    Latte, OJ and yogurt

Great breakfast place. On Google and Yelp states the store opens at 7am but it actually opens at 8am. I show up at 7am and it was closed. Had the latte, OJ and yogurt. It is great place to try out.

    Panini

This place is awesome. The panini perfectly hit the spot; the bread was super crispy and flavourful -- you can tell they use real butter! And did this panini make me a rosemary convert? Also grabbed a warm pasteis de natas from here, although it was a bit too sweet. Same with the croissants -- while those do seem to be their speciality, they all looked too sweet for my liking. The gelato looked a bit old / crystallized, but thankfully didn't taste that way. The raspberry was decent but not amazing, while the pistachio was better than it looked. I'll always trust a place that can serve up a good pistachio. Choupana Caffe also seems to be known for its thick hot chocolate, but unfortunately, they didn't have any available when we went. It also led to a bit of a mix-up with the counter staff, but they were gracious about helping me out and allowing me to swap it out for freshly squeezed OJ.

Nice little cafe with quaint seating service. It's packed in the morning and Un rushed. Waiters English was helpful and pleasant. Meal was tasty and everything fresh. The waiter accomdated changes to suit our taste. The tables are small so strategic plate placement is important if you eat a good bit like I do :-) A must visit caffe - breakfast was great. Pro tip: internet maps don't work well here - making you think you have father to go. Look at the building signs very carefully as we walked by several locations as the map app is not very accurate.

I never really go out to eat breakfast but this cafe is something I am going to remember for a long time! This cafe is amazing!!! Everything about this cafe had made my visit to Portugal so much better! The service in this cafe was incredible! I had come to this cafe twice and both times the staff has shown that they are super accommodating with your needs. The cafe itself super cute and aesthetic! Be prepared to wait because this place is always crowded! My family went at around 9 and the rush started to come in at around 10 so go a little early! Everything single item that we ordered was delicious! Starting off with drinks we had the lemonade with mint and cinnamon. This drink is super tart so just be prepared for that! The cappuccino is what really made my day! Made perfectly this drink was amazing! There was many different foods that we had at this cafe! This first one being the veggie toastie! The toastie's are like a veggie sandwich! Filled with many different roasted vegetables and a slight smear of goat cheese, this sandwich was my favorite of all the things that we got! Another great item was the scrambled eggs with tomato or the bread with tomato. Something about the tomatoes made both of these dishes incredible. Overall this place is amazing. There is a reason why there are always crowds flooding inside. The food is good and the atmosphere just makes this place even better! And don't forget to leave with a croissant because you will regret it!!!

We found this place on our last morning here in Lisbon. We wished we found out about this breakfast place earlier during our stay here since it was a walkable distance from our hotel. If we knew earlier, we would have came here every morning. Reason being: BEST croissant we've ever had! Warm and crispy on the outside, fresh, soft like a cloud and buttery on the inside. Very hard to find such yummy croissant in the states. I really miss this place just thinking about it. Not only that, the Choupana brunch combo that we got was more than enough for 2 people (even for 3 people). The combo was a good deal (Euro 16.50 = about USD $18.00), comes with a lot of different items, it's tasty, healthy, and has nice presentations. Comes with a basket of bread, Pastries, and croissant with butter, jelly, and honey; a cup of fancy arty cappuccino; another 2nd drink choice of fresh squeezed OJ or juice of the day; a cup of yogurt with fresh your choice of 2 fresh fruits (we chose papaya and mango)- also another deliciousness that I really liked, very creamy; and a plate of vegetables entree (you can choose prosciutto, smoked salmon or vegetables entree). I was so indulged and amazed in the meal that I forgot to take a picture of the vege entree plate as well. A combo like this in the states could easily cost $25-30+ and it probably won't be as fresh and delicious. The cafe was very hip and modern, friendly staff (staff speaks English and have English menu available), they're busy (u know the stuff it's good), a lot of locals eating there, the wait was about 20-25 mins at 10:00-10:30am in the morning on a weekday even. Definitely would come back here again if we ever visit Lisbon again. Highly recommended if you're around the area!

