Native Texan here. Was excited to try this place. Staff is super friendly and helpful. Had the loaded baked potato. Just...no. Processed liquid cheese instead of the real thing? Not good. Its Friday and I hit the wall. After working all week, I am out of creativity, critical thought, or a clear direction on which way to go next on any project. So, I thought what about lunch today? What if I stopped and actually ate a non-working lunch. I remembered seeing something earlier in the morning about a new barbecue shop in Draper. Les BBQ Sandwiches. Their place is just minutes away so I rendezvoused there with my wife to assess what they might have on the menu. We both love BBQ. Good BBQ. Finding good BBQ, well that's another story. She's from Oklahoma and Texas, I've traveled to and through Oklahoma and Texas - a lot. So, needless to say we have over the course of our lives sampled and consumed a lot of Texas BBQ, notwithstanding Oklahoma, or that in Kansas City or Saint Louis. I pulled into the parking lot, and waited for my watch to click 11 AM, and her arrival. At 11:00 o'clock and 5 seconds I walked to the door and before opening it, was greeted with the great smell of proper smoke wafting in the air. I was no sooner inside and looking at a menu when person after person after person after a person filed in behind me, they must also have been waiting in their car for 11 to strike. As I looked at the menu, and texted back and forth with my wife about what she may like to eat I heard many orders going in for brisket sandwiches, baked potatoes with brisket, but in a great quantity was the request for the oxtail. Hmmm - oxtail. We finally settled on a rack of spareribs (Saint Louis cut), and a baked potato with brisket. The food came out quickly and with a smile from the staff. The ribs were probably the heaviest full rack I've received in ages and was anxious to open the lid. However, I noticed the potato and brisket had to weigh the same or more than the ribs. As you can see from the pictures the portions were quite worth the dollar. We should probably admit that we are brisket and rib snobs which is why we went to those items first, as those two must be spot on - if you're going to sustain and grow a business. With the first rib picked up - the smell of sweet saturating smoke overtook my thoughts as it neared my face. Nice smoke ring and the obviosity of tenderness as I watched the first drop of juice drop right onto my shirt. LOL The ribs are done masterfully with a nice resistant bite and pull and an absence of toughness. The rub is perfect to the palate and the first thing that crossed my mind was the Salt Lick in Driftwood Texas. Wow the rub is outstanding and balanced to the meat and the depth of the smoke - a rib like none I have had outside of Texas. For the potato - it looked the size of a child's football, or it has to be a gigantic Idaho Russet-Burbank, splayed open and topped well with butter, chives, cheese and sour cream (we asked for the brisket on the side and had already eaten some before the pic). The potato was perfectly baked and the brisket...the brisket was a good-sized serving with an addictive bark, evidence of a deep purple smoke ring and moist and juicy the whole way through. Wow. Wow. We have been searching for good ribs and brisket for a long time and found some that were good, most that were meh but these - here they are! BAM And although the house BBQ sauce is good - do not put sauce on these ribs or brisket before trying them naked. We ate until we were done - and there was lots left. We packed our stuff (leftovers to share at home) and as we were - more customers keep coming in the store. Most are asking for oxtail. So.....well... should we try the oxtail? Once you place your eyes on a bowl of the oxtail - you have to try the oxtail. I am an oxtail fan - prepared many ways over the years, but not Les's way. So, we got a bowl to take home. Then we asked about the mac & cheese. No cheese sauce here we were informed but real made in the pan oven baked M&C. So, then came another order - some for later with that oxtail. So, now we had the leftover bag and the new bag of M&C and oxtail. On the table was this lonely fork just lying there. What should we do, put the fork in the bag and take it along? NO! Let's try the oxtail and M&C NOW. M&C - yep - spot on. I could find myself facedown with a bowl of mac & cheese topped with brisket any day. Try the M&C. The quick sample of oxtail: nice bark, good smoke, MOIST, tender and absolutely delish. Cannot wait to dig into it right later - it will be killer. IMHO not Texas-style BBQ, but dang-straight Texas BBQ - here in Draper. Absolutely great people running the restaurant, absolute smokingly good food - we will be back. We will be back. At 11:00. Bro I had to drive to Washington and back to Dallas. So I made the detour with my family thru Utah just to support the homie from TX. Man I was disappointed that the store had ran out of softballs and nuggets, and chicken. I don't eat pork but the brisket was slamming. Sad I didn't get what I came for and been longing for but happy cuz if u sold out, that means the store is popping. I was really looking forward to trying the famous smoked oxtails at Les BBQ and drove over 20 minutes just for that. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. The restaurant had very few tables and they were all full, so I had to take my food to go. When I got home, I realized my order was wrong -- the oxtails and dirty rice were missing, and I was given ribs and beans instead. I don't know if they mixed up my order or just forgot, but I was especially upset because I went there specifically for the oxtails. To make things worse, the ribs were dry and tough. The food here was AMAZING! So FULL of flavor! We were a little disappointed because we flew all the way here just to try the oxtails and they were sold out when we were there. My husband also ordered the oxtail sausage cabbage and did not get it. We didn't realize until we got back to the hotel. I ended up getting the ribs Mac and cheese and dirty rice and it was sooo good! My husband got the brisket dirty rice and the oxtail sausage cabbage (which he actually didn't get in his plate) and the brisket has a lot of flavor as well. Overall very great food! read more

