I had an extremely disappointing experience with this company and would not recommend them to anyone, especially if you are on a tight timeline. The movers arrived smelling strongly of marijuana, which immediately raised concerns about professionalism and safety. More importantly, they were not prepared to perform the move at all. It became clear that the owner, who provided the original quote, failed to communicate the true scope of the job to his own crew. As a result, the movers said they could not complete the services I had booked and left a deposit for. This left me in an impossible situation, as I was closing on the sale of my house the very next day. I was forced to scramble at the last minute to find another moving company under extreme stress. A moving company should be reliable, professional, and transparent--especially when people's homes and major life events are involved. I contacted Jim Height for information regarding scheduling/pricing, and specifics regarding a move requested for this past weekend. I am a senior citizen, and I was very specific about the fact that I was recovering from a recent surgery and was not able to lift med/large heavy boxes placed (stacked) on top of one another once transported to my new residence. I also spoke at length with Jim's brother, Stewart, regarding packing materials snd number of boxes needed to pack remaining belongings in my home. I was also told that there were specific packing materials that would be sent to carefully wrap expensive large rugs that needed to be sent out to be professionally cleaned once the move took place. Four young, courteous men arrived on rime for moving day, but unfortunately, underestimated the time/men needed to completely move me from my home to my new residence, so plans were made to continue the move to the following day. Movers overall, were careful with my furniture and belongings, but are not properly trained to consider properly labelling boxes, so that when a bed is dismantled, for example, and put back together again, the bed can be quickly remade! Zero considerations for personal care products, clothing, personal computer, medications (used everyday) to be set aside so they can be found easily once moved. I am still looking for my houseplants that are sitting out in my garage, despite cold weather, because the boxes they were packed in are poorly marked. The plants should have been brought into the house, not left in the garage! The carpets that Stewart stated would be carefully attended to and wrapped securely never happened, after spending over $3,000 for a local move twenty minutes away. Disappointed at best. read more

I am hesitant to write a poor review because this company had been somewhat reliable and efficient in the past but I got so screwed on my last move, I feel compelled to warn other people. The owner is "good people" and he personally moved me on two occasions but this last move was a disaster. This company managed to completely destroy my faith in and loyalty to them in one failed move due to poor communication (with each other and with me), unprofessional conduct, horrible brand management, terrible problem solving, over-promising and under-delivery. I had to call and confirm my move, they showed up late, decided that due to the delay they didn't have time to move me, called and said they found a replacement, called me back and said the replacement wasn't available, called me again and said one employee would bring the truck b/c I had found people to help do the move, called me back and said the employee wouldn't do it, offered to move me for free after the holidays. No amount of money would restore my faith in this company. Stuff happens, I get it but this problem/SNAFU was so poorly managed that I would advise Jim to go into a different line of business. read more

I cannot emphasize how unbelievably BAD my experience with Designed to Move was. Or rather, I should say, my experience "continues to be," because they still have not made the situation right and compensated me for damages. I still have not received the paltry insurance check that they promised me months ago. 1) They don't care about your things 2) They take zero accountability for their actions 3) They operate on the premise that you will be too disheartened to pursue any compensation for their awful work Josh and Andre packed our apartment, but were terrible. They omitted items like we were going to come back to them later, and also were combined items very haphazardly, without enough packing material. Who leaves all of the clothes in a giant dresser when moving it across the country? Who packs wine glasses with three books of CD's? My attempts to point out which items were fragile and important did not help matters. As Josh said himself, "I could care less about the stuff that I'm packing. That's what makes me a good mover." Nice one, buddy. On moving day, the truck showed up four hours late because the rental company didn't have a truck ready. To my horror NONE of the furniture was wrapped in blankets before it was being moved. I brought this up to the team and they told me it was normal, but I have done 2 out-of-state moves before and I know that this is a terrible idea. Well, when they got here it was revealed that EVERY SINGLE PIECE OF FURNITURE THAT I OWN now has a special blend of dents, scratches, and nicks on it. My parents' dining set from the 1960s, my wife's grandmother's chest from South Africa, my custom music furniture, all were deeply damaged. Not one piece of furniture came through unscathed. This didn't happen from the unloading, because I watched it. It happened because the packing and loading services that D2M provided were horribly poor. I paid them for work that they were incredibly bad at. In the unpackers words, "this truck was not packed for a cross-country move. It was packed as an in-city move." Getting to a new place and discovering that your most prized possessions are damaged is a deeply violating feeling. I will never forget it. Eh, are there any good movers? I liked the reviews of this company, so I hired them for a short local move. I emphasized during the booking that I had a particularly large, heavy refrigerator and that they should be prepared for this. One of the movers they sent was injured and wearing a back brace. tl;dr, it took longer than it should have and there was a lot of cosmetic damage and some cracked shelves in my fridge. The movers indicated they had no been advised about the refrigerator as I'd asked. :| Other than this, they were prompt, courteous, and polite. read more

