DAMAGED MY FURNITURE. I actually can't imagine a worse moving team. They were 3 hours late (when we were supposed to be the first move of the day). They also warned me that they had to be at another job at 3:00 pm (they didn't get started until 11:15 am). As a result, they were in a hurry the entire time. They were careless and didn't use any protective equipment. When we got to the new house, they opened the truck and boxes were strewn all over (they clearly strapped nothing down). They got stuck half way up the stairs with a dresser and needed a drill to take off the mirror supports--they then dropped the drill on my hardwood stairs. So far, I've found 4 large chunks out of 3 pieces of wood furniture. When I brought it to the movers attention, he said he would talk to his boss. They then offered me a "quarter hour" off (the equivalent of $25). I told him I would talk to his boss about the bill, and I sent the boss pictures. The one worker and the boss were both extremely rude and inconsiderate. Since I spoke to the boss, I've also found several dents in my walls. I called Groupon and they refunded my money (thanks, Groupon, for actually caring about your customer). These guys are cheap and it shows. I would never hire this company again or recommend them to anyone. Only giving 1 star because I can't give 0. Moral of the story: you get what you pay for. Do yourself a favor and hire a reputable moving company. read more

I was appalled by how the owner of this company spoke to me earlier this evening. A few weeks ago I tentatively made an appointment to have his moving company, move us. I called within 24 hours to cancel. Tonight he called to say that they would be here tomorrow morning, I stated " No, that I had cancelled. He than told me that he would be charging a cancellation fee. When I told him that he better not, he started to berate me and call me names. Lousy experience. I got a call last night telling me they had to finish another job from yesterday and they would be late. Looks like they do it often as I see another post with the same story about coming late. I was ALSO supposed to be the first move of the day. I was VERY accommodating. The owner said they'd fix me right up. Once they got to the house to take furniture off of the truck, they got very nasty. Suddenly they could not place the furniture where I asked. I hired a mover because I can't do it myself. I asked for the large stuff to be put in first but nope they had to take all of the small stuff off and then were pissed because there wasn't room to place it. One of the movers started to yell at me and cussed me out. I called the owner, talked to him. He must approve of his employee swearing at customers because he insisted I give him my credit card right then, or they were not finishing. He charged me for 3 hours when it took 2 and said he told me that he charged 3 hour minimum. They could have taken the 3 hours I paid for and put the furniture where I wanted it to go. He did not tell me up front. I asked him what did he mean earlier when he said he'd fix me up, ALLOW his punk mover to swear at me? He should have given me free time , not overcharged me for time not used. The rude one also broke my door frame and my roll top desk. I told them NOT to take out the drawers, they are not removable but they did anyway. I don't think they are in correctly but the one kid did do something to get them in. He probably broke the tracks. I was going to report him to BBB but they are worthless any more. I asked them to wear boot covers, I had them but they refused. The punk said he'd take his shoes off every time. HE LIED. I wish I had read Haileys' review before I hired them , off course I already had them booked. Do NOT use Designed to Move MI, the owner is as rude as his movers and LIED about doing something for me. I regret to say I cannot remember the name of one of my two movers, the other was named Ryan, but both the guys I had did a fantastic job. I have moved myself about 11 times in the last 10 years, so i made sure that i packed everything and put it all in a central location for them to get to. I had mainly half furniture, half boxes, all together about a 2 bedroom/2bath apartment full with lawn mower, grill and snow blower. The guys never stopped and got done in record time. I knew i didnt have a huge load but they loaded up the truck, drove to the new house and unpacked in a little over 2 hours! Brian scheduled me and did a great job with communication, estimate time and confirmation email. I moved on a saturday so rates were higher then during the week, nothing bank breaking and worth every cent. For my local move they were great and perfect, thank you so much! read more

