I spoke to Clarence who identified himself not as the owner but as the manager (more on that later). The initial Red Flag was during the conversation I mentioned the need for certain documentation from him to go forward (Basically licensing information, and Insurance Information) as asking for a Certificate of Insurance (COI) is INDUSTRY STANDARD for a move like this. I received IMMEDIATE Push Back and was told that I didnt need said information and that I could get his licensing and bonding information from LARA (Michigan Licensing And Regulatory Affaris) which I did: [Federal License: They hold a valid federal license under USDOT #2303845] and their other license [They are registered as a domestic profit corporation in Michigan (ID: 800705051)] What i couldn't get is Bonding and or the COI ...which i need to protect ny inventory and myself from damage, and or loss. As I said this is Industry standard. I explained this to Clarence and was told that I would recieve that information at a later time after further discussions. Fast forward I talked to Clarence yesterday to confirm that he would recieve an inventory list by no later than close of Business today 5/8/2026 !! He's assured me at the time of our last phone call that that was suitable. We stayed late into the evening yesterday creating an itemized inventory list for Clarence.....only to be told today that he couldn't do it because he has another big move scheduled for "The Government" i dont know how true this is but I find it highly suspicious that 1) he did t call this morning to let us know that he couldn't complete the move which most assuredly could be the case......but in the name of professionalism and the time we have spent on the phone wouldn't it be standard to let us know? Secondly in MY OPINION I think he didnt like the verbiage that was used in the inventory email j. That it specifically asked again for the COI, and ending information as is STANDARD in this business. in our first conversation he told me that he had never been asked for that type of information before and I explained to him at that point, that when doing business with multi million dollar businesses you have to do everything right, he then went kn to tell me how many rich people from the lions and mentioned doing a move for the Taubman estate etc....which is fine but asking for a COI is standard......I feel as if Clarence is operating without being Bonded or without the proper insurance to protect not only the belongings of my company but of anybody he is moving. Again this is my opinion based off of my conversations with him and his subversive responses. He may very well have these very important documents and insurance im not saying that he doesn't what I am saying is that people need to be careful. He has cause me to lose valuable time. I did however call another moving company who gave me without question the documents that I asked for and I am looking forward to this move albeit at a higher price than expected. I would simply like to remind Mr. Clarence (Still dont know why he didnt identify himself as the owner instead of making it appear as he was someone else employed there) thay doing good business is paramount to being g considered great in the business world I own a Mortage company and a Real Estate Brokerage the referrals alone could have netted you a an upwards of six additional figures a year... but you moved Mr. Taubman so maybe you didnt need the business we could have thrown your way. People be very careful and cross all "T's" and dot all "I's" Time was wasted here and after reading the reviews on here and on Google as well as further research I now understand why MY Response to His Response: Sir at NO TIME, ot ONCE, have said anything Negative about YOU or Your Business what I did HONESTLY and EFFECTIVELY was communicate my experience with your business. What I did attempt to do is offer some of what I hoped would be deemed as valuable feed back from one Black Business owner to another. As far as me claiming to be a CEO I never stated that; What I DID say was that I am a success bussineman. As far as me being a disgruntled ex or former employee... sir I can surely attest to you that we do not know each other nor have we ever met outside of the few conversations that we had. What I can tell you is this: I tried to use this as a learning experience for you,your business and for the consumer who doesn't think about things like insurance that movers are supposed to have when moving their belongings personal or professional and what amount of liability is covered in the case of property being damaged, lost or stolen and how to protect themselves as well as trying to help you with the refinement of your communication skills. And one more thing---as to threatening some 'white man who I don't know'...... Clarence Joe Nelson inappropriately involved his 'friend' indicating that his 'friend' was going to charge me $2300 for delivering my medical property that had NEVER been placed in climate controlled storage. Clarence Joe Nelson lied on his 'friend' who had no involvement and who I trust runs a reputable business. Unsure why Clarence Joe Nelson has to specify his friend's race as that should not be an issue in friendship, in business or in the world in general. As importantly, friends should not tell lies on friends. Clarence Joe Nelson, you know your 'friend' did not say what you alleged he said. Respect