I purchased the Living Social deal in November for my December 15th move, just 1.5 miles down the road. The crew, led by Paris, was great and they moved everything quickly and efficiently during a huge snowstorm, managing to get everything moved within the two hours I had purchased. I tipped each mover well because of their professionalism and hustle. One item did get damaged; Paris was wheeling a heavy antique bookcase by himself and it fell, causing the top shelf to break off. The damage was repairable and he noted on the bill (he quoted $0.60 per pound, the piece was about 50lbs) that I would be reimbursed $30 by the company. Months later I cannot get Brian (of the Roseville location) to return an email and have contacted Living Social to have them escalate the issue. It may not be thousands of dollars but management should still have the courtesy to follow up. Totally disappointed with the lack of professionalism by management, I would have liked to give a great rating because the movers were professional and helpful, even in a snowstorm. Also, I have used several moving companies before and have always gotten estimates; maybe because of the Living Social they didn't bother. From the other reviews it sounds like these guys usually wing it, which worked out in my case as I was only moving a small apartment's worth of stuff into a small house nearby, but take note if you have a household to move. And heaven help you if anything gets damaged (which is very common in moves) - looks like you're on your own. *Edit* I was contacted by James of Designed to Move after writing this review and reaching out to Living Social for their help. I was reimbursed for the damage and he explained that it was a clerical oversight; I appreciated finally hearing back from someone at the company. As much as I wanted to give Designed to Move a good review, I'm unable to after the way that they handled our issues following the move. Designed to Move helped us with our move over two months ago in early July. Despite having our move scheduled weeks in advance, the company called us the day before to let us know that they'd have to move our 8:00 AM time slot to a 1:00 PM start time. I informed them that this would be okay, but explained that I had dinner plans scheduled in the evening. The company assured me that the move would be wrapped up in time and that I'd be able to make my prior obligations. Unfortunately, this wasn't the case. The movers showed up two hours after the new start time, forcing us to cancel our dinner plans that we had scheduled weeks in advance. The company offered us a small discount to compensate for the inconvenience, but it still didn't make up for the fact that we were given no advance notice of the company's scheduling and timing issues. Additionally, Designed to Move actually increased the price at which we were originally quoted just days before the move. They took it upon themselves to add another mover to the job, which increased the hourly rate that we were billed. I'm confused about why we weren't originally quoted with this number of movers, but it seems like it was a way to bait and switch us by presenting a low price initially. When the movers did finally arrive, they came unprepared with no tools. Luckily, I had a few tools on hand that they were able to use to disassemble our furniture. However, the movers forgot to bring my tools to the new house, which led to them leaving all of our furniture completely unassembled. We had to sleep on our mattress on the floor and have our guests do the same. The following day, we were forced to drive all the way back to our old house, retrieve our tools, then come home to assemble everything that they should have put together. The biggest issue that we had was in regards to the care of our belongings. We had quite a few items damaged during the move. Our grill cover was torn and our brand new grill was left with a large dent in the stainless steel. I didn't notice this until after the movers left because I assumed they would have been honest and informed me of the damages. Our bar table was also seemingly dragged across the ground, as there were major areas where the finish was scraped off. Designed to Move did ship me a new grill cover, but did nothing to cover the other damages. Additionally, our microfiber couch was torn while being moved out of our basement. I tried numerous times to contact James from Designed to Move about this. After finally getting back to me, he informed me that there was nothing they could do and that the couch "shouldn't have been moved out of the basement" because we installed a drop ceiling after it was brought in. What wasn't mentioned was the fact that the movers actually removed the drop ceiling to get it out of the basement, so it was moved out with the same obstacles that it was moved in. Additionally, the ceiling wasn't even the cause of the tear; it was the door at the top of the stairs. Despite all of these issues, we still took very good care of the movers during the move because we assumed that the problems would be accounted for. We provided generous tips to each mover, bought them pizza and beverages, and provided them with anything else they asked for. I attempted to contact James numerous times after our move to reconcile some of the damaged items. He has not responded to any of my calls, texts, or emails for over a month. The last we spoke, he informed me that he would find someone who could assist with repairing our couch, but he has ignored all of my attempts of contact and never provided us with a reference. I emailed James over a week ago outlining all of these issues and asking if he planned to help, but received no response. I'm incredibly disappointed with my experience with this company. While I thought the movers were kind and down-to-earth, I feel that the company's handling of our issues shows a great deal of unprofessionalism. I'm disheartened that I have to write this review in the first place, since I thought James would have done his best to make these issues right. It has been over a month and he has avoided contact with me at all costs. I'm sure that many others have had great experiences with this company, but I am not one of them. I know that contacting the company is a lost cause at this point, so I am left with writing this review as my only option to warn others of their negligent business practices. Do not hire Designed to Move for your moving needs if reliability, carefulness, or professionalism are important to you. I'd be happy to answer any questions that anyone may have about my experience. I HATE moving. Then the weirdest thing happened... After some price checking and reading Yelping, I called Ben at Designed To Move and scheduled a time to have all the hoardy stuff from my moms storage unit crammed into my basement. He was super polite and informative and had really fast availability. Two days later I met Brian and Jared at the unit. They charge by the hour so naturally I thought these boys would be taking there time, but no, they were litterally running up and down the ramp. They did a better job organizing all this stuff in my basement than I thought possible and to top it all off, they looked like Zach Morris and AC Slater. Babe central. Yesterday was a fun and productive day and now, I LOVE moving. Terrific moving company!! Ben, who booked my move, continued to keep in contact up until move date with confirmations, appliance donation pick-up, which I'll tell you about later and a morning call letting me know that Bryan and Anthony (B&A) were on their way. Speaking of B&A, they were consummate professionals, hard and smart workers and understood everything from the perspective of the customer. That is the way all business should provide service. They pointed out a barely noticeable dent/press into the wall by my armoire during the move which anyone else would hope the customer wouldn't notice...I hadn't...it was that imperceptible. However, having Bryan point it out pointed to their honesty and ethics. My son and daughter-in-law had used a competitor just weeks earlier and thought they were happy with them until they experienced my move using Bryan and Anthony through Designed to Move. They thought I had made the better choice. One of their best features is their help and offer to deliver my old appliances to a donation company. They loaded my old washer/dryer and basement refrigerator and delivered it to St. Vincent de Paul. There were going to leave it on the truck and deliver after my move but ended up booking another job after mine. Ben was trying to arrange pick up of the appliances prior to my move which was not only done but I was not charged for this. Good for Designed to Move and their contribution to the needy of the world. My recommendation of their company comes with the highest opinion on my part. read more