I needed a moving service to transfer a carpet from a storage facility to my home in a neighboring city. Every company I had contacted before Designed to Move were more expensive then the job warranted in my opinion. Then I got an email from Jim at Designed to Move through Home Advisor and he said he could move the carpet the following day at the minimum price because he was already working in the area. Bingo it was a deal. They came on time and placed the carpet where directed. Two great guys were as accommodating as could be. I really like the movers, but...... I had to store my things since I sold my house 2 months before I bought another one. The contents of my entire 2500 square foot house was placed in their care. While the movers were quite personable, the care shown my things was not. Of my 6 upholstered pieces, my velvet sofa was torn, my mid century chairs were dirty and one was punctured. My Thomasville armoire was chipped very badly. I called several times , speaking to Brian and "the owner" , I was guaranteed that they would check out the pictures and call me back. I was also told, when I complained of missing things, that could not possibly happen. But it did happen, and I am missing quite a few of my things. The office did call me, and asked if I had an extra set of mattresse s I replied no, and that I was still missing items, no on was interested in my missing things. I am waiting to hear back from them once more. My furniture was expensive and I thought it would be cared for by this company. I guess not. Will I ever recommend Designed to Move? 2 years after our move, still waiting on the reimbursement for our broken microwave. We moved from one apartment to the other, all in Ann Arbor. There was bad weather that day so the guys were a bit late, that's okay. e had three guys, don't remember the names but one of them hardly lifted a thing, suggested we brake and get rid of my husband's desk when it proved to hard to disassemble/take out of the room and just all around was unpleasant; rolled his eyes at me when I asked to reposition our bed in the room once carried in. All I asked was to turn in. We've called multiple times and left messages about the microwave, but to no avail. Would've given a better review otherwise, but that's just super not professional in my book. Not recommended. read more

Giving this outfit one star is generous - Zero star is more like it. They failed in every aspect of our recent move. I was promised a five man crew and the move would be completed in one day. The first fellow showed up late, and with no helpers, stating the rest of the crew would arrive shortly. Four others showed up a half hour later, but the original fellow promptly quit! The four movers began the job, but after a long lunch two of the movers left the job! Now we were down to a two man crew. They did the best they could but it was obvious they wouldn't complete the job in one day. After talking to the owner, he promised they'd complete the job the next afternoon and arrive after lunch. Well I guess 3:30 PM is "after lunch," when they showed up to complete the move. We noticed several pieces of furniture damaged - One desk was severely damaged. Two pieces of jewelry mysteriously vanished from one dresser. My success in contacting the owner has been very difficult. He will return phone calls - If you pursue him. Emails to him go unanswered. After discussing the damages and missing items with him, he offered a paltry amount to cover the loss. I'm still waiting for him to make good on his offer. Bottom line: If you value your possessions, DO NOT use this company. They are careless and management has no clue about their crews in the field. read more

These guys bailed on us halfway through our move. They booked us for a 0.5-1 hour time slot, even though I have the yelp messages describing exactly what I had in my 1 bedroom apartment, with the owner of the company writing that we'd be booked for the 2 hour minimum. We hired them to carry our boxes/furniture down and pack our 6x12 Uhaul trailer. The two movers were genuinely sorry and stayed for 2 hours total after a lot of begging on our end, but in that time, they were only able to move a few pieces of heavy furniture, large hanging frames, and the mattress/box spring. Past moves have gone much faster in my experience, and it seems like if your time estimate was off, you should stay until the move is done? We were left with the bed frame, all 20+ boxes, and smaller pieces of furniture to move and pack ourselves. Luckily, 3 friends came to our rescue and the 5 of us spent the next 2 hours moving everything down and packing the trailer ourselves. We managed to fit everything, but the day was pretty hellish. I really wish we had gone with a different moving company. My realtor has added them to his "do not recommend" list for future clients. read more

We had three guys move and pack most of our stuff, including a piano recently. If I could give them four and a half starts I would. Most of the service was really good, the team leader was very friendly and accommodating. Price was reasonable. I'm withholding the fifth star for two reasons: one of the members of the team, while not rude at all, was a tiny bit surly. He kept telling his partners to use the company's materials instead of the packing paper we supplied so they could charge us. He also seemed to get into some disagreements with the team leader in front of us. Not cool. The other negative was a scuff they left in our wood floor while moving our piano. Although they were very careful and once they realized they had scuffed the floor they immediately changed their method and actually ended up picking our piano up and moving it to protect the floor. Overall we were very happy with the service and I have already recommended them to a friend of mine who is moving. read more