Choupana is A-OK. This neighborhood was missing a place like this, for sure. Good ambience and a good place to chat with a friend, while you drink a cappuccino and eat one of their many options. It has good pastries and decent meals (burgers, pizza, sandwiches, soup, salads and even pasta, there's a lot to choose from). The food doesn't wow me and that's why I think it's a little expensive. Service could be better.

Very cute place. Staff is young and accommodating. We got a mozzarella, pesto tomato sandwich pressed and a yogurt. Prices are very affordable. And they let you stay and work or chat. Def recommend if you're in the area. Cute backyard area too but we sat inside in the back near the window. -W

Couldn't be more happy with our choice to stop here before our flight back. The food was delicious, plates and drinks were presented with such a yummy appearance, and even the menu was a cute touch. The waiter was so wonderful and very polite, we felt so welcomed and enjoyed everything we had. As we finished up we took our card with our tab to pay at the front desk, then stepped outside to find a quick trip to the taxis stand! Sorry I didn't take a picture of my food it came out and I ate it so fast. But I had the cinnamon pancakes and they were yummy but the cinnamon and chocolate cappuccino hit the spot.

    Such cute decor!

Such a cute, somewhat hipster cafe. Not touristy at all but the waiters do speak English well + an English menu. I ordered the iced espresso and scrambled eggs with chicken. Food was as pretty good. Would definitely come back again for the vibe and to try out the delicious looking and smelling pastries!

Very sweet and delicious drinks. Food was good. Cute place.

This is THE iconic place to go, definitely in all of Portugal, and maybe even beyond that…read more Just looking at the nearly 100,000 Google Maps reviews, more than I've seen at any restaurant, explains it. This place has been open since monks were selling pasteis de nata in the early 1800s to make ends meet, and the secret recipe is apparently locked up and only known to a few people. Enough legends surround this place to make it packed with people every hour that it's open. It's so shrouded, in fact, that the egg tarts here are called Pasteis de Belem - not even the Pasteis de Nata used across the rest of Portugal. What really surprised me at first was how large the dining room was inside. When waiting in line, it doesn't feel particularly large, but once you get in you're greeted with a cavernous set of rooms with hundreds of mini tables throughout. Since we were here for lunch, along with the obvious Pasteis de Belem orders, I also got an Iberian Ham sandwich, pasteis de bacalhau, and a spinach quiche. The main part of this is going to be focused on the pasteis de belem, since that's what everyone is here for. I'm happy to say the 200 year old recipe still hits. These are amazing. The first thing you notice is the perfect dark brown spots on the top, indicating a top-tier bake. But when you take your first bite is when you're met with that feeling that - yes, this was in fact worth it. The outside of the pastry is perfect - bursting with flaky layers and a crispiness that has to be heard to be believed. The edges rise slightly over the top just to provide that extra crunch that's irresistible. The inside is just as spectacular. It's creamy, eggy, soft, but avoids being too sweet. One way I can think of describing it is like a soft cheesecake without the sourness. It would be tough not to go to rehab for getting addicted to how good this is. The top stays just a bit harder than the inside which is practically butter in terms of its texture. I could talk about this for another few paragraphs, but the best way to show how I felt is that we ordered another box of six to take home afterwards. The rest of the food was interesting. The Iberian ham sandwich was actually very good, with well-toasted bread, good quality pork, and a ton of perfectly melted cheese. The pasteis de bacalhau and quiche were pretty disappointing, though. For being as famous as is it, this place is remarkably cheap. Each pasteis de belem is only 1.6 euros, and a packet of 6 is less than 10. The rest of the food is crazy cheap as well; with the sandwich, which comes in a massive portion, being under 5 euros. Overall, it doesn't matter how long the wait is, you need to get the pasteis de belem here. It deserves it's iconic status. 9.5/10

