Food is very simple and excellent. Whenever I go I HAVE to have the thin-crust pizza and a sliced-steak! Yum. Downsides are that it's very dark and needs some updating and they only take cash. Very limited menu resulted in seafood platter (fair), spaghetti w meat sauce (overcooked and generally horrible), and chicken soup (on pay with campbell's) Im all for budget dining, particularly with kids, but I dont like paying for food I can prepare better at home. Love this nostalgic place, looks like it hasn't changed since the 1950s. Great thin crust pizza. The staff is friendly and proud of their restaurant and it shows. Don't be shy chat them up they are nice people. I told them it was my first time and ordered a pie to go the waitress talked me into staying because the pizza is best that way. I took her advise and I'm glad I did. She then told the other staff i was a newbie and they all checked in to welcome me and to be sure I enjoyed my pie and also provided some entertainment. Been a customer for many years. Went there for the first time under the new management (New Years Eve) place was cleaned up. Service was absolutely horrible. After being seated by the hostess we waited 10 minutes and no one acknowledged us. My husband got up and had to ask for a waitress to come to our table. From the time we got there we had several different waitresses and a gentleman who I think was the manager come to our table to serve. They were so disorganized no one knew what the other had done. The waitress literally put a shrimp cocktail at the edge of the table as she walked by never even making eye contact with us. A different waitress came by and dropped a pizza on our table in the same manner leaving it at the end of the table and Not making contact. When the steak was served we had asked for knives, when my salad was served I had to ask for dressing, forget about getting refills on our drinks. The service was so bad the people at the table across from us commented to us how awful it was. And it wasn't even that busy since we got there when they pretty much first opened for the evening. Food was OK but not great. I think the pizza was about the same but steak was not good, the grilled chicken was tough like it had been frozen. Won't go back. The food here is good, but the service is terrible. We waited an hour to be seated (a party of 8) because they insisted on waiting to seat us until another large party left. The other party wanted to stay and chat with one another, so even when we requested to just be split up and sit four and four - they wouldn't do it. The service was also really bad. We asked for water for the table, and received three glasses and a carafe. We asked a second time and received two more glasses and another carafe. We were 8 people. Everything took a really long time to get out, even the check - which is ridiculous because I'm sure the waitress just wanted us gone. The pizza is good, though. Not your average pizza joint and bar, the Lido is awesome. They have a selection of thin crust pizzas, steaks, etc, but the gem on the menu is the sliced steak-- Paper thin steak served over toast points and drowned in butter, what's not to love? And if that's not enough try the double sliced steak portion with the fries well done. The pizza is very good as well, on weekends you might have to wait for one. A good hint is to order the pizza when you sit down as an appitizer for the table. read more

Sad to say, but close to the absolute worst service I've ever had. The experience ruined my moms birthday. We had to wait almost thirty minutes to order and we were the first ones there at open. I had to get up and go to the bar to refill my own drink because the waitress was too busy chit chatting and forgot. Our pizza was served uncut. This was always a favorite of my husband & I. He grew up in Hackensack & whenever we came into town we would stop in. We loved the chicken parmigiana & the sliced steak. When we saw it was to be remodeled we had high hopes for the best of both worlds. We went here Wednesday night fully expecting the same only better. We were very disappointed. Yes, the atmosphere was the same. A few updates, but pretty much the same. Sadly the food was no where near as good. The chicken parmigiana was over cooked & dry. The sliced steak was really only shaved steak, & had no flavor. The spaghetti was over cooked & soggy with hardly any sauce on it. The French fries were soggy & tasteless. Very disappointing! Okay...so I've been going to the Lido since I think I was a little boy....I couldn't wait to go and see what was different..... We went last night.....(Monday 7/15)....we arrived about 5:30...keeping in mind that they open at 5 PM. Upon entering there was a small crowd. The hostess took our name and said there might be a short wait. Upon looking inside I noticed at least 4 tables empty and not being used. The crowd got bigger, however and people were leaving that had already eaten...yet they weren't sitting anyone,which was kind of strange. We finally got seated. The place hasn't changed very much. They did however do a big time cleaning. The floor is NOT new, just was cleaned. The ceiling was not new, just cleaned, the walls and photos weren't new, just cleaned, the napkins dispensers were the same as before, the tables were not new, just cleaned, the booths have been re-done with new vinyl covering. The bathrooms have been completely redone...the air conditioning was great..no complaints there. The food: My steak sandwich came out cold, not warm, but cold,...the person I was with ordered chicken parm which came out cold, however the plate was extremely hot....there was no bread...we were told that they ran out? (which in itself was very strange)...other reviews say the same thing from last week. The now do except credit cards. I find it odd that the pay phone in the outer lobby which hasn't worked in 20 years is still there? The place is much brighter and more lit up, and you can now sit at the bar and eat. The menu is pretty much the same...some items are a few dollars more....which I imagine makeup for the credit card fees....I didn't see any of the old waitstaff..... This is the dirtiest and most unkempt pizza place I have ever been to. Didn't even want to try to the pizza after the waitress slide the pie on to the dish that had a thick layer of dust on it. Most of the place is falling apart and held together by duct tape. Our booth was mostly just us sitting on duct tape. The light on our table didnt function and was just duct taped into place. It smelled bad in there. The waitressing staff seemed unfazed and over working there, and was sitting around eating and drinking stuff from dunkin donuts. We were seated by the area I assume they get the drinks and we could hear how even they wouldn't want to really drink from the cups. Disgusting. Totally unprofessional. It is like getting pizza in a dirty alley way. However, at least in the alley way you would get less dust on the food. read more

So myself and all my family and friends have been going to Lido's for many years. I have been there a few times since it has been redone. Let's start with the specialty steak, one of my favorites on their menu. The last two times I ordered it, I asked for medium rare and got well done. Last night I ordered rare figuring I would get at least medium and it was well done again. Someone needs to learn how to cook steaks. Pizza is good, no complaints. Service is okay. Last night, we had a female young waitress with no personality. No greeting when she came over the first time and no name given. We found out when leaving her name was Jenna from another waitress. My sister was not happy to find out her veal parmigiana wasn't real veal cutlets but was patties so they took it back and said they were going to take it off the bill. We got the bill and the waitress did not give my sister a chance to look at it till after she charged her credit card. They did not remove her entree from the bill. The owner/manager came over and said he would fix it. He came back with a handwritten adjustment on her receipt but no printed receipt showing it being deducted from the bill. Then my cousin put a $20 bill on the table and asked me to keep an eye on it till she came back from the bathroom. The waitress Jenna came along and grabbed the $20 off the table, thanked us for the tip and ran into the kitchen before I could say anything. My cousin asked where the $20 was and I told her. We all question why any waitress would take money off the table before the guests left not knowing for sure it was a tip? Well we still have no answer to that question. So, from now on it will probably be just pizza and beer because they cannot handle anything more if we do come back! read more

Lido is very hit and miss. If you're a fan of thin crust pizza as much as I am, then you know you're always on the hunt for the best one around. Recently I had a conversation with someone about how good the pizza was the last time we went there, so I was looking forward to go back again. However when I went back again we were disappointed. The crust was not cooked enough and the flavor was just off. I haven't had much else on the menu other than their salad. The price of their salad is very cheap, around $2.00, but you will literally get a bowl with some chopped up Iceberg lettuce, nothing else. I always found it funny that if you ordered Italian dressing they'll throw an olive in there -- as if the olive is no good with other dressings? Anyway I digress. Will I go back to Lido? So I have been coming to Lido's since I was 7 years old. I am now 51 and have been bringing my own family there for years. A few years ago, when going on a weekend, I experienced some change in the pizza and when I asked the waitress, she said it was the Sunday guy - it was thicker, more well-done and had too much sauce. Lido's is known for a particular taste and ultra-thin crust to their pizza. After the renovations recently, we were so excited to be able to go back - because we missed our almost monthly trip for dinner. We found the renovations so strange (as they kept even the worst features), but I am not here to write about that, because atmosphere was never the Lido way. The first dinner back, the pizza tasted really weird - not the same and was thick and burnt on the crust edge. Also, it took 1 hr. to get 1 pie on a Sat. night at 9:30 pm. They were so backed up and couldn't keep up. They were only open for 2 weeks and we thought this was very strange as they has so much additional staff - waitresses and bus boys. Way many more than they ever had. We went back last night, a Tuesday, and gave it another chance. The wait wasn't long, the staff awesome, but the food was terrible. I brought my mom, 89 yrs. old, who loved the sliced steak. She said it was not the same. The pizza was thick, the cheese different and the sauce was aweful! We also had the veal patty parm., which is a staple for our family. The