Open Thursday afternoons 1-6, which is pretty convenient because by then we've run out of local peaches and other goodies from the previous weekend markets! Season is June - October. Parking is easy on the streets nearby too. I get the sense that Madison struggles to accommodate this market because every year it's in a different place. One year it was on Waverly, then it was banished for a year to the grounds of the old Bayley-Ellard school, and now it's back in town on one very small block of Green Village Road, right outside the Museum of Tradecraft.

This is a Turkish mart, but they branch out in all directions. I found Lebanese, Palestinian, Hungarian... the list certainly goes on. It was fun picking out different foods I felt like trying. They had a pile of fresh-cooked, fresh-wrapped breads made in Irvington. Still good 3 days later, now part of my sandwiches for the week. They sell a lot of sausages (all halal, no pork), but the star is their homemade beef sausage. I grabbed one of those and it's now sliced on those fresh breads (along with the Azerb salsa and some baba ghanoush). And yeah, I did end up with some olives for fun. Great little place if you just want to explore. If you're someone halal and/or from the Middle East, so much the better. Now, you do pay quite a bit more for many of the foods here, most notably where you can find similar brands/products elsewhere. And I noted the small size before, which means they're limited in what they can carry. Some items, like the olives, took up disproportionately much shelf space, squeezing out some of the varieties I would have liked to see more of (like hummus, there was very little to peruse). So that's the star deduction. But with that, do come check out Sultan next time you're on 46.

The pickup area is just a computer and the staff that pointed me out here was pleasant, and then we waited for a bit as they were all busy staffing the registers. Eventually another staffer came over and handled our pickup order but she seemed rather dour compared with the greeter at the door who was much more positive. Items in stock - check. Pickup - relatively smooth. Store did smell a little bit strange, but maybe it's all the random materials and items there (was looking at some brick wind chimes, wicker baskets and other decor). Definitely some challenges with quality control - some items were already chipped and cracked while on display, others looked great. I've been to another location and they were much better organized. Lots of furniture, though, so perhaps I'll have to dig more into that (though, yes, they are more expensive than Ikea, but less than Macy's). A nice thing around the holidays - various treats from around the world show up in stock that you can get to surprise as a little holiday gift for folks. I'll come back to see what else they have.
