Some restaurant hosts are more aggressive than others, and many places have expansive terraces. This one looked reasonable enough for lunch: decent reviews on Google Maps, a robust menu of local specialties, a big and empty patio, and an unobtrusive hostess. Jamie W and I spent a busy morning traipsing through the Chiado and Bairro Alto districts, so the al fresco option worked for us. We decided to share the 10€ Mixed Salad, a pretty standard mix of lettuce, tomato, shredded carrot, red onion, and beets (Photo 9). For his entree, Jamie ordered the 19€ Seared Salmon which came with a small Mediterranean salad of cabbage and carrot and a schmear of avocado (Photo 7). He assessed it as pretty good. I tried something more local, the 25€ Octopus Fillets Lagareiro Style with Sprout Rice. I had envisioned octopus pounded into medallions and the. seared given the name, but it was really calamari, lightly breaded and flash-fried tentacles (Photo 10). The rice was more a tomato-based rice soup (Photo 6). Neither part of my meal blew my socks off, but it managed to satisfy us until our fado dinner show later . Good service though and a nice view (Photo 5). We happened to pass by this restaurant and from the street, you could smell everything wonderful. We took a chance at getting a table for six of us and they happily accommodated us. Honestly, I can't tell you what everyone else had as it was so long ago, but I had the steak and fries and I was in HEAVEN. Everyone in our party was raving about how delicious their individual plates were. The service was friendly and efficient. Both times service was great, atmosphere is wonderful whether you eat outside or their gorgeous inside room. For lunch we ordered the cod fish baked à braz, the grilled calamari, and the black linguine with shrimp. Great portions, great value. The next time around we got their outstanding codfish fritters and the fried green beans which we Portuguese call "garden fishes." Just like my mom used to make them. Make sure to stop there and try some traditional Portuguese cuisine with some modern twists.
