    Chesapeake Crab Cake Sandwich
    Ashley C.

I visited Reynolds Tavern yesterday for my first-ever high tea, and it exceeded every expectation. I chose the tea option that included two scones one plain and one cranberry orange served with house-made clotted cream and jam. The scones were outstanding: fresh, perfectly baked, and honestly the best I have ever had. The clotted cream was rich, smooth, and exactly what proper high tea should include. I genuinely do not think I will be able to enjoy just any scone after this experience. I paired everything with an oolong tea variation, which was the perfect match. It was served with what appeared to be their own homemade sugar cubes, a small detail that made the experience feel thoughtful and elevated. To start, I had a cup of the cream of crab soup. It was petite in size but big on flavor--smooth, rich, and perfectly balanced. For my main course, I ordered the crab cake sandwich with French fries. The sandwich was fantastic. The crab cake was excellent, and the fried green tomato on the bottom was an unexpected but welcome twist. The lightly buttered bread it was served on was truly chef's kiss. While a thin slice of tomato would have been the only thing I would add, it was still incredibly satisfying as is. And they are generous with the French fries, you are definitely not left wanting more. The atmosphere deserves special mention. It is absolutely charming and perfect for a girly tea lunch. I would love to bring my mother and daughter here. Knowing that George Washington once visited adds to the magic, and you truly feel the history throughout the space. The deep, dark floors and antique-style chandeliers create a beautiful historic ambiance while still feeling warm and inviting. Overall, this was a wonderful experience from start to finish. Food, tea, atmosphere, and history all come together beautifully. I cannot wait to return.

Pretty good tea. We've had better in Canada but this is quite good for Maryland. The service was decent but misheard what tier we ordered. Would come again if in area.

My sister's and I visited reynolds tavern a few months ago for their tea service and really enjoyed it. The scones especially were my favorite. We decided to use them to cater a few items for my sister's baby shower recently and they did a great job. The scones and tea sandwiches weree delicious and we were able to pick them up easily.

We love walking up Main Street to Church Circle, beyond the hustle and bustle of downtown, to the serenity of Reynolds Tavern "Beer Garden" The outdoor garden is among the best kept secrets in Annapolis. On a nice afternoon/evening there is literally no better place in the city! Live music starting at 7pm on TUE-SAT. Salads, Apps and sandwiches are my mainstay, but you can find some other winners too on the menu!

Truly, one of the better tea services that I've had in the US. Last year, I was very victimized by the very expensive and lackluster tea service at the plaza hotel in New York City. I had a longtime friend visiting in the area who was staying in Annapolis so I went here based off of the recommendation of someone who grew up there. I have passed by this place a lot of times and was really glad I finally walked in. The signage is really unclear, and we walked around the block to figure out where the main entrance was. To be fair it was on Monday afternoon and not that busy although there was a decent group of people in there. The service is very slow. I had to ask for water and waited for water for like 20 minutes but everything that came was really delicious. It ended up costing about $40 for tea service without booze (a steal) and I got the French onion soup. My favorite bite was probably the Matcha tea cake, and the mushroom quiche. The tea was also very good. You did have to ask for some cream. Overall, I would for sure come back here for high tea service or just lunch honestly, it is a very old restaurant like the floors are uneven and there's only one bathroom, but there were some beautiful flowers. 10/10 not too kitschy and perfect for a tea afternoon with a friend!

Food was ok, service was slow and weird. I came for lunch at 11am with a reservation. The hostess was great - seated us right away and was able to adjust our table a bit. But our actual waitress was a bit strange. I sat before my friend arrived so she poured my water. But when my friend arrived, she never poured her water. We had to get up and get it. I ordered the afternoon tea - the menu specifically says the soup should come before the tea, but she brought the tea first. No big deal but she did not bring a tea cup... just a pot. Took her several minutes to come back with the cup. She then said they had a special seasonal scone. When I asked if I could have that as my scone, she said we don't have it. What? I didn't even have the energy... The food itself was lovely and I enjoyed my tea. Then for checking out, she brought the check and took our card but never returned. So we had to again, get up and go pay ourselves. It was a bit of an exhausting experience with the service but again, the food was tasty. Hard to say if I'd return.

