The food was good, but nothing special. I got the 3 piece snack. The food came out quickly. The chicken was a bit salty, but probably to be expected given it is fast food fried chicken. Every meal and snack comes with a biscuit. It too was salty and likely very high in calories. The staff was patient. It was a bit more expensive than I think it should be given what you are getting. I ordered food via the drive-thru close to closing time, so I definitely took that into consideration pertaining to my experience. I ordered a combo chicken meal with two sides, but there were a few missed steps with my meal. A computer/AI takes your order at the drive-thru, which the instructions were concise, but I encountered an issue because two of the sides I ordered were not available, and the computer did not tell me sides were not available. I found this out at the drive-thru window. The flavor of the chicken and sides were good, except the biscuit was so hard I couldn't bite into it. So, let's break it all down: 1) the gizzards breading was soggy and salty and the gizzards themselves were too chewy; 2) the 2 spicy chicken strips were good and tender and the breading crisp; 3) the 3 piece (rcvd 2) breading was too salty yet the chicken was good; 4) the wedge fries were not crisp but were very soft and just ok; and 5) the slaw was good. My sister took us where while we were visiting from TX. The staff here are AMAZING!!! So friendly and helpful. They brought our order to the table for us while my sister got the kids situated. She then helped me fill our water cups and also brought them over for me. The food was good. We got 12pc chicken strips meal which came with 3 sides and biscuits. Our sides were potato wedges, mashed potatoes with gravy and coleslaw. The chicken was good. The slaw and the mashed potatoes & gravy were good as well. Yes I absolutely recommend!!! The oven-roasted chicken is the bees knees! It's probably the best drive through chicken I've ever had. It's everything I hope for in chicken - delicious - juicy, hot, & nicely seasoned. Skip the mac and cheese... it's not anything to write home about. And it's a bummer that they have potato wedges instead of fries, but even those are nicely seasoned. My husband loved them! And I have to say, the biscuits and baked cinnamon apples are absolutely out of this world! We were a little surprised that our box meals didn't come with a drink, but we're not soda drinkers anyway, so that wasn't a big deal. Fortunately, there's a Starbucks next door! Best fried chicken in the Rolla/Saint Robert area. I can't comment on the inside, I went through the drive thru. I ordered 4pc all breast chicken meal, with mashed potatoes and gravy, coleslaw and a sweet tea. The spicy chicken was fresh and very juicy. The biscuit that came with the meal was also fresh and hot. I had to split it open to cool so I could eat it. I would even drive 100 miles for their chicken before going somewhere else. read more

While heading to St Louis we saw a big billboard add for Lee's Famous Recipe Chicken off the I-44. We had to stop for gas so we figured we'd give this place a try. There was only 9 Yelp reviews with a mixture of good and not so good ones. I am a picky eater but sometimes I will give a place the benefit of the doubt regardless of the reviews. Today was one of those days. I was neither impressed or disappointed. I could see or should I say smell what one of the Yelpers meant by the strong aroma as soon as you walk in. For years I was a customer of Lee's Famous Recipe Fried Chicken on Skinker in St. Louis. Lee's always had great fried chicken but I was particularly drawn to their fried gizzards which have increasingly become tough to get in other fried chicken venues. Some years ago I discovered the Lee's store in Rolla, MO and have tried to time trips on I-44 to enable me to stop in Rolla at mealtime. Since moving to Texas I have missed Lee's gizzards and when visiting Waynesville to celebrate my wife's aunt's 100th birthday, I made a special trip over to Rolla to indulge in one of my favorite meals. We are new to Rolla and gave Lees a shot our first weekend here. The service was lightning fast, we didnt even have our drinks filled and they brought our order to our table. The food was AMAZING !