that man and keep his good name out of your bad mouth. Update--same day! I'm so glad that Clarence Joe Nelson is now confessing all of his lies. Perhaps he is not a hopeless case??? As long as he was overcharging me, being a bully and just outright lying while doing a money grab each month, there was no problem. Clarence Joe Nelson has written a lot that can be distracting and a bit humorous. The fact is that he was paid for a job, did it improperly and lied about it. At no time did he have permission to leave my property in a moving truck. Perhaps this is special service for friends and family? It seems he's told so many lies that he's believing them himself. Rather than resolving this matter, he digs his heels deeper into the mire of his own creation, all while attempting to sully the good name of those he 'loves'. What CJN is driven by is avarice, false pride, and an unhallowed disregard for the truth and righteous behavior. He awakens to spew lies from his mouth and to manipulate and bully anyone who he can--especially if you happen to be a woman. Doing what is right and just is a foreign concept to him. It shouldn't be, because he was taught better. I know he was. He has chosen to secure himself in a house of lies that is impervious only to the truth. Yes, I am a doctor as CJN keeps emphatically stating. However, my area of expertise is not in diagnosing those with serious mental challenges. As Clarence Joe Nelson continues to post in this format, certainly several diagnoses for which I really think he needs to seek treatment do come to mind. I chuckle when thinking that the last time I encountered anyone who could match Clarence Joe Nelson in lying was when I was in I was in 8th grade. Perhaps CJN is still there mentally. Update 10/08/2025: For each lie Clarence Joe Nelson (CJN) and Top Notch posts, I'll post the truth. Move date--7/2023. I've posted a pix of a text from CJN (dated 9/02/2025) confessing that he has kept my medical items in his truck--not in storage. As indicated, I paid 710/month for one year then a minimum of $1000/mo for 13 months up thru 7/2025 only to find out CJN lied about having my items in storage. We are in agreement on one matter--he should feel stupid because stupid is as stupid does. When a business owner has the audacity to cheat a customer and then attempt to disparage their reputation, that's a really, really stupid move. Update 10/07/2025: Unfortunately this issue has not been resolved, but has deteriorated. My personal and professional property is now being held hostage and the owner, Clarence Joe Nelson, is making threats of taking some unreasonable action against me although he is 100% in the wrong and admitted he did not fulfill the contract---I've got proof if anyone is interested. Freedom of information is a good thing. I'm gagged at the fact that at the time of my move, I rewarded the owner with a hefty $$$ tip. He deserves the 2025 "SHAME ON YOU AWARD"! Requested packing up my medical office and home items and storage of all items in a climate controlled environment. The home packing went well. The office pack up was unsupervised and many items were left. I had to hire another mover to pack and store the remaining items. I've been paying a hefty price over the past 24 months to store my items, only to have the owner of Top Notch, Clarence Joe Nelson, disclose to me that he never off loaded my medical office equipment into storage, but has kept them on his moving truck all this time. Update, Let me start by saying - my family has used these guys MANY MANY times prior to this move last Tuesday (06/22/2021).... Let's start with the nice young lady on the phone - who quoted $495 for the first 3 hours, then $125/hr thereafter. They get to my house - 3 of the 4 at 9am, and the rate on the sheet went from $125/hr to $175/hr. Then 10:40am, the 4th kid shows. This was a multi location move WHICH they knew when I contracted them. Long story short - they damaged furniture - they piled my furniture into their truck like it was garbage AND THE ROOF OF THE TRUCK... had HOLES IN IT - WE HAD A DOWN POUR.... Then, one of their guys Chuck - he had his phone stuck to his ear for a great part of the morning UNTIL I had to say something..... 2 guys standing around watching the other 2 guys work.... Long story short.... location 1: moved out a bedroom set and a chairlift. location 2: moved a two bedroom, dining room, living room, garage and basement. location 3: unload part of it in storage Remainder went back to location 1. Then, I'm taking items from location 2 and was going to load my person 2020 Jeep - when I went into my home to get more items, I came out and Chuck (yes, same guy on his phone), he went and loaded my truck - NEVER asked him to - well, he takes this oversized box, that had paintings sticking out.... Yep, he crams it into the seat and tore my lining on the roof of my Jeep..... Clarence (owner) has Troy (General Manager) offer me $100 to settle what will cost thousands more to repair. NOW, I've had to retain my lawyer for this and the damage to my furniture. The owner Clarence is the problem - he is bombastic and ego centrical, he clearly has no idea what customer satisfaction is. I will NEVER use these guys again.... I am truly disappointed, because I referred these guys to everyone. Troy, the general manager is AWESOME, he really should leave and start his own company..... Our move to Ann Arbor was