I recently had my car serviced at Jim's auto repair, I have a 2009 VW beetle and I explained that nothing was wrong with my car but I wanted to make sure that everything was up to date and if anything was urgent to be replaced. I previously went to the dealer ship and they told me I needed to replace my struts and suspension etc, right away but quoted me around $5k! That is an insanely high number so I declined and looked for a second opinion somewhere else. That's when I called Jim's auto and was greeted by Jose and told him my situation and he let me come in the next day. When my car was serviced, Jose had took videos of my car and explaining to me in the videos of what I need to be replaced and what it's looking like, it's super informative to know what I am going to be paying and how it looks. Jose explained to me that I didn't need any major repairs. That they were in good shape for how old my car is, he explained to me the urgent need, the future repairs and the recommended, but he did NOT up-sale me on anything and was extremely friendly and informative and was understanding of how much repairs cost and informed me that the things the dealership said was urgent to repair, was still in great condition for the next 8 months. He recommended me to save up for the repairs in that time period gave me the cost so I know how much it will be when the time comes. I highly recommend Jim auto! I will definitely be back in 8 months! Also I had my passenger headlight always slightly popping out and they fixed it for me! No charge! I super appreciate that so much since they found a way for me to save another $200 to get it replaced and so far my headlight is still on and working great!! read more

We took our daughter's car here to be fixed. We live up north so we were depending on Yelp to help us find a place. $ 1130 and 2 separate visits, and it's still not fixed. The first visit they did an oil change, $180. The second they said it was spark plugs and intake valves. They quoted me $550. When we called up to pay it was suddenly $950. They could have saved us the money and told us it was the head gasket in the beginning. So basically all of that for nothing because we are now looking at replacing the whole engine. I have had my 2015 VW Jetta serviced here twice. Both times I received extremely professional service. My most recent visit I had my battery replaced. It was about 6 o'clock in the evening and I had stopped at Timmons VW and was told it would be $600 to replace the battery because everything would need to be reset. When I expressed my shock that replacing the battery would cost $600 I was told I could get a second opinion. I did exactly that. I drove less than a mile further down Cherry Avenue to Jim's Auto Repair that specializes in Volkswagen's. Mind you, I had no appointment, I just pulled in hoping for a second opinion. Jose Jr. stepped away from the car he was working on and agreed that I needed my battery replaced. He took care of it right away and I drove off about twenty minutes later with a brand new battery for $208. That's including tax and labor. Everything working great and saving well over $400 as Timmons quote didn't include taxes or anything else they might have tacked on. Lastly I would just want to stress just how friendly, helpful and professional the service I received was. They have found a loyal customer and one that will definitely bypass Timmons from now on. I actually haven't seen them yet, but I called them on a Friday to see if I could bring my car in to be serviced I told them my headlights went out but the high beams were still working. A very kind man told me I just need new headlights and can try to do it on my own since it's an easy fix, if not they'll be open for me on Monday. He was right. I can easily say that I found my mechanic for life as far as I know. Idk how Jose did it but he fixed my little VW Golf almost as good as new. I've had it since 2015 and ever since I started driving it the brakes would screech like a banshee. No one person could ever figure out why it did that or fix it until I took it to Jim's Auto! So impressed and the prices are fair. Definitely expensive but you can tell he's not trying to rob you of your money like the rest of the so called mechanics out there. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because communication is spotty. He would say he would call within the x day to update but wouldn't (I'm sure because he's busy) but we would always have to be the ones calling to ask for update or to know when we could pick up the car. Love it here tho and I hope I don't have any more problems with my '98 Golf but if I do, I know I'm going to Jim's Auto. Wouldn't trust anyone else but my own dad. Jim's Auto repair is possibly the best mechanic in the Long Beach area. The staff is very quick, efficient, and honest with the progress of your vehicle, not to mention the prices are excellent. I brought in my Honda with a busted starter after calling in for a quote, and they named a price about 300 dollars cheaper than the several other places I contacted for a price. Not even did they do an excellent repair for significantly less of a cost, they topped off my oil and checked the brakes free of charge. I highly recommend getting your vehicle serviced here if you can. I will absolutely be coming back to Jim's next time I need auto work done. Brought my 2002 VW GTI VR6 in for a complete maintenance check-up and bumper to bumper inspection. The experience I had with Jose and his team was top notch. His customer service sets the bar in auto repair industry. I have quite a few stories I could share. I will summarize them. After my '15 GTI was sideswipped, I was concerned that there might be some structural or suspension damage. Jose put my car on a rack and took me under. He explained what damage would look like if I had any and shared with me some old-skool mechanic tricks to assess damage. He put me at ease. He was able to repair the minor body damage which would have set me back a couple of grand if I let the dealer handle it. Great job! A few weeks later, my older son had a mechanical breakdown, which turned out to be a minor and quick repair. Jose and crew got him back on the road in a couple of hours. My younger son was in need of a car. I had been eyeing an Audi on Jose's lot with a for sale sign. I inquired. Jose threw me the keys and said go check it out. I did. Found it to be a great deal, not sure if a German Luxury car (although used) was the right choice for my young son. A few days later, my son checked it out and decided to buy it. I've been coming here for almost a decade now. As other reviewers have stated, Jose is the head honcho here at Jim's Auto. Jose, his son and crew are experts at what the do. They specialize in Volkswagen vehicles and most Asian makes. As soon as you arrive, you will find one or two vacant parking spots inside the lot. If not, there is usually open residential parking adjacent to shop. Walking into the office/waiting area you'll notice they only have enough seating for five and a soda vending machine sits next to the door to moisten your chappy lips. The staff members are always friendly; I have never seen them act rude to anyone. Their pricing on services is always fair. When I used to have my old Honda, an oil change cost me around $45. Now that I have a 2005 VW, it costs me ~$100 for synthetic oil. If your car is having problems or needs a tune-up, go see Jose. read more

