I have been a customer of Leslie's for a few years now, having maintained a small seasonal above swimming pool. In the past I would just buy chlorine tablets and never really bothered to ask for help or guidance. We recently traded in our seasonal pool and bought a hot tub and needed to get all of our starting chemicals. The staff at Leslie's was very helpful, thorough, and quick about their work. They did a water test for us and explained all of the chemicals needed and how to apply them to the tub. The water test results indicated exactly what measurements and chemicals were needed which made everything very straight forward and simple. Alexander did a great job of explaining how I should collect optimum water samples and was very matter of fact and low pressure. I was expecting to be sold a truck load of chemicals that I may not have needed and Alexander explained that all I really needed was outlined on the water test report. Let's just say I finally know why this location is not busy at all, I kept going to this location because it is closer to my house. The staff in this location is not very helpful and my pool turned back to green after it got better for 2 days. We followed the instructions step and step too. I have never had good customer when I go to this location. this is the last time I will bring my service to the Pittsburg store. extremely rude. I brought in a vacuum to have repaired. I was told they were really busy at the moment and to call back several days to get an eta. when I called back the agent had a shitty attitude and explained that he had told me he did not know when they will have time to look at it. I asked can u give me like a time frame. are we looking at a week or a month or two months? he said he would call me back later that day and tell me whether or not I should take it to another location. I never got that call so I called back several days later. again the employee was rude because I called back. yet he said he would call me. he explained no other stores would be able to help me. I call the concord store and they are super nice. she explains that she is not qualified to repair robotic vacuums. she told me to call pleasant hill. they are able to look at it and they have me a timeframe of about 3 weeks. pleasant hill was super friendly and nice. So I recently bought a house with a pool and I'm absolutely clueless about pool maintenance. My pool inspector told me I could bring a sample of my pool water here and they will test the ph of the water for free. When I walked in I was immediately greeted by the two employees working. I told them that I was beyond ignorant about my pool and needed help. The manager, Tyler went out of his way to help me. He even went as far as writing steps on the bottles of the pool supplies. Of course I'm writing notes down as if I'm in theory since my memory has deteriorated. He even threw in a free bottle of some acid to help balance the ph. I guess pools can be deceiving, as mine was crystal clear and blue. However, $150 later i walked out with a few bottles of some cleaner that apparently I need. I'm hoping I didn't get screwed as if I were a poor, naive girl taking her car to a greedy mechanic. We'll see next week when I take another sample back for another check up. read more

I cannot express how knowledgeable the gentleman behind the corner was. I love the fact that as a new home owner with a pool I can feel at ease that my chemical balances in my pool are correct. That the company wasn't trying to market me any of their products but helping me understand what is going on with my pool and how I could fix it if I chose their products or somewhere else, there was no pressure with it. I definitely will shop here again and use their FREE water chemical balance test for my pool instead of paying $150 a month for a pool service. read more