complicated. I'll spare you the details. What wasn't complicated was dealing with Top Notch Moving Solutions. In fact, it was so surprisingly easy, I was kind of taken aback by just how quickly and smoothly we were able to schedule a team of movers to unpack our twenty foot U-Haul and take those boxes into our home. The only thing that made me a little nervous was that we pre-paid for the two hour minimum, but I was told that if the move took longer, I would have to pay the difference in cash. But that was no big deal. I just went to the bank, and got a wad of cash. Because I figured there was no way the truck could be emptied in under two hours. Do you know how long it took Troy, CJ, and TJ to do the job? One hour! They were fantastic, and I tipped them accordingly. The phone support of the company was equally fantastic, not just when I booked the service, but confirming the day in advance. When I called I talked to Clarence (always good to see the big boss picking up a call from customers) - he was pleasant and easy to talk to. We went over what we wanted moved. He offered us 3 guys, a truck and 3 hours for under $500. This was better than what the other moving companies offered so we went with them. Now that they've moved us - I can positively say we made the right decision. Kieth, Jermaine and Troy were right on time. Gave them a tour of our condo and went room by room of what we wanted moved and they got straight to work. They took very good care of all our stuff from packing it up to unloading it and everything in between. As they were unloading our stuff - I went to setup a cheap folding table which broke. Jermaine took a look at it and said he'd fix it for me! To be clear - the table is cheap and didn't unfold like it should have. This was no fault of the movers - and they didn't have to bother with it but sure enough - before they left that table was together and folded out just as it should be. Definitely above and beyond with the level of service. Easy 5 stars. If you need a moving company to move your stuff - hire them. They're worth it and will take care of you. read more

Despite some logistics issues with my storage units (having 2 different delivery addresses) they had the trucks ready to go, helped us pack leftover stuff, and overall it was as low stress as you could expect. I entrusted my recent move to Top Notch and was left throughly dissatisfied. They ruined my basement floor and will not take responsibility for it. The basement carpet was installed just before the move. 20 or so boxes were directed to the basement, the other boxes went to the main floor. Days after the move, I finally made it to the basement where I noticed that the newly installed carpet was ripped near the end of the stairs and proceeding to half way across the length of the basement. A representative was sent out. He wasn't of any help to me at all. I sent pictures to Brianna, one of the sales reps, as she requested, she never acknowledged receiving them. I had to ask the representative to take pictures of the area. I waited almost a week to receive and response, never did. I called Brianna and she stated that the rep said the the floor was dirty and old. That is a lie and also is irrelevant even if that was the case (which is wasn't), regardless of how they "think" the floor looks, they should still treat my floor with care. She also stated that the claim was denied!!! I never even received a write up or anything, just a verbal denial. See pictures of my damaged carpet attached. The owner just in the past hour lost his mind and threatened me because they only take cash or check except for deposit. ? and the banks are closed and I did not know what the total would be because it is by hour. Finally a moving company without drama. They notified me when they were on the way (as opposed to my last experience where I waited 5 hours bf anyone called) and arrived on time. They were VERY careful with my items and wrapped everything loose or fragile despite onky having to move the items 1 mile. The charge included the cost of the truck and travel (from Livonia). There are Ann Arbor companies charging travel for local moves. My storage was moved to my garage and the movers created rows so that I could access my items. They were respectful and professional. I have used many moving companies. For my large jobs, will use Top Notch again. My only issue, which may be true of all moving companies, is that additional insurance coverage should be addressed at the time of booking. I've had the bad experience with another company of having the price of my move double upon delivery while the movers held my items hostage (in Ann Arbor) so I'm very sensitive to any talk of additional fees at the time of delivery. Ryan understood and contacted the owner for me who explained the insurance bit. It was no big deal. These men are great. The guys from Top Notch arrived on time and got right to work. Wrapped up our two couches in the moving blankets we provided and shrink plastic they provided. I had partially disassembled our pool table and decided that we not be able to move the VERY heavy slate pieces up from the basement. The guys wrapped the slate and moved the three pieces up the stairs and into the POD we rented for the move. I was planning to complete the process of taking the table apart, but they did it for me. Wrapped up the pieces and moved those as well. Then they packed a garage