In my desperation, I initially booked with a large national lice removal company but canceled when bad reviews made me hesitant. I was so relieved to find a small local salon that could help us instead. As soon as we got there, Sherry made us feel at ease. She checked my husband for lice and then got to work on me and my two kids. Throughout, she was so very thorough, engaging, and informative. If you have discovered you/ your kiddo have lice--(or even if you got an alert from your child's school that it is going around)--I'd say just book an appointment to get checked out here asap. Just go to the professional. I tried the at home DIY treatment called "The Cure," with my family and I --first--(from an Amazon find)...and unfortunately it doesn't work. The at home treatments you get over the counter--don't work...(apparently lice are now resistant to so many of the at home DIY products)--and you will likely drive yourself crazy trying to get your kids to stay still/ and to not get the product in their eyes (says non-toxic, but actually is super toxic in eyes...it didn't even get in my kids eyes, but both of their eyes were red the next day--perhaps from the fumes?!) Anyways, Lice removal by Magic Hands is worth it--and their products are non-toxic! The prices vary by the severity of the case--which even the "slight cases" are over $100; and the most severe cases up to $200-which is steep; but I would have had to buy at least 3+ Amazon DIY kits and combs to do at home (which were all at least $50); so going to Magic Hands and having the peace of mind--and the paper clearances to give to your children's school--is worth it. Also never had my hair done slicked back so tightly before (pretend you're at a spa treatment)! Oh, also it's super cute for kids and has toys and games and a big screen TV playing shows (and my kids who have NEVER let me do their hair in their lives before--sat perfectly still for the professional). And the professional is all about EDUCATION and will answer any and all of your questions. So highly recommend--also I did read there is one day that has a discount (I believe it said Tuesday), so perhaps that is a price saving option -if that's the only way you can do it--do it! read more

This is a wonderful business. I have elementary, middle and high school aged children, so when my head was itching, I assumed the worst. I came in to get a check and found out my scalp was just irritated from dehydration and a new shampoo. The technician gave me a thorough check and treated me very well - no lice - thank goodness. The price of the check was reasonable at $25. She gave me some tips on how to deal with a dry scalp and to prevent lice. Having lice come into your life is no fun!! But the wonderful ladies at Magic Hands make it feel so much less awful, and so much more manageable. They have a beautiful, bright space in Signal Hill which is comfortable and set up to welcome all ages. My daughter particularly loved the red car chair she got to sit in while she was checked. Before visiting Magic Hands I did plenty of research regarding lice shampoos and products, and felt very comfortable with the products they use, even on my very young daughter's head. Well..the lady had a price but she always increased the price and made an unreasonable reason like oh yours was severe. She treated my friend's hair & their hair was mild according to her so they didn't need treatment. So what's considered mild enough to need treatment to be at the price she says to not have a reason to uplift it, get me? She charged more for other things that weren't disclosed like oh your hair is long, oh hers was thick etc. very bad service in terms of setting price. There's basically hidden prices. Don't recommend. Go to one that have a set price. read more

Amazing Service! Really sweet and wonderful experience. I called just before they closed and got an appointment next day. They're only by appointment so you will have all attention on you. I got to pick the show. We had a great chat and best of all I got rid of those dang lice! The service was very thorough and they even put some braids and tied my hair into a bun for a protective style. It took an hour and cost $99. I also opted to get the lice treatment spray because I do work with kids so I wanted to have it on hand. The spray was $55 which sounds high but will last 2 years if I'm using it twice a month so I expect it will last much longer! Oh and while you're there you can grab a bag of chips to snack on for free :) just all around a great experience couldn't recommend them more. There is parking right in front. read more

