After having read the three reviews posted at the end of 2013, I became alarmed. Where would I go to find really good donuts for my Alameda co-workers when by boss calls to ask me (once-again) to bring the "Best-donuts-in-town" to work for the crew? I've been doing this for the last 5 years now and it's been such a sweet treat for all. Just how true were the reports of soapy-donuts that reeked of gasoline? I just had to see for myself, so I stopped by to buy a donut. I don't consider myself an expert, rather, I'd say, experienced (from coast-to-coast and for over a half a century). Kim's brother was there, as usual, and the raised donut was as soft and as fluffy as before. So yes, I will be back again and my office again will have the best donuts in town from Lee's donuts. Their hours are sometimes all over the place. On yelp it says they open at 9am but I called them at 7am and they were already open. My husband and I went to Lee's this morning for coffee and donuts, while sitting there enjoying our treats I noticed how clean this store is! Spotless, organized (all the drinks are faced) you can get your coffee yourself and make it how you like it and not a drop of coffee, creamer or sugar in sight. The staff is friendly and helpful and it feels like everyone in there is family. Now, for the donuts.....what a selection sprinkles, bear claws, apple fritters, cinnamon buns, maple bars and my favorite a delicate, delicious donut filled with a red jam and sprinkled with powdered sugar. You can also order a bagel with cream cheese or a croissant if that's more your style. I love Lee's and am so happy it's in my neighborhood ! read more

Best donuts in town! Fresh because they make them on the premises (I looked behind the counter into the kitchen to confirm). I had a giant glazed cinnamon twist that was perfect. Fluffy, delicate interior and melts in the mouth. The outer coating of glaze defies the laws of physics by holding its shape until you pull apart. They have lots of variety and also croissants. I'd love to try a breakfast sammy on croissant but my arteries really don't need that punishment on top of donuts. Unlike the place on Park St. where there is no evidence of any donut-making operation to be found. Lee's is right on my way to kid's school and to work, so very dangerous. read more

I obviously didn't know the hype about this donut place and showed up at 10:45am on a Sunday... there definitely wasn't a lot left but they had my favorite which is the Old Fashion Maple Donut! It was fresh and yummy. After I got home I decided to yelp them and saw all kinds of yummy looking donuts that I'll definitely be back to try. The gentlemen inside was nice and the donuts were good so they get 5 stars! Lee's Donuts doesn't look like much but this coffee joint has the best donuts I've had, but you wouldn't realize it if you're walking by Little Caesar's Pizza. The best of the best donuts though you'd better get there early for the best selection, most often everything yummy is sold out by 10:00AM. And because its such a small venue, they don't restock or make another batch, so get a move on it and grab your pastries early. Location: Horribly location, in a small mini-mall which has little to offer. The Block Buster has closed up along with some of the smaller shops. The recruiters office along with LC are the only two shops that seem to be open. Though there is ample parking and it is just a hop and skip away from a local High School and College campus. Venue: It's not the kind of place you want to have your latte and eat your pastries in, because the seating is very limited, the space inside is cramped. But it is perfect for 'grab-and-go' and the place smells delightful. I cannot recommend the coffee as it wasn't very good but the donuts cannot be beat. Whatever they are putting in the batter, they have most all donut joints beat. Seating: Uncomfortable tables/chairs, just a handful, would not recommend. Coffee: It's a miss with either flavorless or on the bitter-side. But Lee's Donuts are not famous for their cup of joe. It's a pass. Atmosphere: Not much to look at inside or out. Could use an entire overhaul. It's not a cafe or coffee house. It's not the kind of place you go to if you want to hang out or study. It's the kind of place you place your order and enjoy somewhere else. Though the cashier/barista is really nice. It's comparable with prices around the Bay for donuts but these are the sweetest donuts that are just fluffy and light -- at a very reasonable price considering they taste like designer pastries but for donuts! This place is the best kept secret. I have to remember to wake up early and go on a donut run for my co-workers before they sell out of all of their yummy goodies. Highly recommended. Don't forget to leave the really nice cashier a tip, she does a really good job and is very friendly/personable. Which is tough to do considering she's in a tiny cramped area, rushing to get your order in and ring you up. I bought 2 dozen. She said she needed to charge me .25 extra because I wanted to split the other dozen donuts into 2 different boxes. Really? Service is ok. The donuts were not very tasty, tasted cheap and mass produced. Not the usual flavor of a small mom and pop type eatery. Place is clean, a little sanitized for my taste. They serve coffee and have a bathroom. The price is on the higher end for donuts $1.25 instead of the usual $.75, but it's a donut not a necessity. Over the years I have discovered that the best donut shops are run by Cambodian Americans or Vietnamese Americans. The donuts here are very fresh and delicious. In spite of not having the 24-hours operation like Colonial Donuts, I have to give Lee's Donuts some credit --their donuts are better and fresher. I recently bought my husband some donuts here and he went back for more the very next day. I really liked the fact that their chocolate croissant is actually filled with plenty of chocolates! Decent prices, service and quality. 3 mixed dozens of donuts @ about $7 each- that's breakfast for the crew....a ham and cheese and a coffee....thats breakfast for me. All together, they got me for about 26 bones - out the door. Coffee that I grabbed was a french roast and was nice and strong. No dunkin donuts bullshit coffee here. Ham and cheese was warm, with a fat slice of ham in a croissant, not the cheap stack of thin sliced processed/chopped ham. Good shit! For the longest time I have been renting movies from the Blockbuster across the street from Lee's Donuts and never gave it a second thought. One day, my co-workers and I had a huge craving for donuts and I said I'd stop by the next morning and get some if they looked decent. OH MY!
