This one is not a fun one to write. So my father was having lunch at Liebman's Yonkers on February 11th, after my recommendation to go there based on my great experiences with the original location in the Bronx. He and his friend both enjoyed the food (although he made sure to mention that it wasn't nearly as good as Katz's, which I completely agree with). He thought that the restaurant itself was clean and nice enough. But then the fun part happened. He tried to tip 20% on his lunch bill, asking the waiter to round to the total from the $50 check to $60 total The waiter decided that meant adding a $60 TIP to the order and running the credit card at $110 for their lunch. Simple mistake, maybe. We apparently will never know, because Liebman's has never called back after two different attempts to speak with management to rectify the situation. We were told that there was no manager there twice, but assured that we would receive a call back shortly. Nothing, apparently. Is Liebman's an establishment that targets the elderly and figures that they can get away with it because sometimes people don't look at what they're signing. Who knows? Not me, because no-one from Liebman's decided that it was important to return multiple calls to figure that out. So, IF you go to this place, please check your bill and then check it again, because once you leave the restaurant, they seem to have no desire to explain why they charged you a 120% tip (or even attempt to keep you as a customer) Bonus fact: I waited three weeks to post this to give them every chance to do the right thing and have a manager reply. read more

After reading many of the reviews I decided to branch out and try this new location. Bad decision!!' First of all we couldn't find it because it's tucked away in the corner or a small shopping plaza. Secondly, the sandwiches are much smaller than the one in Riverdale. Thirdly, my pastrami was hard, dry and tasted like leather. Lastly, my half sour pickles tasted off. The food and service were excellent. The soups and coleslaw were all excellent. The flavor of both the corned beef and the pastrami were delicious and probably seasoned. It is a typical delicatessen so one does not necessarily go there for ambiance. There is sufficient seating for 25-30 people, in the dining room. Not too fatty, but just a little to savor along with the generally lean meat. I went in hungry, and was able to eat a half along with fries as a side. I took the other half home. So happy to have this restaurant not too far from me. You can order at the counter for takeout but they also have a small dine in area on the other side of the restaurant. My sister - we decided to dine in instead of doing takeout. ordered sandwiches (pastrami, brisket) and fries to share. They come with pickles and Cole slaw and everything was absolutely delicious. The pastrami was lean, the brisket was delightful - I had it on a roll which was so soft, the steak fries were also good. You get a good amount of meat on the sandwiches and of course they have the deli mustard as well. I even took home an order of chopped chicken liver which was good as well. After my sons visit with his doctor, we headed to the newly opened long anticipated Liebman's Deli in Ardsley. As we walked in we were told to seat ourselves. We found an empty table by the window. This was mid afternoon. so there were a few empty tables The setup is unusual, the deli counter & service are in the main entrance space while the dinning area is in completely separate space. They are connected in the back with a passage, it's basically U shaped. Both spaces are bright, clean & inviting. The dinning area has some interesting artwork. After a long review of the menu we ordered pastrami/roast beef combo sandwich and pastrami/tongue combo sandwich. After a few minutes out came the slaw & pickles followed shortly with the sandwiches - huge. Oh we woofed them down, actually I only finished half of mine. First visit to the Ardsley location. Storefront looks great. Entrance with counter to the left. We were seated in the dining room to the right. Beautifully decorated. Bright and clean. We split a pastrami sandwich on rye. We also had a round and square knish. Pastrami was delicious. So were the knishes. Fresh mustard on the table came in handy. Ordered via phone, which we had to do because the online ordering menu (both on their own website and on common food delivery service websites/apps) does not include the children's menu (which we've mentioned each of the several times we've been there, including at least once to someone who said they were the owner/manager). When we got there to pick the food up (no parking available), they had made only 2 of the 3 things we ordered. They claimed repeatedly we only ordered those 2 things instead of admitting they made a mistake and didn't write the third one down. We know what we ordered, and they also got the name on our order wrong, indicating they don't carefully listen to customers and what's being ordered, nor record it accurately. When we mentioned about the online menu not