Took my 97' Lexus LS400 COACH EDITION for an AC recharge since it was not blowing too cold during hotter temps. I'm extremely disappointed with my experience here. I was initially quoted $2,400 for an A/C repair. After I declined the service, the price suddenly dropped by about $1,000 because I was told they had made a mistake and that I didn't actually need part of the service they originally recommended. That immediately made me question the honesty and accuracy of their recommendations. If I didn't need that service, why was I quoted for it in the first place? What concerns me even more is that I brought another vehicle here not long ago for an A/C issue and paid around $2,200. After what happened this time, I'm now questioning whether I was overcharged for that repair as well. After looking through some of the previous reviews, I also noticed that other customers have posted similar complaints and described having the same type of experience. Seeing that makes what happened to me even more concerning. A $1,000 difference after a customer declines the repair is a major red flag for me. I had used Yelp's Request a Quote feature to reach out to the smog check station I had been to the last two times I needed a smog check. Little did I know until after firing off my request that it was sent to multiple other businesses, including ACA Automotive in Long Beach. The smog check station I was intending to reach out to answered first; ACA Automotive replied shortly after with a price that was only $1.20 higher, but it was much closer to me that I was willing to pay the extra twelve dimes for a smog check. Jeff from ACA was quite responsive to my inquiries albeit succinct. I just had to say the magic words "Manager's Special", which are also posted on the marquee by the intersection, and the discounted price would be honored. I'm not sure what the normal price would have been if you don't say those magic words, but once I said them to Gil at the front counter, he perked up before I could even finish saying "smog check". ACA Automotive is an auto shop located on the northeast corner of Clark and Willow. It appears you can enter via either cross street, but you can't exit via Clark. The shop consists of two buildings, and I was a little confused as to where I should go until I saw the words "Voted #1 Auto Repair Shop" above the garages on the east building. Well, I'm not here for an auto repair, so I entered through the entrance of the west building, where Gil at the front desk was there to greet me. I really liked how Gil was pretty upbeat and welcoming to me, especially since I hadn't even heard of ACA Automotive before my recent quote request. In fact, the rest of the team treated all the customers like family here, and even one customer was chill enough to keep the good vibes going inside the small, but lively shop. Gil asked me to fill out a form, and I was almost prepared to give him my vehicle registration renewal notice until he mentioned it wasn't needed for them to electronically transmit the smog check vehicle inspection report to the DMV. However, Gil (as well as Jeff over messages) mentioned it would take about 45 minutes to an hour for the smog check to be done, which is kind of long since the first smog check station could get me out of there in 10 minutes. They have a small waiting area that can seat only four people, so I was almost afraid I'd have to wait outside in the hot winter heat. Luckily, there were just four customers inside, including yours truly. The waiting area also includes a Keurig coffee machine, which I struggled with since I hadn't used that particular machine before. Gil noticed I was struggling and offered to assist while staying behind the counter. Appreciated how helpful he was, even mentioning that it was the 10 oz size I should be selecting since the cups didn't mention how many ounces. It still took a while for coffee to come out of the machine though, so exercise patience! Next to the Keurig machine is a mini fridge of small water bottles. After I was done with my coffee, I would have gone up to get one, but an employee, Sal, was courteous enough to give us waiting customers some water. Oh, but it gets better. A young girl (possibly Jeff's daughter?) went to us and offered some ice cream bars! The other three declined, and I probably would have declined too, but I also didn't want her to hold it for that long, so I happily took it from her hands while thanking her in the process. She was quite sweet! They really have customer service down to the T that they're even instilling it in the kiddos, so I have to give them major kudos for that! I had parked right in front of the entrance, so I kept an eye on my car while I was waiting. After about 30 minutes, I saw an employee get inside my car and drive it to the garage, where the smog check was done. After almost another 30 minutes, Adam called my name to let me know the smog check had been completed on my car and that the inspection report had been electronically sent to the DMV, so all I'd have to do was to pay my registration fees to complete the renewal process. Adam was just about as upbeat as Gil was when I first entered; if either were the manager here, I wouldn't be able to tell who lol. Even though it took longer than it probably should have, the complimentary coffee, water, and even ice cream made the wait seem not as long as it really was. I wouldn't return for auto repair needs since I usually go somewhere else, but I'd certainly return for a smog check if things stand pat between now and the next time I'm in need of one! Apart from saying the magic words, a few other notes about smog checks: 1) The last smog check is done at 4 PM. Jeff made me aware of this ahead of time, so I made sure to plan ahead accordingly. 2) Other smog check stations charge less for cash, but here it's the same price regardless of payment method. 