Lew's Seafood in North Hills

Lew's is a traditional and very good seafood spot in North Hills outside Northwest Philly. For almost 60 years it has been serving up dishes & meals from the deep to take away from their store or eat in their adjoining Dockside Pub. Right now during the pandemic, most people are choosing takeout. And there is a lot to choose from - including weekly & daily specials. For my first meal of the new year, I felt like eating some seafood and called Lew's to order their Bang Bang Shrimp with Bay fries and potato salad. All were ready when I got there. I really like their Bang Bang Shrimp but I do add hot sauce to it to give it even more of a 'bang, bang,' Lew's is very solid overall and it's hard to go wrong here with whatever you order in my opinion.

Yum! Made to order fried calamari. I was going to share this but as I started eating...I knew it wasn't going to happen. I love it! Can't wait to try more menu items!

The good thing about this place is that they make the majority of their menu items from scratch, and that includes the fried mozzarella sticks. Everything I had was fresh. My only complaint about the food is some of the fried items just need a little salt and/or pepper in the breading. Service is quaint and snappy. It's just what you want and expect, friendly enough to make you feel good but not intrusive. The bar area reminds me of a dive, but it's a Dockside Pub...the ambience is totally perfect for a crab shack and there's no reason to get all fancy just to eat some seafood. The crab legs were cooked perfectly and tasted delish! Shrimp basket is a little pricey but it's seafood and it's fresh, so I guess I shouldn't whine about it, I mean really, if I can't afford to go out to eat then don't go out to eat, AMIRIGHT? Definitely give this place a try if you are in the area and looking for something that isn't pizza, cheeseteaks or Chinese. Or hell, if you are craving seafood in general, I wouldn't pick anywhere else in an 8 mile radius!

Wow, everything exceeds my expectations. After reading all the reviews, I expect the food is good,…read morebut not THIS good! The food is fresh, delicious, and DIFFERENT. We start with grilled shrimps. They are different from any grilled shrimps we have had, and they are delicious. Then we have lobster mac n cheese, mix seafood tajin, and Seven Seas Steam Combo for the 3 of us. Everything's tastes amazing and fresh. Service is great and friendly. Don't be afraid of the pricing. We probably only need 2 entrees, as the serving size is huge! If you share the entrees, it really isn't that expensive, esp. for great seafood. We don't have room for dessert, but as we head out, we can see the dessert display and regret not getting something. The cakes look great.

This time, I confirmed with the waitress how it would be prepared, but what came out was completely different, filleted with a tomato based sauce, peppers, and onions. I told them that was not what we discussed and made it clear I'm allergic to tomatoes. I was told it wouldn't be a problem to make the fish I actually requested. Instead of remaking the dish, they took the same fish back, removed the toppings, left the tomato residue and brought it back out with the same side; including cold rice. After I clearly stated an allergy, serving the same fish with the tomato residue is unacceptable. This was careless and disappointing. If a customer mentions a food allergy, the dish should be remade, not modified and sent back out.

Honestly, this place just feels good the second you walk in but quick heads up, you'll want to make…read morea reservation. It gets busy, and now I understand why. You can tell Daniel (the owner) actually cares about how everything runs. The place is clean, organized, and everything flows smoothly without feeling rushed. And Christina... she's seriously the best. Super friendly, easy to talk to, and actually helps guide you through the menu. She was on point with the specials and made great recommendations. We even got into a conversation about her trip to Peru, which was a really cool touch it felt natural, not forced, and made the whole experience better. We started with the Leche de Tigre, and it was a perfect opener, fresh, citrusy, and packed with flavor. You get that brightness from the lime with just the right kick, plus the calamari added a nice texture. We also tried one of the specials, the causa, which was light but still full of flavor and a great way to start. For the mains, we went all in. The Cowboy Steak (18 oz bone-in ribeye) was easily the highlight, cooked right, super flavorful, and paired with the huancaína risotto and that huacatay butter... yeah, that combo is no joke. We also had the pollo a la brasa (special, marinated 24 hours), and you can tell it was super juicy, well-seasoned, and done right. We also had the pasta con mariscos, and this one deserves its own mention. Homemade pasta with shrimp, calamari, and mussels in a chupe-style tomato broth rich, flavorful, and comforting without feeling too heavy. Definitely one of those dishes you keep going back to. And I'm not even exaggerating... the table bread with the butter? We were eating like it was part of the main course. That butter is ridiculously good. Dessert sealed it. The lava cake with lucuma ice cream was warm, rich, and balanced out perfectly by the ice cream. We also tried the house-made guanábana sorbet, which was light, refreshing, and the perfect way to finish after a heavy meal. The vibe is what really ties it all together. It's casual enough to hang out with friends and talk, but still nice enough for a date night or bringing family. It doesn't try too hard, and that's exactly why it works. Overall, everything just clicked: food, service, atmosphere. No weak spots. Definitely coming back. This version is clean, structured, and reads like someone who actually understands what they're talking about, not just listing food.