After a horrendous experience with a moving company a couple years back, I have been particularly wary of deals that seem too good to be true. I am happy to report that in the case of Designed to Move, I was 100% wrong! The pricing was very reasonable, there were no magically appearing fees at the end of job, and best of all were the moving staff. Dennis and Andre were by far the best movers I have had in at least half a dozen professional moves. They were professional, courteous, and respectful of my stuff and house. They worked hard to complete the job quickly and were a pleasure to deal with. Designed to Move was a fantastic experience from start to finish - as far as moving goes. read more

We used Designed to Move to move from Trenton to Farmington, 4 guys and 2 trucks. Jim was accommodating and professional. The real stars were Dimonte, Billy, Gage, and Dylan. They did a fabulous job. They were polite, conscientious, and hard-working. They worked in a less than ideal situation: pouring rain and other movers moving the previous owner out while we were moving in, yet they handled it with professionalism and a sense of humor. My review is super late but I had to comment on the exemplary service I received from this company on January 26, 2013. I hate moving! I had only been in my townhouse a year when the property owner decided to raise the rent almost three hundred dollars. I had no choice, we had to move. Given I had just moved the previous February and it was a complete disaster doing it ourselves, we were in no mood to go through that experience again. I priced several companies and Designed to Move won our business. The owner was very courteous over the phone, unlike a lot of companies your call for a quote, and asked me several questions about how much we were moving to give the best estimate of time. I am grateful we chose them because I have never moved so fast in my life. Andrew and Parish (its been a while, not sure if that is their exact names) were awesome. Please ask for them if they are still available, they were very professional and timely. They walked in and accessed my home and got right to work. I had everything in shrink wrap and disassembled to help the process go much faster. They started promptly at 8:30am and were done by 11:15am. Every time we move ourselves, it is almost a 24 hour process. We had no major appliances but we did have very large, heavy living room and bedroom furniture.On top of that, it snowed pretty hard the night before. Another plus was they accepted credit cards with a small processing fee (we are not a cash carrying family). I will never move myself again and as long as Designed to Move stays in business, they will be our go-to moving company to get the job done. read more

Designed to Move left us high and dry. We scheduled a two-man crew on a Sunday for moving seven heavy pieces of furniture, including a new washer and dryer. Once the movers arrived, one of their employees, Russ, started complaining about the stairs because we lived on a second and third-story apartment. The employee started moving the washer on a dolly and I asked him to carry it down the front stairs with the second crew member instead of rolling it down the stairs. Russ became extremely angry, told me not to tell him how to do his job, and walked off the job. We have never been treated so rudely in our entire lives. If Designed to Move had put this issue right, we would not be leaving such a negative review. We immediately called Designed to Move and informed them what happened. It was approximately 9:00am. The owner promised to send a new crew out that afternoon between 3:00 and 4:00. We called the company several times during the afternoon and never got through. At 3:00 the owner told us that they would not be able to move us that day because they had their entire crew at another job. The owner had sent two additional employees to the four-man crew job instead of sending them over to complete our relatively simple move (it took the moving company we hired less than two hours total). The owner offered to move us Monday during the day and it was only after insisting we could not move during the work day that they agreed to move us at 6:00. The owner did agree to knock 10% off the bill for the inconvenience. We were very disappointed with the treatment we received from Designed to Move and I would strongly recommend not using them. read more

DTM had trouble with their truck and could not even start my move on a Saturday. We arranged childcare and our schedules and basically wasted 6 hours on a beautiful summer Saturday as a result. Thank goodness our situation wasn't a "must be out" one. For many people moving is a big deal, stressful and time sensitive. I wasn't impressed by DTMs back up capability. read more

After a mediocre experience with another local company, we used D2M for the second half of our local move. All three guys were polite, efficient, and professional. They introduced themselves to our group, they confirmed what we were moving and our timeframe, they moved quickly and carefully (at a few points they were running back and forth), and after they were finished they checked back twice to see if we wanted anything rearranged. Overall, a vast improvement over our first experience and money well spent. read more

We chose this company for our local move because the estimate was almost half of other companies. Unfortunately, their estimate was way off and we ended up paying more than we would have with another company which would have used only 1 trip instead of 2 they ended up. Employees must make also sure that they agree on a lie before saying it... the responsible said he did not sent the truck because he did not believe 2 trips were needed (which was not correct) while the movers told us that the other truck was in maintenance. read more