Was in Utah for the Nationals Junior Volleyball championship tournament and my barber suggested I go to Les bbq. He follows Les bbq on YouTube and it's on his bucket list. Well neither I nor my family was disappointed. Les bbq had no misses. We had the oxtail and beef sausage, the brisket, spare ribs, and chicken for the proteins. Unfortunately they had sold out of the smoked oxtails, which is why I wanted to come but even without the signature smoked oxtails we were not disappointed. The dirty rice was perfect, the bbq beans were hearty and delicious, the loaded half was off the chain, and the Mac and cheese was the best we ever had, this came from my wife and kids who are mac and cheese snobs, lol. This was not only the best bbq spot we have been but this is in our top 3 places to eat in our humble opinions. The service was on point. as well. We reached to place an order around 3:15 pm and was told it would be 30 mins. After around 45 minutes someone came out and told us 45 minutes until done . After another 45 minutes we were told the braised oxtails they had were reserved for VIP since they purchased tables. As much as I wanted to give a good review I just can't. I think if the meals are already preset up as a platter have it ready. If VIP takes priority have that posted somewhere so people are aware. Have the prices stated and that there are additional options( this being on a flyer or posted on social media), have everyone on one page( people couldn't give answers and everyone was running around to find out.). Many of us waited outside for hours only to be disappointed. There should have been a separate event rather than having it all together. These are mistakes that yes can be corrected (maybe ) but when so many people aren't given answers, and things aren't transparent you receive the reviews that you get. I know there will be many reviews from many many people that aren't good vs the reviews of the small select of VIP table recipients that paid. Their money or business was worth more I guess. I grew up in Texas with barbecue being a part of my culture. Good barbecue is one thing that I've been missing since moving to Utah. Les has literally brought Texas to Utah with his barbecue. It's the best barbecue in Utah by far and rivals the best I've ever had. I have had BBQ in Kansas and Texas and this place is seriously legit! Service was great, fast and friendly. It's a fairly small place so there isn't a huge amount of seating so be prepared if you have a large group. Ok so for starters, how often do you see the owner of the company working side by side with their employees? Next the establishment itself. The minute you get out your vehicle that smoke hits you in the face. So you know that smoke is what's to be expected in the food. The cleanliness of the inside and outside of this place speaks volumes of how this establishment takes pride in not just their food but also the appearance of the place. No let's talk about the food. I ordered (2) 3 meat plates with Mac and cheese, sausage and cabbage as my sides. For my meats I ordered the chicken, ribs, brisket and of course the "Oxtails "! The smoke ring I saw in the meats told me the story about how Mr Les takes pride in his craft! He has definitely mastered his technique and flavors and is representing the bbq culture of the state of Texas!! The chicken is moist, tender, flavorful. As was the ribs, brisket and the sides are very delicious. Now, let's talk about these oxtails I keep hearing about. I took my first bite of one of these oxtails and let me tell you something I damn near passed out! I was overwhelmed with smoked, very tender, very flavorful, very delicious "OXTAILS "!!! I had the worst experience on my second visit. I enjoyed it so much the first time I traveled from Dallas to Utah for some more oxtails. I tried calling in and nobody answers the phone. I went to Les BBQ to try the ox tails. It was very tasty from the seasonings and tender in the inside. Mash potatoes were delicious too. Service was good and the place was clean and welcoming. Les Barbecue is delicious! The chicken is to die for. The brisket is so tender, there is no need for a knife. The pulled pork sandwich is amazing. They have great sides, including mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, beans, and dirty rice. I wish they offered Cole slaw as I like to add that to pulled pork. Will definitely be back many times. Only negative is that there are no tables to eat at other than two small two person off to the side. So plan on take out and they have a drive thru. Best bbq in the state, hands down. Brisket is tender and juicy every time. Pork is succulent and delicious. Chicken is juicy and not dry. The sides are always delicious and complement the meat well. Been there 4 times never had the opportunity to try. 1st time there was 2 people separately waiting for orders no one came to take my order as I Stood at the register for 5 minutes. I left, the next time I Witnessed a employee taking out the trash then went behind the counter and started preparing food. The 3rd time was like the first. I went to the register and stood there 45 minutes again no employee acknowledged me no employee came to take my order. Then today I tried the Drive through i order and tried to pay & was told we don't take 100$ bills or 50's. I try to support this business but the service is Severely lacking. Bro hire new people. Was good. As a Texan I found it slightly over priced. There were no real sides other than chips. There also was no iced tea.

First off, the price of oxtails compared to the portion is absolutely amazing! When I lifted it from the container to the plate, it fell apart. That is what made me come here; the presentation of the videos on Instagram. It didn't fail me. My husband is from Atlanta and explained the banana pudding as "something else," and it made him look around in disbelief. Five stars aren't enough. Les BBQ was fantastic!! However we went there tonight it was not good at all. I ordered briskuit and chicken and only got brisket. The brisket was very tough. Double check your order!!!! Not sure what is going on there. I used to be able to cut the brisket with a fork. Not now. Very tough!! So sad to see this! Spent over $45.00 and it was substandard. Not sure what happened.
