Baked oysters and wings 10/10

Stumbled upon this place while visiting Annapolis and it ended up being the best restaurant we tried all weekend. Stopped in for lunch and everything was excellent--friendly staff, quick service, and outstanding food. Definitely a spot I'll return to next time I'm visiting.

Catfish carbonara

Went here with friends on a Saturday night after listening to live music. We didn't have reservations and waited for a table. We didn't have to wait long as a family with a baby was about to leave. I looked around and the space is modern and clean. There is a bar area that is well lit and inviting if I was dining by myself. The menu isn't your typical Italian menu. There was a chicken fried tofu appetizer, steak frites, smash burgers and snakehead. I don't know what snakehead is so ai went with the catfish carbonara, my friend had the steak frites and my other friend had the Brussel sprouts appetizer and pear salad. We also shared a bottle of red wine. Our dessert was a deconstructed sundae with cannoli bits and delicious. Our server was Brendan and he was fantastic. He answered our questions and checked in and chatted with us for a bit. Highly recommend this restaurant.

We stopped by Leo Annapolis for dinner. We arrived at the perfect time; we found a parking space pretty close to the restaurant and it was not super busy yet. It's not a huge restaurant, but nothing is wrong with that. Lighting is dim which sets a nice mood. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The drinks I had were pretty average. But the food was not. For the appetizer we got the Brussel Sprout Gratin. I believe I've had something similar at other restaurants but this one is how I think this dish is supposed to be to be made. Everything was balanced; the perfect amount of cream sauce (the brussel sprouts weren't drowning in it), the breadcrumbs added another texture, and the small pieces of bacon added a little more salt. The steak and fries were good as well. The pepper corn sauce was the best. I sopped my potatoes in it and the combo was so good. I wouldn't get the potatoes again though. They definitely had the beef fat flavor going on but they were missing something by themselves. Now for the winner, the Chicken Roulade was surprisingly amazing. I almost never get chicken at restaurants. It's so basic, but this dish wasn't basic at all. The meat was wrapped in a thin layer of chicken skin which added a crunchy texture. The chicken was moist and seasoned perfectly. The sauce had a little sweetness to it but not overpowering. I would get this again and again.

The place was nicely decorated and it was packed when I went at 6:30pm on a Saturday night. The only issue was the noise level is a bit high. Also there was a woman who came in wearing a tube top that was pulled down and her nipple was showing! Not the restaurant's fault but I felt that the host could've said something. I guess it could be good or bad for the business depending on who's looking. Food was fantastic. I had the Maryland crab soup which was rich in flavor although a tad on the salty side. For entrees, my friend had the kale Caesar with grilled chicken (which he loved) and I had the grilled scallops (which I loved as well). We finished with a peanut butter mousse dessert. Our server was very good and refilled out drinks before we even had to ask Overall a great experience.

We visited Leo's on a moderately busy Saturday evening and opted for the outdoor seating since the weather was too pleasant to pass up. The service struck that perfect balance--gracious and consistent, warm without ever feeling smothering. I did sneak a peek inside, and the space itself is worth noting: a thoughtful balance of minimalism and opulence. It doesn't feel sparse, but it also avoids being overdone--just the right touch of polish and atmosphere. The food was solid across the board. The she-crab soup was a creative interpretation--spicier than the Maryland versions I'm used to, but the nod to Old Bay was clear and welcome. The house salad was bright and refreshing, elevated by a wonderful ginger dressing that made it memorable. The steak and fries came with a sauce that I'm still thinking about--it tied the whole dish together. Next time, I'd order the medallions medium rare, as the medium came out a bit firm. But the true star of the show? The burger. Two thin patties with crispy, caramelized edges and a juicy, succulent center--seasoned to absolute perfection. The meat itself tasted fresh and high-quality, and the lightly buttered bun brought everything together. Honestly, it's one of the best burgers I've had--easily in my top five. Leo's delivered on both food and hospitality, and I'll definitely be back.

Beet Salad

My husband and I had dinner at Leo this past Friday before a concert down the street at Rams Head on Stage Annapolis. We had a reservation, but - at least this early on a Friday night (our reservation was for 6:15) - I don't you necessarily need one. We were immediately sat down at our table and greeted by their very friendly staff. I would say Leo is somewhere between Modern American and Southern. We shared a few dishes: golden crispy grits (fried grit cakes with mixed pickles and hot sauce aioli); the citrus-marinated beet salad (red and golden beets, tahini, hazelnuts, sesame, arugula, a cilantro dressing, and Cara Cara oranges); the smash burger (dry-aged patties, cheddar, pickles, onion, and Leo sauce on brioche with fries); and a fried catfish sandwich. I thought the grits were fun but not super flavorful without the hot sauce aioli and pickles. The beet salad was good; the cilantro dressing made it different from a lot of other beet salads I've had, and I enjoyed that. The catfish sandwich was good, but I liked the smash burger better. I was very tempted by a dessert they had (strawberry shortcake funnel cake), but we were - sadly - too full to try it. I had a glass of wine (Gruner Veltliner from Austria) and one cocktail (a blood orange margarita), which were both good. My husband stuck to The Primary (a mix of rye and amaros), which he enjoyed enough to have more than one. The restaurant is attractive, comfortable, and casual (people were dressed very casually inside and it was totally appropriate, but you could also dress up a bit if you want, because it's a nice enough space that you wouldn't stand out dressed up). The service was top-notch. Our server was lovely - friendly, helpful, but other staff also checked on us and brought dishes over. We felt very taken are of. Our food at Leo didn't blow us away. But incredible service and good vibes make it well deserving of a four star review for me.