I hired designed to move when I moved about a week ago and they did a great job. The night before my move they called to let me know they would be running a little late in the morning due to a move they were finishing up, which I was very happy about to get a heads up. About 30 mins after they started, 2 other guys showed up to help them and said they had another move after mine they had to be on time for. So I got 2 extra movers for free, which made the move super fast and made me very happy! I gave 4 stars opposed to 5 just because I had trouble getting a confirmation in writing/email before the move of my booking, and it just seemed unprofessional. The move was absolutely awful they stopped in the middle of the move and started unloading my items after I got upset that they were not putting the items in the order that it should be delivered because the items were being delivered to two separate residences. When Jim first arrived he said bring me in and show me where things are going to the first residence or second residence do you think he took notes or tag things saying that they're going to either go to the first residence or second residence. I questioned that he would remember all of it I even said you're never going to remember this? You'll be surprised. Boy was I ever not in a good way. Later I discovered a wall in my house by damaged by them dropping a treadmill down the staircase. They did not tell me the wall was damaged I had to discover by myself. Also they damaged the treadmill and I had to find that out on my own. I asked to obtain their insurance to file a claim I was told by Jim I had signed a waiver of some sort that I have no knowledge about. I was told they already got my signature and kept repeating to read my "contract" (your contract is on the back of a final bill so you never see it till it's too late.) Get a magnifying glass too btw! Jim repeated I have your signature I was lead to believe the time sheet they presented when they arrived for me to sign was a insurance waiver. What a scam. What awful people! And a awful company. Shame on Keller Williams at Lakeside for recommending them. You would think a professional company would have been prepared knowing the day before that they were moving the items to two separate locations to tag the items but they didn't and they wound up screwing up the entire move. I showed discontent Jim said that's fine I can just take everything off the truck and begin moving all of my items off of the truck right then and there it was halfway full of my items his coworker had removed approximately a third of what they put on!! What? I then phoned Rosanne at Keller Williams eho recommended this pretend moving company.... he said in order to continue with the move he was requiring a credit card right then and there before the truck was even full I really could not believe it in retrospect I would have just had them take off my belongings then because by that time they had already wrecked my treadmill and damaged wall without telling me. Unbeknownst to me at the time!! After Roseanne Powell called him he said he would continue the move and was not requiring a credit card. Also would deduct the time and not charge me for the time about 30 minutes or 40 minutes that they unloaded and reload it. What kind of crazy business practice is this anyway you stop moving just because the client is the dissatisfied with the fact you did not follow their directions and that you were unprepared and did not move the furniture properly so that they would be unloaded in the proper places? He said he would take that time off so as not to charge me for their display of childishness sad to say he did not honor his word. When we reached the Final Destination I informed them I did not want them coming into my new home and to just put everything into the garage which took a lot less time. Jim said that I'm still paying for it either way because he added another hour and a half on my bill whether or not I was using the time allowing him to come in or just place my items in the garage he ended up charging a few hundred more than quoted and even he had already wrote a amount on the invoice after he heard my dissatisfaction and only wanting him to move the stuff into the garage and not coming to my home he demanded the credit card then (again for the 2nd time!) and actually told the other mover to stop taking my things off the truck until he gets paid apparently I insulted him by telling him that I stood in my driveway in disbelief. I was told by the state license Committee in Lansing that that is a hostage situation there and is illegal to do they are allowed to ask for payment but then when he asked for payment and I went to get my credit card he's in Jack the bill up $230 more saying that they had to drive back down state for 2 hours at $115 an hour so now my bill went from $762 up to $992? Its a bullying intimidation and extortion and holding my possessions hostage and it is all illegal. We have rights. Call Lansing if they scamned you too. Dont be pushed around by this bully company. I cannot say enough good things about designed to move. I used a cross country pod service to move me and my family from CA to MI. The pod company was terrible and would not deliver our items from the storage facility to our home in a reasonable time. I contacted Designed To Move and they were able to get a two man crew to drive out to the facility unload our stuff, drive it to our home, and unload it. Leo and Billy were professional, fast, and so careful with our stuff. Some items were broken in the cross country move, sk they helped me document all the items. This is the most unorganized, disrespectful company I've ever dealt with. When I requested a quote and was planning the move, response time was almost instant. But on the actual moving day, I couldn't get any sort of response. Movers were hours late, Jim told me that he would have them call me and never did. I had no idea when anyone was going to arrive and then once they did the wrong items were picked up. I was told the items would be dropped off by 3pm, but they didn't arrive til almost 8:30pm. The moving crew was great. Used to move stuff out of my house for sale so that I could stage the remainder, and then used them a week later to move the rest of the items. The moving team was pleasant, easy to work with, and communicated about time for travel, etc. I would recommend that inquiring about their services might best be started by email. James will answer calls promptly, but he is often not at his computer and will have to then get back with you. And things fall through the cracks when that happens. So, confirm appointments etc. I had a good experience, but I was glad that I'd made the extra effort to confirm for my own peace of mind. read more

