Food is good. Service is slow. Prices a little high, to my way of thinking, but then everything's too expensive these days.

I have eaten here twice. I was not on Yelp either time I ate at this establishment. The last time…read morewas for lunch on 06/26/2026. My husband, myself, my MIL,& my SIL were on our way to Colorado. All three of them had the "Lunch Special ". I believe it was chicken fried steak with your choice of two sides. I had a grilled cheese sandwich which was yummy, but I was waiting for dessert. The waitress smiled knowingly when I said that. The restaurant was packed, but the wait staff was friendly and efficient. The rolls were to die for. But Omg the pies were wonderful. I had my fave Chocolate Meringue it was Devine, almost put me into a chocolate coma..lol. It reminded me of my grandmothers. My MIL & SIL had the Coconut Cream and said it was absolutely delicious. You can buy whole pies.we declined since we were on our way to Colorado. The Daily Special includes dessert which they took with us. I definitely recommend stopping if you find yourself in Hico. And take some pie home you won't regret it.

Stopped along the way to Austin. Family had a party melt, chicken nachos, and a burger…read more The burger was ok. A little too thick of bun for my taste (too rollish too). Nachos were disappointing. The chicken was seasoned so I'd say above average. The portion was large. But the cheese seemed canned. No peppers or onions. No sour cream, salsa, or guacamole. Patty melt was ok. Meat was a little chewey and bread was toasted but not flavorful. I will say that if you want pie. I watched a dozen carry out orders. Also admitted one of tallest meringues I've ever seen. We just weren't in mood for pie. Service was ok. My water was empty for about 1/4 of my meal. They were it overwhelmed and had numerous empty tables. She was very friendly fly though. Ambiance is a charming little roadside cafe. Lots of neat salt and pepper shakers in a display case on the wall. Parking was not difficult but certainly more difficult that average. Looked like a popular chocolate place was next door.

Oma Leen's - The best biscuits on earth

Oma Leen's gets 5 stars in every category, always! We have…read moreate here for dinner on a regular basis since it opened in 2024. Tonight was no exception, but special. As we walked in, co-owner and chef Shannon was trying to get the perfect photo of their baked potato for content. As we talked about her version of the baked potato, my husband and I both said we've got to try it tonight. So, we did just that along with the filet. Here's the special part, this steak was fork tender and cooked medium rare plus perfect with incredible flavor. We just had dinner at a steak house downtown Fort Worth for restaurant week last Saturday night. It was a wonderful evening and meal, but Oma Leen's filet blew away Saturday nights offering. This was our first experience ordering a steak at Oma Leen's as their other offerings are amazing. However, it will not be the last on the filet as well as the baked potato!

We took the old highways home to Fort Worth from Austin today and found ourselves visiting Oma…read moreLeen's a second time, this time for lunch. So glad we did! The menu here is not expansive but it offers a very nice selection of tantalizing dishes. We opted for the fried chicken tacos. Being old timers with small appetites we customarily share an entree, but when I learned that an order consists of two, not the customary three tacos, I ordered a plate for each of us. Big mistake! Hahaha. These tacos are humongous! I'm afraid I totally failed to fulfill my duties as a responsible Yelper and take a photo of the presented plate. Attached is a pic of one, but the pic does not adequately provide for you a sense of the taco's actual size. We each had to work to finish one each. This creation is a work of taco art. A taco masterpiece. The tortilla appears to be house-made. The large pieces of chicken breast, perfectly seasoned and breaded; and crisply fried rest on a bed of some of the tastiest cole slaw ever. The fried chicken is then topped with a couple sauces that sing with the chicken and finished with house made hot honey. This taco is worth the drive to Hico from FTW for lunch. Service was once again very pleasant and attentive. And as I think I said in my previous review, Owners/Chefs Austin and Shannon have done a wonderful job of curating a welcoming, warm and authentic ambiance in this historic building.

Okay, I have never graded a restaurant on their cleanliness but here we go…read more Yes, we did eat here today and it was frightening honestly. We walked in and over to a booth... the table appeared clean but the seats had food left in them for ... well I'm not sure how long. Moved to another booth that the guy way "wiping down" with a wet dirty rag and no cleaner. Yes, I am aware that some restaurants soak towels for this purpose, but I promise this was not the case. He did not wipe down the seats, but the food on the seat was to my right and there really was no other option, since all the chairs at the tables had hand prints on the top of the chairs and black dirt on the legs of the chairs. I informed the waitress that she might want to remind her bus boy that he should wipe down the seats. She apologized and I hope she passed on the information. While sitting there, I became more uncomfortable. Food on the walls. Air vents were black, like the AC filter has never been changed. I observed people behind the counter on an "ice rink of grease" sliding all around. The floors in the restaurant haven't been cleaned in days. It was 10 am, no way could they look like that from just a few hours. The grill has not been cleaned in well, it's been a while.... See photos, the aluminum wall guard was swiped at. But the controls on the grill were just nasty Waitresses were eating and drinking behind the counter, in front of customers. I didn't get to the restrooms, but if they are anything like the rest of the restaurant..... Coffee was as far as I wanted to go here. But my mom wanted to eat. So we ordered a burger and a steak sandwich. 40.00 plus tip. Food was subpar. Does were cold. Burger was not great. Mom liked her steak sandwich. Would I recommend this place. Absolutely NOT. We will not be going back. A giant waste of money.
