We took the old highways home to Fort Worth from Austin today and found ourselves visiting Oma Leen's a second time, this time for lunch. So glad we did! The menu here is not expansive but it offers a very nice selection of tantalizing dishes. We opted for the fried chicken tacos. Being old timers with small appetites we customarily share an entree, but when I learned that an order consists of two, not the customary three tacos, I ordered a plate for each of us. Big mistake! Hahaha. These tacos are humongous! I'm afraid I totally failed to fulfill my duties as a responsible Yelper and take a photo of the presented plate. Attached is a pic of one, but the pic does not adequately provide for you a sense of the taco's actual size. We each had to work to finish one each. This creation is a work of taco art. A taco masterpiece. The tortilla appears to be house-made. The large pieces of chicken breast, perfectly seasoned and breaded; and crisply fried rest on a bed of some of the tastiest cole slaw ever. The fried chicken is then topped with a couple sauces that sing with the chicken and finished with house made hot honey. This taco is worth the drive to Hico from FTW for lunch. Service was once again very pleasant and attentive. And as I think I said in my previous review, Owners/Chefs Austin and Shannon have done a wonderful job of curating a welcoming, warm and authentic ambiance in this historic building. read more

We've been to Oma Leen's multiple times now and it has been consistently outstanding. We've tried the chicken and waffles, avocado toast, several scratch-made pasta dishes, and easily one of the best burgers and fries around--everything has been on point every single time. You can really tell the food is made with care and quality ingredients. The staff is always friendly and welcoming, and the atmosphere makes it a great place to relax and enjoy a great meal. Beautiful little gem in Hico. We stopped in for lunch. Check the hours before you go; they only have dinner on certain nights and for lunch they closed at 2 pm. They have Sunday brunch also. Delicious southern food!!! We didn't get to try the biscuits but the Parmesan fries, Cobb salad, Turkey sandwich were all fantastic. The interior was very well done and nice ambience. There are places that you go that feel excellent in all areas! This is one of these places! The best biscuits I've had in my life... THE BISCUITS!!! crispy in the outside and flaky on the inside... perfection with honey and whipped butter!!! Also, the best chicken tacos I've had in my life! The combination of flavors was brilliant and perfect for those that like a perfect combination of sweet and salty! The Honey Dijon Chicken Sammy was very good too! I'm not a honey mustard lover but that honey mustard? Oh my! Sooo good! The ambience is amazing and the service is EXCELLENT! We went during lunch on a Saturday. Limited menu. Definitely want to try dinner menu. Salad was delicious. My hot chicken sandwich was very tasty good chicken. Not a fan of the brioche bun in general. My main problem was the sandwich wouldn't hold and got sloppy quickly. Still enjoyed it but would use a different bread. Fries really good. Would have gave 5 stars but service was slow. Seated quickly, ordered quickly but took about 40 minutes to get food and they were probably half capacity. Don't mind waiting for good food but it felt a little long for my liking. I will be back as I've seen the quality of food and spirit of the place. Definitely going back for dinner. What a true gem this place is, located in little Hico, TX it is off the beaten path but well worth the trek for a fabulous dining experience. It's a quaint restaurant at the bottom of an old hotel and has a bar from the 1800s in it from some Dodge City, Kansas. Rustic, authentic, cowboy stuff- it's legitimate. And the food, wow, just wow. From what I understand it's an ever changing menu based on the seasons and what the farmers have. We were on night 2 of their menu and it was amazing. We started off with the biscuits... damn they were good. Served with a cinnamon butter and peach jam. Normally I would never but jam on my biscuits, it's just not my thing. But, I did it here and it was unbelievable. I've eaten quite a few biscuits in my life and this was the best I've ever had. The combo of the cinnamon butter and peach jam was an out of this world experience. The wife and I each ordered an entree that we split. The summer pasta was a lovely dish made with homemade pasta (hard to beat that) a cream sauce, corn, and poblano peppers. We added shrimp, which were large and tasty. The pasta sauce had just the right amount of spice from the poblano and was truly a delightful dish. Hats off to the chef. We also ordered the burger. It was basically a jalapeno popper burger and OMG what a treat, cooked medium on a brioche bun. On the burger was a light spread of cream cheese, freshly grilled jalapeños, and a peach bacon jam. Served with what appeared to be a homemade Dijon mustard on the side and hand cut fries. The fries had just a hint of sweetness on them. The overall flavor profile of the burger was a wonderful combination of sweet yet savory. Genevieve was our server and just like the food experience, she was lovely too. Took good care of us and was very personable. I fancy myself as an amateur food critic and this was one of the best dining experiences I've had in several years, hands down. I had seen an article about this place and viewed the website, it really seemed like it was going to be quite the experience so I chose it for my birthday lunch. I love the little street and the location! The staff was not so welcoming, I don't just want to judge them on