We made a reservation on the day of and there was only 2 remaining spots. We were able to book one for 1:30 pm. Upon arrival we were seated right away. The building is an old historical home. We ordered the Queen Anne High Tea option it comes with a glass of Rose, small saucer of cheese & crackers with jam, and the three tier tea options on the menu. The reason I gave them 3/5 is because I was really disappointed in the tea sandwiches. They were super generic and basic tasting. I had some other high tea spots and I still think of the sandwiches. This spot I would say have better desserts and sweets. We ordered Teas The Daydreamer 9/10 Some like it hot 10/10 Tea sandwiches 5/10 Scones 9/10 Pastries/sweet treats 10/10 I would still come back for the tea and sweets. It wasn't the best tea house I've ever been to but it was still solid. The waitress that assisted us was kind and informative. The parking is limited, but there is free street parking on weekends on the side of the building.

Food quality - 3/5 Tea quality - 5/5 Tea pastries and experience - 3/5 Service - 3/5 Ambiance - 5/5 Came on New Years Eve as a party of 9 for tea and food. In short, the tea is delicious (and the venue is cute), but everything else is underwhelming. The tea menu has 30+ options, and everyone enjoyed what they got! However, even though the restaurant had very few people, the food took over an hour and a half to come out. Fish and chips were heavily overcooked, the salmon with risotto was delicious but was overcooked and needed some extra salt/pepper. We got a variety of tea platters but the selection was underwhelming for the price. Though service was slow, the waitresses there were super friendly and kind.

Came here for the first time for a friend's baby shower. The private room towards the front was booked. What's hot - Service. Excellent. Our party didn't have to wait long for anything to be served. Their staff are also very knowledgeable of their menu and were able to explain what was being served and what was what, which was helpful. - Quality. Their scones are delicious. They were actually served slightly warm, which surprised me. The jam and cream that is served with the scones go very well together. Out of their sandwiches, I liked their egg sandwich the best. Their mini quiches are well-seasoned, flavorful, and not overly salty. A few of their sweet treats were pretty good, as well, but I don't remember the names of those treats. Pretty good, but nothing too memorable. - Portions. For their tea service, their portions are all bite size, which allows you to try many options. - Location. It's in an older neighborhood in Annapolis, which is quaint and historic. What's not - Location and layout. It's an older building, which means the layout is already limited and can be restricted. Even though we were in a private room, the area was tight, which made it difficult to move around. - Parking. Again, this is an older part of town, so parking can be difficult to find. There is the Grott parking lot a few minutes walk away, but it appears to be free only on the weekends. Final Answer Would be willing to return, but not a first choice.

My husband and I enjoying an Irish coffee at Reynolds Tavern.
    Joy F.

Almost 40 years ago, my mom and stepdad, and my husband and I went ran inside Reynolds Tavern to escape a torrential rain on a really cold day while we were visiting Annapolis. We made a fond memory that day, sitting by the roaring fire, eating comfort food and drinking Irish coffees. Flash forward to 2025, both my mom and stepdad are no longer with us, but my husband and I were celebrating our 40th anniversary. One of the things we chose to do for our anniversary was make a trip to DC, and make a side trip to Annapolis to relive our Reynolds Tavern memories. So we ended up going on a beautiful hot sunny day, as different from the original day we went as possible, and we found the place, but when we went inside nothing looked the same and we were sort of surprised by that since it was from 1729. So we went out into the garden in the back and ordered an Irish coffee from the bar back there. As we talked to the very kind bartender, we found out that the actual tavern part where we had been 40 years ago was being remodeled! He very kindly took us down and let us peer into the room, and we were able to see the exact spot we sat all those years ago. We did not get the bartender's name, but he was an ace of a guy! He absolutely made our trip to Annapolis, allowing us to revisit one of our favorite memories

Cream of Crab Soup- room temp at best, blehh
    Maya D.

We had high tea here and enjoyed the experience. It definitely gave all of the high tea vibes. I had the Cupids Arrow tea which was really good. Cream of crab soup I wouldn't get again. It was unevenly warm, not even hot. Some spoonfuls were literally room temp at best. Others were tepid. And it tasted like mayonnaise. There was very little crab meat... Maybe that's normal for this style? Bottom tier: cranberry orange scones were cooked perfectly. The cream and jam were very tasty. Middle tier: the mini quiche and tart were ok. I wouldn't care for them again. I think one was mushroom and one was spinach. The 3 sandwiches (egg salad, cucumber, and the last may have been something with ham) were good. I enjoyed the cucumber one more than I thought. Top tier: lemon bar was good, both shortbread cookies were good, pumpkin ginger cake was good, there were 2 other cakes but they were hard to taste because the pieces were literally just that- pieces. They were so tiny. The chocolate truffles were good.... The bakewell tart was good. Nothing was outstanding. It was just pretty good. I would return for the tea... Am curious about their other menu items. They sound good but the crab soup isn't giving me hope.

