This is nice grocery store located in close proximity to the beach. I was especially impressed by the produce section. They had a nice selection and a wide variety of fresh fruits and vegetables. This location has a Starbucks located inside the front entrance. They also have a floral section. The meat section is immense. The bakery was large. The checkout was efficient and didn't take long. We always get our beach groceries from this location as they are the closest to the beach. They have a Salad bar and also freshly made to order subs available. Boars Head products in the deli and an abundant variety of freshly prepared food items that are perfect for lunch at the beach. They had my Ezekiel Bread so all was good! It pays to be a loyalty member as with all grocery stores and prices are reasonable given it is the beach. Decent selection of beer and wine. They are busy most of the times I've visited and given the location can tend to run out of some items (i.e. deli, seltzer, ice cream). So, for Harris Teeter, this was a little below my expectations -- but it's still fine. Easily the 3 1/2 it's netting here. First off, this location is small -- so very crowded, difficult to shop and socially distance in COVID, and WOW a LOT of people refused to wear masks and basically told employees to get out of their face by suggesting it. So, I ran through quickly to grab a few snacks and then got out. The perk was my check out clerk was lovely, and the general selection wasn't terrible given it's VA Beach. This HT is decent but by far not the largest, nicest, or well-stocked. Still, it serves the beachfront neighborhood near Laskin just past the roundabout, well. My boyfriend and I stopped in last week for some essentials for Memorial Day dinner while running errands in the area. It was bustling and busy during mid-day Saturday but most folks were wearing masks and were trying to social distance. The store has installed stickers on the floor at the registers to reinforce the 6-foot rule and have installed plexiglass between cashiers and customers as well. Like all Harris Teeter stores in the area, they have a great and fresh produce section well-stocked and usually full of goodies with tons of organic options. They also have a nice floral area with fresh arrangements in a cooler and other small gift items and balloons. If you are in the area and need something - it's a great place to shop. Prices are higher than Kroger or other stores but are in line with Whole Foods. Pro Tip: Cereal at HT however is MUCH more expensive than at Target or Walmart (think $2.39 vs $3.89+) for a small box of Cheerios. read more