I was working on finding a moving company just about two weeks before my moving date, which I came to learn was quite a late start (at least around the time I booked). I called several companies who were either full and not flexible about moving times until I called D2M. Pretty quickly, James provided me with an appointment, said the crew should show up around 1-3 PM on moving day, took some information from me, and a few days later sent a confirmation email. Quite quick and simple. I called one week before my moving date to confirm the appointment and to ask questions based on Yelp reviews I read. The most uneasing issue I read about on Yelp was that sometimes the movers are late to the appoint, as late as 5 hours. So, I asked to confirm the 1-3 PM moving time I was told. While I hadn't heard initially, the individual I spoke with said the time was not guaranteed--I was the second move and on average the second move for a given crew arrives at 1-3 PM. I shared I was on a tight schedule and reassuringly, I was told they would do their best to get to me in that time but to call in the AM the day of the move to get a better estimate. Move in day arrived and I was ready to go by the estimated time. Prior to that, I called D2M to get an estimated time and was told that I was the second move and would be reached as soon as possible. Early in the afternoon I called again and several times after--each time I was told a later and later time, to be concise. I waited for the crew as I had no choice but to move that day and no longer had the option of picking up a UHaul and couldn't afford to just lose the $105 deposit. The crew ended up arriving at 10:35 PM, far beyond what I had possibly expected. Turned out, as I learned from a crew member, I ended up being the third move of the day rather than the second as promised, and I don't appreciate that that was incorrectly communicated to me. I would have liked to know I could have been away from my home until 10:30PM rather than sitting around waiting the whole day. The poor planning quite literally wasted my entire afternoon. I was very very happy with the crew. One of them worked to get an additional colleague to help with the move and make it quicker (without charging extra). They were very understanding of my being tired of waiting all day and having spent the morning packing. They worked quickly and did their best to do what I asked for. They took pretty good care of my belongings and even helped me figure out a good layout for my room. Though, I personally think they were overworked and mentioned having 16+ hour days. Pros: If you want a good, hardworking crew, I recommend D2M. Also, there is some flexibility in getting an appointment (though as you can see, you must also be flexible with your time on moving day as well). They came with their own truck and moving gear, which was great. Cons: I lost most of my day waiting for the crew. And, rather than telling me that I wasn't going to be moved until 10:30 PM, D2M told me incorrectly told that I was the second rather than third move--setting the expectation that I'd have a mid-day move slot. read more