We have been giving Leslies most of our substantial pool maintenance business for almost 10 years. We purchased a Dolphin Pool cleaner about 8 years ago, and we absolutely loved it. Unfortunately, after so much use, it was not working as well as it should, so we took it into Leslies to have it repaired. We were informed that they no longer make parts for our pool cleaner, so they could not repair it. Since it still worked "ok" when we brought it in, we decided to pick it up to see if we could get through the summer with it. When we picked up our cleaner, the first thing I noticed was I was unable to open the bottom of it, which is where you put the bag which traps the leaves and debris. Well, the reason I couldn't open it is because Leslies literally crammed everything back inside and forced the bottom closed. After figuring this out, I carefully removed it and inside was my bag, which was not inside when I brought it to them, it was freshly cleaned and in a ziplock bag. They didn't put the bag on, they stuffed it in the bottom which caused the difficulty in opening. Ok, well i'll try it. I got it all ready, put it in the pool, and NOTHING. The pool cleaner (which was VERY expensive,when we purchased it, did not work AT ALL... Somehow, we brought our poorly performing cleaner in for repair and got it back not performing at all. NICE right? Upon further inspection, it appears that it was dropped, from a height. There are broken off pieces. This really pisses me off. We took great care of this pool cleaner, which had given us many good years. We even named it R2D2 ( lame I know). We cleaned and stored correctly, washed the bag, dried and put it all away in our Pool House. Never was it dropped, or had stuff crammed inside of it. It just amazes me, that something that belongs to someone else, something of great value no less, is treated with so little regard. While I've always liked going to Leslies to have my water tested, buy chemicals, pool covers, even pool toys, the carless handling of something we brought into have repaired has convinced me I will never return there. We have spent thousands of dollars at this store, and this is the consideration they show to long term, valued customers. Pools are not cheap. Pool cleaners are not cheap. Keeping your pool clean and sanitary is not cheap. Someone else will be getting our substantial business going forward. I can't begin to tell you how disappointed I am. I know this was probably "just an employee", but companies need to recognize that employees represent them, and propagating a careless culture can cost them more than they realize. These guys are knowledgeable, helpful and friendly to new pool users like myself. They had to order a part for me and told me a week but it ended up only taking a couple days which was a plus. They offer free repair services and free water testing as well. The young guy behind the counter knows his stuff and so does the manager. Downside is if the the store is busy you'll be waiting awhile to get served. read more

I can't help it, I need to go Leslie's for water testing, but I don't think I'm going any more. Some employees test the bare minimum (ph & chlorine), some do most of the tests, but their equipment sucks. The salt water testers are both highly inaccurate and the magnetic stirrer which helps speed up testing and ensure accuracy broke last year. I took water samples in last weekend to diagnose a problem with my chlorine generator (for a salt water pool). My first test was done with a little cup style tester which showed 1600ppm of salt (I should be at 3000). I added some salt and went back for another test, which showed 2300ppm using the stick-style tester. I bought more salt and tossed it in. I'm still having trouble with the swg (I now suspect the unit is dead), but I bought a salt water testing kit (Taylor K-1766) which was highly recommended on troublefreepool.com. When Amazon.com delivered it today my water test showed 4200ppm of salt! Now my pool is WAY over salted and the best advice so far is to replace almost 2000 gallons of water. I don't have any choice if I want to use my pool. California is in a drought people! I feel like an ass dumping that much water down the drain this summer. I have no choice though. Thanks Leslie's. Your testing equipment sucks and I'm buying my own full testing kit. The $65 I'll spend will save me the headaches of inaccurate or incomplete testing. Beware!!! Every time I go in this place it cost me $100 or more!! They're so expensive but other than online it's really the only place to get what you need. Maybe that's why they charge so much. But I recently went in there asking if they just sell the bag to replace the one on my vacuum the lady came over and picked up this thing and said you can tie it on. I questioned her and said it blows my mind I can't just replace this part. She again told me no! So I walked around to see if anything peeked my interest and low and behold found the bag replacement I needed. But it was $50 plus bucks so right there in the store I looked up the online price it was more than half the price showed the bag and the price to the lady and asked if I could use a coupon or get a discount. after reading the reviews I was a little daunted about going in, but I actually have to say that my experience was awesome. the young man, Jovantae is great. he is pretty knowledgeable and actually taught me a few things that I didn't know about my pool. one of those things is the weekly maintenance pool perfect/ phosfree, it is a game changer, I don't have any more algae problems. Staff was very friendly, but that's the only good thing I can say about the store. I called ahead then dropped off a vacuum (in early evening) to be repaired, & was told it would be looked at the next morning. 3-4 days later I called to see if I'd missed a message. I hadn't- it wasn't assessed yet. 1 week later I called & was told 2 parts had been ordered (without my permission or notification), & it was to be worked on the next day & I'd receive a call. It totalled $55. I said that's fine, & not too much money. No call came, 1 more week later I went it & was told it'd be worked on the next morning. I did get a call (for the 1st time) saying it was done (no total.) When I picked up the next day I was charged $109, for 5 parts. It doesn't appear any points went to my rewards account, nor was it ever mentioned on drop off or pick up. I feel completely ripped off, but couldn't wait any longer in the middle of the summer to get my vacuum back! (The tail also doesn't work, which wasn't an issue at all before.) read more