I had been battling lice in my daughter's crazy thick long hair for months & was sure I had finally beaten those sneaky little bugs. I was at my "nits" end. I've tried it all. Nix. Rid. Lice Combs that say they will zap the lice. Obviously nothing worked so I came here in October. I was able to have my whole head lice removed as I sat comfortably and watched anything I wanted on Netflix. I got a bottle of their treatment for my daughter as well as their nit free terminator comb that they sell. I've seen around 4 Combs and none compare to this comb. It picks up everything. I had seen "Lice Removal by Magic Hands" advertised on the rear window of a car driving around Long Beach a few times before. "Who needs a professional lice removal service?" I thought to myself, incredulously. That was before I had a six-year-old daughter whose itchy scalp we had misdiagnosed as irritation from the chlorinated pool at swim lessons, essentially ignoring the obvious symptoms for two weeks. When she started getting a visible rash around her ears and the nape of her neck, we finally dug deeper and saw the dozens of lice eggs planted near her roots. We ran out and bought a Nix Complete Lice Treatment Kit at the drug store, treated her hair with the pesticide creme rinse, and used the wimpy nit comb that was included in the kit to pull out about 30-40 still-twitching lice. For the next three days, I spent an hour each night combing even more still-living lice from her hair. The eggs would never come out; they were too small for the crummy comb, and I could only remove them by snipping out individual hairs. We were getting nowhere fast. The next morning, I admitted defeat and called up Lice Removal by Magic Hands. Bailey answered the call around 9:30, and told us to come in at 11:00, and she would take care of us. The salon is nestled in the back corner of a row of small shops, somewhat hidden behind a burger joint, on South Street in North Long Beach. Not much to see from the outside, but cozy, clean, and ready for de-lousing action inside. There are three salon chairs equipped with booster seats facing a small, flat-screen TV with Netflix already fired up, as well as a play area for siblings, and a sitting area for parents. Bailey let my daughter pick a show she wanted to watch, and grab a bag of chips from their snack bowl. After that, she could just veg out while Bailey spent the next 80 minutes or so spraying a nontoxic, enzymatic lice removal solution on her scalp, working it into a lather, and thoroughly combing every inch of her thick, wavy hair with a GOOD nit comb. She pulled out quite a few baby lice, and all of the eggs that our home treatment kit couldn't even touch. It was disgusting and awesome at the same time. I had a nice time chatting with Bailey as she worked; she's smart, friendly, and funny. I purchased a bottle of enzymatic spray and one of the good nit combs from their retail shelf on my way out, for at-home prevention. There was no pressure whatsoever to buy these extras; Bailey even talked me out of buying a few more items that would have been overkill at this stage in the treatment. How refreshing it is to visit a business where the people are knowledgeable, honest, and genuinely helpful! It has only been three days since we went in, so we haven't returned yet for a re-check, but our daughter's constant head-scratching has almost completely stopped, and we're breathing a sigh of relief that we decided to visit Lice Removal by Magic Hands. Everything started out fine and miss bailey was very friendly and kind during the lice removal for my 4 yR old. I called early Thurs morning and she answered the phone listed on the Website right away and I got an appt for 1030a same day. She told me to leave The Lice removal spray for the day and to rinse it off the next day, which I did. I got the most expensive package $225 which I didn't mind paying given alll lice would be removed and she would stay lice free. The package included a free recheck in a week, which she put me down in her calendar for. The next day, Friday, I found a big louse in her hair near her scalp as I was combing her. Then I proceeded to find Nits. I called right away to take her in. No answer, straight to voicemail. My VM nor multiple calls were never answered. I proceeded to clean and comb through her hair confident they would at least get alll the nits that I'd miss at the recheck. I drove all the way to Long Beach at 530p traffic and they were a no show. Long story short ... I'm still dealing with lice. Only now I'm more broke. Beware. read more

My overall impression is that they are caring. My son was comfortable the entire process. I noticed there were no prices posted, I had no idea how much this service was going to be until it was done. It's pricey. They DO NOT charge a flat fee be mindful of this, however, I did not feel they took more time than necessary in order to drive up the cost to the customer. I would award five stars if I was able to see a price list before hand (but I happen to be very cost conscious). So impressed with this place. I was completely fed up with trying to use OTC lice removal products and trying myself to rid my daughter of her lice.
