This is the greatest place in the Long Beach and Lakewood areas. My Dad has been coming here since the 70's when the original owner had the place. I've been coming here since I've been driving (and since the original owner's Son now owns the place). My Son has been coming here since the 2000's. They were the best then and they are still the best. 40+ years of cars and 3 generations have been coming here. If anyone knows how great My Dad's is, I would say my family does. 1st off the rather LARGE man with the extremely long beard sitting at the front desk was extremely rude, I went there, as I usually do ; to get an oil change. He rudely said look at the sign which the sign read (oil change closed until May 27th) his rude tone let me know that he should not be the first face that you see at this establishment. Every single time I visit My Dad's, I leave such a happy camper! Their service is awesome and they're super quick every time, while maintaining transparency! I've been bringing my car here for oil changes and my fiance's had his brake pads switched out here. Every oil change is quick, even on the weekends, and when they even gave me a heads up on the wear of my tires when I got them rotated. Go HERE WITH CAUTION! I have been getting oil changes here for years for multiple of cars and never had a problem. Recently one of my car started to stall and shut off. I took it to the mechanics and was told it was not my battery or alternator after testing them. They then did more diagnostic for other possible reasons but nothing. They finally checked the oil and were puzzled that it was completely empty. I had no signs of leakage in my driveway ever and they found no signs of leakage. The cap the closed tight and there was no burn signs in the tail pipe and the engine pistol was fine. Very PUZZLING to all of us. They wanted to know when I last had the oil change, I called and spoke with BOB, he told me when it was done and where the mileage was at when I brought the car in. It hasn't even reached 5k yet and wasn't due for an oil change. I then told him my situation and he was so defensive and gave me their family history of the business and laughed sarcastically that I couldn't be possibly accusing them of maybe NOT putting enough oil or no oil at all (which I didn't even say,I was just telling him my situation) but he got so defensive which probably says a lot to be honest! He rushed me off the phone and told me I needed to take the car to actual professionals not the current mechanics that I was at LOL (what a childish reaction) and hung up! Worst customer service from him, he's usually so nice in person that even I was appalled. The mechanics conclusion is that maybe not enough oil or no oil was ever additionally added/changed- there was no oil so my car started to over heat and stall/shut off. Thankfully, I was proactive and was able to get the issue before my car engine blew out. They did the proper extra cleanage my car might of needed for this issue and added oil and since then my car hasn't stalled/shut off. TIP!!!! Make sure you ask them to show you where the oil line is and the old filter they replaced before you leave!! They are so quick sometimes less than 10 minutes which now makes me wonder! They just lost a customer!!! Bob- you also need to do better as a business owner you lack professionalism in customer service! I've taken my car there before and tough that they were honest but took my car for them to inspect the breaks like 5 times ( no exaggeration) and they kept telling me they were fine and had more life in them. About the fifth time I took it because I knew my brakes should be done. They told me I needed new disk and brakes! I was upset but let them do the job and didn't say anything because I don't think it would've made a difference. I'm embarrassed that it's taken me 11 years to write this review, because I love these guys! As a woman, it's hard to find a place that won't try to sell you services you don't need. I fully trust them. In the 11 years that I've been going there they have never tried to sell me anything that wasn't needed. What I love the most about them is that they are super fast!! I don't think I've ever been there for more than 15 mins. They are kind enough to offer coffee, but I have yet to be able to finish it before they are handing me my keys. Plus their pricing is great. Came in today (Weds) to get a quote for an oil change. No cars ahead of me, which was awesome. Not sure who exactly it was that helped me but he was great! He quoted me a very very reasonable price ( way more affordable than a Jiffy Lube Or Valvaline). I agreed to proceed and he said it would take about 20 mins. GREAT! Walked across the street to grab a bite to eat , by the time I sat down, I was getting a call that my car was ready. Pretty sure it was waaaay faster than 20 mins. This place has been here for 50 plus years. The mechanics are quick to work and get you in and