this one day, but so many frowns in the kitchen, no joy or conversation. My diet is restricted because of gluten, so I was looking for some options, would love to have seen a corn tortilla/wrap on the menu or gluten-free bread option so that I could actually have a burger, but there are no options, just salad. My family chose the chicken sandwiches and I can tell they were amazing, they loved them very much! I chose the roast beef and cheese and avoided much of the bread, it was very good as well. We wanted a decaf coffee, but they did not have any. Since it was my birthday, we asked about the dessert menu and there was only one dessert the bread pudding, which of course was out for me. If you just want a sandwich, that is really good then I think this place is perfect for you for lunch. I have not been for dinner so I cannot speak towards dinner, I'm not sure I will come back. Came here for the first time and it definitely won't be our last! The biscuits - HOLEEEEY SMOKES those were the best biscuits I have ever put in my mouth. Filet was tender and great flavor - cooked to perfection. Bread pudding was amazing! 10/10 recommend! What an incredible restaurant! I'm thankful to have found them on Yelp while on our drive from south Texas to Dallas. The food was amazing! Everyone enjoyed the casual bougie ambiance, kind service, and first class food. We sat at the chef's table, which is a bar overlooking the kitchen. I loved watching the kitchen crew work it. It's like watching The Bear with much less stress and cuss words. lol. We would drive from Dallas just to eat here again! There is a wait for fresh food (fired per table as high end places should do) and my husband was born in a hurry. He is the one who said he'd drive back just to eat there. That's a testimony! He said the biscuits were the best he'd ever had. The berries and cream were on point. I'll be doing that at home. My eggs Benedict was delicious as well. I tried my son-in-laws avocado toast and WoW! It was so unexpected; as I order this at other restaurants frequently. It tasted like it had a sun-dried tomato aioli on it. They live in Granbury. First, a young lady saw us coming in and quickly held the door open and greeted us with a warm, friendly smile..." Welcome." Nice friendly crowd in restaurant..all seemed to be truly enjoying thier food. Waitress Shelly came to the table with amazing energy and personality.. She greeted each of us.. answered questions off menu..gave some great recommendations.. The Chef at Oma Leen's does some incredible dishes here.. The food selections, the drink list, (loved the wine choices) all made this first-time visit amazing! Sister had the Brasied chicken (Coq Au Vin) and Dad and myself the Trout plate. We shared some salads.. Buttermilk biscuits and ended with fantastic desserts.. If you haven't tried or if you're visiting the Hico area.. A must stop for an amazing dining experience.. breakfast, brunch, lunch, or a special meal.. And never mind that chef Shannon might stop by your table. Last I went to this hidden gem it was located in Walnut Springs, a little town south of Glenrose on Hwy 144. It is an excellent place for upscale food, uniquely located in tiny town. Limited menu that evolves weekly, but it is always noteworthy. Steaks, fish and comfort food, all prepared like some very upscale restaurants in Dallas or Ft. Worth. We were quite surprised and intrigued at the same time. I understand it has moved to Hico and has become the go to destination there and draws patrons from everywhere. We were close by at rough creek lodge. Came to Hico just for lunch and a change in food & scenery. Service was very good, friendly and nice atmosphere. Interestingly the bar takes up half the restaurant and seems to have a remarkably large amount of space for the bartenders. I would push the bar back and allow for more tables because the food here is incredible!! I had the turkey sandwich- something I would never have ordered anywhere else but because it was their signature and it came with a slaw I went with it. Best turkey sandwich I've ever had. The fries are also coated in some kind of addictive delicious spice blend. 5 star recommend and I am not overly effusive when it comes to food. My wife and I visited Oma Leen's last Friday night and were pleasantly surprised to see the new summer menu. There were so many appetizers that sounded delicious that we ordered four and skipped the main courses. We were not disappointed!!! Our favorite was the clams with homemade sourdough bread but the tostada and jalapeños with a parch jam were excellent as well. We sat at the bar and the service and ambiance were fantastic. Where to begin with this review? Let's start from the second you open the door. Everything is beautifully intact. Very warm very cozy very inviting. The decor reminded me of being I don't know on a pirate ship a funky swanky little pirate ship of some sort. All the textures just went so well together. All the way down to the tassels layering the wallpaper and the bathrooms. And then let's make our way to the service. Our server Ainsley was spectacular. She answered every questions to the best of her knowledge and if she couldn't answer the question she most definitely came back to make sure that she did have an answer for us. Dining with Ainsley was magnificent. I wasn't that big of a fan of the roast beef sandwich but the side salad was fantastic. The bread on the sandwich was so so it was hard to bite through the roast beef was rather tough and gritty but the flavors were all there. I just would have been nice to biting to my sandwich and not have everything fall out if you know what I mean. Will we return? Absolutely read more