Espresso Martini
Troy C.

Stopped by Leo in the historic district of Annapolis and loved their happy hour drink menu! They have four choices for $7 all night Monday thru Thursday and 4-6 on Friday and Saturday! The bartender is super friendly and it wasn't too busy which was also a plus. The espresso martinis are fantastic. They used a variety of chocolate liquor in the mix that blends so well with the rest of the drink. I didn't order them, but the vodka martinis and aperol spritz also looked fantastic! I highly recommend stopping by for a drink, or two at Leo if you are in the area! The Happy Hour cannot be beat!

Outside of the restaurant

In town for the Annapolis Cup Croquet Match and stumbled upon Leo Annapolis while looking for a place to have dinner. We didn't have a reservation, but luckily were able to be seated after about 10 minutes. The restaurant looked busy-- all the bar seating was filled and tables inside were all accounted for. There is also seating outside. Our waiter was great and very quick to refill our water and take our order. He was extremely attentive and very friendly. As for the food, we shared the fried grits and for mains-- my friend had the quarter chicken and I had the smash burger. The chicken was seasoned really well and cooked perfectly! He did mention the portion size is a little bit on the smaller size. The smash burger was nothing special, and pretty on par for other burgers I've had in the past.

Eboni F.

The service was excellent. Brendan, and the other waitstaff and manager were very attentive. I went with Brendan's recommendation which was the special that night, a seared scallops and grits dish, and it was A-MAZING! The chili brussel sprouts were phenomenal too. The drink was interesting. I would highly recommend dining here if you're ever in the area.

Margarita
Shannon A.

Stopped in for appetizers and cocktails and did not disappoint! Focaccia was delicious! This margarita was also fantastic l!

Mac and cheese with chicken and crab
Rebecca K.

We went to Leo Annapolis for lunch today and it was great. I had the chicken and crab mac and cheese and my husband had the smash burger. Both were delicious and really hit the spot. Our waitress Kennedi took great care of us and made the experience really enjoyable. She found out it was our anniversary and put a cute note card on the table. Went an extra step to make us feel soe We'll definitely be back when we are back in the area.

Leo is a must visit restaurant in Annapolis for foodies. I was so impressed with their apps from the start: celery bisque was delish and comforting and their Delicata & ricotta is a brilliant app. I love how the chef came up with the concept of a cold squash dish: the fresh veggies and ricotta cheese made this dish perfect. Blue catfish did not disappoint either. Loved the mushroom topping on the catfish. Unfortunately their cocktails didn't live up to their food: they were a-OK. Winter mule was nice but Manhattan and espresso martini, not so much. Otherwise, Leo is a dynamite spot for foodies and I will be returning on my next Annapolis visit.

Special drink for pride month

So cute and food was yummy. Went with waiters suggestion of catfish toast which I would have never chosen but so good. Then Brussels Sprouts were a good kick and couldn't leave without peanut butter mousse.

We were immediately greeted and taken care of, which was a great start! The crispy kale was HANDS DOWN one of the best kale dishes I've ever had!!! It was so good that I'd honestly come back just for that alone. I also ordered the crab bucatini, which was delicious! The pasta was perfectly al dente, and I loved all the different textures and flavors in the dish. I'll admit, looking at the menu, I initially thought this might be one of those overly hippie places that tries a little too hard, with a limited selection that doesn't necessarily look all that appetizing on paper. But wow, was I wrong! Don't let the menu fool you. This place is absolutely worth trying, and the crispy kale alone is reason enough to stop by! They also make their own soda! My one gripe is the "labor of love" tax. I'm not the biggest fan of these extra fees, especially when you're already paying for your meal and tipping. That said, the food was genuinely delicious, and I'd still recommend giving this place a try! Plenty of seating inside, outside, and at the bar!

None of us had ever been there, so we were in the dark about the food and everything else. Our waiter was efficient and competent, but we all found him aloof. It would have been nice to have a smile and a willingness to describe the dishes. We ordered a variety of dishes, and we all agreed that the crispy kale was a big hit. I wish I had taken pictures of the food. It was all good, including the Bloody Mary and the cold brew. Deducted a star for the waiter's attitude, not having more specific egg dishes, avocado toast (I was so craving it), or espresso drinks. Overall, we loved it, and we all look forward to going back, especially knowing what to expect-and what not to.

