Its deeply penetrating flavors, amazing staff, delicious danishes, and in demand espresso beans can't "FOOL" anyone; why a larger store is so not needed! It was also a message for me to see their sinage...my new beginnings after a job lost in 11/2025 (3 in 5 years). Yes it sucks, when you're a resident in CraCra NYC and not working? It's pure insanity. The great news is that I literally launched two (2) viable and needed service companies. But, what caught my attention, was Matto Espresso store sinage. Because, I have a Matto miniature metal charm from Birthdate Co. an online candle shop. And inside some of their candles are Tarot charms & I was shocked me when I received The FOOL ("0" number). Of course I did get defensive but checked myself. Mic drop for sure. We went to Matto Espresso for the first time and it was great! I had heard about this bakery and wanted to try. How this bakery works is that you download their app and load some money, and if you place order form Their app, almost all pastries and drinks are $3-$4. But it's a little small, can't really hang and have a cuppa here... but it's serviceable and a welcome break from the large chain from Seattle a block north away and the other hipster coffee place a block south (you can figure it out). I arrived around 6pm right before closing which I usually don't do coffee/espresso that late. Anyway, the very friendly counter man allowed me in. I'm so grateful he did. My gluten free power bar was delicious! I can't wait to order it again. Btw, I'm Not opposed to gluten. I was a little skeptical but it was great! My iced mocha was good. Best of all it was $5.50! As a frequent Matto customer, I have visited almost all of the Matto's throughout the city, and this one is as good as all the others. With everything priced at 2.72 (including tax), the drinks and pastries are more than worth the price. I tend to order hot lattes or hot teas, but decided to try an almondy and iced mocha today, both of which were made very well. The place is very small, so there is little to no seating, but I sat outside with a friend for over an hour and there was no issue. Would definitely come back again. read more

But in all seriousness, I have no idea how they're turning a profit which makes me nervous that they'll disappear and I won't have access to the best chocolate chip cookie I've devoured in recent memory. I can't speak for the coffee but I'm guessing that, based on the other reviews, a $2 cup of joe is not going to be the best roast in the world. Also, my $2 canteen of mango smoothie was nice and thick but a little chalky towards the end where all the sediment had settled. Probably can't go wrong with any of the pastries. My mom loved her Nutella croissant. The cookie I ordered skewed more on the shortbread taste but still perfectly chewy. What I replay, Yes from now on we charge $0.75 extra for a shot This took me back a few years back just before they where shot down by the Sheriff ( one morning there was no coffee all their locations were colse). Going back about two weeks the Muffins are not avilable as of must of the sandwiches the bourekas are gone It looks exactly as of the last time. In COVID era America, there really isn't much to look forward to during your day. The constant stress of work and illness constantly looming over your head makes it hard to derive basic pleasure from anything. That being said, there is one part of my day I always look forward to and it's my iced dirty chai tea latte. Every day is brightened by the most beautiful dance on my palate performed by an ensemble of ginger, nutmeg, cinnamon, cardamom, and black pepper. Sweet with a subtle hint of spice, this drink is the only thing in my life that has never let me down...UNTIL I CAME HERE. I was actually excited to go to Matto Espresso but regretted it as soon as I saw the thick slop mixing in the back. However, before turning to the door I heard my 1st-grade teacher, Ms. Kromenhauk's, voice in my head, "don't judge a book by its cover." Struck with a bout of ill-advised mercy I leaned towards the Barista and ordered their "Famous iced dirty chai". Wow, was I impressed! It must've taken years of coordinated effort and planning to perfect such an awful product. I would like to personally congratulate Matto Espresso for ruining something so simple and beautiful. I will forever remember the memory of this viscous swill trudging down my throat.