My VW Jetta had an oil leak in the vacuum pump and I needed to replace my break pads. Of course the dealership quoted me a steep $400-$900, so I asked for recommendations for garages in the area. Jim's came highly recommended by several friends and family and boy am I happy I listened! I brought my car in at 8am on a Saturday and Jose called me by 12pm saying that they had finished working on my car. I was initially not too happy with the final cost of $450 - I mean who would ever be happy to spend that much in general?? - however, I remembered I would have paid close to double if I took it to the dealership, so I agreed. When I asked him to break down the price for me he then told me that he wouldn't mind taking it down a bit so he brought my total cost down to $400!!! I was shocked that he would do that! I would not trust any shop when it comes with my Audi's. Not the cheapest rate in town. But they do exceptional work. I recently brought an Audi with an 2.7t motor that had a catastrophic water pump damage. Junior, the son, worked on it right away and delivered to me in less than 2 days. I would say that he is an expert when it comes to complicated Audi motors. I was billed with 6 hours of labor to do water pump, timing belt and other associated parts. 6 hours is very reasonable on this type of service. After being frustrated and almost giving up, I ended up looking through my old papers and found Jim's Auto Repair card in which I completely forgot that I went to them last year. I gave them a call and dropped off the car to have them diagnose the problem. Rented a car for the day, and Jose called me the next morning to explain to me what exactly what happened to my car. A good experience at Jim's when my 1999 Honda CR-V wouldn't start. The woman at the front desk was friendly and straightforward, both on the phone and in person. I had the car towed to the shop and left it in a pretty crowded lot. It appears to be a small but popular place, and only 3 minutes away from where we live in Lakewood, so really convenient. I was told they would most likely give me a call the next day to explain what they had found. The next morning, José contacted me and explained that he would replace my timing belt for a few hundred dollars, but I appreciate that he was upfront about a (way more expensive) plan b fix if simply replacing the belt did not get the car to start. A few hours later he called again to say the car was good to go with just the belt replacement. The next day I picked it up, and that was that. It's been a week, and the car is running great. So, overall, easy and no-nonsense. They aren't pushy or rushed in their customer service, so you don't get a bad vibe. Pricing seems fair. I would definitely revisit. read more

I cannot recommend Jose highly enough. As a young woman who knows nothing about cars, walking into any mechanic is pretty scary. All of the people at Jim's are incredibly friendly, and make you feel at ease. But here's why you should go to Jim's- I dropped my car off this morning, because it's been making an odd noise since I got in a small fender bender. When I came back a few hours later, Jose took me out to the car, opened the hood, and showed me and explained what was wrong clearly. He told me I could replace the grill, which costs 180 dollars to order, or he could repair it, and no one would know the difference. In addition, while the car was there, he buffed out an unrelated scratch over the back tire. To sum it up- Jose is friendly, thorough, and perhaps of most importance, extremely honest. He does great work, and he will have my business and recommendation as long as I live in Long Beach. read more

My daughter has a 2006 Audi A3 which was not running well. She had taken it to several mechanics who worked on her car and charged her a lot of money, but never really fixed the problems. I decided she needed to have a competent mechanic work on the car so I sent her to the Audi dealer and paid for an inspection to identify all the issues. The dealer identified a lot of issues and gave us a quote to fix the problems and do some maintenance. The total cost quoted was $3851. I decided to try to locate an independent competent mechanic to do the work. I read internet reviews, went to Audi Forums, Yelp and read everything I could find. I narrowed down the list to 4 potential shops and I made calls to get quotes and discuss the repairs. One of the shops who some people were "Raven" about never answered their phone (4 attempts) and never returned my voice mails . Another shop didn't really seem competent after I asked some pointed questions and got answers which differed from everything I had learned from the Audi Forums. When I called Jim's, I spoke with Junior and found him to be quite competent on the phone. He answered all my questions and he also gave me a very competitive quote. One of the things the dealer had told me was that there was an oil leak in the vacuum pump and that it needed to be replaced. Junior said they had fixed this problem before by replacing the gasket and that all that might be needed was a new gasket which was less expensive. One of the other issues had to do with a "Left Dipped Headlight" error code and flickering headlights. The Audi's headlights are connected to a motor and move when you turn the wheel. Junior said his brother has an Audi with the same issue and he was working on it. I had been told it could be many things and the Audi Forums discussed the problem as well. The dealer suggested replacing the bulbs and ballasts at a cost of $441. Another mechanic said the entire assembly would likely need to be replaced at a cost of about $1100. After hearing this, I decided that we could live with the Left Dipped Issue. Junior looked at it and tried resetting the computer and the problem appears to be fixed. The timing belt needed to be changed which is a big job and we replaced the water pump since the engine was torn down. The coil packs had to be replaced. The ECT sensors needed to be replaced, a brake light was out, and we needed an oil change. Jim's fixed everything, and even washed the car and put on some tire dressing. My daughter said it looked and drives like a new car! The best thing was that their price was extremely reasonable. They could have taken advantage of us and charged more but they were honest and they beat the dealer's outrageously expensive quote of $3851 by $2316 and did the work for just over $1500. This is the only place we will go for work on her car from now on. Interestingly, my original post attempt was rejected by Yelp's software. I tried to figure out why and believe that my use of exclamation marks may have been viewed as an unhelpful rant. I trying to re-post without the exclamation points but know that I wish I could emphasize how pleased we are with Jim's (big exclamation point). read more