We arrived to a mostly empty restaurant with lots of available seating...or so we thought. After waiting several minutes at the front before the hostess returned to seat us, we were taken to a booth that was imminently next to other guests and were informed the next both over, entire row near the back and the entire row next to the patio were reserved (for a parties that didn't arrive the entire time we were there) when we asked if anywhere else was available. Avoid the air fried chicken products - the chicken tenders and chicken sandwich were both paper thin and extremely dry. Our server seemed as though she would rather be anywhere else than serving our table, food was delivered by someone in a "chef's" coat, drinks were refilled by another server who happened to be walking by and noticed our glasses were empty and a manger checked in on us (who we shared our concerns with and who offered a replacement option) all while our server took care of another table, or sat in a private dining room at the back of the restaurant chatting with other staff. As for the ambiance - there really isn't any other than open and bright? Maybe it's better later in the evening or on the weekend, but as far as week nights - it's fairly mainstream. We keep returning to True Food as the healthier option hoping that the service, food quality and execution will someday match the price and location; however, this was likely our last experience.

It was a fun spot with a great view of the action and personal interaction with two very hard working pizza chefs. We shared the beet salad, which was a nice start, followed by the skirt steak, the fungi pizza, and grilled asparagus. Everything was flavorful and well prepared. Our server was attentive and friendly, and that's the only reason this isn't one star. We ordered the barbecue chicken pizza and the pepperoni pizza, and they were easily the worst pizzas I've ever had. The crust tasted like cardboard: dry, crunchy with no snap or chew, and completely flavorless. The pepperoni tasted like nothing. There was barely any sauce, and both pies were flat and bland from edge to center. I have never left a restaurant without finishing my meal, and tonight I didn't even try. The potato pancake appetizer was no better. It had a sour aftertaste that made us push it aside after a bite or two. I genuinely don't understand the hype. The staff deserve a kitchen that matches their effort, but based on this visit I can't recommend the food, and I won't be back for pizza.

The 1st of 2 was Metropolitan Kitchen & Lounge, which I visited on Sunday, January 8, 2023. I visited another time coincidentally also in January on Friday, January 31, 2020. January 2020 visit: My girlfriend of that time & I ended that month on 1/31/20 on a bad note, a huge fight. I won't get into details, but it was a rough night later in the night. The night started well. We drove from my apartment in Wheaton to here to see my girlfriend's friend's band play here. Metropolitan is relatively small, but on 2 levels. The 1st level is the restaurant while the 2nd level has a small stage & viewing area and bar area in a somewhat separated room. We watched her friend play, which had decent acoustics. After her show, we eventually got around to ordering food kind of on the late side. I got a burger, which was solid. She might've too. They also had free promotional drinks given by the alcohol company. I may have had a beer too. I was a bit tipsy. She was ready to go, and I said I need more time as I'm not quite ready to drive. She was kind of mean that night calling me a lightweight and things escalated from there. January 2023 visit: Circumstances were less bad than the January 2020 night, but it wasn't an ideal day either. Earlier in the day, my friend agreed to play games near her church at the IHOP. Her church was very close to the Bowie IHOP. I waited a while, and she had driven to Gambrills location saying how she doesn't feel safe eating in PG County. I was very annoyed with her and said I just came from that way, ultimately was going to a dinner later in Annapolis (here at Metropolitan), and booked a movie at AMC Annapolis before the dinner. She replied back apologizing and was already en route to Annapolis from Bowie. After my movie, I arrived for a Meetup group on that Sunday night at Metropolitan. It was a Lobster special that night, the catalyst for the host of the Meetup picking the place. When I arrived, I realized this was the same place I had that huge fight with my ex 3 years earlier, so it brought back bad memories. We were on the lower level restaurant area. I think almost everyone from the Meetup got the lobster special. Service was good. Lobster was solid as was the broccoli & potatoes. Although it was tasty, I was hungry not all that much later after I had gotten home that night. So, while the "deal" was cheaper than the standard price, it still was by no means cheap and to be hungry like 3 hours later was annoying. In summary, in spite of some bad memories, the food was good as was the service. I wouldn't rule this place out as an option.

My girlfriend and I sat down and were fairly impressed with the Tea service set ups that several customers seemed to be partaking in. When we asked about gluten free tea service it was a no go however, they didn't have many substitutes that they could offer, strike one. We started with some appetizers, the Crepe Aubergine (thinly sliced eggplant flash fried, rolled and stuffed with Ricotta with Spinach, herbs and minced onion. Served over roasted tomato sauce). This came out piping hot and was deee-licious. We also ordered the mussels, which I thought were exceptional however over six of them were closed and you know the saying, if the shell is closed, do not open, place aside and mourn the wasted food. Strike 1 and a half? The server we had was well.....very bad. She seemed like the opposite of a type A personality, barely coming over even after my girlfriend ordered a tea and we needed another teacup to try the tea as it steeping. The experience of eating here was very tainted by the service as when I asked for the check we waited and waited and eventually, I had to track her down and ask for it again. Strike two and a half? The menu is interesting as they have unique items like Fried Seafood Cornbread and Frito Pie on the menu (Our house chili served over Fritos chips and topped with sour cream and shredded cheese). I am not sure why an upscale restaurant like this would have Frito Pie on the menu, but I like the fact that you can order a nice steak or something more lowkey like a Frito Pie. Although we both felt disappointed as we had some high expectations from the person who recommended it, I would go back if I was in the area and give them another shot. As always people SYOY!!!!
