I was looking forward to going to Leonard's long before our trip to Oahu, and for the duration after our visit wondered if we would return. Wow. The wait outside is reminiscent of standing in line outside Voodoo Doughnut in Portland. Drivers fighting for parking spots in the small lot, hungry-for-fried-dough patrons impatiently queueing,... The end result is however far more satisfying, in my opinion. Masaladas malasadas malasadas. The original is sugary fried dough perfection, with dough that is chewier and more substantial than a bread doughnut but somehow feels less heavy when eaten fresh. The custard-filled ones are also tasty but I don't think you can improve on the original. read more

This place is open for business. I decided to try malasada puff. This thing is mean!! Broke the mouth and diet mean! I ended up ordering 3 each,Custard, haupia, and dobash. The Malasada is airy and super soft on the inside. Prices are very reasonable considering it's great flavor. When arriving just know the wait is between 10 to 15 minutes swing these are all made to order to ensure the freshness. read more

Location is key to get fresh malasadas - no need drive to Kapahulu. Plain malasadas key for those who can still enjoy their malasadas cause dietary reasons of caution; and still enjoy with others especially family & friends who get plenty sweet choices of malasadas pleasure. No can beat that! Everybody can have Leonard Malasadas! Go get some. read more

May be I expected a lot from this so my rating might be biased based on personal preference. The line wasn't long at all at the truck so that's a plus. It's too greasy for me and too much powder sugar that the donut filling and the flavor isn't that powerful. I am comparing the bread to Randy's donut in LA so my standard ruler are pretty high. 2/5. The flavor of masaladas - Panderia Bakery in OC has better flavor in my opinions. We tried 6 donuts for 3 people for each bites each flavor and it was mediocre. Out of all the flavor I would say custard is the best. read more

Delicious and must try. Leonard's is a legendary bakery which provides the most delicious malasadas on the island. Their main store on 933 Kapahulu Ave, Honolulu, HI 96816 always has a long line so I always go out to their food truck at 7190 Kalanianaole Hwy, Honolulu, HI 96825 since it is always on our daily path. Malasadas go well with coffee and can be enjoyed throughout the day. If you are visiting Oahu, this is one stop you foot want to miss. read more

Not to many places have left me speechless when it comes to food or pastries. The review deserves Diamond Rating across the spectrum. One of my coworkers told me before I leave Honolulu is to try the breakfast pastries at Leonards's Bakery. I must say they did not disappoint at all. Everything came out fresh and hot. Everything is made to order, so you may wait few minutes but its worth it. When visit Leonard's I strongly suggest to have milk or water with the pastries trust me you will need it. Have your coffee before or after. I had the following: Two Original Puffs, Two Cinnamon Puffs and One Cinnamon Cream Puff. When you are in a new place or new area, I always like to know where the locals eat. It's all about the experience and the bonding with the locals. I've been eating Leonard's maladadas all my life and I recommend it to the tourist all the time but yesterday I was in this area and I was hesitant to get malasadas because well I don't need them, but I did anyway. I'm so glad I did because those were the best malasadas I have had. Omg talk about perfection! Awesome job to the 2 guys that made them I'm so glad I gave them a tip and that I stopped there. Was not up for waiting in line for an hour at the main store so stopped by here for breakfast on the way to kualoa ranch - no lines at all! We asked for "one of each kind" of the 6 which ends up around 9-10$. Our favorites were the custard filled one and the plain (altho all were pretty good). I sampled a bite of each flavor, finished the plain one, and proceeded into a happy food coma!! read more

Wanted to try the lunch truck and the malasadas tasted as good as the restaurant. We even got ours here faster than the restaurant. Ordered the 6 pack and the haupia was my favorite. I tried to eat the other half 2 days later but didn't taste the same. Eat them while they're fresh! read more

The malasadas are decent but there's too much filling. It's very messy and a bit overpowering. Additionally I only ordered 3 yet she charged me for 5 (my fault I should've been paying attention). Overall pretty good but definitely scummy to charge like that. read more

If you're only selling one thing do it to perfection. That's the case at Leonard's. We have found the trucks have a thicker, denser, larger Malasada than the main bakery. Neither disappoints. We've tried the Regular, Creams, chocolates and cinnamons. Each has their place but Sugar and Cinnamons are the faves. No wrong choices to be had. Trucks are much faster than the bakery strictly due to volume of customers. read more

I'm so glad I came to this location because there was barely a line. The one in Honolulu is crazy long. We got a half dozen donuts (one of each) for under $10 which is pretty great price. Overall I liked them! They were soft and sugary and the chocolate filling was delicious. Still I like the heavier donuts that you get in chicago better. read more

My advice is to eat them as soon as you can. The malasadas are not-so-great as left-overs but incredible when you get them fresh off the truck. You will typically wait in line but the smell of fresh malasadas makes the wait worthwhile. read more

You know when you see the Leonard's red & white Malasada mobile on the corner of Haiku Rd and Kamehameha hy at the Windward Mall , you've hit the jackpot! They would park there periodically throughout the year for around 2-3 weeks, always being replaced by Christmas trees during December. So if you needed to get your Malasada fix, don't say "tomorrow" because they might not be there.... UNTIL NOW! *Whistling & jumping in the air, clicking heels* Hubby and I stopped by when we saw there wasn't a huge line, and asked the girl how long will they be here and she said "forever"!! A "Malasada" is a hot Portuguese doughy ball that is either rolled in different flavors of sugar or stuffed with heavenly creaminess of either chocolate, vanilla or coconut haupia. And now they have Li-Hing sugar ones too, woo hoo, which are now my favorite. The key to eating a Malasada is to eat it right away or in the next few hours if you can. There not like doughnuts that last a few days, they're greasy and soak up the sugar if you wait. They can be pricey, $1-1.50 each but worth it while they're hot. So next time you're in Kaneohe and you see the Malasada mobile, you can stop by today, tomorrow or whenever now! read more

