I love this restaurant! Just tried it Dec. 2016
First, the food. If you know the Perren family in Zermatt (or of them, we've stayed at their hotel Jagerhoff the past years) you know that they have extreme passion and attention to detail when it comes to hospitality and service. It's not different at this restaurant. Very high quality food, great selection, it was hard to choose what to get! I got the Lamb Loin, and I loved it. I got it with spätzle, which was really nice since it was also sauteed in butter (that's what it tasted like) rather than just simply boiled and served. The red cabbage was very good too as a side. I also ordered the curry cream soup, very delicious without being too heavy.
All of the food (or a large majority of it, at least the meat) has either been raised or hunted by the family, which is pretty neat, making the food very fresh. And you can taste it. One person at the table ordered the meat plate (different meat selections including game meats such as Elk, Venison, Marmotte - ground hog, and Mountain Goat). It was fun to try and not as gamey as one might think. I would not order it though if you are a more conservative meat eater - they also have several steaks from beef! Also a salmon dish.
Now, GETTING to the restaurant is quite an adventure.
First, you can ski there and then ski back to Zermatt. I'm not a huge fan of skiing in the dark though, and our reservation was at 7pm, so we didn't do this option.
Second, take the gondola from Zermatt (fun to do at night!) up to Furi. A person from the restaurant will greet you there with a flashlight to lead you to the restaurant (it will be dark if you are there in winter)
Third, I assume you can take a taxi there (and back) from Zermatt, but it will be pricey (more than 100 CHF)
Now LEAVING
We walked back - followed the road to Zermatt (it was winter - there are also hiking trails you could walk back on if it's summer / warm and light / not snowy or icy) it took about 80 minutes, but it was nice to move after the meal! Warning, if its dark TAKE A FLASHLIGHT or have your cell phone charged up because there are NO lights on the road down. We used our cell phones. And looked up to the beautiful stars!
You could take the taxi - it's expensive but you could do it.
I don't think you can take the gondola down - we were not able to, I don't think it runs after a certain time. read more
