Just an update to say that Spencer is still the BEST!!! If your taking your car anywhere other than Lee's, I'd venture to say you're making a mistake. We've got a 2006 RAV4 with over 100,000 miles and it's still going strong. I firmly believe Spencer deserves a lot of the credit for that, and we haven't had to spend a fortune to keep it maintained and running well. He's the man! My car started feeling like it was going to stall, and the idling was off. I don't live in the Long Beach area but happened to be here visiting. I went by the reviews and also this shop was very close to where I was staying. I wanted to write a review as a thanks to Spencer for his time and patience, he even took the time to speak to my regular mechanic not in the area. After diagnosing the car and tinkering around...within a very short time, everything was running normal. Grateful not to have had a big issue or excessive charges two days before Christmas. If not for Spencer and his assistant expert mechanic, I wouldn't have not passed my smog check. These guys are not only reasonable, they genuinely want to help. They fixed all my issues in my car that's not making it pass the smog check at a very reasonable price. It took some time but it's all worth it. The money we saved was incredible compared to if we take our van to a dealer and some other shops. I shopped around many mechanic shops and This guys are the most reasonable. Very nice people. They don't rip you off here, came for an oil change and the older gentleman also noticed my tires were low so he filled them with air. I stopped in to get my tire pressure checked and the mechanic was so rude to me. The tire light was on in my car and I asked him if he could see if I had a nail in the tire. He mentioned that "They don't fix tires." I then said can you check the tire pressure and then he replied "great" with sarcasm and an attitude. He clearly didn't want to help me and he has the worst energy and attitude whenever I have to interact with him. I don't recommend taking your car to Lee's Auto service. read more

I sadly have to give a bad rating as my experience with Spencer was not the best. I haven't had AC in a few months and Spencer informed me that I needed a new AC compressor and I gave the okay to fix it. Couple hours later Spencer calls informing me they are unable to take out my compressor because the compressor is connected to the engine box by four bolts and the last bolt was stripped and the "AC technician didn't want to do any damage" ... as soon as i picked up my car and started my car it did not sound the same. My 2014 sounded like a 2002.. but little did he know my Uncle is a mechanic and certified dealer who bought the car for me. How was the fourth bolt stripped when no one has touched my compressor and the bolts are from the original manufacturer? ... With my Uncle's confirmation, Spencer's AC technician stripped my bolt INSIDE THE ENGINE BOX by not knowing how to properly take out the bolts. And of course trying to cover up the company being liable Spencer thought he could just tell me the bolt got stripped on its own and I would pay no mind due to me being a young female. I'm glad that I was raised to have compassionate for others or else he would definitely have a law suit on his hands... take your car here at your own risk is all I'm saying. read more

The suggestion to go to Lees Automotive was the best suggestion ever! I cant say enough about them. It begins with their genuine kindness. This is the first business that I can say I didnt get the feeling of being ripped off or they were scamming me because they didnt think I knew what I was doing. They included me in every aspect of my vehicle and did not add on at the end or give me a ridiculous estimate. To top it off they (spencer) worked on my vehicle and didnt make me wait an unexcusable amount of time to get it back. One of the best parts is that the work was 100% top quality, and they do not skimp on the parts. Honest business. You can tell when you meet them they are completely genuine with the best mechanic and the best prices in Long Beach. So my car is a handful of years old and I needed to get the bi-yearly smog check thing done. I had come here when I first moved to Long Beach and found this place from the DMV website listing it as a place they recommended. Can't be that bad right? Well, for a girl that does not like going to auto shops since they seem to take one look at me and try to upcharge me on services that my car doesn't need.... I was a bit hesitant. So when I got my annual renewal in the mail, I hunted through my glove compartment to go back to the place that treated me so well a couple of years ago. (I can't believe I have lived in So Cal for this long now!) They still were as pleasant as when I went before. I might have received a little bit of the royal service as these owners are Korean and I am Korean.... The mother of the owner was there and immediately wanted to know my life story (aka if I was single for her son) and to expedite my service of my car. Its a mom & pop kind of auto repair place, but they were very nice and it did remind me of a place my Mom might find through her Korean connections. The lady was very helpful and I did meet her son too. We chatted, oddly enough he went to school in Washington too. Nice on the eyes.... but not so much. Who knew that my renewal on my plates could score me a compliment while running my errands? I will definitely be back here again to do oil changes and other services just because of the hospitality. read more