out in no time. The guys know what they are doing and they don't operate like those other high pressure commission based oil change places run by college kids looking for a part time summer job. Trustworthy and honest! They did a brake inspection for the customer before me. My girlfriend had gotten an oil change and a little over 3500 miles later we noticed the low level oil indicator turn on. I checked the oil level and it was insanely low. Car has no leaks, 2018 4 cylinder, less than 30k miles. Called and spoke to Bob to see if there was a solution. Especially since their techs touched the car last and it's a good chance there was not enough oil placed during the initial oil change. Bob became defensive and very sarcastic. I went here because of the reviews but when I arrived it was a whooole different story. I was extremely disappointed in the customer service this guys "David" provided, or lack of customer service. I needed an oil change and an air filter replacement. Mind you I really don't know about cars. I said I would like an estimate of the cost, he pointed at the pricing on the board but then said "I think those are oil prices so it might be more" EXCUSE ME!?! you have incorrect pricing up? That was a RED FLAG. His tone of voice was very dismissive and couldn't answer any of my questions. Well, I said I'd be back if my experience of this place changed. Boy, has it. I've been dealing with a battery in my car that's been shot for a while. The engine really struggles to turn over, and I can't even leave the lights on for a minute when the engine is off or I run the risk of it not starting at all. I finally got to a point where I couldn't risk it not starting another day, so while my car was running, I drove down to My Dad's to finally get it taken care of. I came in and shared with them the issue and mentioned that I also was due for an oil change. The guy told me it would be $20 to inspect the battery, and then $35 for the oil change. Kinda pricey, but I accepted since it had to be done. I got myself some coffee and prepared for the couple hundred dollars I was about to spend on replacing the battery. After about twenty minutes, they call me up to the counter and tell me that I'm all set. I was a little confused. Aren't we going to discuss replacing the battery? He tells me, "Yep, the battery's shot. We recommend going to Walmart or Costco to get a replacement battery." Wait a second, you mean to tell me that you were charging me $20 to tell me something I already knew, and in fact came in here and told YOU about in order to fix, and then you're not going to fix it? I accepted the $20 inspection fee because I assumed it was a precursor to, I don't know, actually fixing the problem? This is not the first time they've charged me to diagnose a problem (that I already knew about) and then proceed to do nothing about it and tell me to go somewhere else. In fact, this is the third thing. I'm really bummed, I thought this was going to be the reliable, nearby mechanic shop I could take my car to. Guess not. read more

I've had Rocky (my CR-V) for three years now and my last two oil changes have been at My Dad's (no, not myyyy dad but My Dad's). Both times, the employees have been awesome and helpful. Prior to coming here, I gave them a call to ask about the types of oil I would need since I'm driving my car to Chicago (much colder than So Cal). The guy on the phone was super helpful and honest with me. So, I came here early Saturday morning. There was no wait and my car was worked on right away. I did the maintenance package ($40), where they change the oil, rotate tires, and check everything else. They did find out that my two air filters (cabin & engine air filters; I always thought cars only had 1) were dirty and in need of a change. So they quote me a price and I decided to just go ahead with it. I liked that they presented me with my current filters and compared how the new filters look like so I can see how dirty they are. With the maintenance package and the two new air filters, my total came out to a little over $90. While I waited, I helped myself to some Keurig coffee and read my book. But the total time was probably less than thirty minutes! Super fast service since they had two guys working on my car. Also, they also have a punch card and it's a free oil change after you paid for four of them, great way to save money if you're a loyal customer. read more

My knowledge about cars is limited so I asked for his opinion about whether it's worth it for me to get the standard oil or the premium one. He recommended the standard oil - and I honestly really appreciate his response because I have been to many auto shops where they want to charge you for the most expensive service even when you don't need it. I decided to get the Oil change + rotate tires + check air pressure for $39.95. It took less than 15 minutes since it was a weekday and I came 30 minutes before closing.