full. I was concerned that it all wouldn't fit, but one of the guys (Troy?) arranged pieces like he was playing Tetris and we had room to spare. Very polite, very professional. I hired this company last year after selling my home. I was fooled by the good customer service. They were fast and efficient and took time to wrap my items that I was putting in a nearby storage. Once my apartment was ready for move-in, I hired them again, and soon discovered during the move in process that several of my items were damaged. They mishandled my new chrome faced refrigerator and left large dents and scratches. They terribly scuffed up my acrylic dining chairs and a black credenza. When I brought it to their attention, they put black marker on the deep scratches on my black lacquer credenza in an attempt to cover the damage, and promised compensation for my fairly new refrigerator that was in perfect condition before I hired them. They do not accept Zelle or any type of electronic pay. The company tells the workers to make sure they are paid with cash or a check. Before paying them, I wanted to confirm that I was going to be paid for the damage to my refrigerator so I called the company to reach out to the bosses. When the workers witnessed me calling their place of employment, they became very belligerent, loud, profane, and threatening to me in my apartment. I am a recently widowed woman and was shocked by their very ignorant, nonprofessional actions. I'm not used to this type of reaction from a business that I'm patronizing. or any professional!! It wasn't until they realized I was talking to their boss that they lowered their tone and somewhat calmed down. I paid them for that job and waited a few days on conpensation that was promised to me by the owner of the business. I never received it. DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY unless you're ready to deal with a bunch of loud, bullying, nonprofessionals. Be careful who you let in your home. UPDATE: The company owner, Clarence commented below. Update: I am not posting this review to attack a "minority owned company". That had NOTHING to do with my review and I never once mentioned race. Also, I NEVER received a post move survey. I checked my call log and voicemails and the only voicemail I have is on November 1st from Breanna confirming my time and date of move. Also, I never "requested" a certain number of men. I told you what I had and people showed up. Please do not accuse me of lying, and I would appreciate my phone not being blown up multiple times a day because I shared my story. If you want to rectify the situation there are better ways to handle it than by posting a strongly worded, somewhat intimidating, response. This does not make me want to talk to you on the phone. was really pleased with the response time by the owner and the ability to fit me in quickly, but the rest left much to be desired. When they arrived it was raining, but I had saved them the first spot closest to the door. I lived on the second floor and it was a 1 bedroom apartment. The 3 men moving my items reeked of smoke so much that my entire apartment smelled. I purposely hired movers because the items were too big for me, but I felt terrible because they all seemed out of breath going up and down carrying my stuff. I had to assure hem the next stop was all single story. At one point, a mover helped himself to my bathroom without even asking! Then, another mover asked for a bottle of water. Of course I would have allowed for both, but I was quite surprised. I was assured everything would be done within the time frame paid for so I was confident the short 6 mile journey wouldn't eat up too much time. I got to the house to wait for them, but it was nearly 45min later before they arrived!! I was completely shocked because they were in the truck when I left my apartment. When they finally showed up, one of the men clearly had mayonnaise on his face which showed me they didn't care about my time. I hadn't eaten the entire morning, but they had to stop and eat during the 3 hours I was paying for their services?! When they started unloading, I made their job even easier by allowing to leave 95% of the items in the main room. I didn't even have them reassemble anything! In hindsight, I wish I could have saved a little money and not tipped $20 to each of the 3 men. I'm on a tight budget, and renting a truck, finding friends, and doing it myself would've been cheaper. Final note: I had a floor lamp that had a cracked shade. I told the mover I knew about it when he asked but he unscrewed it in the move. Last week I finally unpacked everything and ever found the shade. That shows me it broke somewhere, and they didn't own up to it! Poor business practices. I was really hoping for better! read more

