Texan reviewing a "Texan BBQ" joint! If I'm just being 100% honest..I was pretty let down. I had built it up in my head in anticipation to try. I got the famous oxtails bowl with Mac n cheese and then added a recommended side of gravy (which they forgot but I can get to that later). The oxtail was good and cooked to perfection. It was supposed to be big enough to share but for me it was definitely a single helping even with the Mac n cheese and I'm not a huge guy! The sauces were not very good at all. One BBQ and one buffalo type. Gravy was also not the best.. For $51 I would expect more for sure. BUT! It was still dang good! Some of the best BBQ in Utah! Now the service was 0 stars.. it was a girl who handed me the bag. It had my oxtail and Mac n cheese but no gravy or drinks. Supposed to come with two drinks I ordered and didn't get any. Went to Les BBQ for lunch today. Staff was super friendly and smiliing. I ordered the two meat meal - Brisquets and ribs. Food arrived fast and was so juicy and tender. The brisquet had a delicious seasoning. It was much more food that I could eat, so now I have my dinner meal all set to go also. This will be my new go-to barbeque joint. We have tried the ribs, oxtails, briskets and pulled pork pork's. Our resolutions is the oxtails are the best in taste and texture; next are the ribs. The meats texture of both are tender, moist and tasty. There were some hiccups on the front counter but the boss lady made it right. She definitely knows her customer services. Was in Utah for business and stopped by Les BBQ because I've been seeing the videos where he used to cook outside his house. All I can say is the person who left the review that said this bbq is like dickie's but more expensive was dead on. If you've had real Texas BBQ IN Texas then you know nobody is going to dickies unless they have no choice because that place is garbage. Well, this place was expensive garbage. Can't believe people are getting finessed in Utah with this 'Texas BBQ' and also charging $49.99 a pound for shipped mid oxtails. The only reason their rating is above 4 stars is they offer a free drink for a 5 star review. I told the cashier I'm not falling for that let me try the food and I'll buy my drink. BBQ was very good. Brisket was our favorite by far, but very disappointed that we paid for and DID NOT receive the oxtail, and was the one item that we all went for in the first place. Only two sides available when we went and neither were great. Finally, a legit BBQ joint in the state of Utah. This is Texas BBQ made with soul. I've had quite a few places here in Utah and all of them are absolute garbage, Les BBQ is the real deal. You won't find better BBQ in this state. We ordered the Ribs, Brisket, and Ox tail. Starting with the brisket.. it came out juicy, flavorful, and just amazing . You can tell that time, patience, and love was put into crafting an amazing cut of meat. You can't go wrong with this choice. It's top notch. Next.. the spare ribs, I've had more spare ribs than I can count. I can honestly say these are seriously so good. I normally don't go for the ribs at a BBQ place because brisket and sausages usually steal the show.. but these ribs are a real game changer. They are worth the visit alone. Finally the ox tail. There is a reason it's called "famous ox tail". Right during my first bite the owner walked up and asked me how my meal was. It was so damn good I was left speechless. I shot him a look that simply conveyed the message: "Thank you for the best damn bbq I've ever had." Everything else lives up to what I've hyped. Customer service, the sides, the atmosphere. Came here after a ski day for Some bbq, and was not disappointed. We shared the 4 piece meat, of ribs, brisket, oxtail and pork. My dear friend surprised me with an order shipped to my residence in Raleigh NC. I received one pound of candy and one pound of OG oxtails. The candy oxtails were delicious!! I was unable to consume the OG oxtails the bold flavor was too much they honestly tasted like they were bad(not fresh). They made sure that you were satisfied and the staff were fast. Owner was even around and it was good to see him around making sure that his customers were left satisfied. Place is small. I always love trying out BBQ places wherever I can find them. Just happened to be in Draper searching for an early dinner when Les BBQ popped up in the search. My wife and I walked in and were greeted to the usual loud country music you find in so many of these places. The staff were quite friendly and willing to answer questions and provide samples to help us decide what to order. Unfortunately they could not answer much about how the meats are prepared because it is cooked at some undisclosed central location they called the "canteen". An appropriate name since the quality of the meats was about the same as going to your average university cafeteria. So if you want to relive your college days in a cool and friendly atmosphere with sub par food this is a great place to eat. If you are looking for legit BBQ this ain't it. read more

Being from the South, I've purchased and eaten some of the best BBQ in my 50 plus years. LES BBQ in SLC was hands down the absolute best. We arrived as a family of five "after" 5 o'clock in the evening. Why is this important? The meat is cooked in the early hours of morning and served throughout the day. Late evening is when you observe the true artistry of the chef. The brisket had the right ration of meat to fat. The brisket melted in the mouth like butter. Pulled pork also succulent, juicy and tinder. The ribs were tender, flavorful, and seasoned to perfection but I do think they were slightly leaner than the other cuts. The ribs were extremely pleasurable but I would rate them behind the brisket and pulled pork. The establishment was extremely clean and his staff... if I had a SLC restaurant I would have recruited them for myself. The three gentlemen working 8/13 were putting out plates at the speed of fast food establishments. We received our condiments, food and drinks for five in less than 10 minutes. I was really looking forward to trying the famous smoked oxtails at Les BBQ and drove over 20 minutes just for that. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. The restaurant had very few tables and they were all full, so I had to take my food to go. When I got home, I realized my order was wrong -- the oxtails and dirty rice were missing, and I was given ribs and beans instead. I don't know if they mixed up my order or just forgot, but I was especially upset because I went there specifically for the oxtails. To make things worse, the ribs were dry and tough. The food here was AMAZING! So FULL of flavor! We were a little disappointed because we flew all the way here just to try the oxtails and they were sold out when we were there. My husband also ordered the oxtail sausage cabbage and did not get it. We didn't realize until we got back to the hotel. Its Friday and I hit the wall. After working all week, I am out of creativity, critical thought, or a clear direction on which way to go next on any project. So, I thought what about lunch today? What if I stopped and actually ate a non-working lunch. I remembered seeing something earlier in the morning about a new barbecue shop in Draper. Les BBQ Sandwiches. Their place is just minutes away so I rendezvoused there with my wife to assess what they might have on the menu. We both love BBQ. Good BBQ. Finding good BBQ, well that's another story. She's from Oklahoma and Texas, I've traveled to and through Oklahoma and Texas - a lot. So, needless to say we have over the course of our lives sampled and consumed a lot of Texas BBQ, notwithstanding Oklahoma, or that in Kansas City or Saint Louis. I pulled into the parking lot, and waited for my watch to click 11 AM, and her arrival. At 11:00 o'clock and 5 seconds I walked to the door and before opening it, was greeted with the great smell of proper smoke wafting in the air. I was no sooner inside and looking at a menu when person after person after person after a person filed in behind me, they must also have been waiting in their car for 11 to strike. As I looked at the menu, and texted back and forth with my wife about what she may like to eat I heard many orders going in for brisket sandwiches, baked potatoes with brisket, but in a great quantity was the request for the oxtail. Hmmm - oxtail. We finally settled on a rack of spareribs (Saint Louis cut), and a baked potato with brisket. The food came out quickly and with a smile from the staff. The ribs were probably the heaviest full rack I've received in ages and was anxious to open the lid. However, I noticed the potato and brisket had to weigh the same or more than the ribs. As you can see from the pictures the portions were quite worth the dollar. We should probably admit that we are brisket and rib snobs which is why we went to those items first, as those two must be spot on - if you're going to sustain and grow a business. With the first rib picked up - the smell of sweet saturating smoke overtook my thoughts as it neared my face. Nice smoke ring and the obviosity of tenderness as I watched the first drop of juice drop right onto my shirt. LOL The ribs are done masterfully with a nice resistant bite and pull and an absence of toughness. The rub is perfect to the palate and the first thing that crossed my mind was the Salt Lick in Driftwood Texas. Wow the rub is outstanding and balanced to the meat and the depth of the smoke - a rib like none I have had outside of Texas. For the potato - it looked the size of a child's football, or it has to be a gigantic Idaho Russet-Burbank, splayed open and topped well with butter, chives, cheese and sour cream (we asked for the brisket on the side and had already eaten some before the pic). The potato was perfectly baked and the brisket...the brisket was a good-sized serving with an addictive bark, evidence of a deep purple smoke ring and moist and juicy the whole way through. Wow. Wow. We have been searching for good ribs and brisket for a long time and found some that were good, most that were meh but these - here they are! BAM And although the house BBQ sauce is good - do not put sauce on these ribs or brisket before trying them naked. We ate until we were done - and there was lots left. We packed our stuff (leftovers to share at home) and as we were - more customers keep coming in the store. Most are asking for oxtail. So.....well... should we try the oxtail? Once you place your eyes on a bowl of the oxtail - you have to try the oxtail. I am an oxtail fan - prepared many ways over the years, but not Les's way. So, we got a bowl to take home. Then we asked about the mac & cheese. No cheese sauce here we were informed but real made in the pan oven baked M&C. So, then came another order - some for later with that oxtail. So, now we had the leftover bag and the new bag of M&C and oxtail. On the table was this lonely fork just lying there. What should we do, put the fork in the bag and take it along? NO! Let's try the oxtail and M&C NOW. M&C - yep - spot on. I could find myself facedown with a bowl of mac & cheese topped with brisket any day. Try the M&C. The quick sample of oxtail: nice bark, good smoke, MOIST, tender and absolutely delish. Cannot wait to dig into it right later - it will be killer. IMHO not Texas-style BBQ, but dang-straight Texas BBQ - here in Draper. Absolutely great people running the restaurant, absolute smokingly good food - we will be back. We will be back. At 11:00. Was in Utah for the Nationals Junior Volleyball championship tournament and my barber suggested I go to Les bbq. He follows Les bbq on YouTube and it's on his bucket list. Well neither I nor my family was disappointed. Les bbq had no misses. We had the oxtail and beef sausage, the brisket, spare ribs, and chicken for the proteins. Unfortunately they had sold out of the smoked oxtails, which is why I wanted to come but even without the signature smoked oxtails we were not disappointed. The dirty rice was perfect, the bbq beans were hearty and delicious, the loaded half was off the chain, and the Mac and cheese was the best we ever had, this came from my wife and kids who are mac and cheese snobs, lol. This was not only the best bbq spot we have been but this is in our top 3 places to eat in our humble opinions. The service was on point. as well. I have had BBQ in Kansas and Texas and this place is seriously legit! Service was great, fast and friendly. It's a fairly small place so there isn't a huge amount of seating so be prepared if you have a large group.
