workout I tried it out and my heart rate was about 20bpm higher than it should be according to the test. This meant the purpose of the test, to find my ideal heart rate to burn the most fat, was flawed. I immediately asked my trainer about it and he admitted that was wrong and that a retest would need to be done. For 3 months now I've been contacting him through email and in person about how I have faulty results and am losing motivation because I paid for something I cannot use. For three months he let it go and brushed it under the rug. They got my money, that's all they care for. I expressed my concern and wanting to cancel my membership, and all he talked about was the money. I emailed the main email for this location and got no response. After 2 more weeks I go in person and cancel. They tell me they won't refund me, they won't help me. I spent so much money I shouldn't have and was scammed. I will never go back and will never recommend them. They only want your money and don't care about the quality of the results. I can't even tell you how many times I reached out about the test and was brushed away like I didn't matter. They even admitted to receiving my email 2 weeks ago and never answering me. You can even see where the trainer admitted the test was faulty. I'm disputing the charges with my bank. read more

I've been using Life Time Fitness as my gym for about a year now. I like the space, the clean bathrooms, and the amount of extras they offer. I meet with Alex as my personal trainer and also take her lifting class (Alpha). It's been the best choice I've made in a long time. All the coaches and trainers I've met with and interacted with are incredibly helpful and most of them seem super genuine in getting you to where you want to be. I think if someone was looking for a gym where they could workout and not be bothered this is the place. Or if you're looking for a gym where someone is always there to help you, this is also the place. read more

This place has had a ton of turnover with respect to general management and that has unfortunately compromised the general upkeep and maintenance of the equipment and facility. Some equipment has sat for months without repair. You ask them to fix the audio and video of the TVs, Bluetooth, etc they don't make an honest effort to do so. Some of this has been going on for 4 months plus. It also seems to be either too hot or too cold in the place an areas of the men's locker room are filthy. I was in the Apex, NC area for 4 days, and needed to get my workout in. I went in expecting to pay $$$ for a guest pass. Not only was the staff helpful and friendly, but they allowed me to work out as a guest FREE OF CHARGE!!! Holy moly isn't that awesome! (high five!!!)... beats the $20 charge at Anytime Fitness I had to pay for ONE day in New Mexico.... lame. The gym isn't the most high-tech and fancy...but it has everything you need to get the job done. Tons of equipment, lots of space, no creepers. NEVER EVER EVER EVER even inquire about pricing. You will receive a phonecall within 15 minutes even if it's a Sunday night at 9pm (which I did!) and emails daily and additional phonecalls every other day trying to get you to sign up. It's harassment that a prospective member can't even get pricing without experiencing this type of behavior. Why on earth would I want to join any place that acts like this? I can't imagine how things are when you try to leave. read more

As a basic gym this place works well. They have a good selection of cardio equipment and workout rooms for spinning and classes. It's clean, functional and getting on equipment is not an issue. The downside is that you should not believe ANYTHING that the on-site membership staff tell you. The reviews of this place that you will find on the web are spot-on - getting through to the central membership office (when wanting to make a change or cancel) is very tough and expect to be dumped into voicemail and disconnected several times (automatically after a 15 min hold), even though I was told this problem has been fixed - no, it has not. Getting a person is tough, because basically it's just one person doing the job. Additionally, the on-site membership staff will say anything to push you to a higher level of membership. I was needing a basic membership, but was spun a lie that I should get the next level up to avoid initiation and admin fees, then call after 2 months to downgrade and there would be no charge or hassles. This is an outright lie. I called up after 2 months of paying the higher fees and still had to pay the admin and initiation fees as a result of the downgrade and was also told that the basic membership required an annual "facilities fee" of $25 that was never disclosed to me. So, don't fall for the lie of, "we like to save you money, so do this..." routine - it WILL cost you more money. Overall, it's a good basic facility if you don't have complicated needs or expectations. Expect the membership staff to try fleecing you and you will not be surprised by their slimy tricks. read more

Love my gym! For the price, all the group fitness classes available are unbelievable. Hasinna the yoga instructor is the best!

My favorite gym. Large, open and airy space. Super clean facility and locker rooms. I never wait for machines. Friendliest staff and trainers. They even know my name. I love that. Makes me feel more at home. Lots of new equipment- especially the treadmills. Touch screen with all the cool bells and whistles. Machines are clean too. The cardio kickboxing classes are amazing. What a fun way to work off some steam. Zumba, Barbell Strength and Cycle are a few other good glasses that I've taken. Great workouts. They have a nice selection of yoga classes and Pilates as well. I started working out with one of the trainers- Tony. I highly recommend trying this. Tony is great. He's helped me make a workout schedule and food plan that addresses my needs and one that I've had solid results with. We're always doing different workouts. Always using different machines- you know- the confusing ones that I'd never try on my own. With Tony's help - and patience- they are not confusing anymore. I have to say this part again, I really think the managers, team and trainers there are super friendly and encouraging. They really make the place more comfortable than other gyms I have tried. (And there have been a lot) Gyms always seem intimidating to me. But not this gym. Lifetime in Apex is different. It's a high end gym with more comfortable/approachable vibe. read more

Lifetime has worst Cancellation policy. You have to sign an agreement with them with two part clause: 30 day and 1 billing cycle whichever expire last. So I wanted to terminate my gym membership on 4th July so I gave them 30 day notice on June 3rd. But was shocked to hear that membership will have to be paid till July 30th because there will have one more billing cycle. Well I have to abide by the policy because I signed it. I don't mind paying it but this is a scam. I should not have to pay for the services I am not going to be using. I agree shame on the company that only cares about how to make fool of people with all the fancy scams and confuse the customer. Also, If you are going to the apex lifetime. the group classes are always crowded during work day evenings so if you are like me who work 8-5 job and try to work out the classes are always full and they less selection of classes than other locations. A colleague of mine goes to another lifetime and is paying $10 less and has many more features than Apex gym. read more

I am used to going to gyms geared towards athletes/serious lifters. No stupid juice bars, silly classes, or other things that don't actually do anything for you just a lot of cold hard iron. While this gym does have plenty of things I find no use for I believe this place is a nice middle ground between someone that is serious about fitness and the casual gym going just trying to get in a little better shape. I usually go in the morning between 9-11 and I have never once had to alter my workout or wait because someone was using something I needed. I wont be able to speak on the classes they offer, their machines or much else besides the free weight area. Overall it is not to bad and if you are into lifting you probably will be able to do almost everything you want to with their selection. Plus at least 80% of the people i have ever seen their are in classes, on the machines or doing cardio so you will have the area mostly to yourself. They have two smith machines, two squat racks, incline and decline bench, military/overhead press, I believe three flat benches and several adjustable benches for various workouts. They have a good bit of weight in plates but it would only take a handful of pretty strong guys to put a hurting on them. I know when I am maxing deadlift I have to find plates from a few areas. They have a couple sets of dumbells but only up into the low 100's. I would like to see a whole lot more areas to do pullups, there is only one place on the cable machine. It is too easy to put real pullup bars on any wall. Overall it is not too bad, I am able to get a good workout in rarely finding myself wishing I could have done something they didn't have for me and the amount of eye candy in there makes it a decent gym to go to. read more

Found out that they charge for that magazine. Been paying for two mag's to the same address for 2.5 years. Ridiculous, I never agreed to this magazine. After a 45 minute conversation with corporate they refunded 1 year for one account and that "met me half way". Yeah right more like 25% of they way.