Most unprofessional business I have ever encountered. They took 4 days to move a 2 day job. They stole my beer and food, and showed up at the new house smelling of alcohol. They damaged my old basement and my new basement. They damaged 2 boxes of Waterford crystal that my late husband and i received for our wedding. They left furniture outside at my old residence, along with keeping all the doors open for strangers to help themselves to my belongings. The list of horrific experiences them go on and on. The owner did not apologize or take responsibility for his crews actions. I would not recommend their service to my worst enemy. read more

I hired Designed To Move for a simple 3 mile move, and it has been an absolute nightmare. The owner stated I needed 3 movers for a 2nd floor condo, when other moving companies were quoting me for only two movers. Given Designed To Move's Groupon offering, the cost ended up being about the same, so I elected to go with 3 movers for extra precaution. Unfortunately, the very thing I was paying the movers to avoid - damaged belongings - is exactly what I was left with. I was also charged a full additional hour for going over 20 minutes. The company has done nothing to remedy the situation. I would not recommend Designed To Move to anyone. The crew showed up half an hour late, and damaged a significant portion of my belongings. I ended up with a dented stainless steel fridge door, broken granite on kitchen backsplash piece, big scratch on a wood desk, veneer peeled on TV stand, a dented armoire corner, and worst of all, they scratched my wood floors on my new home with the refrigerator. I have a home inspection report which shows NO damage to the wood floors, before anything was in the house, however, the moving company refused to acknowledge that they did the damage. The owner came to my house to inspect the damage, stated he would pay $.60 per pound on the fridge (which does not cover even 1/3 of the cost of a replacement fridge door), and told me to glue my granite, and color my floors, TV stand, and desk with a wood repair marker! This is a high-end custom home, and the solutions presented are simply unacceptable! I easily have over $2k in damage from using this company. It has been over 5 weeks since the move, and I still have not received any compensation for the damage incurred. This company is completely unprofessional - DO NOT USE IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR BELONGINGS. read more

They were 4 hours late, very slow to load, unprofessional, damaged leather couches because they didn't feel like removing the feet or pillows that would have prevented tearing while forcing them through doors, the same with temperpedic mattress and Box springs, should have covered with blankets instead they drug them on the floors and through doorways causing tears in the fabric. They also claim to honor all deals but charge you more and take lots of breaks so that it takes more time to load and cost more. This company refused to respond when notified of poor service and damage to our property. If you value your time, money and belongings do not use this company. read more

My experience with this company was crappy! They were two hours late and I had to keep calling them to see where they were. They said they would send an extra guy to speed things up, but did not do so. They said they were late becasue they had the wrong address and had to gas up. Then they used a half hour (that I paid for) to gas up for the 10 mile trip after loading up my stuff. The driver gave a minimal discount for our trouble. I called the owner the next day and he made excuses ("Sunday is a hard day to get people to work", etc. The owner said that next time, I would have a better experience. Are you kidding? They are the worst movers.. I had to move quick and the previous movers i had moved with was unavailable so had to go with these people. They do not provide full insurance without charging you more ($500) and the drivers did not carry license to drive and they are moving my stuff. They broke my couch and table and said the insurance is per pound and if you want full insurance you need to pay 500 to cover everything.. As I did not take the full insurance earlier they paid me $120 for $1500 worth of items.. They say no hidden charges and the statement they sent me said $75 for cancellation and they charged $75 even when I moved with them and said it was a one time fee which covers the time and the fuel the drivers start from their home. read more