This is my 1st time trying Leonard's Malasadas, their foodtruck is just few blocks from where I live tho haven't got chances to buy not until today (coz everytime I wanna try it out the are baked goodies at home ) and today finally tried it. Malasadas are freshly cooked, it's so soft, smooth, ahhhhh! So good! This is a must whenever you guys visit Hawaii Btw, I got 2 pcs each of Haupia, cinnamon and original. Jesus Christ himself should make these things illegal. I cannot tell you how incredibly good deep fried and rolled in sugar and cinnamon big ass dough balls really are. You gotta to try one, or two. Even the custard one was legit. I've decided that if I know when it's my time to go, I'm going to fly back to Oahu and have my last meal here. read more

It was a late afternoon on a weekday and I happened to be driving by when the "malasadas" sign caught my eye. I hadn't tried one before (it's a Portuguese donut, but with an island twist like coconut filling) so was eager! There wasn't any other customers at the time, so I thought they were closed, but they weren't! Ordered a few malasadas -- the warm, fresh dough was the best, and the filling wasn't very sweet at all (which is perfect; i don't like sickeningly sweet deserts). If you go to the shops in the city, they'll have long lines filled w tourists. I went to the truck in the neighborhood to avoid long lines. If you never had a Malasada, I would suggest getting just 1. They are massive, dense, and greasy. I bought 12 to take it back to Cali. After getting home to Cali, the box it came in was seeped with oil to the point the white sugar on the Malasadas sucked up the oil. It was my first time trying a Malasada and I know it's the local's favorite. I would not try another Malasada as it is very heavy and greasy. If I knew how they actually were, I wouldn't have bought 12, just for it to be thrown out :( Giving it a 5 star bc I think the Malasadas are supposed to be heavy, dense, and greasy and people just happen to love it like that (?). read more

I've had Leonard's malasadas on a past trip to Honolulu. I just thought it was okay as I'm not a fan of the cream filled puffs. However on this visit, my husband wanted to try it out and when we saw there was a Leonard's bakery truck in a parking lot, we decided to stop by. Leonard's is a popular spot for tourists and locals. The malasadas are basically a fried donuts with flavored cream inside served hot! Their storefront location always has a huge line beginning in the morning and the parking lot is small so it's a pain to get parking. We had no patience to wait in line at the storefront so when we saw the food truck on our way back from North Shore, we were thrilled. There was hardly any line and even though the menu is limited for the truck, we were happy they offered the regular cinnamon sugar malasadas with no cream inside. It was made fast and my husband really enjoyed it. It's very flaky and not overly sweet. I got filled taking 2. Leonard's is definitely worth visiting. Just keep in mind there isn't too much variety of the malasadas in the food truck. read more

first malasada experience and wow it was worth it! after hearing it's a must-do on the island, I finally convinced my family to go after multiple tries and I'm so glad I did. we went at 8am on a saturday and there was no line! only two people waiting who had already ordered. I was shocked after seeing the line at the main location that there was no line here. we ordered a dozen plain and some chocolate filled to bring home- they were unfortunately out of custard filling which was very disappointing. they cook to order, so they were piping hot when given to us 5 minutes later. I ate one as soon as we got to the car, and while it may have burned my fingers, it was well worth it. nothing beats a hot pastry! the sugar coating was deliciously crunchy, the malasada was deliciously doughy. the chocolate filled was a tasty chocolate, but I think the original one is the winner. definitely recommend grabbing some from one of the trucks if you're near! read more

Finally got to try these delicious treasures that should never be grouped with an ordinary donut. I was so excited when I ordered a dozen for my family and a bus loaded with tourist ordered after I had paid and was waiting and were served before me. However, the Garlic Butter Shrimp was horrible. It was probably the worst I have had in a very long time. The large photos on the actual menu inside the restaurant show large, unpeeled shrimp. What we actually got was small, already-peeled shrimp that tasted more like freezer burn than actual garlic butter. The service issues continued when I picked up the food. I noticed my Coke was missing and asked for it. The lady handing out the food asked the cashier if I had been charged for a soda, and the cashier said no. I know for a fact I paid for it after doing the math myself. There were other people waiting in line behind me, so I just said forget it, took my food, and left. Go for the pork belly, but skip the shrimp, double-check your receipt, and prepare for a cold shoulder at the counter.

Greeted immediately by the guys behind the counter, my daughter and I already knew what we wanted, so we got the fried rice adobo, pork adobo and pancit to go. When I say comfort food, after one bite I was brought back to when I was little and my mom making these for us. I'm looking forward to going back and trying their other offerings. The lumpia was crispy & hot and loaded! So much yum. The ordering system worked perfectly and the lady was super nice. All of my coworkers were talking about how good the pork adobo and guisantes was. They said they are usually at Bellows Beach Park. I know what I'm getting next time I'm over there!

Another man comes out and says, "he's waiting for someone," okay, I respond with a smile, can he pull up so I can leave? Kid relays the message. Owner aggressively slamms on gas spinning out the tires. As I'm pulling through, the kid scolds, "this isn't a roundabout. " I said yea, I'm a customer. I thought you were open. He goes well "We aren't so leave" motioning with his arm. I guess the bummer part, is I really like this place. The food is good. But I won't help companies who are shit to others.