Awful. Let me start from the end - I was humiliated today when D2M's owner, Jim/James, instructed his employee to call the police on me after they delivered my family's belongings. We've used five professional moving companies in the past, and I've never encountered anything like this. It all began well. Jim was responsive to my request for an estimate, and provided a quote over the phone to help my wife and three small kids (4y, 2y, 11mos) complete a local move in Bloomfield, inclusive of 2 weeks of storage. While I had debated using PODS and hiring D2M to help load, Jim convinced me that D2M's moving and storage would actually be more cost effective. We had a call prior to the move and he confirmed that his crew would bring boxes and complete partial packing on the day of the move. We scheduled the initial partial pack and load for a Friday. Jim sent a confirmation message the week prior. I took the day off from work and my wife made arrangements to have our kids out of the house (not an easy task with nap schedules). The crew, led by Paris, called and arrived around the indicated start time. However, this is where things began to go wrong. Near immediately, Paris told me that their truck was not large enough and they would need to do two runs back to their warehouse. He also let me know that they brought no boxes with them. After finishing loading the truck at 11am, Paris told me that they would run back to the warehouse and return to finish the second load. He told me that he would call on the way. A few hours passed and no word. I tried calling/texting/emailing Jim and got not response. At around 4pm Paris TEXTED to tell me that they would not be coming back and would need to return on Sunday. I burnt a vacation day to be home for the move. They returned Sunday morning, again with no boxes. Paris used my duct tape to seal boxes I provided, and packed things in our empty laundry baskets. They literally carried some of our clothes/shoes/belongings out wrapped in packing blankets, telling me that the items would be boxed upon return to the warehouse. The crew loaded quickly - maybe a bit too quickly, as they left items behind in the kitchen. I spoke with Jim that Monday, sharing my disappointment with the scheduling and lack of preparedness to complete the packing. He took zero accountability for the mishap, blaming his employees and the fact that he had been out of town without cell phone access for the weekend. He insisted the second half of the move would be better. After noticing an additional charge on my credit card (not specified or pre-empted by Jim), I called him to inquire. He informed me that it was the storage charge - 60% higher than initial storage quote. I paid nearly $1700 for the load and storage. The second half of the move took place today. Jim informed me that the crew would be here by noon. We spoke at 11am, and he updated to say it would be closer to 12:30pm. At 1:15pm, Jim didn't take my call, but called back after I texted "We'll need to have a discussion about payment after your guys unload. Don't charge my credit card". The crew showed up 2+ hours late and short one crew member. At the onset, the guys noted that the rate would need to be adjusted. At the end of the unload, there were a few items damaged and missing. The crew also informed me that our belongings had never been crated in storage (D2M refers to these as "vaults"), despite Jim having told me that the 60% increase in storage charge was due to our things requiring additional vaults. I let the crew know I would not sign off on the final paperwork/payment until discussing with Jim. Once on the phone, Jim refused to make any adjustments and suggested I was making a "power play" now that my things had been delivered. After telling him I wouldn't pay until the bill was adjusted he told me he would call the police and file a small claims case in court before making an adjustment. He then instructed his crew lead to call the police. His crew were embarrassed, as they agreed an adjustment was needed. As we spoke on the phone to the police, I received a notice from AMEX that Jim had charged my card for nearly $1200! The police did nothing more than instruct the crew to have Jim file a small claims case. They did however tell me that if he charged my card without authorization then he committed fraud. I've filed the claim with AMEX and am waiting for the charge to post before going back. I'm willing to pay once Jim acknowledges the damage, missing items, crew size and time cost appropriately in the bill. The crew was nice. But, I would absolutely not recommend D2M based on my dealings with Jim (a sentiment echoed in others' reviews). After unboxing this evening, my wife and I discovered parts missing for ours and our 4 and 2 year old daughters' beds - we're all sleeping on the floor tonight until I can go get parts tomorrow. read more