including the children's menu, they claimed to not be aware of it, which indicates they neither look at their own website nor listen to the people who repeatedly tell them about this issue (and it's highly unlikely we're the only people with children who have had this issue and mentioned it). That they don't listen is also evidenced by the fact that, after we ordered specifically for pickup, they called back (and not even to the phone number we told them to call) to ask our address for delivery. In addition, we ordered the beef bacon burger cooked rare, and it was actually cooked medium to medium well; this is an issue we've had several times before. We went there because we liked having a kosher deli in the area, but after this experience we won't be going again. read more

The long-standing Liebman's in The BX has expanded to none other than Westchester. I could've gone to a kosher deli about 2 mins. away from me- but when my friend Cam E. visited Liebman's on Ashford Ave in Addyman Sq. in Ardsley, I wanted in too. Whatever this place was before Liebman's, the folks here must've given this space a significant facelift. You could just tell. In true city-'industrial' style though, Liebman's is hooked up with white subway tiles and a stainless steel ceiling pipe with a W.235th St sign reminding you of their iconic Bronx spot. This makes for a nice ménage à trois. To soften the industrial feel, mini white hexagon floor tiles have been used. Right off the bat, I ordered a Smoked Salmon sandwich ($19) with a sliver of cream cheese the way I always take it, a pastrami sandwich($22) for hubs since he was working from home, a chocolate egg cream($7) (would've loved a vanilla egg cr. instead), a pack of black and white cookies($7) and 2 chocolate rugelach pieces ($2.24) sold by the pound. The smoked salmon is nice and the bagel is something these folks aren't gonna play around with: it was pillowy- with a wonderful bite and was toasted for me- without me even letting them know I wanted it that way. Thank you. Hubs noticed at home that his pastrami sandwich had an open-face feel to it and he wondered if this is how they do. But then again, the pastrami sandwich photos on Yelp all have TWO slices of bread.¯\_(ツ)_/¯. Liebman's has a shining selection of veggies, knishes and a plethora of other kosher staples. Such an incredible Pastrami Reuben sandwich - oozing with flavor and dressing and freshness. Pickles great. Their rye bread is so fluffy and not too rye-tasting. The matzoh ball soup was the only three-star thing we had, as the matzoh balls didn't have a ton of flavor. When we awoke this morning to freezing wind-chill temps in the forecast, Liebman's Matzo Ball soup was on our minds. We made our way to the new location in Ardsley. There was a wee bit of a line at around 12 noonish that moved fast and with plenty of smiles. Well, the matzo ball soup hit the spote perfectly ! I am so glad Liebman's is open here. I loved my food, the service was friendly and fast, and the restaurant section is great, a wonderful reminder of simpler times. Matzo ball soup was delicious, not very salty, which is a problem at a lot of places. Enough sodium to kill a pony. Not here. Flavorful but not loaded with salt. I loved my corned beef and pastrami combo. Fries were thick and crispy. Pickles fresh. Folks, it's kosher. The food is going to cost more because of that. This is not your corner deli. This is a kosher deli and your meat is going to be of a higher quality. Think Pastrami Queen or 2nd Ave Deli. Support these delis, not many of them left. I'm happy Liebman's has expanded. A Liebman's pastrami sandwich is usually an extraordinary eating experience. Today, though I was very disappointed. The pastrami did not seem "real". It seemed to me to be like the quasi-meat at Arby's (I only ate at Arby's once, 50 years ago). I hope Liebman's is not experimenting or changing butchers. read more

When rating a New York deli, there is really only one thing that matters - the pastrami! Pastrami is an art. Each one has its own unique spice blend which makes eating pastrami exciting each time. I have tried pastrami all over the country. New York/New Jersey is still the best geographic region for pastrami. Liebman's is in the top 5 of pastramis in both the region and the country. It is really hard to compare the greats, but there are only a few greats. This is one of the greats. I asked for my pastrami with medium fat. I must say this was a great experience we were welcomed and seated. Our waiter Paul was above and beyond. He was so personable and professional. The food was excellent. The waitress was quick and smart. I told her that she should take the Cole slaw before I got near it so that it could be served to someone who would eat it. She asked which pickles I preferred and brought a generous helping of those. I hesitated when I saw the $25 price but rationalized that I had worked very, very hard that morning and this would be my gift to myself. Unfortunately it was a bad choice. We took out for dinner - we have gotten food from the Riverdale restaurant previously