I had lunch at Reynolds Tavern a few weeks ago and am already planning to return. The Tavern is old - like colonial America old (Annapolis is interesting like that)! William Reynolds (a hatter and dry goods salesman) constructed the tavern in 1747, and from there he conducted his hat business, rented rooms, and operated a tavern. The tavern was known at that time as The Beaver and Lac'd Hat. The tavern stayed in the family until 1777, then another family owned and operated it as boarding house until 1811. In that year, the Farmers National Bank bought the building. In 1935, Annapolis residents saved the building from being torn for a gas station, it became a public library until 1974, when the building was transferred to the National Historic Trust for Historic Preservations, which leased it to the Historic Annapolis Foundation. In 2000, the building was purchased again and the owners returned it to one of its original purposes - a tavern (and it still has some hotel rooms for rent above)! Interesting history, right? But since you can't eat or drink history, I'll get to my experience. The Tavern is open 7 days a week for Traditional English Afternoon Tea and lunch from 11am-5pm in their first floor dining rooms. Then, they have a Beer Garden that is open 7 days a week (weather permitting), and has live music some evenings. I was there for lunch. When I walked in, I was greeted and quickly sat when I said I was just stopping in for lunch. They have a wide menu (salads, soups, sandwiches, wraps, Shepherd's pie, fish and chips, bangers and mash, crab cakes, pastas, meatloaf, steak, quiches, and more), but I decided to order one of their sandwiches: Apple, Bacon, Cheddar, and Feta Toasted Sandwich (crisp green apple slices with sliced cheddar cheese, crumbled feta cheese, and bacon on a warm French roll, served with hand cut fries). I can't explain why I loved this sandwich so much, but I did. I'd order it again right now. Simple but delicious. The ambiance and the service were also both wonderful. The rooms have been restored in such a beautiful way. I was really surprised by the beauty and the history in the space. And my server was very friendly and thoughtful (I was in a bit of a rush, and he offered to bring the bill early so that I could leave pretty quickly after finishing my lunch). Now that I've been, I definitely intend to come back for afternoon tea. They offer several options: Colonial High Tea ($34 per person), Champagne Tea ($38 per person), Afternoon Tea ($29 per person), Queen Anne Tea ($44 per person), Princess Tea ($36 per person), and smaller individual options (Sweet Tea, Savory Tea, Cream Tea), which are smaller than a full tea service. All of these tea options are described in detail on their menu and their website. Overall, I really loved my meal at Reynolds Tavern. If you're in Annapolis for a tourist, it's a wonderful place to have a meal that really reminds you of the age and history of Annapolis. A unique and special place!

There's a cozy park with seating just across the street from the hostess stand for those eagerly awaiting a table, right by the community dock. We parked in a garage within walking distance. We made reservations ahead. Upon entering, we were greeted by a pleasant young lady and taken to our table. 1747 Pub is located in restored building indicative of that time in Maryland. The ambiance was dated and historic, if that makes sense. It was if we were transported in time and having a spot of tea in the dining room of a well established colonial family. As tea was the main event, we placed our orders: we chose the Colonial High Tea service which included a pot of tea (you chose your own flavor), choice of flavored scone (we chose cherry chocolate and cranberry-orange), and an assortment of bite size tea cakes, sandwiches, served on a tiered serving dish, and an appetizer to start (we chose cream of crab soup and French onion soup- these was an additional $3.50, and quiche Lorraine). Price was $34/pp. The flavor of teas we chose were: Cupid's Arrow (with black tea with cherry, almond, and vanilla), Harry and Megan's Royal Wedding ( which included rooibos, a red tea which is one of my favorites) and Jasmine Green tea (semi-fermented green tea with jasmine petals). The teas arrived in our own individual colorful tea pots and we got to pick what color teacups! They were beautiful in design. They were accompanied by sugar, lemon, and creamer. We enjoyed each tea. We started with our apps of the cream of crab soup, and French onion soup and quiche. The soups arrived hot and were tasty. The quiche was nice, creamy, and fresh with a great flavor and crumbly crust. Next were our scones, the cherry chocolate (special for the month) and cranberry-orange. Both had great flavor, but we liked the cranberry orange better. The tiered serving dish arrived with the savory tarts and finger sandwiches and a selection of tea cakes and pastries. They were all scrumptious! Upon leaving we explored the exhibits at the entrance and saw that they had items found in the establishment that dated back hundreds of years, including some items that belong to the enslaved workers of the establishment at that time. Fascinating! All in all, a fine tea time along with an impromptu history exhibit, was had by all.
