I am very appreciative of this place for kids haircuts. I live in Long Beach and make way to get to Cerritos. Been here a total of 3 times, and I haven't been let down. First haircut was with Olga when my son turned 1. Easy breezy and he was happy with Ms Rachel on tv. I came a second time with Jennifer since my besf recommended her but I feel like my son did better with Olga. Jennifer was accommodating and had me sit with my son because he was terrified but she didn't talk to him and try to ease his crying. I feel like Olga was more tender and affectionate and my son needs that during the cut. I think it's just different personalities and that's fine, but I was also overwhelmed as he was yelling and the whole experience was chaotic. It's just finding the stylist that fits your child's needs. Anyway we're happy lol read more

Scheduled an appt through their website and then received a text regarding my appt. I told them I would be coming in earlier and they said they will give me a stylist available once I come in. When I got there the girl told me Olga was at lunch and no other stylist available. I got so confused cause what if someone walked in without an appt? They had to wait also? So I waited 30 mins until Olga arrived only to see other stylist inside the room in the back. So I'm not sure what happened there. This place is great for kids for sure more expensive than most. $36 for a cut with Xbox and it was like 10 mins long so not sure if worth it for me. But definitely give them a try. My husband took my son in for an appointment with Brandy this morning. She did a terrible job. It's horribly uneven. I called to see if we could come back to fix it as we're leaving for vacation this week. They refused to squeeze him in today and didn't so much as apologize for the inconvenience. She said (with an attitude) the best she could do is fit him in tomorrow which doesn't work bc we have work and school. If I messed up at my job like this, I would offer a refund and bring the person right back in to fix it immediately. Terrible customer service!! read more

We had a very nice experience at Sharkeys . They had cute cars for son as well as tvs to distract them with. If your child is really young like mine that's only 1 . I suggest bringing cookies or some kind of special treat . It really helped when she used the clippers on him . read more

To be a children's driven business you would think they level of customer service, and patience would be better. The 3 minute late policy is completely absurd especially when you know what it's like dealing with LITTLE KIDS. I can understand 5min or even 10min but seriously 3minutes almost seems disrespectful. You know with kids anything can happen. Besides that the front desk seriously shows lack of patience and communication. Even when they are in the wrong and you are accommodating to their changes, they don't give you the same respect back Also, the haircuts alone are a hit or miss. It's best to try and stay consistent with the same person so you can get similar results. Wasn't worth the headache anymore, going some where else. read more

I brought my daughter here for her very first haircut, and unfortunately, it was not the experience I hoped for. My daughter has autism, and while she's generally very calm (and was perfectly calm in this situation), the stylist made her disability unnecessarily obvious. Every time my daughter simply turned her head to glance at the scissors not crying, not fussing, just looking the stylist would dramatically say, "OK, OK, I'll stop." Instead of making things easier, it created a very uncomfortable and isolating environment for us both. What made it even more frustrating was that the stylist mentioned she had experience working with children with disabilities. Based on the way she handled this situation, I honestly don't understand how. The cut itself was also disappointing, barely a trim and surprisingly expensive for the lack of effort or sensitivity. As a parent, all I wanted was a positive, welcoming experience for my daughter's first haircut. Sadly, we left feeling let down and excluded, and I would not recommend this salon to other families seeking an inclusive space. read more

Brought my son for a haircut about 3 months ago, and we liked it enough to book an appointment again today. I was 10 minutes late, and spoke to the receptionist and she said she had to ask the stylist first if she can take us in. So we waited and once she came out she said she wouldn't be able to take us. Yes,that is my fault but come on it's a kids hair salon. Kids have accidents etc. Especially because the last time I came I had to wait for the stylist for about 10 minutes for my son to get his haircut. Do not recommend this place. read more