I contacted Top Notch on 12/23/2017, when the moving company I had used for several years stood me up. I was panicked and distraught because every company I had talked to said they had no one available that late in the day, they planned to be closed on Christmas eve or that it was going to cost me twice as much as the original quote I got from the first movers. I believe I spoke with Clarence directly. He was so calm and reassuring. I was so relieved and he immediately gained my confidence and trust. He managed to get three movers out there that day for a fair and reasonable price. I called top notch about our move prior to to get an estimate etc . They were incredibly responsive via Email here on yelp and via the phone . The owner whom I spoke with was super helpful the initial call . I was originally surprised that there was no come out and check to give an accurate estimate but they charge by the hour and drive time which seemed ok to me . He insisted he was sending over a group of veteran guys ( I was incredibly picky as the home I was moving to was brand new renovated and I was nervous ). He assured me all Floorings would be covered / stairs / walls etc . Movers arrived reasonably on time for an early morning and assessed the situation , there were two guys in the group of 4 who were phenomenal . They kept saying "don't worry" "just go relax , sit down " . They really made me feel like I didn't need to do a thing . Quick guys as well , they got out furniture that ar haus had originally said was impossible to get in the elevator , they scoffed at that and succeeded . Loading the truck took longer than anticipated due to some bigger furniture and a stop at a storage unit but that's not why I left three stars . Once they arrived at the home to unload they started moving quickly , and there was nothing laid out , no padding , no floor protectors , not my new railings or walls . They saw old boxes in my garage after I complained about a scratch in my new floor from a lamp being dragged in ( it was crystal and heavy) then they asked if they could use my supplies to cover the floors . I said of course . The unfortunate event was moving a very large dresser in my tight stairwell and it took all 4 guys to do it . They got stuck for the better part of an hour and when It was all said and done I was missing several small pieces of my walls and new custom door trim . When I asked what was the procedure for this as I pointed to the missing frame he looked at me like I was nuts ! Later , they said they would take photos and the owner would get back to me . The guys did remove a ton of my old stuff at the end of the day ( i was giving away ) which helped me out immensely and we tipped and fed them . Fast forward to the next week and I've heard nothing . I call to address all the dents in my wall and they send a guy to come out and fix it bc they have no idea what I'm Talking about as apparently it wasn't reported . He arrived and is very perplexed why this happened . Kept saying it was impossible to have this many dings from a dresser . I assured him I watched it happen , so he did the best he could covering some spots with spackle ( no sanding no painting just white marks all over my walls ) then called the owner to come by and check it out bc my custom trim was going to be as issue . Owner arrived , says the guys told him we would fix all the dents ourselves , but don't worry he will fix it . I asked how and he said oh they'll just cover this molding or we'll get a new one but we need your paint color etc . ( not necessarily possible ) They left assuring me I would receive a phone call in a week with a contractor with a solution . The move itself cost $1100 , I haven't heard from Anyone and I was offered nothing in compensation for any of the repairs which would have been a much easier solution . read more

When the owner yells at a customer over the phone because he has some questions regarding pricing, you really ponder the values of the company. The owner even referred to himself as the "CEO" as a credential for authority over the customer and serve that as a way to belittle customers. Overall very dissatisfied with the move and would not recommend to anyone. The last thing you want is a stressful move; which is what it was at the end of the day. Will not be using them ever again. Edit: Sad to see the owner had to once again state factually incorrect statements. It is a shame he has to make up a story of me attacking anyone at the company. I simply stated my dissatisfaction while he would not let me finish talking and started yelling at me over the phone. Never did I ask to talk to anyone else at the company unlike it is stated below. Once it again it shows how unprofessional some individuals can be as they feel the need to belittle customers. Even the driver who handled the move told me the company representative may have made a mistake when explaining the process. read more

Nothing but good things to say about this company. Briona on the phone was very kind and accommodating in setting up a moving date and pricing. She even went out of the way to let us move on a day they normally don't work. Pricing was also very competitive with various other companies we shopped around. Once the movers arrived (on time), they were all incredibly kind and great at their job. They moved quick, were very clean and thorough, and padded up all our furniture to make sure it wouldn't be damaged. They were able to move some hefty furniture of ours with ease, that we weren't able to move ourselves. They also laid out floor mats to avoid dirtying anything up. Did I mention they are QUICK? Everything about our experience with these guys was TOP NOTCH, and it's nice to find a company where the name holds up to their service. 100% would use them again and reccomend to anyone who needs movers. read more

