Does LIDL falsely advertise sale items? Went to both in the Western Branch area only to be told that the item was never received. LIDL customer service responded to my query that I can check inventory so I did. Both stores show one - one of a sale item - yet managers at both stores stated that none were received. LIDL shouldn't put sales items in print and on line if, in fact, none are in inventory. Sale started 9 October so no excuse. read more

Oh my goodness this store opened last Thursday... finally I'm able to stop by today! I visited the store around 6:30 p.m. and spent approximately an hour just browsing and chatting with some of the employees here. Well I found out that since the grand opening ( which was last Thursday) they were giving out free tote bags and today they're all out! I was told they were passing them out at the entrance... but I didn't recieve one upon entering. Then I was told to fill out a survey and I'd recieve one... or download the app... but um... I still left without a tote. But I understand they have a new store opening this Thursday in Norfolk so hopefully I'll be able to attend that grand opening... 8 a.m. and I'll recieve a couple of tote bags. Nevertheless, the store was amazing and I love it! Some great prices and the produce appeared fresh and plentiful. I was a little disappointed because I wanted to try a cheap wine and preferably Moscato but I saw the section where the Moscato was located ...completely empty! I met Miss Crystal and she was giving out samples of a white wine and two dry red wines but I didn't want those. I spoke of the Moscato she happened to have a bottle in the cut (hiding) that was almost gone so I guess they must have gave that as a sample earlier but when they sold out they stop giving samples of it. But she poured me a sample... it's a sparkling Moscato that's a little under $3. I see how it sold so well... it's tasty! They sold out today and yesterday. I almost had a bottle because I saw an unopened bottle stashed... but evidently another customer wanted a bottle and inquired first but I saw the hidden bottle... ugh... anyway I digress. I was informed by another employee Miss Anita that they should have some tomorrow. A delivery truck comes tonight so I'm crossing my fingers that cases of Moscato are available. So it's time to checkout... I entered Aletha's line and she was most helpful and forthcoming on Lidl happenings. She told me about the $0.06 paper bags that were free today and will be free until tomorrow. She also advised they do not accept manufacturer coupons but downloading their app you can gladly use their coupons and those are the only coupons they accept. I also had an older gentlemen bag my groceries and I believe he jokingly mentioned (but may have been serious) he was free until Sunday too. And I understood that comment as he's just there bagging groceries this weekend only but going forward you'll need to bag your own groceries. There's a Fresh Bakery... famous name brand items and off brand and perhaps unheard of brands here too. There's plenty of parking and plenty of shopping carts as well you don't have to pay anything for the shopping carts I was expecting to pay a quarter or something but the shopping carts are free and are available in three different sizes. The employees were willing to assist and were busy at work while people were steadily coming in and out. The lines weren't long at all I guess because of the excitement a lot of people were shopping and browsing but at least five registers were open. I believe this chain originated in Europe so items here you probably will not see in other groceries. My one great find... bacon that didn't contain sugar in its ingredients. They were out of organic salad mix ...bummer. I wanted bagged lemons but I didn't see any or a place for them. But they have bagged limes. The store definitely seems to be the buzz around town since it's been forever coming but now the wait is over! I'd recommend you browse and see if you love it or like it here. This store is located off the busy Portsmouth Blvd. and stores such as: Ross, Walmart, Aldi, Food Lion and more are within walking distance of this location and it's five minutes from I664. Lidl's is a great little place with a good variety of merchandise and groceries. They are however limited in what they offer compared to the larger grocery chains, but is a great place to go when you need to pick up a few items. They have cute plants up front and general merchandise towards the back. Stop by if you've never been in one. read more

