Sorry but the coffee (cappuccino) just was not good. This is my first and only time so I don't know if this is an exception to the rule but honestly, it was really not a very good cup of coffee. I came here after my morning run (OK, I actually walk in the morning, but that makes me sound like I'm geriatric) Ann really needed a caffeine fix. I decided to come to Zelma's after passing by for a while; I am glad I came in. They were out of drip coffee, so they made me an Americano. The coffee was very good, proportions of coffee to water was evidence that the person behind the counter knew how to do coffee correctly. The counter staff was very friendly and did not seem frazzled even though they were finally getting a breather after the morning rush, which is when I came in. The outdoor seating area is small, but the folding table was pretty stable, and the folding chairs were fairly comfortable. Quite a surprise. Definitely another go-to place on my neighborhood list. read more

This coffee shop is close to my heart, as it opened the same time I moved to the neighborhood. The staff is always so kind- I've never had a bad experience. I come here often to do work if I am lucky enough to grab a table. They always have light jazz playing in the background and is usually full of students studying or friends catching up over coffee. If you come, I highly reccomend the dulce de leche latte and the brown sugar shaken espresso. read more

Ambiance is great. Pricing is rather high. It's worth if you're going to stay here for a while and enjoy the WiFi to get your monies worth. I asked for a quad Expresso and it was 3.50 x 2, while to me, very expensive, I get it, but then to add 2.00 for a "Specialty Drink", come on. Otherwise, very clean and very nice. read more

Exploring a new coffee shop that can effectively caffeinate you is one of those things needed to start off the morning right. I was pleasantly surprised when Zelma's opened up in the neighborhood. It's a small establishment, very clean, and neatly decorated with coffee signs, and small pieces of art. There was even a flower wall right by the entrance. There were pastries, a refrigerated section for yogurts and juices, everything you would need for breakfast. I got the latte to go. The barista was super nice and made it quickly for me. Coffee was full bodied, strong and better than anything I could make for myself at home. The only comment I would have is that the items on the chalkboard sign outside weren't on the menu inside, so that was a little confusing. I would love to return to have a coffee at the shop with a book. read more

Popped into Zelma's Caffe after Shiny Tea because I had to use the bathroom LOL. Felt bad, so I ordered an almond croissant and my wife ordered a buttered croissant. To be honest, both croissants were meh. They weren't flaky and the inside wasn't airy, but the almond croissant had good flavor. However, I think this is usually the case when a coffee shop does pastries. Similarly, when a French bakery does coffee it's usually meh. So, not gonna ding them here and also due to other factors - the employee was super friendly, the decor was homey, and they played calming piano jazz cafe music. I could definitely see myself working from here! 4/5 Yelp stars. We'll be back ...to try the coffee next time haha. read more

The sign on the counter that lists prices for the various baked goods says that a banana-walnut muffin is $3.25. The cashier pushed a button to ring it up and the cost was displayed as $4.25. They need to fix their cashier pricing to match what the sign on the counter says! read more

Love Zelma's. The coffee is delicious and the vibe is really relaxing. I was hoping a great neighborhood cafe would pop up and here it is.

I went in fotr the first time because it looked like a charming neighborhood cafe. There was a small menu on a stand on the counter. I ordered a blueberry muffin for $3.25. They rang it up as $4.67. I questioned it and the manager(?) said "we changed our prices." This is always very annoying but it was worse because i said "You have to change the prices on the menu" and she responded "You can go somewhere else." (!) I said " whats the point of posting prices if theyre wrong?" She got very huffy, like it was ME who was wrong. Finally i said, "You can change it. Its not hard," and turned to walk out. She grudgingly swiped the menu off the counter. Whether she uldated the prices i dont know. read more

I hate to do this to a relatively affordable local business. I just got a cup of coffee and a pastry from Zelma's and the counter person put her hands (I saw her touch her face several times while making my drink) on the rim of my coffee cup and touch my waffle with her fingers. For the price of a small coffee the brand of the coffee should be revealed. When I asked what the coffee was the gal at the register looked at the other guy behind the counter and said, "Columbian, right?" Peeky's across the street uses Stumptown and knowing that brand I'm willing to spend the $. It's a big deal to spend $4 for a small coffee so I highly recommend the brand of the coffee be front & center. If it's not a well known brand you should lower the price. Also, why not offer more than one variety? Maybe do a single origin and a blend.. if coffee is your main thing make it outstanding not just "Columbian, right?" The coffee was ok. NOT full bodied, more a lighter roast. Not a fan (yet) but will pop in again at some point to see how they develop. All I saw were some run of the mill croissants and a ton of pre-packaged slices of cheesecake - none were very appealing. Space is welcoming.. some good seating available on a Sat. afternoon. Love the hardcover books to peruse. Maybe consider a book exchange? Bring in a book, take a book. Hard to write this review as I want new shops like this to succeed in my 'hood but this girl works hard for her money and so I also want top quality for what I spend. read more

My coffee was weak and shitty, it tasted like milk soup. For almost 7$ this is ridiculous! Don't get their hot coffees.