This is the birthplace of the delicacy Portuguese custard tart (pasteis de nata). While you can…read morefind find these tarts all over Portugal, this is a must try when you visit The exterior is slightly modest, but is also absolutely gorgeous. It's well-lit, and something about it beacons you over. Maybe it's the line stretched out the door. The interior has beautiful blue and white tiles. The staff are all busy preparing tarts, helping customers, etc. I don't know why, but it feels like a shop right out of Harry Potter with the colors and almost antique beauty. The staff are dressed in dapper uniforms. Each person has an air of serious, yet charming, and sophisticated. For a place that pretty much has the same routine all day and services thousands of Hungary and demanding tourists, the staff were friendly enough, and very efficient The packaging was gorgeous. Again, it reminded me of a delicacy or to-go parcel you might get in the wizarding world. The tarts were delicious. I tried several egg/custard tarts in Portugal, and this is one of the best. While at least one of location in Sintra has my #1 pasteis de nata, this one is probably a close second You can order a variety of sizes/amounts, and the carry fairly well. There are also other treats like cakes, hot chocolate, etc Some tips: They have cinnamon and sugar you can put on top of your tart if you want to add to the flavor You B don't have to takeaway, and in fact it might be quicker service if you walk past the initial line and counter and head into the restaurant where you might be able to snag a table and eat your tarts on site Located near a couple incredible Lisbon landmarks you will want plenty of time to stroll around Belém and see the sites. It's a vibe, and a must do in Lisbon Cheers!!

This means I can now say who made them best, and more importantly, why. The interesting thing is, I didn't think the pastel de nata here were particularly great, on any dimension - fairly flimsy, doughy crust, with a pudding-like, drippy filling that was too sweet and not quite eggy enough. Don't get me wrong, I'd still eat them any time someone offered, they were still tasty, you just have a ton of options nearby, some of them notably better than the ones here. I also tried one of their fancy-looking cookies, which definitely looked fancier than it tasted. Was just a cookie. Dessert-wise I was unimpressed. They were also always fairly busy, which made ordering feel a bit rushed. So why am I still giving this bakery 5 stars, and why did I come back here a couple more times, including to get food to-go the morning we left, to get food to take on the plane with us? For exactly one reason, and it's a weird one: oddly enough, the samosas here are the best samosas I've ever had, and by a wide margin. You'd think the best samosas ever would come from an Indian restaurant or bakery, but nope, they're here. The other small savory food items we tried were also pretty good, but the samosas are the juiciest, meatiest, most perfectly bursting with spices samosas I've had. Who knew? They also had pretty solid espresso and pretty solid free-squeezed orange juice, but those aren't hard to find in Portugal (I miss seeing inexpensive fresh squeezed OJ all over the city... especially *truly* fresh squeezed, to order, from whole oranges. Portuguese OJ definitely was the best. Though obviously not *better* than other places you can get the same thing around - probably indeed the same oranges. Definitely better than anywhere you can get fresh OJ for a few bucks in the US, though, if you can find such a place. :p)

The layers of pastry on the outside were super thick - the most amount of layers I've seen on the double-digit ones that I've eaten. This makes the crunch earth-shattering, but still so easy to bite through. The pastry layers cascade down into the center, creating ripples of individual crunches along the way that is so immensely satisfying to consume. But what's truly spectacular is the inside. Upon the first bite, the custardy center oozes out like molten lava. You better make sure you have a plate under this, because the bright yellow goo is as addicting to taste as it is dangerous to your hands or clothing. The flavor is simply perfect - just the right amount of sweetness, citrus, and egginess. It's honestly unbelievable how good and irresistible this is. Comparing it to Pasteis de Belem, I think I would actually put this slightly over. The extra layers and the more liquidy center just do it for me. That's an iconic place, but comparing simply on what I liked better, I think this takes the cake (or tart). Overall, pretty close to the best baked good I've ever had. 9.75/10

But I wasn't here for those, and if you're smart, you won't be either. Their pastel de nata are, or at least were as of ~3 months ago, 1.50 euro, which is very reasonable, especially for how good they are. Perfect crust, crunchy but not crumbly or dry, perfectly balanced, not overly sweet, eggy custard that stays intact after biting into it instead of falling out like pudding... and the perfect, marshmallow-y crème brulee torched finish. Great cortado, too, and very reasonably priced. It was fairly busy, but there was also a decent amount of space to stand and drink a cortado inside without feeling cramped (which was good, since at that specific time I was here, right when I got inside, it started pouring rain.)