I am a fan. I have been to this location five times, When it first opened they gave out samples of food so that would efftect my opinion as I type a review. (I am laughing). This store is super clean, the staff is attentive but not pushy, and it is organized very well. I loved the selection of fresh baked breads. I played with the bread slicing and bagging machine at least three times. Fun! I purchased way too much bread that day. This is not the type of store I would go to complete my monthly shopping for food. Their selections are limited in the meat, frozen food and household items. The selections are decent and not overpriced but they do have the brand names that I am used to selecting for my home. Lidl is more useful to my household than Aldi but not as efficient as Food Lion or Kroger for one-stop shopping. Lidl is going to be my fringe shopping grocery store. If I need a bottle of decent wine, great cheese, delicious bread to impress my girlfriends the Lidl is my go-to store. It is like a Fresh Market or Trader's Joe, I will go there to avoid lines in my real grocery store or when I want to have something to add to a dinner conversation like "I got this wine from Lidl's it is only 6 dollars a bottle but it taste great, and the cheese and bread. Yup I love it in there." Mature adults over 40 seem at always be the majority when I come in to shop. It may be the time of day I come in but I love the vibe. The younger people who come to Lidl's seem to be be foodies or old souls. They always make conversation and love to let me in on cool and fadish food to eat as I stare with wonderment at the frozen organic single-serve foods. My work lunch game is definitely on Fleek (did I say that correctly - HaHa). I recommend that every one try Lidl's for easy in and easy out grocery shopping. I recommend it for last minute gift shopping.too. The middle aisles are filled with cool gadgets, clothing, and neat organizational stuff that make great gifts. Enjoy. Lidl is a unique newer grocery store in the region & boy am I happy they showed up!! Don't get me wrong, I really like Aldi & what they provide, but Lidl offers fresh baked goods & just feels like a more complete grocery store. They're not on the same level as a Kroger Marketplace, but their customer service is right on par with the big boys! They offer a crazy return policy for their Lidl branded items that if you don't love it you can bring it back, get a refund AND get a comparable item for free!?!? That's just crazy, but I am NOT complaining! I actually returned something that they forgot to scan when I checked out on my very first visit & they still let me exchange it! I turned down the cash refund since it wasn't even on my receipt, but still, that's a very unique policy. They have a lot of freshly baked items from donuts & cookies to mini quiches & cheesy focaccia bread (practically a personal pizza) all for very low prices. I compare their prices regularly & they are ahead of the rest on nearly everything. I'm impressed with how clean & open the floor plan is. I'm usually in & out of there in under 20 minutes after lingering by their miscellaneous chocolate section hahaha If you haven't been, it's BYOB (Bring Your Own Bag), totally worth it! read more

I'm honestly hanging between 3 and 4 stars for now: I finally had a chance to come to Lidl after being out of the area for quite some time. I heard good things about Lidl. So I strolled in and immediately realized that I don't have to dig through my purse to search for a quarter that I may or may not have for the cart. To me, that's a plus. The store is very open, very bright and immediately noticeably very clean. The layout in the immediate vicinity of the store is very easy to navigate and the produce appeared fresh. Towards the back of the store, although the layout appears simple, to me it is a bit unorganized. I guess after a few times of shopping there I would be able to know where to go to get a certain item, but being a first time shopper I experienced a little difficulty trying to find the items on my list. Another thing I noticed are the prices. They are not as low as Aldi's and in my opinion for SOME things seemed to be on par with Kroger's pricing. Other things were a steal--1 dozen eggs for 39 cents! YES 39 CENTS! I grabbed a few in anticipation for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday. I got a package of fresh salmon for around $7.00 which to me is a good deal. One thing I noticed is that the employees are very friendly and go out of their way to help the customer. For example, one guy was obviously busy putting things away on the shelf but stopped to ask a few customers if they needed any assistance in finding what they were looking for. When I got up to the register, it hit me that I needed bags which I find midly annoying but it is what it is. Its on me to remember to grab my reusable bags before I make a trip here. Overall, this is a very nice store. It won't be my go to, or even my #2 store, however if I have free time and want to check out more of their selection I'll definitely stop by. I'll treat it like Trader Joes--going once in a blue moon to see what selections they may have. read more

I'm in love with Lidl. I shop here whenever I stay with my parents and it never ceases to amaze me when I walk out of there with two full bags of groceries and two gallons of milk for $40. Seriously, you really can't beat the prices on the staples here. Their produce is excellent, and I can always score deals in cheese and meat and, well everything really. If you're an outside lane shopper (produce, dairy and protein), you can really save a lot here. Inside lane shoppers should be advised that apart from some canned staples, off-brand cereals and yummy chocolates, this place will likely come up a little short. It does leave a lot to be desired when you really want that one thing. I highly recommend scarfing up the deals when you find them because on more than one occasion, I found a product I really loved and returned to stock up only to find that the product was a seasonal or a one-off kind of thing. That can be very disappointing and frustrating. They stock a good selection of wine and beer, but that can be hit or miss as well. I recently purchased two bottles of wine with the exact same label and one was decent and the other was corked and awful. That said, decent bottles are not difficult to come by here! read more

Lidl has been my go to supermarket of choice since I discovered it. I like the fact that I know I am getting the best deal without worrying about coupons and specials. Even with the lower prices the quality is just as good or better than other supermarkets. These are bottom barrel prices. Now for people that absolutely have to have name brand items this is not the place for you. The majority of items they carry are Lidl brand. But the Lidl brand is high quality unlike other "store brand items" I drive past 3 other supermarkets to get here but Lidl is worth the drive. My son loves the fresh baked cookies and donuts when you walk in which are always 55 cents. There is also fresh bread to purchase. The wine and beer deals are amazing as well. They have their own version of popular beers which are cheaper and sometimes on sale. A 6 pack of their version of blue moon is often on sale for $3.50. Cant beat that. The store is always clean and neat. Not many workers walking around but you can find someone if you need assistance I assume. Store isnt that large to need much assistance. Usually enough registers open. I like the fact they encourage the re-using of bags by charging a small fee for bags. One cool think that they do is they give away items that are close to expiration instead of tossing them. I was able to rack up one day on things that were expiring within 6 months. read more