sauce was so salty, my 14 year-old who devours everything always said he wouldn't take it home and said the veal was "weird". It is just not the same. For owners to go out of the way to clean old partitions and old lampshades and fixtures to keep Lido like it was, what have they done to the recipes? The old time basic salads with "too much" red-wine vinegar was not the same. The dressing comes on the side in a cup and was not the same either. Everything people liked about the food is completely different. Unfortunately, I am very, very sad to say...my favorite pizza place, we will not be coming back after three generations who loved you! Lido's.. if you wanna keep, you go to Lido's. It's been there forever and is a staple for a lot of people in Bergen county. I only gave it three stars because I just couldn't give it four. Food is good...this is my favorite thin crust pizza spot. However service is terrible and I'll given a few examples: Waitresses are rude and can't seem to be bothered. They've literally tossed stuff on our table. One time the table next to us asked for grated cheese and they took it off our table, while we were in the middle of eating, and gave it to them. The other table felt so bad but obviously it wasn't their fault. Service is super slow so expect to be there for a while. If you go when they first open and then place an order, they may tell you it's gonna take extra time as they "just opened". If it weren't for the good food and good prices, we wouldn't return at all. However there are times we decide to pass on heading over there if we're not in the mood to deal with unpleasant waitresses or long waits. read more

My grandparents been going here since they were teenagers, my dads been going here for 40 something years and it was amazing and our favorite restaurant for all these years. Literally would recommend to every single person. Well then it changed. They got a new owner and it completely went to shit. They RE-did the inside to make it look the same and added a bad, which is fine. But it really says something about how the old staff was there for sooo many years, get a new owner and all young working kids. Not good service. Went a few months ago and my steak was not edible. It was so undercooked and raw so we sent it back. Came back not even 2 months later, still raw. But the pizza was great.... Gave it another shot the other day and the soda was flat, got our steak (way less meat than they used to give) while we were just starting our salad for appetizer. The pizza took 30+ minutes after we finished the steak and came out burnt to the crisp we decided to just leave and not even eat the pizza. Grew up around here but only had my first pie last year. They claim to be the best pizza in NJ, which to anyone local sounds crazy. It's hard to get bad pie in north Jersey (apart from the national chains, naturally), but this may just be the best. I don't know what they put in it, but it's difficult to stop eating. The question is just how they get their crust so thin, besides that it's airborne of course. The rest of the food I've had there is good Italian, even by local standards, in a surprisingly creative menu. And it's very reasonably priced. Gripes: no parking to speak of, cash only, very dated decor, kinda dark, smallish / cramped, not quiet, no reservations, no delivery and no take out at all on weekends (they're too busy, they say). That's when we just go in to eat and take another pie home. Service is flawed though friendly. Pro's: really good thin crust pizza, good open-faced sliced steak sandwiches and some very decent crinkle cut French fries, all of which come at a very reasonable price Con's: pretty much everything else We've been coming here since the late 80's and I am quite sure they are still using the very same steak knives now that they did back then. Seriously....they barely cut and the once wooden handles now look gray and waterlogged from decades inside a dishwasher. Do yourself a favor and don't look at or think about them. Better yet, if you gross out easily, bring along your own steak knife. Same goes for the rest of the surroundings...just avert your eyes. Same also goes for the rest of the food. Flavorful sauce, good balance of cheese, and a very crispy thin slice - bar style. This is the type of "no fuss" place that you go to when you want amazing food but don't feel like looking at a complicated and ever changing menu. I don't even need one when we go! I have been coming here since I was a little boy. My grandfather actually worked here when I was younger and would take me with him. This place hold special memories for me. That being said, I had the worst experience EVER my last visit. The older waitresses aren't the nicest really but they do their jobs. The waitress we had was younger and I hadn't seen her before. She was HORRIBLE. Took forever to take our order. Then after we put in our order, it didn'tget better. First, the table next to us were seated after and they got their appetizers before us. You can tell they were her friends, she kept going over to them and chatting. Then our main meals come out at the same time as our appetizers. When I asked her why she didn't bring them out earlier, she just sucked her teeth. I was furious after that and it completely messed up my meal with family. I still left her the usual 20% tip because I know how much tips matter but I really didn't want to do it. I hate that her lack of service will probably keep me away for awhile.
