Really friendly place. It was my first time here and I needed a Star Location. The guy who runs this place is really friendly and he told me he wanted to make sure my car would pass before he hooked it up. He scanned it and he said he would test it.... And it passed. I would highly recommend this place because the guy is friendly. You can get a smog anywhere but he was really nice and knowledgeable. I took my car that had recently been serviced at the shop to do my smog check here being that it's not too far from where I live. I arrive and the guy, Ernesto, checks my car with a scanner and after only 2 minutes he tells me he will not pass my car. I ask why and he tells me "You know why?" and I ask "what do you mean I know why?" Again he tells me that I know why and then he says my car is showing a code so I say OK what code is it? He tells me "I can't tell you" which to me made absolutely no sense! I tell him that my car had recently been serviced at the dealer so maybe that might be the reason and he just told me to take it to the dealer then which again made no sense to me! He repeatedly requested I take it to a dealer until he finally said to run the car 60 miles and to bring it back to see if any code would pop up. I obliged to driving the car and went on a 2 hour drive with all types of traffic just to bring it back to the place. When I got back to Ernesto he checked my car again with the scanner and said nothing so he then proceeded to pop open my hood and as soon as he opened it he saw my air filter and said he could not pass it due to being uncovered, even though when I bought it from a certified dealer that is exactly how it came, and after that had the audacity to say that if I had done previous Smog checks to the car that it was probably because I had done a shady deal with somebody which I thought was totally disrespectful and uncalled for when I had been respectful with him the entire time. After that I ended up leaving while still having the courtesy to thank him for his time to which he had no response! After that I went to another local Smog test center and they passed my car with flying colors! I'm not the type of person to leave bad reviews unless it's really warranted but after this experience I feel I had to let others know about the type of person Ernesto is! If only I could leave no stars. Avoid this place at all costs. This guys is not knowledgeable about vehicles about their emissions systems and seriously lazy. Argued that my vehicle was missing a catalytic converter when there was obviously one, he literally didn't even bother to look under the vehicle nor did he even bother checking inside to see if there were any check engine lights. Definitely a place that should be closed down due to insufficient knowledge in a business he supposably runs. Literally told me to leave because he was so-called busy with nobody there. Go down the street and you will definitely find friendly smog shops who willing to actually do their job properly without making false assumptions. He had done a previous job for a family member where he hadn't even calibrated his instruments nor was even using gas samples that were in date. Very disappointing, this guy used be okay with fair pricing. Today he tried to charge me $50.00 which is $10.00-$20.00 above the surrounding area price. He also had me write out all of my own information on the actual invoice with no price quoted or written on the invoice. Basically, I got the Corvette pricing I have a nice car therefore I was going to get charged top dollar. Then he got angry after I told him his price was high and told me to go to one of the surrounding Smog Stations with better pricing for the 10 minute long OBD smog test, which passed the initial scan and would have passed no problem. So I went to NorthStar Smog which charged me a total of $40.00 with certificate electronic transfer to the DMV. Maybe I just got him on a bad day but I refuse to pay higher prices just Because I own a nice car. Great experience at NorthStar on Long Beach Blvd and owner even gave me four (4) coupons for my other vehicles. Never again!... read more

Fastest, cheapest smog test EVER! I found this place because somebody gave me their business card that had a $5 off coupon on the back. Before I went there I called the owner Ernesto to ask how much it would be. He told me $40 for my 2004 Subaru. That actually turned out to be $10 off the regular price. When I got there, another car was almost done with its smog test. Even with waiting for them, I was out of there in 10 minutes! And they DO take credit cards. This place is on the corner of PCH and Walnut. It's very small and I almost missed it. There is no sign for Nava Smog Test, just "smog test only" on the placard outside and on the building which is right next to a repair shop. read more

OK, the check station that was here before apparently had some issues for some folks & has closed; it is operating under new management and has a new name; "Nava smog Test Only", according to the receipt. He did a smog inspection on my partner's 2010 Prius for $45 flat (the receipt says I got a $5 discount, so I suggest you ask him before the test how much your inspection will cost, which is what I did). It's still a no-frills operation, nothing but a place to sit down while they inspect your beast. It passed and I was on my way in less than 15 mins. The receipt has a checkbox for "Credit card" so maybe they can take plastic now too (I didn't think to ask until I got to writing this). The new owner is Hispanic and he told me he didn't buy the business from the prior owner, he opened his business after the prior operator went out of business. There is now a (single bay) car service business in the same building, so there are 2 businesses operating in the same space. I'm guessing if your car fails inspection, the other business would be glad to help you with whatever service it needs... but it seemed as if he was the only guy there, so maybe he just changes hats if you need something... according to the receipt, they "... cannot diagnose or perform any emissions related repairs..." or refer you to any other shop, so I'm guessing he knows how to walk that line. Bottom line: still fast & inexpensive service, new owner seems nice and motivated in building a reputation for providing good service. Recommended. read more

Was told that my car wouldn't pass the smog. So Ernesto suggested that I change spark plugs, air filter, change oil and then drive my car 50 miles before I took it back. My mechanic told me that it almost passed and ran his Obd scanner and noticed there was no bad codes that would be a reason for my car failing. So he did an oil change and added fuel injector cleaner into my gas. He told me to run the car and that it should pass smog. When I went back to NAVA, Ernesto was upset that I didn't do everything that he suggested that I do, and told me he was an Engineer when it came to smog and that my mechanic had told me wrong information. He assured me that it would fail again, (which it did) and egotistically told me to take the results to my mechanic. (Which I did) My mechanic was surprised and told me that he thought that Ernesto had failed me on purpose. I went a couple days later to another smog provider and low and behold my car passed. I realized that Ernesto ended up being a jerk and I will definitely not be taking him anymore business. I suggest you do the same. read more