Today I was at checkout #6 around 11:30 am and I had the rudest cashier. she absolutely ignored me when I asked her a question 3 times. She was mad cause I tied the bag that contained fresh ital parsley. i thought it was a specific price so why the attitude? I love Lidl!!! Their prices are hard to beat, the bakery is great and I find the selection perfectly adequate. Lidl is my "Go to Store" ar LEAST once a week, very often I'm in there 2 or 3 times a week:-) They also carry a lot of other "interesting" items, from clothes to tools, toys, cookware, etc. I've bought bed linens, appliances, jeans, tools, etc... You just never know what kind of "Lidl Surprises" you might find. My kind of store! You will definetly save at least 30% off of your usual grocery bill!! LIDL FTW! Let me start with my experience with their customer service and quality control. I went there for the first time maybe a couple of weeks ago and I was in shock. The place is pristine, clean, well organized, and HUGE. I absolutely love their options. I picked up a box of frozen corn dogs because of course my 5 year old loves those. When we ate them there was a plastic casing around the hot dog. Shocked and grossed out, I immediately called customer service. The woman I spoke to was LOVELY. She immediately apologized, ensured my money back (which I wasn't worried about because the prices on everything there is amazing, but I'll divulge about that later), and collected a bunch of information about my purchase, the hot dog, and what I saw. I sent emails of the pictures of what happened and the product off to quality control and... She also sent the info off to quality control who got back to me the NEXT DAY with phone calls and an email. They super apologized and then FULLY explained what happened and what it was. Natural biodegradable cellulose to keep the hot dog's shape while cooking. Non-toxic, not harmful. We didn't eat any of the plastic anyway. Then they told me they talked to the manufacturer and let them know and enforced their super rules on them so it doesn't happen again. THEN they sent me a gift card. Talk about customer service. I was so so so very impressed by them. Now. The store. Like I said it's beautiful. It has a full bakery in the corner almost like a mini Panera with fresh breads and baked goods. They all smell and look fresh and delicious. Haven't tried it yet but I'm heading there tomorrow to do my shopping. Their produce is fresh and so good. I love their apples. You can weigh it and print up a sticker ticket so they just scan it real quick for you. Love that. They have a crazy variety of stuff: from workout clothes and shoes to organic trail mix and flavored waters and organic meats and deli meats and specialty food items and juices and omg EVERYTHING. Not to mention the amazing prices. 50 cents for a dozen extra large eggs? What! 1.25ish for a 6 pack of bottled flavored water? WHAT! The prices are almost mind blowingly low. And the quality is incredible. I purchased some non food items too: toilet paper ( 59 cents for 4 rolls and not bad quality at all), face wash (like a dollar for exfoliating and it makes me smell like fresh laundry. LOVE IT), and some bar soap that smells and feels exactly like Dove. I am so impressed with this place. It's my go-to from now on AND forever. read more

I visit this Lidl often and I usually find good deals. My only issue is they are not very good about opening up lines. There have been times I have completed my shopping and they only have one line open and they line is backing up. They lines have been sooo long on two occasions I have left without purchasing my groceries. If it wasn't for the check out situation I would have given more stars. read more

This is an Interesting grocery store. A lot of potential!! The pros 1. You can get some really different food here! They run weekly specials give products from a selected county like Italy and they bring in authentic food. So fun to try new things! 2. The baguettes are phenomenal 3. Quite a few organic options 4. The meat is very good 5. Most prices are very good 6. Produce is fresh And many more things I'm sure The cons 1. You can't buy everything on your grocery list here. The selection is limited 2. There is always something new which means the things you loved last week may not be here 3. There are never enough registers open 4. Don't forget to bring your own bags! That's about it! I love this store! It saves me so much money and their Lidl brands are outstanding! The only drawback to this store is they never have enough cashiers and it seems no matter when I go they only have 1-2 lines open. It's well worth it though since that's the only drawback! Very affordable groceries and feeding a family of 4, we became a regular!! Every LIDL store is designed to look the same so we can run in and grab whatever we need at it being in the same general aisle. I've been to the one in Norfolk, Chesapeake and Suffolk. I also love looking through the nonfood aisles. I bought a nonstick frying pan for I think $20 and I loveeee it. Hoping it'll come back so I could buy more! I read the history behind the company and it made me love the store even more. I don't have anything bad to say about LIDL. read more

There is not much to say about Lidl except the fact that it is amazing. Always have fresh fruits and veggies, great bakery, samples, great prices. Everything about this place is great. Except maybe that they usually only have one or two check out lanes open. But thats alright. They don't have plastic bags for free either. So either buy some or bring some.