This is my neighborhood grocery store so I'm here quite a bit. The prices definitely feel higher, and probably are since it is Harris Teeter AND in a tourist location. When I have the will-power to leave the Oceanfront bubble for my groceries, I typically do. I feel like there is a below-average selection of organic products here, but that could just be because they don't have a dedicated section for them. I've gotten a few things from the produce section that didn't hold up as well as I had hoped they would, but typically things are pretty fresh. They have several varieties of oat milk, so they should have just about everything on your list. The customer service is hit or miss, but I typically prefer as little interaction as possible when I'm grocery shopping so this has never really affected my experience. While we were shopping for yogurt for my son, one fell and it appeared undamaged so my husband put it back. From the moment it fell, a man stocking the cheese in a frozen manager shirt was glaring an angry look at us the whole time. As soon as we shut the fridge door and began to walk away, he stomped over, grabbed the yogurt, and continued to glare at us. If it was such a problem, he could have asked us nicely to hand him the yogurt rather than giving us an uncomfortable experience. Well this place blows. I came with my spouse to shop for an elderly relative who has not been able to visit a store in over a year. We have been vaccinated but are immune compromised and in contact with immune compromised people and children who are not able to be vaccinated. We both mask and will continue to do so to protect people around us and ourselves. I was stunned at the lack of masks in the busy store. In a personal conversation with my spouse, I asked if he would like to wait outside because there were so many people around without masks. A short maskless woman passing behind us stopped and yelled that she has a RIGHT TO NOT WEAR A MASK AND THEY CANT MAKE HER AND THOSE ARE RULES. Like, no one asked you, Karen! I said some stuff back about living in a society and protecting the vulnerable, but I just came to fill a grocery order, not waste breath on contagious Karens. Spouse went to wait outside, I headed to another aisle. A large maskless man lumbered over with a Kevlar-vested ARMED GUARD to ask if I had been harassing customers. It was bewildering, to say the least. Picture Milton from Office Space, but less sympathetic, and a very, very large mercenary who has gone into retail LP. I explained that a woman overheard a personal conversation and started yelling at us, and the unmasked manager immediately leapt at the chance to explain Virginia Law no longer requires masks, quite passionately, and not 6 feet away from me, and with an armed guard by his side. At no point had I said anything to any unmasked people, I was doing my best to avoid interacting with them and trying to get my more vulnerable partner to go outside because we were clearly surrounded by people who don't care about protecting the vulnerable. This place is completely bizarre and just has armed guards hanging around to back up antimasker management and nutjob antimasker shoppers. This puts into perspective any one star review I've ever given before, because at least in them there were no guns involved. It's helpful to have this Harris Teeter location so close to the Oceanfront. Best grocery store to stop at it if you're staying at the beach and don't want to drive far! Harris Teeter stores in general seem a bit expensive to me compared to places like Kroger or Food Lion and this one is no exception, but it does have just about anything you might need. My family is staying near the beach this week and have already stopped here twice in the last few days for grocery items, plastic utensils, Starbucks, and more. Today we went to pick up some fruit and while there was a good selection of produce, the berry containers were all super sticky. There must have been some not-so-fresh berries leaking into all the packages. Not the best quality control. Otherwise, we have had no problem following the layout of the store and finding everything we need. There are about six self checkout stations and today I saw 2-3 regular checkout stations open as well. The lines were not long when we were there around 2:30 this afternoon. We stopped at the Starbucks in the entrance on our way out and the barista was friendly and worked with us to get our drinks right. They are not short staffed, they are putting expectations on staff that is unrealistic. Applications come in, but the for help signs stay up bc it makes customers give mercy for their poor customer service. So many people have given me stories about how awful the service is when they're in there. Convenient shopping for locals and tourism keeps this place running, so they know they're going to turn a dollar regardless. The key here is that "short staffed" is being abused by large business. Fruits were not as fresh as I wanted it to be but I don't have much expectation coming in anyways-so it wasn't a disappointment. Self checkout was a nightmare because it wouldn't detect our item being in the bag... so it kept saying put it in the bag. I beautiful store with ok variety, which in Virginia variety and high quality foods including true organics is really hard to come by... but Harris Teeter is so outrageously expensive, it makes shopping at Whole Foods seem an outright bargain. The Pellegrino water I buy is $1.30 more here (almost twice the price) of other stores. Organic apple juice (the exact same brand) $2.49 in Food Lion (a grocery I quite dislike to say the least) $4.89 at Harris Teeter. That's practically double. Same eggs were $2.50 more than any other grocery in the area. Bread was $1.50 more. Even with thier discount card they are far more than anyone else for the exact same items (brand and size). What an absolute rip off. Norfolk and Virginia Beach, Virginia are already the very most expensive states for food in which I have ever lived, including Boston Mass, Providence Rhode Island, and Austin Texas. This is my neighborhood grocery store. I appreciate the fresh produce selection but finding bags to put it in can be a challenge. I would rate this store much higher but over the last couple of years I have watched customer service decline dramatically. The manager that I have seen there seems to be terminally salty. The staff reflect this. Many of the cashiers appear to be absolutely hating their job. I was there on Saturday and no matter how nice we tried to be to her she was extremely chilly and the way she treated my groceries I think they did something to offend her, especially the bananas. The store is clean and bright. It has the largest beer/wine section I have ever seen in my interstate travels. I will definitely visit the next time I visit Virginia Beach. In fact, I think we will choose a hotel that is close to HT. However, I do come away with a sour taste in my mouth regarding the HT deli. More than once I wanted to get hame or cheese that was on sale. This is a review of the salad bar only. I am one of those people who always procrastinates on the weekends and then never has anything for lunch on Mondays. Enter the dilemma.... Today I was too lazy to drive to Hilltop to one of my favorite salad places and decided to give Harris Teeter a try. Worst decision ever! This salad bar looked like it needed some Jesus and a hug. Food everywhere, containers everywhere, soup not hot and just looked basically sub par. I already spent time driving there and didn't want to waste any more time, so I went for it anyways. Let's just say I wasted $7.00 and didn't even eat the salad. Everything just had an off taste to it. It is still in the company fridge and will make an appearance in my compost pile tonight. (That is if the compost pile doesn't reject it!) Please do yourself a favor and avoid this HT's salad bar at all costs. read more

Convenient place to shop when visiting the beach. For some reason I like this location better than Greenbrier or Harborview although I don't think it is any more spacious. The grocery store is large enough and it is always well stocked and clean. The employees I have encountered are friendly and helpful. Wine selection is decent, but overpriced when compared to Total Wine. Look for the VIC specials - they will save you money if you shop smartly. Buy 2 get 3 free Harris Teeter brand coffee - yes please! Prices on some items are higher, but fairly comparable to other nicer grocery stores in the area. As another reviewer said, their made to order subs are great! Deli and bakery items have quality items. My only complaint, and it seems to permeate through the Harris Teeter branded stores, produce could be fresher. I have picked up squishy, nasty avocado and cucumbers in the store. Tomatoes should not start to grow mold after being stored in my home only a day or two. Harris Teeter needs to be more selective in the produce accepted and rotate the spoiled produce out of stock. Great place to shop for everything. excellent meats and seafood and deli selection.Clean, orderly, friendly helpful staff. The seafood cooks your shrimp with Bay seasoning, at no charge and shrimp is often onsale.. Get some in- store cole slaw and a steam veggies bag and dinner is served.They bake bread daily and it's ready about 11 am. Very occasionally, I have purchased a too-oft melon or produce, and they replace it at no charge, with an apology. They have many sales and deals so immediately get a shopper's card to start saving. Their pharmacy manager, Ryan, is the most knowledgable professional and keeps track of what we are taking to avoid any drug slashes. read more

Store going downhill. Shopping carts seem to mostly have a bad wheel or two, and are very annoying. Bathrooms do not seem to be cleaned very often. Merchandise selection not as appealing as other competitors, and WAY Overpriced. Needs less junk food and crap and more real nutritious food, at reasonable prices, presented in more appealing ways. Flowers do not seem to last very long from their floral area. Fish and seafood seem to be fresher at other competitor stores. I found better food at lidl that lasted longer than this. The frozen chicken I bought was raw on one side and cooked on the other, so it was super tough. And the broccoli I got went bad I'm a matter of days and I spent a total of $10 for the both of those.
