When attempting to contract this company I left a message and was told I'd be contacted within a certain time frame. Damian failed to call me back within the time frame that he said he would and I should have taken that as a sign, but I was desperate and overwhelmed due to a pending cross country move, so I just needed to hire someone. I was simply looking to hire labor to move items into a POD storage unit. I was hesitant to hire this company based on the informality of the hiring process. I paid my deposit outside of their website and was sent a text message link to pay my deposit. Moving day came and I selected a moving window between 12-2pm. I received a call from Damian letting me know they will be between 30 to 60 minutes late. I was annoyed but stayed positive, and I gave them the benefit of the doubt. The movers didn't arrive until 4:40 PM. We began a walkthrough and when they saw the peloton exercise equipment (that was disclosed to Damian when I hired them), they informed me that items over 60 lbs would incur a $120 surcharge. I found that to be ridiculous considering most furniture is over 60 lbs. when I pointed out that my TV was over 60 lbs they told me that wouldn't be subject to a surcharge, so where's the consistency? I promptly asked them to leave my house. Don't hire this company. I wanted to hire a company that was veteran owned but between the unprofessionalism, hidden fees, and shady practices I just can't recommend them to anyone. read more

They were late coming to move my daughters belongings and then when they got to her storage unit, they tried to charge her 60 dollars right then and there and they called it a long walk fee. Something they just made up. The agreement was to pay $150 per hour for a professional, moving company. My daughter signed a paper that showed her start time which was after 3 o'clock. At the end of the move, the workers stapled a contract to the start time sheet that my daughter signed a contract that we had never seen until that point. This company was so terrible. They broke up a lot of my daughters things they were so disrespectful. There was one man very out of shape with dreadlocks. He was so angry that my daughter was moving from the third-floor even though they were aware at the time of booking. He was mad so he started throwing her belongings onto the truck like a football! I was standing on the balcony videotaping the whole incident. Please, please do not hire this company. The owners name is Damien and all he does is patronize you on the phone it's like he's happy when people call and complain because some kind of way it amuses him. Warning, he's a crook! Only one of the guys he sent to our home actually physically move items to the truck. The guy with dreadlocks was completely lazy he sat on the bumper of the truck and was rapping to music the whole entire time. We ended up being charged for four hours, but the move didn't even take that amount of time. The two movers were so disrespectful. One of them even called my daughter A bitch! We had to end up calling the police to help us because we didn't feel safe. Do not use this company because if you do, you're going to end up donating your furniture to the Goodwill or you'll have to throw it right into the dumpster. They broke furniture, damaged walls (and tried to hide the damage with a piece of furniture), damaged railing, lost pieces of furniture, some items mysteriously "disappeared," and they repeatedly blew off appointments. They quoted a price, and then they raised it without notice. When I tried to talk to the owner, all I received were sarcasm and excuses. He kept saying, "I'm trying to make it right." But that didn't involve any kind of reimbursement. Not sure what he even meant by "make it right" since he wasn't actually willing to do anything. He acted like he was doing us a favor when they delivered the broken dresser 3 weeks later. I should mention that they repaired the part they broke. BUT they somehow managed to lose several drawer handles in the process. They found some on the floor of the truck, but not the screws to attach them. So that's awesome. If someone you know needs movers, and you absolutely hate them, feel free to recommend. Otherwise, don't even bother. read more

I wish I would have ran the other way when my mom suggested these guys to me! They absolutely destroyed my furniture not to mention the theft that took place!!! I thought the worst part was that they were lazy and irritated by having to much to move. Where do I even start... my lamp that was one of those spider lamps with 3 arms to it they cracked off each on of them so the head were hanging by the cables inside the lamp! I told Damian who is the owner of this mess and he told me that he would not replace it he would take it to be repaired... it apparent this lamp was absolutely destroyed. During this time I realized that they do have an insurance option on the back when I asked him why he did not offer this to me he said it was too expensive . ??? Really you made that decision for me. This was just the beginning to this nightmare I am a makeup wholesaler I had them stop at my moms to pick up stuff I have a Dodge Ram and asked them to transport all of my high end palettes and also 3 bags full of makeup... this has now disappeared I never saw it after I asked them to put it in their truck to