If you see a good review of this company, I'm telling you now... it had to have been written by an employee. I recently tried them and can't tell you how horrific their service was: from the quote, to the movers and the owner! Don't walk - run from this company. I am a Minority Business Coordinator for a top Fortune 100 company - I have a high standard for excellence for any Minority owned company - for any company!! The owner talked to me at least on two separate occasions and based on the items, dimensions of the room and knowing that it was a 2nd floor apartment that needed to be moved to a storage unit... He quoted me the # of movers and the amount of time it would take to get the job done. No - when asked he said he didn't need to see it in person. He was a professional. 4 hours was the estimate. However, the movers arrived and walked aimlessly around the apartment as if they were trying to figure out what to move first, wasting time and eating up my money like I had an open check book. The first 3 hours they were still in my apartment trying to disassemble and move things. They still needed to get to the storage unit and put things in storage. Left them to work independent of my presence and when I got back to the storage unit - the truck was empty and my storage unit had furniture (expensive furniture) stacked in such a way - anything could have fallen, lamp shades were ripped, their furniture quilts were left behind, boxes marked fragile were sitting on the bottom of boxes that were heavy. It was as if they were trying to ruin my stuff. When I complain - all the owner could do was defend his reputation; the length of time he has worked and owned his own business, etc. Ended up paying twice the quote. I'm still upset! I try to help Minority businesses...but this is one I would not suggest (and I'm a Minority!!) Don't get sucked in - they are a mess! When it was time to move my stuff to a new apartment - I called University Movers - they were on time, got my stuff out of storage in the time quoted and I didn't pay an additional dime for overtime. They know their business - and were truly professional. Their District Operations Manager even showed up on the job to ensure I was satisfied. You will not be disappointed. read more

This was my 2nd move with Top Notch Moving Solutions. My first experience with them was excellent. This time was not at that level. Working with Briona to set up the move was very easy - she's very organized and responsive. The movers that came to the job were very friendly but not the most professional. I was moving from a one bedroom apartment in Plymouth, MI to an apartment in Novi, MI. I counted on the expertise of those at TNMS to estimate the amount of time that would be needed. They estimated 2-3 hours with 2 men. The job ended up taking nearly 6 hours... The two men who came to help me move were very courteous but very slow moving. Every trip out to the truck took a long time and, while I was taking things out to my car, I would see them standing by the truck and chatting. I understand that it's hard work and they need breaks... but it was nearly every single trip out there. I just didn't feel that they were motivated to keep close to the time quoted. I had everything packed in boxes and 80% of boxes and furniture were in my front room to try and help keep to time and make things as easy on them as possible. In the process of the move, an antique jewelry holder was broken because a shelving unit wasn't carried properly and a plastic tub lid was smashed, ruining the storage tub. They also didn't put carpet protector down in the new apartment but no damage was done to the carpet. I also never received a call for an after-move review as I was after the first move. I moved on Saturday morning and it's now Tuesday. In my last move, they called me the evening of my move to review the service... In all reality, it just seems like the move wasn't planned properly. If they quote 2-3 hours but only send 2 men... that doesn't seem realistic. I wish they had either quoted more time so that I could prepare and budget properly or send more movers to help move things along. As I said at the beginning of my review, this was my second experience with this company and, unfortunately, I believe it will be my last. Everyone was very nice to work with but the service didn't match what was promised. Please note that this review is not written out of bitterness or anger. It is an honest review that I've written a few days after the move itself so I could be sure that everything was factual and without the frustration that I felt at that time. I know that the owner does respond to these reviews so I want to express my honest opinion on the experience to help in future moves. read more

Had three guys come out and help me pack the truck and then unpack it at a storage unit. These guys were GREAT! Professional, worked hard, and did it all with a smile. I would recommend them to anyone and actually already did to the storage unit that I am at. 5 stars and will be using them again to load back up and take to our new house! read more

This company was great to work with! The service on the phone was friendly and informative. The movers who came were awesome! Troy and will did a great job moving our furniture out of our 2nd story condo. They were conscientious of our furniture and even carefully set aside some items that we forgot inside a cabinet. They also did an impressive job getting all of our furniture to fit in a 10x10 storage unit. We will definitely be using this company again when we can finally move into our new house!! read more
