My best friend lives right near Robert's Block and whenever I visit I can hear the live music playing. I kept suggesting we go there one night for dinner and finally on a bustling Saturday evening we did! [[HIGHLIGHT]]We were asked if we wanted to sit outside or inside and we chose outside so we could listen to the music and enjoy the ambience.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We perused the menu and decided to start with a cocktail. I ordered "the Unicorn" which is described as having "assorted fruit liquor" and the server told me they were out of the fruit liquor. So I went with Robert's dew, while my bf got the Dragonberry mojito. Our drinks arrived fairly quickly and they were decent. We decided to start with the cheesesteak egg rolls as an app and for our entrees I did the crab cakes and he did the fried chicken. The egg rolls were also served very quickly, but it was at this moment we realized we had no silverware or napkins while everyone around us had cloth napkins on their laps. We managed to flag down our server and asked for napkins. She came back with cocktail napkins. It was our fault for not explaining we did not have silverware either, but our table was bare so we didn't realize we needed to be more specific. The egg rolls were served with a spicy ketchup, and were hot and delicious, with fried onions and a crispy coated outer shell. When our entrees arrived we still didn't manage to get silverware but the person delivering our food brought it over quickly. Now it's at this point I should mention I'm quite the foodie, who not only dines out frequently but also loves to cook. My crab cakes were a little on the "fishy" side and lacked flavor. All of the flavor was on the lemon aioli they were served with. That being said, they were definitely filled with crab and didn't seem to contain much filler. They just need some additional seasoning. The risotto it was served with could also use seasoning as well. My bfs fried chicken was served with French fries, Cole slaw, and corn bread. I tasted it and would give it all a 3/5 rating. Not bad at all, but nothing to rave about. It was on the dry side and again lacked flavor. We were considering dessert since we saw there were a few cookie style skillets when we looked up the menu in advance, but we were on the fence about if we should. When our server didn't ask if we wanted dessert we opted to skip it this time. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Overall, the ambience is fun and it's a great place for a drink and apps with friends.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The flatbread pizza seemed to be the star of the show and I think next time we will order from the sandwich, burger, or pizza menu rather than a full on dinner. Extremely pleased with my first experience at Robert's Block! The Happy Hour menu is out of this world. Feet away from the Glenside Septa station, it's a super convenient spot to grab a drink or watch a game after work. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I was surprised at how empty it was at 5:00 PM.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I was seated right away in the bar area while I waited for my friend to arrive. The waitress came over to offer water and take my drink order. She was very attentive and prompt the entire evening. The beers on the menu seem to be on a constant rotation according to the season. I ordered a Hell or High Watermelon on draft to start. My friend and I split the breaded cheese curds and truffle Parmesan fries. Both were delicious and large enough portions to share. The Louie flatbread was also amazing, and I'm happy they could accommodate my request to remove the prosciutto. I boxed up half and took it to go. Finally, the Kitchen Sink Cookie skillet. It was brought out to the table piping hot and was the perfect combination of sweet and salty. All of the skillets on the dessert menu sounded fantastic. My friend introduced me to this place. It's tucked away by the train station, who knows if I would've noticed it without her, but when you walk in the place has a nice ambiance. The staff was kind. I ordered the blueberry cosmo and I loved the fresh blueberries that came with it. I ordered the grilled chicken entree thinking it would be one of the lighter items on the menu, a good before-concert-meal' but it ended up being quite a big serving and I won't lie it was so good that I ate it all anyway. Friendly staff, good cocktails, good bar food. We sat outside w lots of umbrella provided shade. If you want to sit outside at happy hour/dinner time, get there early. Our server was training new staff and they were both fantastic. We got a bunch of appetizers to share, all tasty. The blood orange Rita block tail was a big hit. Live music started around 7. At that time, it seemed like our server may have been moved inside, but still gave excellent service. After dinner, we had a drink at the bar. The salmon was delicious just a tad on the saltier side for me I don't use a lot of salt I should have probably specified that so I know for next time. I also had the special of the day as an appetizer which were the bang bang shrimp tacos and they were great as well. Just the shrimp were a bit overly breaded for being fried. Again, I think it's more of a preference for me because I lean on the healthier side of eating, so less is more, but they were still great. I loved the red cabbage in the taco. The flatbread was also delicious even though a $2 substitute for cauliflower crust is quiet steep considering the flatbread is already $14.50. Overall our waiter was sweet and we were there really early when they just reopened in the evening for dinner. Oh! And I absolutely LOVE the ambience. The interior decor is absolutely suburb. The blueberries looked rotten and the drink had no flavor and tasted wateted down . I drink cosmos all the time,all flavors. It's my favorite . the manager came out and told me it's their best bartender and their best selling drink and she could not exchange it for something else, imied we didn't like it because it was blueberry. This is poor form for a restaurant. I've worked in many restaurants and attended many restaurants. I've never had this experience before -next time we will go to The Ways across the street they always have great cosmos and are glad to exchange anything that is not up to par( not that that ever happens there). Stopped in for our first visit tonight....have to be honest, we left disappointed and not optimistic that we would return for the following reasons: I ordered a Malbec which was pretty bland, but after a long day was thirsty for round 2. I hadn't quite finished my first glass, when another server/bartender arrived with a mini carafe of my 2nd glass. I would have expected her to leave it as most restaurants do for me to refill when ready, instead she insisted on my glass and poured it over my existing glass. This definitely ruined the taste as I finished my 2nd glass. I ordered the special which was a chicken pot pie which was also equally bland. We asked for salt and pepper to try to help with the taste, which did....but I have never tasted something so bland from the get go. Our waiter was AMAZING, but they also had bus boy staff that would awkwardly pop into the room like being timed every 30-45 seconds (reminded me of being at a water park with the choreographed/timed movements that are required of the lifeguards.) just a weird environment/atmosphere. Pretty disappointed in the quality of food, as they appear to have an amazing outdoor space for the summer! :-( read more