I might be jumping the gun with this review but I'll update as it carries out for the upcoming week. I read so much about starting up my own 3,500 gallon pool that I'm not sure what was true and what was false. I added in my water and started the pump did a test strip and of course chlorine was 0 and the ph and alkaline levels were perfect so I put in 6- 1" chlorine tablets, I now know it's not enough and 1" tabs dissolve too quickly (but it was recommend by the pool maker via instructions that came with the pool) my ph and alkalinity were perfect and of course that could change as the chlorine get cycled in it. With all the info in my little head I walk into Leslie's today and the guy was super nice and told me the 1" tablets are not good, great I get it! Sold me some shock and told me to dump a whole gallon into my SMALL pool at night when nobody is swimming and take him a sample tomorrow. Ok here's where I'm skeptical, I read online, and on the freakin box of shock that you use 64-128 oz for a 10,000 gallon pool. Mine is a third of that. So I'm wondering if he is trying to screw up my ph and alkaline levels with too much chlorine so he can sell me a bunch of shit tomorrow. I only added half and will let him test tomorrow and afterwards I'll tell him I only added half. I might be the smart one or I might be an idiot. We shall tell later on. The store can't run successfully if it does not sell you a bunch of shit and they can't make it by selling you a $9 box of liquid shock! I may only need that half gallon of chlorine! I've been going to this store for over 10 years....This year was it! i will never shop here again. Went in had a broken pool sweep, my husband just finished replacing parts, probably spent over $100 on parts, lady, not Lisa, looked at my pump said it was broken, tossed it in a box near the desk, I bought a new one.....My husband had me call back for our old part about 4 hours later and she said she threw it away said I need to look in the dumpster!!!! You KNOW you didn't throw parts that are brand new away!! So i was lied to and taken advantage of! Funny how the best reviews come from folks that are new to pool maintenance. I'd say Leslie's is great for walking in and buying the 1 or 2 things I buy there regularly like liquid chlorine or acid. Aside from that, it is very obvious that they are encouraged to sell products that are not needed. They sound very knowledgeable, but their pool care philosophy is one that requires a pretty high monthly spend. You'll also chase your tail trying to balance your water using their recommended products. If you're going to own a pool get a good, complete water testing kit and spend some time learning about water chemistry. That small research will save you $100's of dollars per year. Guaranteed. Besides liquid chlorine and acid I add very few chemicals to my pool. Know how many times it's been green? Zero. I recommend everyone read away at troublefreepools.com. Lastly, you'll notice if you shop online that Leslie's pool supplies are about 10% - 20% high. Good in a pinch, convenient location, usually friendly staff, but a very different pool water management philosophy. read more

So my grandma owns a pool and she is too old to take care for it anymore and wanted me to help out. I also know nothing about pools so I came across this store .. The man who helped me out Conner was so friendly and informative. Starting with the basics and answered all of my questions. He also suggested this cleaning product called Perfect that I never heard of. My pool has been so clear ever since .. It's always great to have someone be helpful and welcoming at a store especially when you know nothing about it !! He even wrote down how to deal with algae so I wouldn't forget . I used to help my dad install pools, so I am familiar with some ins and outs of chemicals and taking care of them. I left for vacation two weeks ago and came back to an nastyy green swamp in my backyard. Drove to Leslie's and spoke to a employee named Conor. I was skeptical at first taking advice from someone probably half my age, but he clearly knew what he was talking about. He grabbed me the chemicals I needed and wrote a sheet to follow for getting rid of the algae. As I was leaving he handed me a business card and said to call if I had any questions.
