This has always been my grocery store of choice, regardless of it's failings, because I am loyal to Kroger & this is the closest one to my house. That said, the other two Kroger's where I periodically shop (Republic Drive & Virginia Beach Boulevard) are so, so so much better. Today was the worst experience ever. I didn't feel well at all, but forced myself to go to Kroger because I was out of everything, not having gone grocery shopping in three weeks. It was all I could manage to make it through the store, picking up the essentials as quickly as possible. Check out requires one to put all the items on a conveyor belt & I had a lot of things. So I was very relieved when that task was over. When the cashier finished, he kept hitting keys in the computer & finally summoned a supervisor. She looked at me & abruptly said, "The computer is frozen up. You'll have to check out again." Without a second look she rebooted the computer & walked off. I dejectedly made my way to the last checkout counter, expecting someone to at least take the groceries out of the bags & put them on the conveyor. But no one in the store offered help. The cashier just looked at me, waiting for me to start. I always bring reusable bags from customer friendly Whole Foods & Trader Joe's. I had 6 of those bags, each filled to the brim. I had to lift each to the conveyor belt & take every item out. The cashier let each emptied bag slide down the conveyor & into the groceries. It's a wonder any of them are still intact. Then he haphazardly rebagged my purchases, mixing items that should have been separated. One was so heavy I could barely get it into the car. Yes, it was a struggle to get the bags into my hour, then my house. I've put the now half frozen items into the freezer and have left the non perishables to put up later. Was the trip worth it? With the exception of having nothing I wanted for breakfast, I would say no. As usual they were out of many items. A few of my regular purchases no longer had a shelf space. Have they stopped carrying them? The hot food bar, as usual, was half filled. The items there were dry & unappetizing from lack of care. The hot food bars at the Republic Drive & Virginia Beach Boulevard stores are yummy & well stocked. Why is this store so different? Certainly it's very busy, especially on the weekend. But it doesn't meet the standards I expect from my Kroger shopping days in Atlanta & Cincinnati. I think I'll rest now.

Today I went to the store with my husband to pick up just a few quick things. There was a sign above their produce that advertised a sale price for cucumbers and green bell peppers at 2 for $1. My husband and I thought it was a great price for bell peppers so we grabbed a couple and went about our shopping. However, while we were at the produce, we also noticed that there was another tag directly on the green bells that said 89cents each. Now, having worked in a grocery store, I know that with other posted signage with the company logo, we were guaranteed the lower price and then after the transaction the company could do away with the sign if the sign was wrong. So I wasn't worried. (Keep in mind it would have been a total savings of a whopping 78 cents so either way it wouldn't break the bank.) During our total trip we only gathered a few items so we went to a self checkout hoping that the bells would scan at the correct price. Of course they didn't. So we asked for assistance and the lady came to help us. She went to price check the item and even though I mentioned the two different and conflicting signs, mentioned that she only saw the one sign for 89 cents each. I explained again that yes, the item is marked for that, and that there was, however, a different sign above the produce that mentioned a weekly add sale sign with the price of 2 for $1. She said she would grab the manager. She then left to page a manager and then I noticed she was on the phone with, I assume the manager, and came back to let me know that it was indeed, 89 cents. I mentioned that it wasn't a problem but that they should look into removing the conflicting information. Unfortunately, I think she may have taken this a little personally because her response was... "hey, it's not me. I'm not the manager." To which I replied, still not angry or upset, that yes. I know. But that she should bring it to the managers attention. We gathered our things and left. Now, I have a much higher tolerance than my husband does for people with poor customer service. But seeing how upset he was, I decided to look up the add. Printed paper. And on the website. It is indeed - 2 for $1. Wow. I'm so disappointed. Now it's not only the customer service rep that I'm saddened by, but the management as well. I will try my hardest not to return to this Kroger. Although I'm sure the business won't be hurt by the lack of my business, it's the principle that matters. Not the minimal business.

This place has came up. It is now better than the farm fresh Accross the street. Just got a fresh look inside and new paint outside.

Best grocery store this side of town. Store was clean and well-organized, though I did get that "crowded feeling" with all of the displays. Decent selection of organic produce. Would like to see more organics overall.

The nice young lady serving the samples smiled at me and told me she completely understood why I grabbed another container. Plenty of parking and the parking lot is well lit at night. It is typically well kept and inside the store is clean. Bathrooms available and a Starbucks inside. The one thing that annoys me about this location is that at night they solely rely on self checkout and will only have one employee there and everything moves so slow. The line gets so backed up, it's painful so I always try to avoid coming here after 8pm. It is also hit or miss with the staff's helpfulness/friendliness. Definitely way better to shop here first thing in the morning but that's typical with most grocery stores.

But I've got to say it may be worth the additional distance after a few visits the past month. Let's go through some highlights as related to compare with other area Kroger's, first they are a Marketplace which means they carry more than groceries. They have a good home goods selection. Something I found unique was the amount of Carhartt merchandise. I mean a lot! They also have the third largest wine and beer selection in Virginia Beach, it's massive! They offera larger inventory in every department and seem to have items I cannot find on Republic, or Shore stores. I had an interaction with the manager regarding a specialty beer they have had in the past, but did not have. She was helpful and apologized. Overall the store is impressive. Although my update remains neutral, it been seven years. The grocery ishuge, it's organized and clean. I will likely work the Holland Kroger store in my rotation.

The initial pickup didn't match what was advertised: kids' tray wasn't as advertised with the smiley face presentation making it part of the kid-friendly menu and the chicken was *barely* lukewarm and packed in a thin, flimsy cardboard box (which had no chance of holding in any kind of warmth) instead of the foil catering pans shown online. With the party starting in 45 minutes, it was a stressful moment because my whole setup was planned around keeping the food warm with a buffet warmer. What turned this into a 5-star experience was the stellar customer service. When I called, the Assistant Grocery Manager, Gregory S., was calm, kind, and immediately took ownership of the situation. Rather than just offering a refund, he asked for the chance to fix it so I wouldn't have to scramble for last-minute food for the party. Within minutes he called back to confirm they could remake the order and he would personally deliver it on time. He arrived with everything *exactly* as advertised. The chicken was hot and in proper foil catering pans, so it could be put on my warmer, and the kids' tray was arranged with a fun smiley face that the children loved, and wanted to eat. He was professional, apologetic, and genuinely focused on making sure my daughter's party went smoothly. Mistakes can happen anywhere, but the way this manager and his store handled it was exceptional and went well above and beyond. They completely turned a stressful situation into a positive one, and because of that level of care and follow-through, I would absolutely recommend them for catering. If you have specific setup needs, it may be helpful to call ahead to confirm packaging but based on this experience I have a lot of confidence in how they take care of their customers. Thank you to Gregory and to Publix!
