Tony has been serving Long Beach for I believe it was over 18 years and his experience shows. Great place to go to get your required SMOG test done, if you live near downtown LBC. Like getting…read moredocuments notarized, the process is heavily regulated by the state, but unlike a notary, it looks like a SMOG testing center can charge what they want. So the $40 out the door (including the mandatory $8.25 fee for the certificate) is a great price. I actually found a coupon from smogtips.com for $29.95 for this space, but once you add in the extras, it came out the same...so the tech didn't even take it. The $40 is listed clearly, and it seems like it would be the same for minivans and small SUVs as well (other places seem to have extra surcharges for that). Like others said, it's easy to drive in if you are next, but if somebody is getting tested, you would need to drive into the auto repair shop driveway right after and walk back to the garage to get in line. You can only enter going South on Long Beach Blvd (since Long Beach Blvd is a divided road). There is a small waiting room with a TV showing a local station. Once our car got hooked up, it took about 15 minutes to complete. They take credit cards, and will give you a computerized Vehicle Inspection Report. Now I just need to wait for the electronic submission to be recorded at the DMV, so I can renew my registration on-line. Conclusion: the price is good, and quick once you get started. We'll come back to this place in 2 years.

Yelp was correct: their $40 price is on the low end of standard (they have a coupon on their website, but turns out I didn't actually need it to get that price), the guy working there (who I think may have also been the owner) was super friendly, and I was in and out in 10 minutes. My only complaint: they really need a better sign directing traffic - they have a big sign out in front, that points into their one-car garage, so if someone else is already getting a smog check (as was the case when I got there), it is completely non-obvious where to go. You actually turn into the following drive-way, which looks like it leads into a car-wash, and then park around the back of the building. Their sign out front really needs to tell people that. Once I figured out where I was going, though, super quick and easy.

The gentleman on the phone said the transmission fluid is for life unless I'm towing or carrying heavy loads. When I questioned why I see that it's recommended online he says that dealers will recommend this service all day but if you check the Toyota maintenance manual it says you don't need it. Man! I haven't even been to this shop yet and I'm already getting a good feeling about this place. It's a bit more expensive for an oil change than other places that have quoted me, but I like that they use factory parts including Toyota oil filters. I'll update this review once I get the car in for my first visit. Stay tuned.... 6/29/26 - Brought my Sienna in for an oil change + complimentary 30-point inspection (since it was my first time there). Jared took the van for a spin, brought it back and lifted it up. They found a little oil seepage coming out of the transfer case. I let them know that I did see a transfer case drain/fill on the CarFax report before I bought it. Jared thinks they just didn't torque it properly so they were going to retorque and clean up around the area and keep an eye on it. Worst case scenario, they would need to order a new drain plug gasket and I'd have to come back to get it replaced. Thankfully, the drain plug just needed to get tightened. I was in and out in almost exactly an hour just as Robert promised. Thanks The Toy Shop team!! Pro Tip: they are booked out at least a week in advanced so make your appointment ASAP!

I can't recommend this place enough! They have 3 machines, so you will never wait more than 20 minutes (realistically 15) to get your smog check done. You fill out the paper work as you wait for the check to happen,you get your results and a certificate with receipt very quickly. I will be getting my next smog check and referring my friend and family for a quick,easy, affordable and pleasant experience. read more

Jamal's price quote at VIP Smog was the most affordable but a little out of the way for me. Luckily I was in the area one day and decided to stop by without calling in advance. I was greeted by Jamal and he helped me right away. I gave him my DMV paperwork and within 15 minutes, my car was checked and ready to go. The shop is located on the main street of pacific and he was kind enough to reposition my car to make it easy and safe to leave the lot without having to reverse out onto oncoming traffic.