3) If your smog check failed, you're allowed a free retest within 2 weeks. Great experience at this shop, I had sensor errors that needed to be reset otherwise I wouldn't pass smog. They advised me on how to clear and then told me to come back for a scan to make sure it cleared. It wasn't easy but I got it done and saved money from having to take to dealer to clear codes. I've been going here exclusively for my smog checks because they're somehow both affordable and the best service I've heard of. A friend recently had a terrible experience at another smog place after moving a brand new car from out of state. I told them to come here and they were impressed by the incredible difference and amazing service here, completely different than the other place they felt took advantage of them. It was time for my smog check yet again so I went here again this morning. They told me it'd be done in about 45 minutes and it was done in closer to 30. And they're super friendly and polite. I can't recommend them enough and I don't often say that about businesses especially ones related to cars. I got my price lowered 80% by asking why I was overcharged. In this exchange, I am lied to multiple times. When I ask if it's a "woman thing" I am told to pick up my car and cut my losses. This is not the first time this has happened at ACA. The go to, I think, is to blame the auto dealer for an inaccurate quote. That's what happens every time I catch a lie. I highly recommend Aca Automotive . If you live near them or the commute is reasonable they are amazing. They use top quality products. They offer excellent value. They will explain and spend the time with you. I compared them to 100 others. They are 1 of 4 I give 5 stars to. No matter what the service is if you have a chance to try them and use them go for it. The other 3 are not better or worse they are equal just a few hours away. Whether routine maintenance requested or oil change or something complex try them you will not be disappointed! What set them apart from the others is the breath knowledge of the different types of vehicles they work on the knowledge of the mechanics that they have the expertise and they've been the best of the best for many years. If the drive isn't too long to Long Beach I highly recommend them. They're extremely friendly and they're very very bright, but they really take the time to explain everything and you can tell they really care. What turned out to be a bad part installed by the dealership destroyed the head of my engine. ACA recommended an engine replacement more expensive than the value of my car. Rep Sal suggested I call the dealership - they might do the work for free. I had just called them and no mention was made of that! I wanted to share my first time experience at ACA Automotive with anyone who may be thinking about taking their vehicle there. So, that they know what to expect. So, I recently took my vehicle in for service with the intent of having it inspected for anything that maybe needed including a couple of dashboard service lights that were on. As I walked in, i was immediately acknowledged by the front desk staff. Everyone seemed to be friendly. But If you've ever walked into a dealership service center. You know that feeling that you get? The one that tells you that you are going to get over charged for everything? Yes that one. Well That's how it felt. There was someone ahead of me and when my turn was up, i was greeted by one of the service guys. I explained that my vehicle had just started running rough. It had a service engine light on as well as a long standing ABS light. I asked them to check that out and I also asked if they could visually inspect the underside of my vehicle while it is up on the bridge. The answer was. Well... we charge a diagnostic fee of $190 for each item that you would like us to inspect. So, it's $190 for the service engine light. Another $190 for the ABS light. Another $190 for any other diagnostic that you would like us to perform. What would you like us to start with? I was thinking to myself... I'm gonna spend more on diagnostic fees than on the repair itself. I asked: do you apply the diagnostic fee towards the cost of repair? Answer: NO My vehicle was running rough and this was about 1PM on a Wednesday Christmas Eve. They couldn't look at my vehicle until the following Monday. And i couldn't keep driving it in that condition. So, I decided to leave it there and have them diagnose the service engine light issue. And so, i took an Uber home. Finally. On Monday around 3PM, i get a call from one of the service advisers. The person said. You need 8 spark plugs, 8 coils and a valve gasket cover. And that's going to be $2k. That seemed to be outrageously expensive. So, i declined the work. I took an uber back to the shop, paid the $190 for just the diagnostic and i went on my way. I ended up going to another shop that did everything for $600 less and did a great job. And did not charge me a diagnostic fee. In conclusion. I cannot speak about their work quality as i did not have my vehicle repaired there. But one thing for sure is that i feel that ACA wasted my time and money that could have gone towards the repairs. For that, I absolutely DO NOT recommend ACA Automotive. read more

This was my first time here. I have to say it's a bit pricey for a full synthetic oil change and inspection of tire pressure, fluids. Plus I needed a smog test- that also cost ~$60. So even with my AAA the total bill was $250. I do commend them on their customer service as they were very knowledgeable and kept me updated to the status. However, my car was there for almost 5 hours even with an appointment. I had to arrange for a friend to pick me up once I checked the car in and then he dropped me off to retrieve my car. I was just handed paperwork instead of verbal review of what was done. Yes, I know how to read! I'm a senior and felt I overpaid- but I know it was ultimately my decision to book with them. Also, my 2018 car didn't pass the smog test and they told me to come back after driving my car another 100 miles. I've already paid my license renewal fee in early May. This is an update more than 15 years after my first review. My husband and I have always brought our cars here and now we have two children of driving age who also need safe, dependable working cars. ACA has always been honest, quick, reliable, and friendly service. I feel comfortable bringing our cars here knowing that we are in good hands.