I kept suggesting we go there one night for dinner and finally on a bustling Saturday evening we did! We were asked if we wanted to sit outside or inside and we chose outside so we could listen to the music and enjoy the ambience. We perused the menu and decided to start with a cocktail. I ordered "the Unicorn" which is described as having "assorted fruit liquor" and the server told me they were out of the fruit liquor. So I went with Robert's dew, while my bf got the Dragonberry mojito. Our drinks arrived fairly quickly and they were decent. We decided to start with the cheesesteak egg rolls as an app and for our entrees I did the crab cakes and he did the fried chicken. The egg rolls were also served very quickly, but it was at this moment we realized we had no silverware or napkins while everyone around us had cloth napkins on their laps. We managed to flag down our server and asked for napkins. She came back with cocktail napkins. It was our fault for not explaining we did not have silverware either, but our table was bare so we didn't realize we needed to be more specific. The egg rolls were served with a spicy ketchup, and were hot and delicious, with fried onions and a crispy coated outer shell. When our entrees arrived we still didn't manage to get silverware but the person delivering our food brought it over quickly. Now it's at this point I should mention I'm quite the foodie, who not only dines out frequently but also loves to cook. My crab cakes were a little on the "fishy" side and lacked flavor. All of the flavor was on the lemon aioli they were served with. That being said, they were definitely filled with crab and didn't seem to contain much filler. They just need some additional seasoning. The risotto it was served with could also use seasoning as well. My bfs fried chicken was served with French fries, Cole slaw, and corn bread. I tasted it and would give it all a 3/5 rating. Not bad at all, but nothing to rave about. It was on the dry side and again lacked flavor. We were considering dessert since we saw there were a few cookie style skillets when we looked up the menu in advance, but we were on the fence about if we should. When our server didn't ask if we wanted dessert we opted to skip it this time. Overall, the ambience is fun and it's a great place for a drink and apps with friends. The flatbread pizza seemed to be the star of the show and I think next time we will order from the sandwich, burger, or pizza menu rather than a full on dinner. Our server was HUSTLING and may have had a few tables inside too, which can be stressful, plus the restaurant was busy. We will come back and try again.

The restaurant is beautiful inside, the vibe is upscale but still comfortable, and the staff made us feel taken care of the entire time. Ardor was seriously fantastic super attentive, friendly, and made the experience smooth from start to finish. Everything we ordered was full of flavor. The tzatziki was fresh and creamy, the burek was crispy and delicious, and the paella came out perfectly cooked with great seasoning. The real standout for us was the lamb shank tender, rich, and absolutely worth ordering. We also tried a few sides and honestly there wasn't a single miss. If you're looking for a great Mediterranean spot with quality food and great service, this place is a must. We'll definitely be coming back.

Ironically, we ordered the same dishes, except for the appetizer. The appetizer, crab cakes, were excellent! I lived in Maryland for 30 years....I know good crab cakes. While these were not the typical cakes with Old Bay Seasoning, the seasonings and sauce used were very unique and luscious!! I ordered the Pomegranate Braised Short Ribs, which were so tender they practically melted in my mouth. The gravy and couscous made it a decadently delicious dish. My partner ordered the Spaghetti with clams and swordfish. It also was so appetizing and the swordfish especially was heavenly. I've increased my rating from 4 to 5 stars as this gem of a restaurant may be the best in Glenside.
