A Little Piece of Colombia in VA Beach…read more If you're Colombian (or just love real, soulful food), Bilu's Colombian Restaurant in VA Beach is an absolute must. From the moment we walked in, it felt like home--warm, welcoming, and full of corazón. Shoutout to Camila, our server, because baby... she went above and beyond. Attentive, kind, knowledgeable, and genuinely happy to make sure we had the best experience. That kind of service hits different. Now let's talk food, because whew ‍ We started with empanadas de pollo--crispy, flavorful, and perfect. My son ordered the pargo marinado with a jugo de lulo en leche (chef's kiss), and I had the carne en salsa criolla with a jugo de guanábana en leche that tasted exactly like back home. No shortcuts. No watered-down flavors. Just real Colombian goodness. To finish strong, we had a cafesito en leche with pandebono, and honestly... I could've cried. That's how authentic it was. As if that wasn't enough, we stopped by La Tiendita inside the restaurant and grabbed our favorites: Arequipe Alpina (porque obvio) and Manzana Postobón--our forever favorite soda. My son even picked up a Colombian national team jersey, which made the experience even more special. We left full, happy, and already planning to come back for breakfast Bilu's isn't just a restaurant--it's a whole Colombian experience. Gracias, Camila. Gracias, Bilu's. Nos vemos pronto.

Bilu's Colombian Restaurant & Rotisserie Chicken is located off Newtown RD in Virginia Beach. I…read moreattempted to visit a few weeks ago for dinner to try their Rotisserie chicken but unfortunately they were sold out so I recently returned again on a Friday during lunch for another attempt. When I entered I was greeted right away and was given a menu and I let them know I would like to place an order to go.  Service was great and the wait staff was very friendly and took my order immediately.  The dining room was very spacious with plenty of tables and they had bar seating available. While I waited for my food I decided to walk over to the bakery that was attached to the restaurant. The bakery sells a bunch of different Colombian/Spanish baked goods, snacks and frozen items. They also had a section setup similar to a gift shop that had purses, hats, clothing and souvenirs that you would mostly find if you were in Columbia which I found to be a nice and unique addition.  I ordered the half rotisserie chicken with coconut rice, fried cassava, and sugar cane juice with lime To-go. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed with the quality of my meal. My chicken lacked flavor and tasted as though it had been reheated rather than freshly prepared. The wing was so dry and dehydrated that it was inedible; only the leg and thigh were moist. Additionally, the coconut rice was significantly undercooked and excessively sweet, to the point that I could not eat it. The fried cassava was served in very large pieces that remained undercooked. The Sugar cane juice was a dark brown color and had a sour taste, suggesting it was not fresh.  Fresh sugarcane juice should be a greenish- yellow color and only turns brown after it oxidizes which changes the quality and is not what I expected.  I have heard great things about this restaurant and hope my experience is not the norm. While I am interested in other menu items, I am currently hesitant about when I might return.

I like that the menu had a variety of choices. Shay took my order and she was super friendly and patient. She answered all my questions, and the other guy who was with her bagging food was nice also. I got the pork and rice and chicken and rice box, with chicken and cheese and beef and cheese empanadas. I'm very picky about empanadas, so I sat in the parking lot and ate the first chicken and cheese one, then I levitated somehow back inside to order more. They were hot and delicious! The sauce that goes with it is crack also!! Mmmmm. The pork and chicken with rice tasted authentic like someones grandma was back there whipping it up. I won't lie, by the looks on the pics I didn't expect much because everything just looked brown. But it was good flavor with both dishes and a good portion. There were a few pieces of tough pork, but that was no issue, I still enjoyed it. They let me try the cake which I couldn't decide on, that was so nice of them. That cake is good!! Everything a pound cake should be!! I'm definitely getting that when I go back. I want to gatekeep it so bad, lol, but they deserve for them to be sold out!! The restaurant itself isn't big. It's more of a takeout spot, but there are some chairs and tables inside. It's decorated nice and has a welcoming feel. It was clean inside and the vibe was good!! When I got there, no one was there but 1 customer. When I left everybody and their mama was there! What, how, when?? I got my food and joyfully skipped out ready to grub like a chunky kid at Grandma's house!! Lol. I took a nap when I got home!! Lol. Definitely check them out!

The young lady who took my order was friendly and assured me that I would enjoy their food. I got there around 5pm and it seemed like she was closing down even though the sign said they closed at 7pm. There was no one else in the restaurant and it's only for take out. The restaurant was clean and is decorated with cultural items. The menu is not extensive but it's very traditional. I ordered their Arroz Morro with bistec encebollado and it came with a piece of maduro (for my husband, I'm vegetarian). Translated means white rice cooked together with black beans, steak with onions and a piece of ripe plantain. It was a healthy portion and everything was cooked well. Unfortunately she couldn't assure me that they had any vegetarian items so I just ordered for my husband. I was disappointed with the lack of any vegetarian options.

So to kill time waiting, I walked around to check out this place. It's a restaurant also offering Latin baked treats (donuts, cookies, etc). Then I saw in the refrigerated section what looked like flan in a plastic cup. I got one. So this review is purely for the flan. What's different is that they mixed gelatin with the egg custard so the texture is firmer. Not bad. There is another variety that even has different flavored gelatin bits in the flan. The place is clean, ambiance is lively with loud Latin music playing. Bright ambiance with natural lighting coming through floor to ceiling windows. The hostess:cashier is friendly. I looked at the menu over the counter and they serve what they call suchos which seems to be bread with marinated steak, spicy hotdog, chorizo with all the delicious toppings. I will definitely come back to try! But wait for it - though I didn't try anything for my tummy to enjoy, I left with my heart full. Because I waited so long for the door dash order, the hostess quietly filled a paper bag with a baked treat and handed it to me. I asked if it was part of the customer order, she said it was actually for me! Now that's a lot of heart and consideration. For that I give service 5 stars!

It was clean and nicely decorated. My friend and l visited on a early Wednesday evening. We were seated immediately. After being seated it did take a little while for someone to take our order. Drinks we had mango margaritas which were on a happy hour specials for 5.99 ( Happy Hour is 11 a.m. to 9 p.m daily!) The Trifongo consisted of 3 starches: mashed yuca, sweet plantain (maduros), and green plantain. The sweetness of the maduros gives a great touch. I guess this will be my go to dish here!

I ordered the Rockfish with Bomba rice and a Chorizo broth. The broth was amazing! The dish wouldn't be close to the same without it. I do wish there was more, the portion size was too small IMO.