take to my moms. It's not over yet... then I went to go put the glass piece into my long front door table and the table start to sway back and forth it had completely detached from the top of the table and it was not because the screws were loose. If I can add pictures I will. Then I went into where they threw all my stuff and went to put a book on my bookshelf and the whole back fell off and the shelf fell down. This was perfectly fine bEfore in fact this held my tv on top before this move. Ya unfortunately it gets worse no clue where they stored my belongings but my brand new king size mattress .... has a hug stain on it all across the top!!!!!!! Damian refuses to do anything about any of the damages and I am out almost 1k for this move and I cannot get part of it back because they conned me into paying cash "so I didn't have to pay the high sales tax" this is bullshit! They knew that the damages and theft that I would argue these charges but if I paid cash I could not!!! BEWARE!!!!! Seriously!!!! Do not hire this company !!! They are thieves, liars , and they will not take responsibility for their destruction !!!! Worst moving company ever. The first truck that was sent was late and impounded because it didn't have plates and the driver had a suspended license. The second truck showed up at 3:30pm and was smaller. It took 2 days to move instead of one. Every piece of furniture has a scratch or dent that cannot be repaired. Because the truck was smaller, they could not fit all of my items and then charged me 60% more than was quoted for everything. I am missing a few items and now Damian will not return my phone calls. He also demanded cash as payment without telling me up front. This is not good business or service. Moving is difficult anyway. Using Liberty moving and storage made it a nightmare. read more

Worst movers ever. They do not do any type of inventory, so when things go missing, you have no recourse. Broke my oak dresser and two glass table tops. Nicked and chipped every piece of my furniture. Damian, the owner, said he would pay for repairs, but never did. I gave up on getting him to do so; was just glad not to work with this company any more. Lost items that they put in storage (Damian said the storage unit was in Oak Park and complained that he had to hire a second unit because we had too much stuff. He just underestimates everything. And the storage fees were almost as much as our monthly rent!) Some of the items they lost included many of my husband's tools and a sturdy steel shelving unit. Never got them back, even though I told Damian that we were missing them. The movers complained about the amount of stuff we had to move, and insisted I throw things away at the curb because they were not going to make a third trip. This was after I told the owner during his estimating process that it had taken two trips with a full-size semi to move us in. He sent a small truck with three people who did not know how to move. Damian was unavailable on moving day, so I was stuck dealing with his poor-attitude moving crew who said Damian told them it was a one-trip easy move. I really wish I would've read the reviews before I trusted Liberty with my move. They were not my first Choice but the first place I called was booked for the day I wanted to move. First of all Damian and his helper showed up late. It was obvious from the start that his guy was new or never moved anything a day in his life. They were late because their truck broke down, reportedly, and showed up in a Penske rental truck. After they moved a few things I started to realize they weren't using a dolly. When I asked about that they told me that no they didn't have a dolly this time. Mind you, I only hired them to move the big things: appliances, exercise equipment, and some furniture. When I called for a quote Damian said it would only take a few hours and that the quote was on the high side. Well considering no dolly, it actually took 8 hours to complete the 3-5 hour job. Additionally they managed to scratch/gouge the laminate flooring of my old house. When asked about compensation he said he would take $120 off my bill. $120!!!!! The gouge was in the center of the floating floor. I'm sure whoever fixes it will spend hours in labor. I would never recommend this service to my worst enemy. I feel bad since it seems that Damian is trying to make an honest living, And I thought maybe it was just a bad day, but now that I have read the other reviews I think it was probably just another day at the office. read more

My initial experience with Liberty Moving and Storage was largely acceptable. I moved my belongings from a second story 2 bedroom apartment, into one of their storage units. My belongings remained in storage for a little over 6 months. When the time came to move my belongings out of storage into a second story apartment / flat - I discovered that many of my belongings were missing! I entrusted my belongings to Liberty Moving & Storage, and I felt I was taken advantage of - even though the owner,Mr Damian Cooper, assured me that I would have "no worries"- and that I would be satisfied with my moving experience. Because Liberty Moving & Storage offers a "budget" moving service - they neglected to take an initial inventory of my belongings, therefore I have no way of proving that there are belongings of mine that