This company is phenomenal, I have used 4 different moving companies in the last 6 years and i have finally found one who i will not only use again but who i would refer my friends and family too. Being that my family and i move so much i would like to consider myself a veteran to the process, I wont name any of the other companies that i have used but i will compare Designed to Move to my past experiences with those companies. First thing i noticed once contacting Designed to Move to get an estimate was that my opinion mattered and they were honest and straight forward with the estimate. I will explain what i mean with that statement, other companies that i have used in the past would give me a low over the phone estimate to acquire my business then on the actual day of the move the bill would be much higher then the estimate. I understand and have no problem paying a company for there work, but when they purposely give me a low estimate just to acquire my business it made me felt taken advantage of, also most companies tell you what crew you HAVE to use along with taking an inventory list, and if you try to have the crew move anything not on there list watch out for hidden charges. So when talking with Designed to Move to get the estimate i was pleasantly surprised, i listed the items and details about the move and in return i was given OPTIONS on which crew size and hourly rate i wanted to pay. Although i went with the crew size they suggested it felt good to be able to choose for once. After the crew size was established i was given a worse case scenario on the amount if time that my move would take, which was different than i was used to and made me feel like they were actually being honest with me instead of just trying to acquire my business. On the actual day of the move the crew arrived, i showed them the items that were to be moved and once i signed the paperwork it was off to the races. The crew leader was Andre and the other helpers were Mike, Paris and Ken, these guys are the real reason i am writing this review, i have never met such hard working, polite, and honest individuals. Not only was i pleased with there work but my lovely wife was also impressed and she is one tough critic. Especially since our prior experiences with other company's crew would always turn out horrible. I can recall dealing with lazy, rude movers who not only would take breaks all the time but wouldn't rearrange furniture when my wife would ask or attempt certain things going upstairs under the guise of "not fitting". Previously i had to have my son and I carry some of our heaviest furniture up the stairs because the "professionals" wouldn't. Moving is stressful enough and if you add a jerk crew in there it makes it 10 times worse. With Designed to Moves crew everything was taken care of wonderfully, they happily rearranged furniture for my wife up to 3 times!! And I am certain they wouldn't have had a problem rearranging the items another 3 times if we had asked, also our Amour would not fit up the stairs but instead of just looking and saying "its not going to fit" they attempted it many different ways and even let me make some suggestions and explain each time where the issue was. Needless to say it didn't make it up the stairs but i could say confidently that aside from tearing the wall down there was no way it was going to fit and the crew did everything possible in there attempt which showed my family and I that they cared. Although there was some minor damage during the move, which when you move as often as we do its almost expected for some damage to occur, that being said the crew pointed out the damaged piece immediately, literally as they were carrying it through the front door. It was a cheap IKEA bookshelf so i wasn't that surprised, what i was surprised about was there honesty, the trend from past experiences with moving company's is that they try to hide the damage or deny that they were a part of it. My favorite response I've gotten after discovering damage, is "we didn't do that" or "that was already like that". The owner of Designed to Move called me before the crew was even finished offering a discount for the damage, my wife was kicking me after but i refused compensation, i was just grateful that we had found this rare gem of a moving company who saw us as a family and not just money in there pocket. Its been a week since the move all the boxes are unpacked and no other damage has been found on any other furniture or items that were in the boxes. So not only did we have a great experience with this company but we also have started referring anyone who will listen about these guys. I almost forgot to mention that the total bill was less then the estimate by nearly $150.00 which was just the icing on the cake, Thank you Designed to Move for the great experience and we look forward to using you for all our future moves. read more

At first dealing with them was a fine experience. We communicated via phone and email. they were due to come out on Sunday afternoon. This is an eastide company and we were in Westland Mi. I am told I will hear an hour before our window for a specific ETA. I had to set up for people to be at the house because I had a family event the morning of. The window was 12-5. I dont hear anything at 12, or 1, or 2. I get a call at 2 saying the morning move took longer than expected and they will be there at 3:30. I am told due to a death in the family the moving crew was short handed. They said they will be providing a 3 man crew for the price of 2. No problem. I let the people waiting for the movers know. 3:30 my phone rings saying that the truck was in an accident amd the truck damaged. He said they could not rent a u-haul on Sunday and asked if the move could be moved to Monday. I agree, because an accident isnt the fault of the company. I am assured that the truck will there Monday morning at 9:00 am. I explain a walk thru is taking place and people took time off work to be there monday. He said that they would send their existing truck and rent a u-haul for the other job scheduled on MOnday. Monday comes, my Dad cancels an appointment to be there. 9 am, no call no truck, 9:30 no call no truck. I call the office and get voice mail. 9:45 hear nothing, call again and get Brian. Brian informs me that they are in the process of getting the U-haul. I point out to Brian that I was promised they would use the existing truck and that they would be there at 9: 00 am sharp. It is now 9:45, they dont have the truck yet and still have to drive from the east side to the west side (easily an hour long drive, probably longer). I understand unforseen circumstances occur (like the accident) but I do not understand why they did not hold to their promise of being there at 9:00 am. If a customer is willing to be flexible, I would expect the company to go above and beyond. We ended up cancelling, getting family to leave work and renting a u-haul ourselves. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND NOT DOING BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY. read more