They have a 3 minute late polity , which seems unreasonable to be honest ... there's that. Quality of haircut is dependent on who you get although even that's been a hit or miss. We've had stylists cancel on us without accommodations same date on multiple occasions . The price is on the higher side for a kids cut ... Environment is nice . Kids get balloon and candy after cut . The cars are cool for the littles And the Xbox was a life saver for training our kid to get a haircut . We love Sharkey's! We've been coming here for 3 years and love Brandy and everyone working. They make my kids feel comfortable when getting their hair cut. My kids get to choose between video games, what show to watch, and where to sit when they come in and they love that choice. When they are done they get prizes that they look forward to every time. Not sure, wish I could remember her name) had fun fuzzy boots on pink and blue stripes in her hair. Just have a little patience with kids, as far as I know this place is for kids right? Just try. Even just a little. You know who you are. Just try. We were turned away in an instant cuz my child is a typical child that's having a fear of unknown. So my kid is scared and crying. I'm trying to warm up my kid by talking engaging him with his surrounding but I felt rushed by this lady. Our first time here is when my baby was 1 yr old, we had a great experience. But this second time around with different lady, it was a very bad experience. We are early and we have to wait for her for about 10mins to finish up her previous client. Just for us to be turn away not even 5mins. Anyway, thanks to you! We find another Lady that does it real good! My kid loves her, yes, my kid had a little bit of tantrum but she did great with my kid, she is so patient, she waited til my kid get used to the environment and voila! Second review. Probably not coming back. Staff is nice and understanding with kids, esp if they are crying. But the haircut is not cute. I'm sad and disappointed. I didn't realize how ugly the haircut was til my husband pointed out and after we bathed our son. Before we left the salon, the lady styled his hair with gel. After we washed the gel off, the haircut looked horrible!! It looks like he got a bowl cut from the front view! And the lady shaved off too much hair from the back. He looks like he has a toupee on. Look at the pictures for reference. I know hair grows back, but for the price we paid and the fact that we have an event in a few days, hence the need for a new haircut, I'm just disappointed. They ruined my so son's hair, the style was horrible and took a while for him to regrow and fix.

We came here for our son's "first" "official" haircut prior to his first birthday. We had trimmed his hair ourselves before but it was more maintenance vs looks. But finding this place, it seemed like a very unique and fun place for a kid to get their first haircut with a stranger. This place had fun colors and props and TVs to distract your kid with their favorite shows. So the pros: - The race car he was in and the TV with Ms. Rachel seemed to distract him enough to not cry once during the cut (or maybe he wasn't going to cry anyway? We'll never know) - The haircut was fine - Get a lock of hair, some lollipops, and a balloon And the cons: - Expensive for a 10-15 min cut. Believe it was high-$30s and mid-$40 after tip - Our barber, Brandy, who was mentioned in several other reviews was a little off-putting. She wasn't unfriendly but she just didn't really interact with our son much at all like the barber on the other chair did with her client, and kind of relied on Mom to interact with him - Front desk was kind of the same way. Not unfriendly but just kind of cold, no smiling at all...which is fine but I guess not what I expected at this colorful happy kid place? Overall, in the future, I'll probably just try to cut my son's hair on my own or find a cheaper place, and throw on some Ms. Rachel on an iPad and see what happens. read more

I got my two year old for her first haircut here. I was quite surprised to see that she bonded with the hairdresser immediately. She sat on her own all through her haircut in her little toy car chair , and she was offered a box of stickers , she barely noticed what was going on and overall it was a pleasant experience! Service was okay, the two ladies there were nice but the customer service can use some help. This place was not clean at all. The cars were full of hair from previous customers. And not a little bit of hair, hair in chunks all in the seats. You would think they would take better care of the place for $50 a haircut. I definitely will not be going back. read more

I brought my six-year-old son here for a haircut and Olga did a great job. She was very thorough and quick and it's one of the better haircuts my son has ever had. I typically have a good experience here; but this last time it was rough. Hairstylists was very rushed and had a hard time working with my son who is afraid of the hair cut machine. My son's hair cut was very badly cut. It should be of practice for hairstylist to ask parents if their children do well with the hair machine or if scissors are preferred before cutting hair. I strongly believe if the hairstylist would have asked us before starting to cut we would have been successful. My son would have not been so startled. By implementing the practice of asking parents first it can help them prepare on how to navigate special cases. read more

My little 4 year old daughter absolutely loved the experience there. She was picked out the smell of her own conditioner and seat, nail polish color and ring!