I read all the reviews and spent a long time deciding which moving company deserved my hard-earned cash, and I finally settled on Designed to Move. They showed up on time (and they were responsive about when they were showing up), but after taking two good long looks at our apartment (which is on a corner and has scant nearby parking) they announced it was going to be "really tough to do." OF COURSE. This is why I was going to PAY THEM MONEY to do it. After spending an hour on the phone with their boss they basically gave me their condolences and said they could come back in two days with another guy, but nothing doing on the day we had scheduled. They did no homework beforehand on how hard the move or the situation would be. They just showed up, decided it was too hard, and left us high and dry. Frankly, I expect a whole heck of a lot more out of professionals. They seemed to have no interest in trying to make the situation work, and once they decided it was a problem they scooted out of there as fast as seemed decent. The only slight bright side is that they didn't charge me a dime for bailing. The only extenuating circumstance that they can use as an excuse is that our location (Ann Arbor) is far from their HQ (Clinton Township). But if that's such a problem that it means that they can't plan in advance and they leave themselves no latitude for mishaps or extra problems -- then they flat out should NOT pretend like they can just show up and adequately do moves in Ann Arbor! If you live in a cul de sac or some perfect residential street that's easy to move out of in the first place, I'm sure these are the guys for you. If you've got a situation that's going to provide the least hint of awkwardness or difficulty, look elsewhere. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. This experience was terrible all around. The movers were and hour and a half late due to weather. Rain in Michigan does not constitute an hour and a half delay. And I had to call to get that answer....15 minutes after my scheduled appointment time. Nobody called to let me know. Then they scratched my freshly painted walls trying to move things into my basement. When they told me my sofa wouldn't fit I instructed them not to move it. Well they tried anyway and tore up my walls. And the response I got was "sorry about your walls". There goes a $6,000 paint job. When I called the owner he tried to blame it on me and told me that they warned me my sofa wouldn't fit. When I sent him pictures of the damage I got no response. So, if the owner doesn't care why would the movers? Oh, and the movers were blasting rap music from their truck at 10am while loading it. Really professional. Still giving this a 1-star due to James incompetence at scheduling. BUT the movers themselves were very very good. If you have nothing but time in your hands and can wait 5 hours past the scheduled time, then I'd recommend this company based on the movers alone. I feel bad for them in the fact they likely catch a ton of flak from dissatisfied customers because their boss can't get scheduling figured out. We made sure to tip them very well. read more