I opted for the shrimp tacos for my entree and my dinner companion opted for the short ribs and enjoyed them both. They almost lost me with the mash-up massacre that is Canadian import Poutine and reeled me back in again with a perfectly prepared and plated breast of duck. Roberts Block is a terrific addition to this leafy burb floating between the ying and yang of always popular comfort food and more adventurous upscale fare. Well appointed with a strong service spine, they really don't have to worry. So what if you want a burger and your companion wants sweet potato bisque and the pan seared scallops. Well I'd hoped to leave this behind us on Google but the reply the owner gave me there was really defensive and annoying so I am compelled to repeat it here. I have been a loyal customer since the first week this restaurant was opened. But on my most recent order I was served a hamburger that was basically raw, cold and slimy. And the manager or Maitre D or whatever dismissed me out of hand, refused my request for a replacement. And the subsequent pretense on the owner's part that I must be talking about some other restaurant was really just a poor attempt at spin. Like he was calling me Fake News. I won't be going back. Oh and here's the pic of the burger. Cheese cold and congealed, the tomato and lettuce just look terrible, and zoom in to see how raw that ground beef was, if you dare. It's a miracle I didn't get E Coli from it. Pandemic or not, a burger ordered medium well should never come out like this. And it wasn't the first time, it was just the worst time. My first visit was last night. Perfect atmosphere for grabbing dinner on a Friday night minus the huge crowds. The service was excellent and my food was delicious HOWEVER, I was VERY disappointed with the portions! I ordered the crab cake entree which came with only one small cake and about 2 tablespoons each of potatoes and mixed vegetable. Everyone said Roberts Block has gotten much better, you need to try it. So we walked over Friday night to see the music. We couldn't be seated outside but the hostess took our number to call when there was availability. We sat at the bar, had a drink and waited. And waited. So we ordered apps. The flat bread and wedge were great. Bartender was wonderful and we were pleasantly surprised. Said we'd be coming back. After about an hour and 3/4, we gave up and headed out. Stopped to tell the hostess she could take us off the list. She said 'ok', but didn't ask our name or anything. We stopped by the patio to listen for a bit when she picked up menus and offered to seat us. Did she forget about us? Did she think we'd decided to stay at the bar and took us off the list? Who knows. But knowing we were sitting inside while space was available outside was a surprise. On second thought, maybe we won't be coming back. read more

I was looking for some place to have dinner after coming from movie tavern in Flourtown. Roberts was 9 minutes away. The location is great. It's actually right next to Glenside train station. We went around 9:30 at night. There was plenty of parking. First impressions are big for me. It is a great looking restaurant with floor to ceiling windows, brown and wood decor and modern for the most part. The restaurant was very clean during our visit and besides the one couple at the bar we were the only guest. Our server was very nice. She answered some questions about menu items and we ordered. Although we were the only diners the food still took a bit. We ordered the duck and chuck burger, crabby mac and cheese and the app special of bang bang shrimp egg rolls. My friend loved his duck and chuck burger. He said it was juicy and had lots of flavor. The fries were hand cut and very good. I had the bang bang shrimp egg rolls. These were just okay and were actually elevated by the condiment they gave along side. This sauce made them taste really good. Unfortunately I had to send the crabby mac and cheese back. It had bacon in it. I don't eat bacon. This is the reason I gave 3 stars. I would not think that it would have bacon in it because it is called crabby mac and cheese. My server probably should have told me this. Also a gentleman who was not my server came over to my table a few seconds after I discovered this. His response to me after I mentioned the fact that it has bacon in it was, "oh yeah, it does" and walked away. Uh thanks??? Anyway my server was kind enough to take it back and get it with no bacon. Unfortunately this time there was no crab in it. I just ate it and left well enough alone. Our final tab came to 42 dollars. Not the worst. I was in Roberts Block this Friday night with a client and ordered my usual drink- Woodford Reserve Manhattan. I have been to an abundance of restaurants in the suburbs and city and the elixir I always ordered is the same- WRM. All the ones that I have gone to, Black Bass, Ritz Carlton, Macaroni, Blue Bell, Drake etc... have this drink - and at least a half a glass if not more for under $20. So when my drink arrived , at Roberts Block, you could imagine my shock! It was less than a finger high and when you removed the large orange slice- well there was nothing there!! and when I asked the cost $20- OUTRAGEOUS! I tried to send back- the manager , Angel, would not take it back! They have lost me as a customer- not only because the whole thing was outrageous, but when I asked for the manager and Angel came over, she started quizzing me on my knowledge about the drink and where could I get this drink for less than $20. I don't appreciate to be treated this way and because of those reasons, I will not return. They didn't seem to mind very much losing me as a customer.! read more
