Welcome coffee lovers to BIRCH on 96th Street (NW corner) & Columbus Ave.

Definitely my go to coffee shop on the UWS, less than 0.03 miles. Birch foodie pastries does compliment their delicious array of coffee flavors. Along with their staff who I must pay homage too, as they truly enjoy serving us customers with kindness, genuine smiles and excellent service.

I decided to stop by Birch Coffee after a meeting. I wasn't sure what I wanted until I saw that rosemary honey butter biscuit and a small cup of coffee.... OMWorddddddddd that biscuit was EVERYTHING. I originally wanted it warm however, they did not have a microwave, it was DELICIOUS. Staff was very friendly. The atmosphere is very comfortable. There are a few areas to charge your phone..

Such a cute little spot for delicious coffee! They have a special birch spiced latte which tasted like winter time cozy vibes in a cup. Definitely a must visit for a hot cup of coffee to keep you warm this winter season.

Stopped to get a cup of coffee prior to heading to JFK Nice fast customer service and great iced mocha. Lovely lively ambiance location for all New Yorkers to visit.

Came here on a Trader Joe's run - I went ahead and tried the Birch Latte with oat milk. It was balanced - not too sweet, with clear distinct fall spice but not bitter or overwhelming. The person who was taking my order likened it to a drink version of a spice cake and less sweet than a pumpkin spice latte, and I agree. I can see myself trying the iced version if in the area. Also got 20% off which made it affordable. We noted the cozy bookshelf decor and the unique beans and mugs available to purchase. I did notice that the lid didn't fit the cup well, so note to commuters if you haven't yet tried Birch Coffee the latte spilled slightly around the edges as I was holding it. I also didn't try anything else other than the drink, so I'd be mindful of other reviews who mention they have tried the baked goods and other offerings if you want to try too. Also noticed someone said there was no wifi - weird because I saw multiple people studying here... I think this is a chain coffee place unique to New York, and they're opening a location in Seoul soon. Service was standard for this location specifically.

Quick service on a Sunday morning. The chai latte was unexpectedly amazing. Good amount of seating at this location. You can take your coffee to go and walk around West side park or Central Park!

I love Birch! It's my favorite coffee shop in the city. They make their own oat milk and it's the best. I usually get the iced vanilla oat latte but today I tried the new oat cold foam and it was delicious. Birch also has propagations you can stop for and a library system where you can take or leave books. They are LGBTQ + friendly and they give a teacher discount which is greatly appreciated. I love the vibes!

Stopped by for coffee after a hearty lunch. We were surprised to see a line, but then thought maybe it was evidence that the coffee must be good. The line went quickly enough. There are tables and seating inside. We opted for one of the tables outside. There are also benches with tables. The inside is done tastefully and has books lining a back wall. They also sell cool looking t-shirts...ones that I thought I could actually wear. Ordered my usual hot Americano. Husband got his usual coffee with oat milk. My son got the iced Americano. My Americano was surprisingly smooth. It had a nice rounded out flavor. At first I thought it was the combination of the scone and coffee together. But after continuing to just drink the Americano, I was very pleased with the flavor. Not a hint of bitterness or sourness. My husband liked his coffee with oat milk, but I thought the taste was average. My son's Americano was good; not watered down. It still retained good enough flavor. Always looking for a good chocolate chip cookie, I searched their dessert section. No chocolate chip cookies, but they had a pre-packaged "cookies and cream" cookie that I purchased. I also bought a chocolate scone to satisfy my chocolate chip craving. Unfortunately, the cookies and cream cookie tasted only of sugar. I only ate one piece and abandoned it. The scone was good, but nothing spectacular. Impressed with their Americano, I'll keep this on my list of coffee shops to return to.

Birch Coffee was the first coffee place I saw when I walked to the West Side of Manhattan today. I saw lots of empty seats outside so I went in for my usual small drip coffee. I was warmly greeted by a really nice barista behind the counter. He also had a co-worker keeping things moving quickly. The coffee was perfect in both taste and price. The size is 8oz but I get a good buzz from 8oz so I don't mind. The bathroom was clean and everything inside and outside looks great. I'm highly recommending this Birch Coffee location. It's the nicest one I've been to.

The hype certainly stilll lives here, as we waited about an hour before being seated. Luckily, we didn't have to wait in line the whole time and wandered the neighborhood. When we were seated, service was quick and attentive. The staff are friendly at answering questions, and the smells are fantastic. We got the pho, bun bo hue, and the Banh cuon. The banh cuon was excellent, great flavor and texture. The pho is different from BAE, with the noodles here being the classic thin pho noodles. The broth is also much lighter, almost like a southern style. The bun Bo hue was ok. Tbh, it was a bit light in flavor, and there was really just a little spice in it that carried it. Otherwise, I wouldn't get it again. Overall, the spot is good, but the flavors just weren't quite there for me. I've heard great things about the banh mis here, but given the soup I had, I wouldn't come to this spot and would rather just visit the union square location. Wish I could give 3.5 stars.

First of all, I have to mention the prices: we got 6 pastries and 2 hot chocolates for just over $40: a steal in this economy. Second, it was mostly authentic: the "francia krémes" (which they call a "Napoleon" here for some reason) was quite close to how they serve it in Hungary, save for the caramelized and sickeningly sugary top (which I skipped). The "dobos torta" had the reverse problem: its top--the eponymous "drum"--was authentic, but the meat of it far, far too chocolatey. Guys, a slice of "dobos" is NOT supposed to put you in a diabetic coma! It is not even meant to be very chocolatey! It is supposed to be much more subtle, even savory. The pastries we took home, which included several "rétesek," received high reviews as well. The servers were nice, but did not speak Hungarian. My only other critique would be that the space is incredibly cramped. You will be elbow-to-elbow with various Columbia students. My companion also told me the bathroom was filthy. If you're OK with these rougher spots, though, this cozy café is worth a visit if you want a peak at the "old country."