Ok, Moving sucks. Most movers suck. Damaged items, slow, expensive... I've experienced them all. I finally found the needle in the haystack. Designed to Move- Clinton Twp moved my 2 br condo (which included a monster side by side fridge) from Warren to Macomb and I was more than Pleased. Andre arrived on time, worked swiftly and carefully. They handled every item of furniture like it belonged to their own Mother. Though I've moved a lot, this was my first time using movers. Since I had no idea what I was doing, I was definitely a little nervous. I'm so glad I chose Designed to Move, they made the experience painless. Ben, who I spoke to when I arranged things, was really helpful, especially given how last minute I needed them to come. He answered my questions patiently and didn't try to oversell me. I received an e-mail confirmation right away with the costs detailed. On the day of the move, my movers, Eric and Kurt, were great. They called to let me know they were on the way and were right on time. They treated my things with care and were very kind, quick and professional. i cannot tell you how much i use Yelp. The users of Yelp have never steered me wrong. Until now. Contracted DTM for my move last week. We were scheduled between 12-5. We finally call them about 330/4 to ask where they are and they say they are on their way. Finally at 5 we call back to find out where they are. One of their crews have "disappeared", so they are sending a different crew. We were supposed to have 3 guys and 2 showed up. The two guys (Andre and Cash) were super polite and really good and that is why i gave 3 stars and the owner (?) gave us a discount for the trouble. Regardless, i would never use again, which makes me really sad because they have stellar reviews on Yelp. read more

We had these guys move us out of our apartment into our house. They called us 1 hour prior to give us a heads up and arrived on time. A bonus, they had an extra guy with them. The move was smooth and pain free. They were polite and worked quite fast. To top it all off, we asked them to move out a large couch that was left behind in the house by the precious owner. They took an extra 30 mins, took apart doors and moved that couch in pieces and took it to the garbage for us. All without any complaints. I would definitely use them again and recommend them to everyone. read more

These guys did a nice job for my out of state move. I met and interviewed 4 companies, but felt most comfortable with Designed to Move. I liked that they are a small local company and had good reviews on here. Jim Height showed up on time for my in home estimate and followed up with timely emails and phone calls when I had questions. DAMAGED MY FURNITURE. I actually can't imagine a worse moving team. They were 3 hours late (when we were supposed to be the first move of the day). They also warned me that they had to be at another job at 3:00 pm (they didn't get started until 11:15 am). As a result, they were in a hurry the entire time. They were careless and didn't use any protective equipment. When we got to the new house, they opened the truck and boxes were strewn all over (they clearly strapped nothing down). They got stuck half way up the stairs with a dresser and needed a drill to take off the mirror supports--they then dropped the drill on my hardwood stairs. So far, I've found 4 large chunks out of 3 pieces of wood furniture. When I brought it to the movers attention, he said he would talk to his boss. They then offered me a "quarter hour" off (the equivalent of $25). I told him I would talk to his boss about the bill, and I sent the boss pictures. The one worker and the boss were both extremely rude and inconsiderate. Since I spoke to the boss, I've also found several dents in my walls. I called Groupon and they refunded my money (thanks, Groupon, for actually caring about your customer). These guys are cheap and it shows. I would never hire this company again or recommend them to anyone. Only giving 1 star because I can't give 0. Moral of the story: you get what you pay for. Do yourself a favor and hire a reputable moving company. read more