and enjoyed it, so were excited about the new one closer to home . Disappointing meal , dry corned beef, matzoh ball soup had a plastic taste , one blintz was dry and burnt on the bottom. Clean and orderly with courteous, attentive staff. My order was promptly taken with no issues. I had ordered a beef rogue sandwich with Red Hot Cherry pepper mayo. I sat at a countertop situated across from where they cut and prep your order. Sandwich arrived in less than 5 minutes of ordering. It's been a while since I treated myself to a meal without bothering to check the price, but with my birthday coming up, and having had only an okay visit to another Jewish Deli in the county recently, as well as bad experiences in midtown Manhattan over the summer, I decided, after looking at the reviews and menu, to try Liebman's. Even tohugh it was a saturday, with the resulting ****** bus service I should have expected on my trip home. Thankfully, this visit was not a disappointment at all. Upon arriving, I was seated within a minute, and presented with a menu (though I'd known in advance what I wanted to order), and having seen the hot chicken soup behind the counter as I came in, just threw caution to the wind, and ordered without regad to price. So I started my meal with their chicken noodle soup and a cup of tea. The soup was execellent - a very nice broth, not overly salty, but definitely the right amount so it tasted like what you want from a chicken soup broth. Big chucks of chicken, big chucks of vegies, and long, very thin noodles. Anyone who's used to someyhing like Campbell's or Progresso canned soups will immediately try this and be amazed at how much better fresh soup is. It's not cheap, but the result is not even close. It's so much better than canned it's not funny. And if you're cooking for sevral people, or if you're not feeling well, it's actually something you can come pretty close to if you just asseemble similar ingredients at home. Your homemade soup might be different than this, but if you like a really good soup, this is one you can eat out and be confident it'll measure up to a good homemade soup. My main course was brisket and latkes. Finding a good version of this has been a minor quest, as findin good latkes that are close enough to my mom's homemade latkes has also been a minor quest, and finding this place, I don't have to look anymore. This brisket is tender, sliced very thin, and served with a ot gracy that it does need if you want the bisket hot. (That's my only knock on the brisket - it wasn't temp hot without the gravy. But with the gravy, it was hot, and yummy.) The latkes were very much an equal partner to the brisket on this plate for me, and they were excellent. I became aware of how much better my mom's latkes were compared to many others at a Hebrew school Hanukkah dinner once, when the parents were asked to bring latkes, and many did, but my mom's latkes were gone - utterly demolished - by the attendees in the first go around. Plenty of other latkes were still there for people wanting seconds, but non my mom's. They were GONE. With good reason. Pan fried on both sides, moist and flavor filled insde, my mom made amazing latkes. Liebman's are not my mom's but they're close enough that I'm not going to complain. There's a lot of mediocre latkes out there. These are great latkes. Are they the best ever? No. Those are stil my mom's. But these rank up there as a good contender. So, not including tip, my meal cost almost $50. But as a treat for myself - totally worth it. read more

Service was friendly but forgetful but the place has just opened so they will get better. Matzoh ball soup and kasha varniskes were tasty but not hot- just warm. Pastrami and corned beef were excellent. The gefilte fish was awful- I took one bite and put down my fork; the taste appearance and texture were off (and we are familiar with the excellent version of this dish at the Bronx location- there were ZERO similarities) Staff didn't ask if there was a problem and we didn't want to complain. The tables, the walls, everything in here is spotless. The waitress(Jodi) we got gave beyond good service!!!! My wife and I were splitting everything and she just automatically brought everything out on two plates and was here literally every time you needed something you never went more than 10 seconds after thinking of what you needed that she was there to get it for you. As for the food, the matzo ball soup was perfectly seasoned, and the pastrami was very moist and very flavorful. The circle knish was gigantic, but that really wasn't for us. It was so nice within two minutes of sitting at the table, we had drinks and a complementary dish with two bowls of coleslaw and pickles. My wife and I will be here once a month from now on. Also, the music they play, which I usually hate at restaurants or dining facilities was at the perfect volume and we're playing songs from the 70s and you can actually tell the speaker system in this place cost a few dollars because the clarity of the music you don't often hear music that pure sounding. read more
