I hit up Levain each time I visit the city. I can buy them frozen at Whole Foods and bake them myself but there's nothing like a warm, freshly baked cookie from a specialty shop. My sister's rocky road one was similarly bad, and we left with a decent mocha and ice latte, but crushed hopes in terms of the cookies. We went to the original location and had a great double chocolate chip cookie so maybe it's this location, or maybe it's the type of cookie, regardless this experience was subpar. I have to give kudos to the service however, the person who packed our four drinks showed a lot of care by asking if we wanted stickers to seal the lids, and how far we were going to walk with them, and whether we wanted our drinks to be left open to drink while we brought the additional ones to family. I'm not a cookie person, so this review is largely courtesy of my better half. Firstly, you know how even if everything else is perfect, you tend to remember the one thing that didn't go as well? The person who helped us forgot the lemon cake. Luckily I checked the bag but only after we walked all the way back to the car but before getting on the road. I went back to claim the lemon cake I'd already paid for. The person recognised and apologised and I got my lemon cake. Now the cookies. They're sweet. Very sweet. I did have a few bites of several of their cookies a few years back when they had only one location, and remember enjoying them, although they weren't so good that it turned me into a cookie person. We went to the original location of this famous NYC bakery. I could not wait to try their signature chocolate chip and walnut cookie. I found the small descended entrance way to be very inviting and so NYC ! The service was great both times that we visited, even the day we visited just before they closed. They still had fresh delicious selections in their case, and we were able to get exactly what we wanted. The second time we visited, we tried a couple of new things (I will list them below) and we were also given a great recommendation for a coffee shop since their espresso machine was down (see my review of Frame). So the second time we visited, the place was definitely a bit more crowded as it was not just before closing. But the service was still NYC fast, friendly, and, we appreciated their offerings on that day as well. Especially the baguette with butter and jam, raspberry jam ! It was so unsuspectingly good. Anyway, as I try and make myself stop drooling at the memory of that baguette, I'll close with urging you to please check out this bakery when you're in NYC. It's a must! They did not earn their reputation for no reason. I also think (as a cookie connoisseur) I preferred these over Gideon's Bakehouse! Who would've thought?! This review is for both the bakery and the online service. I first discovered this cookie because one of our vendors sent this as a gift to the office. I had never seen such a large cookie before so I was eager to try it. I was in love after my first bite. It's a perfect combination of flavors of chocolate, walnut and butter with the perfect texture of chewy and slightly crisp on the outside. After figuring out these cookies were made in Manhattan, I made sure to visit the bakery every time I went to Manhattan. Lines are usually out the door at the bakery but the lines go very quickly. Cookies are warm when they hand it to you. The cookies freeze very well. You just need to pop it in an air fryer for five minutes and it'll taste like a freshly baked cookie. I've also ordered cookies to be shipped to my house directly. They never disappoint and are so prettily packaged. I'm always amazed how good they still taste after shipping! read more

I didn't find the peppermint flavor overwhelming. Another favorite is the coconut chocolate chip, which was a seasonal, but they made it permanent. I gave their hot chocolate a try and it was nothing to brag about. They made it like a latte with foam on top. I was not a fan of that.