I wish I could give 0 stars. This was back in 2014. Designed to Move canceled on us after I called to find out why they were an hour late. James told me that he found out a few days before that his driver had an "emergency" and couldn't make it. James apparently tried to get a substitute driver, but was unable to find one. He never called us to give us a heads up and didn't bother doing so the day of until I called him to find out where why they were over an hour late. We had to scramble to find other movers that day and it was a nightmare. Just move on to a different movers unless you want to get screwed over by Designed to Move. James/Jim commented and said he didn't remember. It was in October 2014 (so not 2 years ago). I have the e-mails to prove it. We're moving again and your awful experience reminded me that others should know how bad of an experience we had, just like others have commented in their reviews. read more

I was appalled by how the owner of this company spoke to me earlier this evening. A few weeks ago I tentatively made an appointment to have his moving company, move us. I called within 24 hours to cancel. Tonight he called to say that they would be here tomorrow morning, I stated " No, that I had cancelled. He than told me that he would be charging a cancellation fee. When I told him that he better not, he started to berate me and call me names. I am reporting him to the BBB 1st thing Monday morning! read more

I contacted Designed to Move because of all the great reviews here. I had a specialty move for one item. It was a 22 ft 800 lb shuffleboard. They said that they had not done this before but would take it on. I did appreciate the honestly. The 4 guys that came out were all very good and professional. It was a tough move and they also helped me with set up at the new home. These guys will be my main contact guys for my next move. read more

Lousy experience. I got a call last night telling me they had to finish another job from yesterday and they would be late. Looks like they do it often as I see another post with the same story about coming late. I was ALSO supposed to be the first move of the day. I was VERY accommodating. The owner said they'd fix me right up. Once they got to the house to take furniture off of the truck, they got very nasty. Suddenly they could not place the furniture where I asked. I hired a mover because I can't do it myself. I asked for the large stuff to be put in first but nope they had to take all of the small stuff off and then were pissed because there wasn't room to place it. One of the movers started to yell at me and cussed me out. I called the owner, talked to him. He must approve of his employee swearing at customers because he insisted I give him my credit card right then, or they were not finishing. He charged me for 3 hours when it took 2 and said he told me that he charged 3 hour minimum. They could have taken the 3 hours I paid for and put the furniture where I wanted it to go. He did not tell me up front. I asked him what did he mean earlier when he said he'd fix me up, ALLOW his punk mover to swear at me? He should have given me free time , not overcharged me for time not used. The rude one also broke my door frame and my roll top desk. I told them NOT to take out the drawers, they are not removable but they did anyway. I don't think they are in correctly but the one kid did do something to get them in. He probably broke the tracks. I was going to report him to BBB but they are worthless any more. I asked them to wear boot covers, I had them but they refused. The punk said he'd take his shoes off every time. HE LIED. I wish I had read Haileys' review before I hired them , off course I already had them booked. Do NOT use Designed to Move MI, the owner is as rude as his movers and LIED about doing something for me. I told him earlier I was going to cancel earlier this week because I had a bad feeling. To bad I didn't listen to it. read more

Now here is an awesome moving Co. Not only did they come after I fired the one the day before due to rudeness and anger issues they had, but they came the next morn at 9:30. James and Eric were the best. Moving is so stressful especially for us, my hub had quad heart surgery last year and cannot lift heavy or do too much in a row and they were so good. We had not moved in 19 years, we lost our house due to my hubs being sick and off work, so it was not a planned move for the future..Nice , the key word. I asked them on the phone if they were nice first hahaha as to not stress me out after the other fiasco. The had no issues moving the appliances and had no prob with 2 guys getting around the corners. They also stayed within my $$ allowed for moving , which the other would not. Would never recommend this company. 30 minutes before they were suppose to be at my house Jim called to cancel. He said he broke his ankle. I'm sure he had someone helping him.