My poor car. I just don't drive that much. Living in Belmont Heights, I just don't need to that often. I can walk pretty much anywhere I need to. So I was a little neglectful. Until that bright, all capitalized SERVICE ENGINE SOON light began staring me in the face and I had to pump my gas pedal until a plume of Smoke Monster sputtered from the tailpipe. Eek. That can't be good. I'm so glad Lee's is close by and really? Have you seen these reviews? Spencer did the diagnostics and repairs on my car and I had it back within a few hours. On a Saturday. Bottom Line: Great little auto shop. Honest and fair prices. Story Son in law's car is a tired old Mercury Sable which is on its last leg. I was told by another shop that it needed new ball joints. That shop quoted $400-600. Since the car is only worth about $1000, I took it home and borrowed a car for my Son in law while I looked for a solution. Saw Lee's on Yelp with lot's of positive reviews, and since they were close by I went to check them out. When I got there the shop was a little odd looking so I drove through the lot to take a closer look. As I passed the office a woman came running out asking me what kind of service I needed. I told her suspension work and she made me park in their side lot. Mr. Lee met me and pulled the car onto a rack for an inspection. He showed me the condition of all the front suspension then quotes me $250 to replace the ball joints. Ms. Lee is the best. She was very hospitable and told me about how she has been fixing cars at this location for over thirty years. Lee's will get all of my business from now on. read more

But it had been weeks past the due date of my smog certification renewal, and you know... carpe diem. I begrudgingly took my car to Lee's (sans appointment) after looking it up on Yelp. As soon as I pulled into the lot, I was approached by a motherly Asian lady who directed me and my SUV to the mouth of the garage, where the mechanic quickly took over. I waited in a small adjacent room for about 15-20 minutes in the company of old calendars and Korean novelas on mute. Fortunately I brought a book and would advise others to do the same. The smog test finished quickly and breezily. The mechanic returned for me to sign and swipe my $49.50 for all services, and I was sent on my way. No problems. read more

I went to Lee's for a required SMOG test on my vehicle after reading positive Yelp reviews and having friendly phone interactions with the woman in the office - they met my expectations. I was told within 5 minutes of handing over the keys that my car wouldn't pass the test for sure because of an issue with my Check Engine light - I've had prior electrical issues with my vehicle so I wasn't surprised. After years of having bad experiences at automotive shops / mechanics who will basically lie or manipulate information to make an extra dollar, I was really pleased that this worker (Spencer) was so up front and honest about the situation - he even said that he "didn't want to waste my time." I wasn't charged a dollar. I'll definitely be bringing my car back for the SMOG test once the electrical / engine issues are sorted out. Great spot! read more

Much like Lisa V., my car is now on the biannual smog check/test list, and I've driven past Lee's Auto a bunch of times. I showed up at 12:30...and no one was there. The bay doors were all open, cars were up on lifts...and there were no people. I walked around hesitantly until I saw a man eating lunch behind a building; he signaled for me to wait by a bay. A minute or two later, he came out. I handed him my DMV paper, and he said to go wait in the office of the other building, those people were at lunch. Well, okay. So I sat in a little waiting room with a coffee machine, TV, and untended cash register. There was a small table with a couple chairs, a dish of Korean hard candies, some magazines in Korean (my favorite having been translated into English as "toilet book"), an issue of "Stuff," and, startlingly, an issue of "Beautiful/Decay," which I very much enjoyed. After waiting 10-15 minutes (my biggest problem with Lee's is that they didn't bother putting out a sign regarding the absence of employees), a guy showed up. Nobody had been waiting before me, so I handed the guy my paper, pulled my car into the bay, and he began testing my car immediately. 15 minutes later, I was out of there, having spent $49. read more