that are missing - items such as a printer/scanner/copier, several surge protector strips, an electric space heater, a 50 ft. extension cord, and all my tools (expensive hammer, screwdrivers, wrenches, pliers, etc.) Even my molded plastic patio chairs and matching table-GONE! With no explanation and left with no recourse-except to replace these items at my.own expense! I came to the conclusion that his unscrupulous moving personnel had access to my storage unit throughout the six month period...or else, simply 'set aside' items they deemed 'I wouldn't miss on the other end....' I daresay. Are these movers 'background-checked'? Highly unlikely..... I got the "shaft"... Even after giving a recommendation and repeat business to two subsequent customers....family members, even! Used this company 2 years ago , besides the fact of them being late, I had no problems! So why not continue business , however this past experience was horrible! This time they were a hour late, changed the price from what he quoted in the first place which was confusing because they moved my same furniture before and it wasn't a problem !!!!!! I guess since the movers were out of shape, and had back problems that was the case!!! Keep in mind we pay by the hour so of course my 1 bed room apt took 4 hours ! There was a stop directly next door but it never should've taken that long! So here's the worst part.... they had someone else's belongings in the truck along with mine ! Once they unloaded my items I seen a roach !!!! On my box ! I contacted them , along with my new property manager to get to the bottom of it!!!! Damien had a million excuses, very defensive , told me he'd follow up and never did! The property manager had pest control come out there was no signs of anything, and they suggested I call the movers to notify them! I just bought a new house and contacted Liberty Moving because a friend of mine had just used them and liked their service. I contacted Damion Cooper on Thursday and their first available time was the following Monday between 2-3. On Sunday I called Damion and confirmed my appointment time. Monday around 2:30 I received a call from the driver indicating they were running about an hour behind because of some complications at the previous job. Around 4:20 I contacted the driver asking about his ETA because I had someone who was moving into my apartment as soon as I had my stuff out. Plus I had friends waiting to help me unpack stuff at my new house. He told me they were still unloading the truck and could probably be there in 45 minutes. When I voiced my irritation/concern the driver of the truck told me he didn't know why the owner scheduled appointments without viewing what customers had in advance and that I should ask for a discount. I also contacted the owner at this time and he said he was going to call the driver and call me back. He also tried to put the blame on me for them being late because he had tried calling me earlier because an availability for earlier in the day had come up and I didn't call him back. Keep in mind he never left a message and I was busy moving thinking that my appointment wasn't until at least 2:00. Around 5:40 when I still hadn't heard anything I called the owner again but no answer. Called the driver and he said they wouldn't be to my place now until 6:30. At 6:20 I received a call from someone else at the office asking if they could reschedule for the following day. When I told her that was not an option because someone else was moving into my place that night she told me she would call me back. About 40 minuted later I tried calling the owner, no answer. Tried the individual from the office, no answer. Tried the driver, no answer. They finally called back an hour later. Still no one showed up and there was no plan for them to move me despite the circumstance they left me in. Needless to say I called the only other moving company that was still open at that time of night and made an appointment for the next morning. The person moving in moved what they could fit but now can't move the rest of their stuff in for a week because of their work schedule. Not to mention my bed was torn down, I had no blankets, no clothes or even a toothbrush because everything but the furniture had already been moved. When I spoke to Damion for the final time at 8:00 pm he acted like it was no big deal, was unprofessional and disrespectful. I would never use or recommend this company to anyone. The owner of this company, Damian Cooper, is not running an upstanding business. His two workers arrived timely, but were ill-equipped to handle my move. Although Mr. Cooper had personally visited my home and surveyed my belongings, he sent two workers with a smaller than agreed upon moving truck. They had to move my things in and out of the truck several times to get them all to fit in the truck; the move took twice as long as had been quoted; and I had extensive damage to multiple items and property. Mr. Cooper promised to pay me for the repairs, but never did. He didn't show up in court for the hearing (yes, I filed a small claims case), a judgment was entered against him, and he seems to have disappeared. There is no record of this business even being legitimately licensed. I'd steer clear of this company, and any others recommended any employees at the St. Clair Shores U-Haul store.
